George & Amal Clooney are trying to get pregnant, already visiting fertility clinics

wenn22529817

A few weeks ago, I covered a funny story from the National Enquirer about how George Clooney’s Grand Amal Experiment blew up in his face. George expected his union to the most magical unicorn in all the universe, Amal, to be beloved and respected. Instead, his films are doing poorly and people think that George has been overdoing it. I wrote, in that post, “George could easily rework the strategy by doing one simple thing: knocking up Amal. There’s nothing better for an image makeover than a baby.” Team Clooney was listening.

Man with a family plan! Fatherhood “hasn’t been high on my list,” George Clooney said in May. But nearly 10 months after walking down the aisle with Amal Alamuddin in Italy, the actor, 54, is now ready to make children a priority.

“They decided that it would be the right time,” a source reveals in the new issue of Us Weekly. “Amal isn’t taking on extra work at the moment and just continuing with the cases she has.”

In fact, an insider says the human rights lawyer, 37, hopes to welcome a little one in London next year — right on schedule for the completion of the pair’s renovated $15 million English countryside home. “The building plans include a nursery,” says another insider of the 9,000 square-foot 17th century mansion, which also boasts nine bedrooms and eight bathrooms. “They hope to have all the work done by Christmas.”

And the two aren’t leaving their family’s future to chance. “They recently visited a fertility center,” adds a third source. “This is something they really want.”

That new desire is partially thanks to the couple’s friends. The 54-year-old Gravity star “loves the relationships his friends have with their kids,” an insider adds. “George is ready for this step and he thinks that Amal will be a great mother.”

[From Us Weekly]

Is there a consensus on visiting a fertility center so early in the process? Don’t most doctors tell people to just have fun and try the old fashioned way for a while and if that doesn’t work, then you should seek help? Granted, George is older than most first-time fathers (he’s 54) and Amal might be worried about her own fertility – she’s 37. But sure. An Alamooney baby would definitely help their images. Just think… by this time next year, we could be witnessing the birth of the most special, brilliant, amazing, fashionable baby ever.

Yeah my eyes rolled in my head for a while, kept on rolling out of my head. Now they’re headed down the highway. Such a lame game GC!!

    • Belle Epoch says:

      ^^^ Funny!

This idea makes me recoil in horror. CB, make sure you talk about babies NOT being good for PR. Like little Band-Aid Affleck.

    • Olenna says:

LOL! Make sure your eyes don’t go too far. You’re gonna need them for the next installment of As the World Turns with George and Amal.

    • mytbean says:

And then they will travel the world and adopt various children from different countries.

      • angie says:

…and also become the hipper, more accomplished version of Will and Kate. Country estate being expensively and extensively renovated, Amal reducing her workload for example. Maybe they’ll give up Cabo entirely and start vacationing on the isle of Celebrity Mustique.

      • Ravensdaughter says:

        …..that’s exactly what I thought!

    • Mary Mary says:

Why not adopt? This couple could provide so much for an orphaned child ( or children).

  2. sketches says:

In my experience, if you’re over 35 docs will either say wait 6 months or start right away with the fertility treatments. I’m a long time veteran of the fertility wars (9 procedures over 6 years), and I started with medical intervention when I was 31.

    • kcarp says:

I have said this before Hollywood is operating on a whole different idea of fertility.

You don’t just have fun and hope for a baby at 37 and 54. Why are they shopping facilities? Do they want a certain baby only this one has or does one clinic offer your 4th IVF for free?

      • AG-UK says:

Some clinics have better success rates. when I did it another clinic did give you 2 for $20k (we are talking 14 years ago) but I opted to stay with the clinic where my ob/gyn was slightly less but only 1 go.

    • Size Does Matter says:

My doctor said you try for a year prior to age 35, and after 35 you try got six months before intervention. But those rules could be insurance requirements, which the Clooneys don’t need to worry about satisfying. Or maybe one or both of them already has a known complication, like endometriosis or a vasectomy that needs reversing.

      • FLORC says:

        This is still accurate.
You try for 1 year with regular “attempts”. Meaning during your ovulation cycle it’s an every other day “attempt” routine. If that doesn’t do it after 1 year you’re thought infertile and would be given hormones. After 35/36 it’s still 6 months, but they are still very encouraged to do the every other day during ovulation cycle attempts.

      • Nimbolicious says:

I don’t think they spend enough time together to conceive naturally, especially at her age and extremely low body weight. Assuming she even still ovulates regularly, I have a hard time believing that they’d coordinate both their schedules to allow for togetherness during her fertile periods. They seem to spend a lot of time on opposite ends of the planet.

  3. Liz says:

The story is most likely made up but if I wanted a child at 37, with an older father and money not being an issue surely going to a fertility clinic would be my first choice.

    • BNA FN says:

I don’t believe thus story is made up. GC always debunk every story written about them that is not true. Have not heard any denial from team GC/AA. I’m sure it will be a beautiful baby, hope it does not get AA’s nose or toes. Just joking. All babies are a beautiful and a blessing.

  4. Chinoiserie says:

I think celebrities might use fertility treatments they do not nessecarily need so they get kids that fit their schecule.

    • Bearcat Lawyer says:

Or they visit fertility centers because they plan on using a surrogate.

    • jwoolman says:

Or they’re just getting checked out to make sure all systems are go, so they don’t waste time.

  5. GlimmerBunny says:

I hope they do get pregnant. It would be good gossip and I’d like to see Clooney with a baby.

    • Ronda says:

it would be terrible for the child to only be a PR asset.

    • Truly says:

I think Cloonzy needs to go to a rehab clinic before he has a kid. He’s obviously a drunk; poor kid will be a mess with two narcissists for parents.

      • Jenny says:

        I agree with you Truly.

Also, if Amal really wants to get pregnant it probably wouldn’t hurt for her to put some meat on them bones. Just saying. A body generally won’t become pregnant whilst in starvation mode.

      • cass says:

@Jenny – good point and that would be the case with most of us mortals with limited connections and financial resources. But she has access to doctors who can artificially stimulate ovulation, do IVF and do whatever they need to do hormonally to make the pregnancy “stick”.

  6. Anonymous says:

For some reason, I don’t see these two having kids. He’s just never been interested AT ALL. But older men than George have changed their tune on procreation so only time will tell!

    • Dee says:

Well, he also wasn’t interested ing getting married!

    • Jessica says:

I’m not sure that’s true. Years ago when he hurt his back and was having lots of surgery, his friends said he kept asking them how they combined family life and their careers.

I don’t think he was anti-marriage and kids so much as he was so pro-career he didn’t think having both was possible.

    • Camille (the Original) says:

A good example of this would be: Warren Beatty. He was a confirmed bachelor before finally settling down and having kids later in life (I think in his 50’s as well, but I can’t be bothered googling).

  7. DanaG says:

Amal is superskinny she may not be able to fall or stay pregnant as for George I can’t believe he has just been “lucky” with all the famewhores he has slept with. I don’t think this will happen probably Amal trying to see if it’s worth the stretch marks. The way they are going they may not be together in 9 months.

    • Lillylizard says:

I don’t think luck had anything to do with it, George had the snip many, many moons ago, it’s always reversible of course but some how I think this story is wishful thinking. Would the high flyer Amal really want a kid slowing her career down, or perhaps the career isn’t going exactly where she envisaged and this would be an 18 year insurance policy in case the fickle Clooney changes his mind about marriage again.

  8. NewWester says:

I am sure that George and Amal will put into use the same decorum and low key approach with a potential pregnancy and baby. As they did when they announced their engagement and when they married.
I wonder what the baby’s nursery will look like?

    • boredblond says:

Until she puts the clinic on her daily schedule for the paps, it’s questionable. Pics of them yesterday with her family told it all..she’s craning her neck in a car shot, desperate to be seen–a fame ho move that would make the K’s wince.

    • Christin says:

Think of the casimigos(?) tequila onesies! —- For the baby, not the parents. Or the auntie.

  9. Mata says:

    Nope. I don’t believe it.

  10. Wren33 says:

Yeah, when you are that age they suggest checking in with fertility specialists if it hasn’t happened after 6 months, basically because you don’t want to waste time if there is a problem.

  11. jmho says:

At 37, I can believe it. I was 38 when we started trying and my doc gave me some meds after 6 months.

    • GiGi says:

This. 34 is considered “geriatric pregnancy” and “advanced maternal age” so at 37, I can see them at the very least consulting with specialists.

      • AG-UK says:

Mature mothers as they call it here in the UK, Even give you different midwife group just in case some HORROR would occur.

      • Boston Green Eyes says:

Wow. I did not know that. It seems that every woman who wants to have their own child/ren is gearing up for a 30-something pregnancy. And even women approaching 40 still think they’re okay. Doctors really need to push that message for those women who want children because I don’t think these women know how hard it will be to get and stay pregnant with a healthy child after the age of, what? 30?

I’m so happy I never really wanted to have children because I can’t imagine the pain a woman feels when she’s only 35 and realizes how hard (and expensive!!! Who has $25K just lying around to help with a process that may not even work!) it will be to have a healthy pregnancy.

      • FLORC says:

Women carry healthy babies past age 30. And women under 30 can carry unhealthy. The last thing some women need to hear is that experation date nearing closer. It causes great stress which is horrible in those situations.

Exercise, eat well, keep your stress low and stay hydrated.
When I moonlighted at a fertility clinic so many women were not keeping to that lifestyle and just wanted the treatments.

        AG-UK
I’m a midwife though rarely practice as such when delivering anymore. There’s so much more to learn for a mother past a certain age. It’s not to say it will happen though. Just prevention on the very slight chance.

      • Tiffany27 says:

        @Florc

You’re a midwife? Very cool! I wish I could have a midwife and I’m thinking about switching to one. It’s not that I dislike my obgyn, but I like the midwife approach better. The problem is I have fibroids so maybe I should just stick with my dr.

      • AG-UK says:

@FLORC wow that’s good, I was preg. when I moved here from the US so it was a bit different. My problem was GETTING pregnant it was smooth sailing for the rest of the time. I was 40 walked all over London only the 8th month got to me. I did like how they don’t weigh you every time 🙂 and the mid wife coming every few days after I got home was great too.

      • FLORC says:

        Tiffany27
I’m a nurse 1st. And I had the foundation of knowledge so went for midwife license in my state.
Stick with your doctor if not for your condition then for the filing mess if you were to switch! Also, they’ve likely been monitoring everything and know the details on top of knowing you. Which is important. Fibroids can really vary so without knowing your specifics I wish you the best!
And the approach would be somewhat the same depending on conditions and doctors. I’ve worked as both within hospital walls.

        AG-UK
House Calls! Loved it. New borns are the cutest!

      • Lauren II says:

My sister in law got pregnant at 39–after she was told she was infertile.
She had a healthy 7 lb. 9 oz. Baby girl.
Sweet baby girl is 9 years old now-and a hockey star!
However, my beloved sister in law isn’t a plastic -anorexic-famewhore.

Amal doesn’t realize that no matter how slim she is – George will still prefer men.
This marriage still feels like an arranged publicity stunt. Cold and calculated.

  12. kri says:

I wonder if she will whelp that pup on a gondola.

  13. Luca76 says:

i know everyone automatically looks to the woman for fertility issues, but my thought was if this is true and they are going this early- Maybe George had a vasectomy and needs a reversal?

    • Erykah B. says:

I always thought he probaby had a vasectomy it can’t be just pure luck he managed to not get one of his old gfs knocked up.

    • Nic919 says:

She is 37 though so that has to play a role too, especially because she has actually gotten thinner over the last year. I have a colleague who was very thin due to being an athlete and she was unable to conceive, with a major part of the reason being that she did not have enough body fat. She was about this age when she started treatments as well.
Reversing a a vasectomy is easy compared to that.

Only if she gains a little weight in the next few months will this story have any truth to it.

    • NewWester says:

If this story is true, maybe they would need to go to such a clinic for IVF procedures? As for the rumours of George having had a vasectomy, maybe he did, but he could have also put some of his swimmers on ice in case he ever changed his mind about children?

      • GiGi says:

You can still harvest sperm after a vasectomy and then use them in an IVF process.

      • Jen43 says:

Sperm harvesting. Haha I bet that is what the situation is if this story is actually true. If George wasn’t snipped, one of his exes would have gotten pregnant by now.

  14. Elizabeth says:

Every story I read about them makes them seem like the most unromantic couple ever – they just don’t seem happy and in love at all. He married her for his image and career and she married him for fame and money. I wonder how the kid will turn out?

Also wasn’t there a rumor that George had a vasectomy years ago because he never wanted children and didn’t want any of his girlfriends to trap him into a baby. Can you reverse those?

  15. Miss M says:

If they want ti have kids, he needs to stop drinking…

    • Boston Green Eyes says:

Amen. I hate to be Captain Obvious here, but alcoholics make the worse parents ever. And just think that he’ll be passing those wonderful genes on to the child…

    • FLORC says:

      I thought he did stop.

  16. seesittellsit says:

Well, if he wants to go into politics, the suspicions of the American electorate won’t be allayed by a mere wife, he’s going to need the baby, too. As for the fertility clinic, if true, it may be that they’ve been trying for six months and nothing happened and they don’t want to wait any longer.

  17. dippit says:

The bit of this that rings true is that Amal hasn’t got any new casework on the horizon. I don’t think it’s for getting baby ready reasons though. Her famewhore antics and some examples of professional inexperience leading to poor performance have backfired with her Chambers and client as PR collateral damage. Even her current clients seem to be quietly disassociating.

Overall I doubted ages ago she really wanted to be a proper practising lawyer. She was too keen on the trappings of celebrity from the start. A Clooney baby would be 18yrs of security and celebrity by association with an accessory to pap walk even *if* when George bails.

Fertility treatment makes sense mostly because, in their case, I find it hard to believe either are into committing to the other the way the “fun” way makes babies.

    • Tina says:

I completely agree. Being a barrister is more than a full time job, it’s two full time jobs. It is impossible to do a good job without extensive and constant preparation. With all the travel and appearances, there is no way that she can be devoting enough time to her cases. Robertson and her other silks are just using her name and I’m sure, not relying on her to do any work.

  18. lowercaselois says:

If this is true, then they are shopping around for a surrogate. I don’t mean to be rude, but the way Amal looks, like skin and bones, there is no way she gets a regular period and I bet George was fixed while ago, otherwise there would be a little Clooney running around Hollywood.

    • Christin says:

A surrogate would be my guess as well. Even if she were at a better weight, I cannot envision her pregnant.

    • SideEye Sally says:

Agreed. Seems like the process has either begun or will be soon.

    • siri says:

I see it the same way. I don’t think for a second she wants to carry a child, nor that she could. I actually hope it’s just a rumor, because these two people seem far too selfish. I can’t picture them with a child, really.

  19. Tiffany says:

From an outsider perspective, Amal is to vain to become pregnant. She just strikes me as someone who would see it as destroying their body instead of bring a life into this world.

We have already seen whats she done since the paps came into her life.

  20. Coconut says:

Infertility is thought be 33% due to something with the woman, 33% due to the man, and 33% unknown.

I was 40 when my then husband and I conceived and we felt pretty sure that the 6112 minths it took to get pregnant–albeit in the “normal” range i think–was due to his verified low sperm count and sperm mobility. I on the other hand had good hormone levels, regular ovulation, no endometriosis, etc. I got pregnant with some low tech assistance.

  21. Jayna says:

Well, of course, the baby story starts. Then the divorce stories. Then, the divorce is called off stories. Then the baby stories. Nothing new.

They are in the middle of a massive renovation of their new estate in England. I don’t believe she’s trying to get pregnant. I don’t even believe she wants a child right now. They will probably in a couple of years.

I also think they are both in love. It doesn’t mean he hasn’t used this to some fame-hoey means and she and some have failed with that push. I still believe they are very happy together and in love.

    • Maia says:

      Completely agree with you.

    • M says:

WHY he aged between night and a day just after the marriage if he is in love?! you supposed to look younger and prettier .he looks 10/15 years older then 2 years ago and his back is great “he was on road trip for 3 weeks with his boys only’ .so,…..

      • Sasha says:

        @M
Exactly. IF he were in pain a good deal of the time, he wouldn’t be riding his bike to Rande’s Malibu club, no less an extended ride.
Everything about George and his wife is smoke and mirrors.
Who do you think put this story out there directly after the ‘candid’ Como restaurant pics?
PR reps have been doing this forever. They are not taking a nice percentage just for film promotions. The actors showing up for premieres and doing press for a movie are now in their contract.
Yes, they still have to do damage control, pay off publications/so-called critics (hello Amy Pascal/Sony hack) for positive reviews (with the promise of an interview or exclusive photos) and to glorify their clients, but really what else do they have to do?
Create buzz. Whether this story has any merit or not, it’s publicity. Just what George seems to need, desperately, at this point, especially since many don’t believe the marriage is a union for anything but convenience.
Since the advent of the internet, they’ve known how to sway the public wisely.
And they’re getting better at it. They’re here. Sometimes right above you.

  22. Tiffany27 says:

I am currently pregnant and if this is true, I wish them both success. I like Amal.

  23. Firebomber says:

Not happening . He’s too old.

  24. serena says:

    Pathetic.

He is like 1000 years old. He will be a father now? Disgusting.

  25. Nimbolicious says:

Awww. Congrats to the happy parents-to-be, Amal and OXO Good Grips!

  26. The Original G says:

I’m looking forward to George embracing stay-at-home fatherhood and unveiling his new lifestyle brand and line of Daddy and Me accessories.

  27. Elizabeth says:

Of course they’re visiting fertility specialists! Surely you don’t think this couple is actually having sex, do you?

    • BNA FN says:

@Elizabeth, you made me LOL. I was just thinking the same thing. I have never seen any love connection between those two.

  28. Pondering thoughts says:

    Fertility clinic makes sense
    if
    – you want a baby quickly.

Wanting a baby quickly makes sense
    if
    – you want to convince the world you are still a great actor / a great father / presidential material
    – you want to divorce successfully

  29. laura in LA says:

    Funny…

There’s a Casamigos truck w/a big photo of George and Rande plastered on the side that goes up and down my small side street once everyday, like they’re marketing to me specifically to buy their tequila.

(That’s all I got to say today.)

    • Liberty says:

You made me burst out laughing! What a thing to see. They are after you!!

      • laura in LA says:

That’s what I was afraid of, Liberty, that they must’ve read my random ramblings about tequila on another thread…

(If I see a truck advertising the Batfleck, then we’ll know I’m in trouble!)

  30. noway says:

This is coming from somebody associated with them as it is US and not the National Enquirer. I am betting on Mother-in-law, as she is in the PR game too. Now wouldn’t that be the best pressure ever from a mother-in-law to have grandbabies.

Still what’s left play by play on their trials and tribulations in baby making. That really is only one-step from the Kardashian’s and Kim’s womb woes. It’s official they are Kloondashians.

  31. nicole says:

Well lets face it there no spring chickens, so if they want to have kids, they would need to get on with it. But I wont beleive it till it happens, but Im sure they love keep us guesssing, all good pr and keeping them in the news.

  32. Bunny Love says:

Maybe he’s hoping this will help Amal get on the I love the Gerbers campaign. Yes-a double date to Disneyland for them. Is it too much illiteration to call the baby Alimony Alamoony?

  33. SillySimone says:

37 Is very late to have a baby. They may have been trying, but to no avail. I had a host of medical problems and thought that I was unable to get pregnant. Suddenly, at 40, I got pregnant. I don’t know by what miracle, but the pregnancy was a surprise for all of us. The reason pregnancy is difficult after the age of 35 is because it is dangerous for both mother and child. Clever mother nature.

I had a very high risk pregnancy that nearly ended in catastrophe. I have a wonderful little girl who I adore and would not trade for all the world. But if the Cloony’s are considering getting pregnant at this late age, I would council against it and suggest adoption. This would be a high risk pregnancy that would require specialists to monitor both the mother and child. The likelihood of fetal abnormalities is also very high. At 40, for example, Down’s Syndrome is a serious risk for the fetus/baby.

Perhaps they are going to fertility clinics to be able to screen fetuses for genetic problems and developmental issues before they are implanted in her uterus? That would seem reasonable.

  34. Bunny Love says:

Nothing about these two says “nurturers”.Come to think of it, nothing about these two screams”sex” either.
