  1. Don't kill me I'm French says:

    It looks like a Terrence Malick’s trailer.The music,the voice,the DP,the directing

  2. Original T.C. says:

Men will love it and the Oscar campaign will sell it to women. Not my thing though.

  3. I thought the trailer looked good. Of course, the real question is that whether or not it has substance. I hate movies where something bad/traumatic happens, and THAT’S why we’re supposed to be sad. But the movie looks to be more in the vein of a European film (like Age of Uprising: The Legend of Michael Kohlhaas)….or however they’re described.

    • Don't kill me I'm French says:

      Terrence Malick’s New World !

      • Prince Valiant says:

It looks like a remake of Man in the Wilderness, with Richard Harris. Good film.

    • islandwalker says:

It looks like an updated Jeremiah Johnson, which is okay by me. (Damn, Redford was smokin’ hot.)

      • dotty says:

YES!!! That long seventies stretch of prime manly eye candy with substance: Redford in JJ, Electric Cowboy, Gatsby, The Way We Were of course, a lot of Sydney Pollack things – but also that whole cohort of Newman, McQueen, Beatty, Nicholson, Pacino, de Niro, even DSutherland in his lugubrious horsefacy way… SO MUCH SHAGWORTHY PRETTY… I think my very first imagined slash- enactment must have been between Butch and Sundance…

The Hardybloke, if not Dicaprio, seems quite a worthy successor is the common wisdom, yes?

I’m new to the gossip sites, and only really began paying attention towards the end of Hiddles’ dancing bear phase (Coriolanus/ OLLA). Reading the Celebitchies’ hilarious but so incisive commentary became a real education on how PR and the star-system and the whole world of moviemaking work now. In particular, I was fascinated by the commentary around Goop’s consciousness, and latterly Ben-Jen, and how modern relationships flourish or flounder.

I’m in the antipodes and maybe still quite naïve to how things really work, but on a semi-related note: of all the gossip sites that are cross-referenced e.g. ONTD, Dlisted, Datalounge, Daily Fail sidebar of shame (especially when they’re doing their bit for universal middle-class happy couplings viz the popular series Zach&Miles – go to the beach!ride citibikes! canoodle on the sidewalks of NY! go walkies with their puppies! and most magnicently of all go to the grocery store! Lots of pictures of them buying broccoli. As one Celebitchy said so succinctly when Miles McMillan made his debut with Zachary Quinto: I’d watch. And so we have, gawped and imagined in our pervy slashtastic dirty minds!!!) the one that seeps through most is Lainey.

What I want to know now: is Lainey in the pay of Marvel, or WB (in a sort of double-bluff whereby dissing Dicaprio, Affleck, Hardy, and even starting on young Jesse Eisenberg, somehow works to enhance the gritty movies for real men demographic???). Because all the stories skew one way, and if paid for, that last ‘serious substance abuse’ blind was unconscionable. Zero accountability maximum Affliction, as someone put it. Or if it’s genuine stock in trade items of gossip from movie sets and industry insiders, is it part of the latest push for greater gender and ethnicity parity that’s taking hold so exhilaratingly furiously?

    • manta says:

I loved Michael Kohlaas but didn’t get this vibe from this trailer.
I thought of another film with Mikkelsen: Valhalla Rising. Of course, to be sure to capture a large audience, it will probably less graphic, more paced, but that the film that popped in mind.

      • Trillion says:

I could see the Valhalla Rising vibe. (one of my favorite movies of all time, but def not for everybody)

  4. Beth No. 2 says:

This looks AMAZING. The visuals and wide shots are gorgeous, the tone is distinct and repressive and claustrophobic, and the panting in the background is used to fantastic effect to add to that mood. I am not a fan of Innaritu but I am very interested to see this.

    • bluevelvet says:

You are right on the mark on this. I can’t wait to see this movie, good acting, good directing, good screenplay. What movies are supposed to be about. Chat w/you after you see the movie. Cheers, and enjoy watching! Plus, may I add, I LOVE Tom Hardy — so TALENTED!!!

    • kennedy says:

Agreed. I don’t really understand the “ugh” in the title. This movie looks awesome. Leo takes risks. He makes the kinds of films that we don’t often see anymore. Sure, he’s super bloated and kind of a pig when it comes to women but doesn’t take away from the fact that he’s one of the last real movie stars that also happens to make really interesting films.

      • Isan says:

“Sure, he’s super bloated…. ” lol at this comment, but I agree with all three of you. This trailer looks amazing and I would really love to see it.

  5. serena says:

Give him an Oscar and let’s be done with it.

    • Bella says:

      +1

Even if I’m not interested in a particular movie Leo makes, I personally feel like he can always be counted on to put on an excellent performance. I think he’s a great actor.

      • bluevelvet says:

Lets see how Leo does against Hardy…he’ll have to pull out all the stops to to match Hardy’s performance.

    • Liv says:

By this time it starts to get funny. He’ll never get an Oscar until he changes his shallow model-life.

      • suzmur says:

@bluevelvet Leo was with Tom Hardy in Inception, and he carried the movie well enough. The fact that the both of them are leading the film makes me excited.

      • hadlyB says:

All I saw in Inception was Tom’s lips.. dies. I wish he made more movies. Those lips.

  6. Fori says:

The trailer looks amazing, breathtaking scenery and I would watch DiCaprio in anything.

    • Happy21 says:

Yup! I’m there with you. Funny thing is I couldn’t stand him up until years after Titanic even. He drove me crazy! Then I saw I think it may have been The Departed or something during that era of Leo movies and I realized I was CRAZY. That the man could really act. I went back and watched most of what I’d missed – even Titanic.

Both he and Christian Bale are my faves. They both mesmerize me with their performances.

  7. Isabelle says:

Kinda of sexist when films get divided up as girl movie or boy movie. i love dark, moody, sometimes violent movies. the trailer looks amazing & will definitely watch it in the theater. Reverent & Sicario are the movies I’m looking forward to seeing.

    • Oooh, thanks! I hadn’t heard of Sicario, and I just watched the trailer. It looks amazing, and I’m so impressed with Emily Blunt!

      • Isabelle says:

Really like the director, he directed Prisoners. can’t wait to see Emily in it, a different role for her.

      • @Isabelle
Was “Prisoners” any good? I saw the trailer and thought it looked like crap….but I do love Jake G.

      • qwerty says:

I really liked Prisoners but it was heavy. Not a feel-good film,

      • Happy21 says:

I watched Prisoners in the theater by myself because it was an afternoon and I had some time. Well acted, really good movie. Very dark. Don’t think I could watch it again for another 10 years.

    • InvaderTak says:

Word. And now we’ll get labeled cool girls for it.

    • Josefa says:

Thank you. I love Quentin Tarantino and Marvel movies and I DETEST rom-coms, and I hate being considered a tomboy for it (because I’m really not).

I’ll probably watch this movie online. Everything DiCaprio is in has an air of pretentiousness that keeps me from entirely liking a movie, even if it’s what I’d call “objectively good” (as in I find no reason to dislike it other than the fact I simply did).

    • Dee Kay says:

I thought Prisoners was boring as sh*t but I will DEFINITELY see Sicario.

  8. Ashling says:

I will end up watching it. I love Tom Hardy and even though I find Leo gross these days, I still see all his movies. I’ve been watching him since he was on growing pains. You can barely tell who is who in this trailer. I don’t like how everyone looks the same basically.

  9. Jenns says:

That trailer needs more White Walkers.

  10. Magpie says:

Gigi could do sooooo much better.

    • Bella says:

      +1

What is the fuss about the Jonas brothers? I don’t find any of them appealing/attractive and they’re all really small-looking.

  11. bluhare says:

I would watch Tom Hardy in just about anything. Except something with Leonardo DiCaprio in it.

  12. Kristen says:

why is this a “dude movie”? it looks fantastic.

    • Josefa says:

Because there’s blood, weapons and dirt and we girls like movies with pretty people kissing by a campfire while listening to Regina Spektor.

      • msd says:

I think “dude movie” is referring to the the fact that there’s about 30 men and no women in the film.

  13. Jayna says:

There is nothing about Leo that interests me.

  14. ashley says:

Tom and Leo! Yes,i can’t wait! I was waiting for the trailer and I’m not disappointed.

  15. Margareth says:

The Revenant looks great. Besides, I don’t understand what a “dude-movie” is. In the same vein, we can dismiss at least half of the world’s classical literature for being “dude-books”.

Moreover, I will take a “dude-movie” directed by Inarritu over cringeworthy “girl-movies” like Pitch Perfect any day of the week.

  16. Ramona Q. says:

Alex Trebek clearly has never heard “Umbrella”. That was worth clicking on.

    • Bella says:

LOL I saw it when it aired and thought it was hilarious. He sounded like he was going into some sort of fit.

  17. Becks says:

    Tom Hardy, yes please!!!

The movie looks very GOT to me. They reminded me of the Crows and Free Folk. So yes, I will definitely watch!

  18. lila fowler says:

I cannot wait for The Revenant. I am a huge AGI fan and this looks amazing. Look at Chivo going for Oscar #3 (in a row).

    • Cee says:

I follow him on Instagram and his photos are brilliant.

      • alice says:

I want to too! what’s his nickname on insta?

      • LilyaMuz says:

I follow Chivo on insta tooo!! I love following cinematographers on Instagram – the way they see the world is fascinating / the glimpses into their work is great as well

you should also follow rpstam https://instagram.com/rpstam/
Rodrigo Prieto, one of my favorite cinematographers and another member of the Mexican Hollywood crew that Cuaron, del Toro, Lubezki, and Inarittu are a part of – he used to work with Inarittu but is now working with Scorsese. His photos are insanity, and all on iphone.
He also shot the most beautiful movie with Ang Lee called Lust, Caution that I wish more people had seen and did Brokeback Mountain with him as well.

        and https://instagram.com/libatique/
Matthew Libatique, another favorite. His work with Aronofsky is fantastic – Black Swan, Requiem for a Dream and The Fountain esp. His photos range from funny to beautiful. His recent black and whites are my favorites

anyone know of other filmmaker instagrams that are must follows?

  19. Kiddo says:

I just want to say I’m happy MIMIF showed up. The end.

    • mimif says:

      *blushes*

Speaking of Revenant, please tell me you’ve heard of the French series Les Revenants (not the French film of the same name and not the American reboot, you have to go for the French series). If not, you have to watch it immediately. It’s beautiful, compelling, totally eerie and definitely binge worthy.
In the meantime, I'll be keeping an eye on you, Kiddo. 👀

      • Lilacflowers says:

While you two are watching each other, who is tending fake baby?

      • Kiddo says:

mimif, I have not seen it, will make a note.

Lilacflowers, I thought you were watching fake baby…uh-oh.

  20. sauvage says:

Judging from the trailer, there’s a lot of heavy breathing and not much else. I have no idea what the film is supposed to be about except that there obviosly is a war involved and it’s winter. Now I want to know more. Damn!

EDIT: See? The trailer told me shit. At least now I know about Hugh Glass.

  21. Its an ill-fitting shirt

  22. Dee Kay says:

Well I had absolutely zero interest in The Revenant before the trailer but now I’m at least a little bit curious. People are criticizing the fact that this movie obviously has zero women and is just an excuse for DiCaprio to act scared and sad for over two hours, but I don’t care about that. What terrifies me is that there are indigenous peoples depicted in this film. I don’t know that Hollywood has ever done a halfway decent job of representing indigenous peoples and I get scared every time I see a studio picture about to make another attempt. What I got from the trailer on that score is that there are basically going to be two kinds of natives: the brutal savage and the mystic healer who does everything he possibly can to help the white dude survive (possibly/probably laying down his life for the white dude by the end). As per usual. Crikey, Hollywood. Come on. *massive eyeroll*

    • bluevelvet says:

It’s American history…the colonists decimated the Native Americans. I’m ashamed to this day. The Native Americans are still treated less than equal. It makes my blood boil, to put it nicely. Tragedy and extermination of a native people on a grand scale — definitely on par with extermination of the jewish and other undesirables throughout history. I have utmost respect for the Native Americans in the US. I hope this movie portrays it accurately like the slaughter that it was. Signed, a sixth generation Texan, USA.

    • mark says:

You do know it’s based on a true story? It’s based on Hugh Glass, do research before you complain

      • Ugh says:

Just because it’s based on a “true story” doesn’t mean that story could not have some horrible misconceptions about Native people.

Do a little thinking before you speak.

  23. mark says:

It’s nothing like GOT at all, Lainey has a hate on for Leo for doing the same thing she wants to do sleep with someone half her age.

But yeah you need to watch a rom com or pitch perfect considering you hate guy movies

  24. LAK says:

Wait, this hasn’t come out yet? I thought it was released years ago.

  25. alice says:

I trust Alejandro Gonzalez Iñarritu, he’s crazy talented. But the trailer is doing nothing to me, I hope there’s more to dig as a story, because from the trailer Leo is doing what he always does to his movies: ruining them. You see Di Caprio, always, not the character. If Hardy played the lead, now that’s a movie I’d like to watch.

  26. bluevelvet says:

I just accidentally erased my whole comment; it was almost a thesis on Tom Hardy, the greatest actor to come along in FOREVER. I compare him to Marlon Brando. I never thought I would ever think or say that about another male actor. BOOM! Yes, Tom Hardy, you are on par with the greatest. Can’t wait to see this movie. LOVE YOU TOMMY!!!!! From Texas, yes we recognize talent in Austin. Go for it dude…keep it up….I’ve seen all your movies and it won’t stop!!!!

  27. sassy says:

tried to watch Tom Hardy in The Drop…..got about 20 minutes in and bailed…….Leo isn’t a great actor..the only movies i’ve liked him in he’s been propped by costars so don’t see this one as one i’ll bother catching

    • Rose says:

I guess we don’t have the same taste in films; i loved Tom Hardy and The Drop…

  28. Mam says:

Looks like Dancing with the wolves but with snow!

  29. Gelina says:

I just finished looking at Kevin Costner’s movie trailer “Dances With Wolves”. I saw Oscar awards all over it. I went back and took another look at Leo DiCaprio’s movie trailer “The Revenant”, I did not see Oscar potential anywhere. DiCaprio is a good actor, but his personal life has gotten in the way of his acting career. Director Alejandro González Iñárritu won three Oscars for the city flick “Birdman”. But based on the trailer for “The Revenant”, he’s out of his depth in the wilderness.

  30. Ann says:

I’m over watching movies starring only men doing “manly” things. It’s only been done a gaztrillion times and bores me to death.

    • LilyaMuz says:

Yeah I mostly agree with this. and for people complaining about this being called a “guys” film I think it has to do with the lack of women in it? and the fact that movies with this focus have been done many times over. Not that that makes it a movie a woman can’t enjoy…in fact, many of my favorite films center around men’s stories but that’s because those are the stories that get the most exposure. I have had to venture and search for the female stories or the works that are neither female nor male – but just human, and that treat each character realistically. I guess it’s also just wishing that we could get more films centered around the fascinating women in history that remain unknown because most men in positions to tell their stories are just interested in focusing on the men, on the violence, on the tortured, complex or maligned man and not allowing much nuance/space for women other than the woman who was there to hold him back/help him/seduce/inspire him. Women are often seen as muses, or mere instruments of propulsion or of inspiration set free by man. It’s the fact that these mens by default tell the story of a man – and I don’t entirely blame them because we are drawn to what we know best, i suppose…but in the minds of those with imagination and talent, as well as a platform – I would hope they would be interested in exploring that which is not default to them, to give authentic voice to those that deserve it, and put the effort into crafting complex characters of all genders whose essence can come through. All too often this is not the case and the laziness when crafting women is all too apparent in Hollywood films.

I will continue to enjoy movies with men as the main focus because ultimately I love well crafted character-based films and a great deal do focus on men. Also because it’s not that men’s stories DON’T interest me, but i just want some more options, variety, and representation
I’ll also continue to work so that one day I will be able to tell the stories of both women and men that interest me.

  31. Anare says:

Why is everyone so super judgy about Leo’s personal life? So he likes to date models and party a bit. He’s not hurting anyone. His movies are usually really good and this one looks stunning. Leo doesn’t get Oscars cuz he doesn’t play the game. Good for him.

    • pinetree13 says:

I was just going to say this! As long as everyone is consenting adults, who cares? To say he must settle down and get married if he wants an Oscar is ridiculous! Why should his personally life have anything to do with an acting award? It should be based solely on his performance as an actor. You really want to go back in time to when anyone unmarried was a huge scandal and women were expected to be quiet in public and pump out as many children as possible? I thought we had moved past that to a time when people could be who they want in their personal lives (married, unmarried, gay, straights, etc) and not have it affect their career.

Sad that so many people are saying the same thing. “you don’t deserve an Oscar because you are too promiscuous for my tastes” seems to be the general theme of the posts here :S

  32. Happy21 says:

    I’m stoked!
