Isaiah Washington seems to be doing a bad job of taking his exit from Grey’s Anatomy gracefully. During his Larry King Live interview he blamed Patrick Dempsey’s lateness on his temper tantrum. He says the second time Dempsey was late to the set he decided to confront him. CBS has a report on the interview:
Washington, who was accused of referring to actor T.R. Knight using an anti-gay slur during the heated argument with Dempsey, said that in reality he was referring to himself.
The argument, which he said stemmed from his frustration with Dempsey being late to the set, heated up to the point where it almost got physical.
“(Dempsey) became unhinged, face to face, spittle in my face. I’m asking him ‘why are you sceaming at me?’ He became irate. By that time I pushed him out of my face and I began to say ‘there’s no way you’re going treat me like a ‘b word,’ a ‘p word,’ or a ‘f word’ in front of this crew.”
Asked by King to explain what three words he meant, Washington said “a four-legged dog” (most likely he meant to say “female” dog); a “punk”; and the anti-gay slur beginning with “f” which he said he used to mean “someone who is being weak, someone who is not treated with respect” rather than a homosexual.
Washington thinks the situation would have been different if he had used the “n-word” instead.
“I wish I had said ‘You’re not going to treat me like an ‘n-word’ because that’s how I felt,” he said.
Washington has now given half a dozen interviews since the incident, and he’s blamed Patrick Dempsey’s tardiness, the producers of Grey’s for being racist, and outright denied he ever called anyone a ‘faggot’.
I am rapidly running out of patience with this man. Doesn’t he now that after using the F-word twice, you should just shut the F-up, do the public service announcement, and stop blaming everyone else? Seriously.
