Chelsea Handler now claims she never ‘interested’ in doing a network late show

More than a year ago, Chelsea Handler’s E! contract was not renewed. It’s still up in the air as to whether Chelsea wanted to leave E! (which is what she always claimed) or if E! was really tired of her crap, especially since she only got the job in the first place because she was sleeping with the boss. Whatever happened, Chelsea was out of Chelsea Lately. This drama went down at the same time that Craig Ferguson and David Letterman announced they were quitting CBS, and CBS began to search for their replacements. What I believe: Chelsea went in to several meetings with CBS and made sure that her name was mentioned prominently as a potential replacement for both Ferguson and Letterman. All of the “sources” talking about Chelsea going to CBS were from E! and allegedly close to Chelsea. She really did make a play for those jobs. And she didn’t get them. So now she’s playing it off like going to Netflix was her plan all along.

When David Letterman announced he was retiring from the Late Show, there was much speculation that Chelsea Handler might be his lucky replacement – but the comedian actually wasn’t interested in the job.

“I was not interested in going to a network. I was never interested in taking somebody else’s job. That’s not an interesting job for me. I [had already done] something very similar,” the former Chelsea Lately host told reporters at a Television Critics Association panel on Tuesday. “It was never a very serious conversation.”

Since ending her E! talk show last August, Handler has partnered with Netflix and is in the planning stages of putting together a new talk show of sorts that will run “at least two” days a week. More immediately, Handler is producing Chelsea Does, a Netflix original film series consisting of four documentary-style projects starring Handler.

“It’s been a really transitional year for me. A lot of changes have happened and to have this come together in a way that I’m so proud of – I don’t know that I’ve ever been able to say that about something that I’ve done before,” Handler said. “I’ve always thought, ‘Oh, that’s funny.’ But I’ve never been like, ‘Wow, that’s amazing.’ ”

[From People]

Is this the truth? I seriously doubt it. I think she tried and failed and now she’s saving face by claiming that of course she wasn’t interested in going to CBS. It would perhaps be more sympathetic for her to come out and say “Yeah, I tried and I didn’t get it and it sucks.” I might respect her honesty.

Incidentally, what is funny to me is how quickly Chelsea has become utterly unimportant in gossip/celebrity culture. Like, I last wrote about her in February. It’s not that she’s “gone away” either – she’s been especially thirsty on social media, trying desperately to get press for anything and everything. As for her Netflix talk show… I thought the whole point of leaving E! was that she was tired of interviewing celebrities?

My family.

    Eh, I’m over their owner.

three words on Chelsea: I DON’T CARE.

When is her Netflix show even starting? I may be in a minority but I do think Handler was funny before she started interviewing real celebrities. She became entitled fast and thirsty as well. I don’t think she’s “the woman” to do the late night talk show thing. I will be rooting for a woman when it’s the right one, but it’s not her. She’s very off putting.

NO DATE SET.. she has some docu things she is suppose to do first.. but no date for anything. Nobody is salivating over seeing her. She is off E and I don’t see anyone talking about her outside of her flashing he breast every chance she gets. She also doesn’t seem to be hanging out with her “famous friends’ outside of Bullock.. (side eye sandy.

she is now trying to blame E for the tone of her show; but that show was her.

  5. aims says:

She claimed that she was tired of the whole celebrities, superficial world. That she was way above it all and wanted to be taken seriously. Meanwhile, we keep getting assaulted with her stupid selfies of her riding camel’s topless or the never-ending vacations she’s on.

    • lisa2 says:

I think she can’t do anything else for a period of time after leaving E.. which is why she is trying to stay in the media eye.. I notice she has not done much of anything. Hopefully; Out of sight OUT of mind.

    Gurl! Stop lyin!

  7. Talie says:

Just like she was over her show once she got her NY Times Bestselling books, her celebs friends and her mansion.

  8. LAK says:

She can’t say she didn’t get the other jobs until there is distance AND she’s on a successful job.

What she’s doing is smart because she’ll never be hired if there is a stench of failure about her.

This way she can re-position herself.

    • Neah23 says:

But no one is buying what she selling or even cares. There are also pictures of Chealsea at CBS hold a one of their pamphlet so the stench of failure is still very strong. This Netflix deal has been in the works for over a year and has gone no where.

THIS — > “what is funny to me is how quickly Chelsea has become utterly unimportant in gossip/celebrity culture” — was thinking this as I read this.

  10. Maya says:

Netflix is a good place to show Chelsea that people really don’t give a damn about her. There every single viewer is counted and published to the public. And despite what she claims/thinks, she is not that popular or talented to keep going on for years.

So wonderful that this disgrace to real talented female comedians is now slowly disappearing from the entertainment industry.

I have no sympathy for a woman like her who slept with a married with children TV producer to get a show and then has the audacity to call another woman home wrecker, is so vile that she has no problems using racist slurs against children, attacks others for posing naked but does it herself in the name of “feminism”.

Karma is such a wonderful thing, isn’t Chelsea?

  11. Alexa says:

I’m kinda interested in what she’ll have on the big screen next. (Doesn’t she have a radio show on Sirius? I don’t have “Sirius” so I’ve never listened to it.) I wasn’t a fan of the celebrity interview E! show called Chelsea Lately, but I DID find her to be hilarious when performing in her own comedy sketches. (Didn’t she have her own comedy sketch show called the Chelsea Handler show?) And I read one of her books – like an autobiography – and really enjoyed it.

  12. Peggy says:

CBS did not even wait 12 hrs to distance itself from Chelsea, the same day she was walking around with the CBS Logo, they announced that they were not talking to her about a late night show.
Not one late show asked her to guest host, and she was not working, just going around flashing her purchases.
Now that she is without a talk show the celebs that were playing nice her, are like Chelsea Who.

  13. Bread and Circuses says:

Chelsea is the one who called humanitarian Angelina Jolie “kind of evil” and called Reese Witherspoon’s drunken, entitled, out-of-control arrest for disobeying a police officer’s orders “not that big a deal”.

Yeah, I don’t rate Chelsea very highly for credibility.

    • funcakes says:

That’s because Reese is apart of Jennifer’s circle of friends. This woman has no shame. I would ghost her hard if I was Jen.

  14. funcakes says:

Thirsty is right. She was sending out a series of pictures topless for a while. It made me wince.
She was also on Howard Stern biting the hand that fed her.

  15. jwoolman says:

So any woman with any success that you don’t like just has to have been sleeping with someone to get it?

    • Ange says:

      But she actually was though.

      • jwoolman says:

That doesn’t mean that’s why she got the job. Really, it’s an old myth used too much to put down women. I know people here don’t like Handler, but she didn’t pop up out of nowhere and she wasn’t lacking in comedic skills.

    • Tarsha says:

She admitted that is how she got the job. And it is a matter of record for her. In a world where Justin Bieber can become big, being famous doesn’t mean you actually have talent, and Handler had the comedic skills of a lamp post.
