Subway spokesman Jared Fogle dumped by his ‘shocked and disappointed’ wife

Jared Fogle

Yesterday, the news came out that Subway spokesman Jared Fogle would plead guilty to child pornography charges. We heard that Subway finally (long after the initial arrest and raid happened) cut ties with Jared. The sandwich chain also belatedly pulled the unsettling Jared’s Pants Dance game from its website. According to ABC News, Jared reported to court yesterday and did promise to plead guilty “to allegations that he paid for sex acts with minors and received child pornography.”

In court, authorities alleged that Fogle contacted adult prostitutes and asked them to recruit 14-year-olds for sex acts. U.S. Attorney Josh Minkler said, “This is about using wealth, status and secrecy to illegally exploit children.” Fogle has agreed to “one count each of traveling to engage in illicit sexual conduct with a minor and distribution and receipt of child pornography.” That’s all? Fogle will also register as a sex offender and reportedly be on the hook for $1.4 million in restitution to 14 different victims. He’ll receive anywhere from 5 to 12 years in prison according to the agreement, but it’s possible he could receive up to 30 years from a federal judge. Jared’s attorney said his client “expects to get well” from a “medical problem.

One more bombshell dropped yesterday. Jared’s wife, Katie, decided to divorce him. Most people didn’t even realize that Jared was married, right? You can see a photo of Katie here. Even worse news? Jared and Katie have two children together:

Katie Fogle announced on Wednesday that she is “in the process of seeking a dissolution of the marriage” to the former Subway spokesman. Katie and Jared have two children, whom she said are her main concern after Jared admitted to “distributing and receiving visual depictions of minors engaging in sexually explicit conduct” and traveling “in interstate commerce to engage in unlawful commercial sexual acts with minors, and attempted to do so.”

“Obviously, I am extremely shocked and disappointed by the recent developments involving Jared. I am in the process of seeking a dissolution of the marriage,” Katie said in a statement issued to the media through her attorney. “My focus is exclusively on the well-being of my children. Neither I nor my family will have any further comment on the matter. I appreciate respect for my family’s privacy during this difficult time.”

[From The Wrap]

This story gets worse with every passing day. At least Katie Fogle is getting out of there with the kids. Jared won’t see the light of day for a long time, but divorcing him is the right thing to do. I can’t imagine how he’d be able to hide his actions for so long, and I don’t even want to think about whether his wife knew about it. Let’s hope he at least left his own kids alone.

Such a vile man. It appears that everything he is doing is for one reason only — to minimize his prison time.

I’m so glad to hear his wife is taking the kids and getting the eff outta there, I’m not sure if I could stomach anything other than that from her.

    • Lilacflowers says:

He may never get out of prison. Those are federal criminal charges he’s making a deal for. But the state could also seek for a civil commitment as a sexually dangerous person towards the end of his prison sentence, which could keep him in a prison for the rest of his life.

      • mom2two says:

I hope he never sees the light of day. I am glad that his wife is divorcing him and getting out of there with the kids.

      • Sarah says:

Part of the plea deal is that he will not ask for a sentence of less than 5 years and the state will not ask for more than 12. Now, the judge could do what he wants on it, but I live in Indy and this has been all the news for more than a month here. It is widely assumed here that he will spend at least 5 years in jail, but he will get out at some point. He’ll register as a sex offender for the rest of his life. He has no job other than his Subway gig and reports are that they was not at all fugal with his money. So…..he’ll probably be bankrupt. Hope the wife gets as much as she can in property and cash now because there won’t be much later.

      • noway says:

@Sarah I kind of hope your info is not true about him spending all his money. Would like to see his wife, kids and the victims get some money out of this, then he goes bankrupt.

Also, I know the statement from the wife is written by lawyers or PR, but I really don’t like the word disappointed used. Just doesn’t sound right for such a horrific crime, but smart to release one statement and say that is it though.

      • FLORC says:

I thought they already divorced yearsa go…

      • Liberty says:

FLORC, you are thinking perhaps of his FIRST wife. This is his second wife. Yeah, two women married this guy.

        Per Wiki:
        Spouse: Katie McLaughlin (m. 2010), Elizabeth Fogle (m. 2001–2007)

OH — More on his divorce from Elizabeth – apparently he was not so nice….a source here in this old Enquirer piece from 2008 says he apparently had a “bit of a mean streak” – it also covers his post-divorce dating:

        http://www.nationalenquirer.com/celebrity/subway-jareds-wife-gets-fat-divorce-deal

    • Starrywonder says:

Yup. And I hope he is put under the jail at this point. I hope he gets 30 years. He is disgusting. His poor wife and children. I am betting there will be some name changes going on in the future. Ugh.

      • joan says:

The HOMEMADE PORN included kids as young as 6, so I agree. I think he was trying to work his way down in age and felt safe trying to work through hookers.

Who knows what he’d have ended up doing if he kept going.

  2. frisbee says:

‘Shocked and disappointed’ seems a bit weak, how about ‘outraged and enraged’ at this s*itbag? Ugh I can’t bear looking at that loathsome face any more I just want to punch it. I feel desperately sorry for his kids and just praying that he didn’t abuse them as well.

    • Esmom says:

Agree on the visuals, I’m glad I haven’t eaten yet.

    • ncboudicca says:

I believe I would be “nauseated and horrified”!

    • Kiddo says:

Maybe shock comes first and then rage?

      • frisbee says:

Yeah if she had no inkling of any of this she would initially be in complete shock – I would – and then I’d have his balls on a platter…

      • Kiddo says:

Yeah. I think the disappointment is akin to grieving. If she is shocked, and just learned about this, I can imagine being utterly depressed on so many levels, because the person she thought she married is essentially ‘dead’, and never actually lived. And then to come to grips with his behavior, I would never want to be in her shoes.

      • Starrywonder says:

I would be shocked. A man you were married to and had children with was engaging in acts of sex with young girls and was facilitating others ability to look at child porn with some children as young as the age of 6. I almost got sick yesterday watching CNN.

      • Brittney B says:

        Let’s hope.

      • lisa says:

i would think i would be in shock first. we all know the world is full of pedophiles. it’s another thing to have one in the house. i also dont mind that she isnt using stronger language because she has to parent those kids and it must be terrible for them, everyone or lot of people anyway know who he is and what he did.

basically their life is a lie in a way, she must have 1000 emotions, all bad

      • Nicolette says:

Yes I’d be shocked. Then they would have to remove him from my presence because I would tear his sick twisted ass apart with my bare hands. The adrenaline would kick in and rage would definitely be unleashed.

  3. Lara K says:

I hope Anna Duggar is watching. This is the correct action when your husband turns out to be a loathsome SOB.
I hope he never gets access to his kids again.

    • Jane says:

OMG–that whole Duggar clan gives me the creeps.

As for Jared, I wish they would lock him up for life. I wonder if Subway can sue him for this. He is bring terrible press to the company and I am sure they have to do damage control of some sort.

      • Merritt says:

I have a hard time believing Subway didn’t know something was going on much earlier. He used his position as their spokesperson to lure minors.

      • stellax2 says:

        @Merrit
I can speak with authority that Subway and its franchisees had no idea. He appeared genuine, outgoing, pleasant, not a mean bone in his body.
It did come as a shock and the company is absolutely repulsed by his horrific actions.
Nor did his spouse have any idea.
        Always the quiet ones…
        Absolute pig
Subway would be than happy for him to be locked up and key thrown away.

    • Crumpet says:

      Exactly!

    • Brittney B says:

      Right?!

I hate to put the onus on Anna to behave properly though… for all we know, she could’ve been groomed and abused by him too. It can take years to see the light or stand up for yourself. But I do really, really wish the Duggar women — all of them — had taken this stand, or at the very least, that the media hadn’t given them a platform to say anything else. Josh did not deserve the satisfaction of seeing his victims defend him on national TV.

      • Kelly says:

Wait a minute. If parents can go for years without knowing that their children have been abused by teachers, coaches etc, how could a company discern this?

If Subway did, then they need to have charges filed as well, but pedophiles are unique brand f criminal. Their victims are so powerless and easily intimidated.

    • Sparkly says:

My thoughts exactly! Get the kids far away and KEEP them far away.

  4. embertine says:

Good for her, poor lady. People always say “How could you not have known?” when something like this comes out: errrrr, because he spend huge amounts of time and effort hiding it from me? I hope she and the kids and can settled and try to move on.

    • Algernon says:

Except he had child porn *in his house*. It was on his home computer. The FBI removed boxes of physical evidence *from their home*, as well as what they found on his computer. I wish this lady, and her kids, well because this is going to be very hard, but I do find it incredible every time a wife/live-in partner is like, “I had no idea!” At some point I think you do know, somewhere in your heart of hearts, that something isn’t right, and you choose not to listen to your instincts.

It’s like when the BTK Killer got arrested, everyone was like, “We never knew!” and one guy who lived on their street for years said something like, “Nah, he was always weird, none of us left our kids around him, everyone knew something was off. This is not surprising.” Even if you don’t know explicitly, I believe your instincts start cluing you in.

      • embertine says:

Not really. I work from home and I store a lot of paperwork in my office area. I don’t live with anyone, but if my spouse was going through my paperwork and booting up my work PC trying to check my files that person would find themselves divorced before they could say “plausible deniability”. I don’t think it’s normal for most couples to have (or want) access to the other person’s work-related paperwork. It would be very easy to hide wrongdoing and rely on social norms to not get caught.

      • Algernon says:

I agree about maintaining privacy within a couple. I’m big on personal space and I like my alone time, and my guy and I have pretty ironclad rules about respecting each others privacy. I also don’t futz around in his office because he’s a fed and he has a lot of confidential files in his office and on his computer, and I’m terrified I’m going to accidentally see something he’s working on and be arrested for treason or something. So I give his space and his stuff a wide berth.

That said, I know when he’s having trouble with stuff at work, even when he can’t really talk about it. I know when he’s stressed, I know when he’s down, and I know when he’s keeping stuff from me. It’s not about getting receipts or all the evasive maneuvers a serial sh-theel might engage in to hide nefarious behavior, it’s the gut-deep knowledge that something if off with the person you are most intimate with in the world. I just think people know when something is wrong, and either they heed that instinct or they don’t. These days, I believe most people don’t listen to their instincts. We think we’re smarter than our hindbrains.

  5. Jas says:

What a pervert, his poor children, imagine having him as your father; horror…. I hope his wife can move on to better.

  6. The Other Katherine says:

Based on what’s come out, it sounds like Jared has a strong fixation on early- to mid-teen adolescent girls. His children are small (one boy, one girl), like pre-school aged, so probably haven’t been in any danger. Given his felony convictions, at least their mom won’t have any trouble ensuring all future contact is supervised. Poor woman.

    • Goats on the Roof says:

As I understand it, the deal Jared made says that he can have supervised visitation with his kids upon his release ONLY with the permission of their mother. If I were her, that man would see neither hide nor hair of my kids ever again.

    • Brittney B says:

I thought the same thing, which sickened me but it’s the reality. There are different “types” of pedophiles, and he seems to be the type that targeted girls with developing bodies. Those kids will never be alone with him again, though… and I don’t even want to consider what could’ve happened if he got away with everything. His daughter probably dodged a horrific bullet.

ETA: Someone upthread said he was targeting girls as young as six. Now my stomach is turning.

      • Zigggy says:

Yes, on my news hour yesterday the anchor said that the minors he paid to rape were as young as six, but I haven’t heard a lot about that since…

      • justagirl says:

Tho even pedophiles who ‘prefer’ older children often target them when they’re young. It’s called ‘grooming’ and it involves gaining trust and also crossing boundaries – and often inappropriate touching….and then targeting them again, often years later. It’s sick. Highly predatory.

So, his own daughter, any relatives, and school friends could’ve also been victims.

  7. Stephanie says:

I hope she gets a bunch of his assets. What a turd.

    • Merritt says:

It depends on how much is left after the payout to his victims. Each of the 14 victims is being paid $100,000. But my guess is that there could be more victims out there.

      • someone says:

And that is just his criminal restitution payouts. He’s still facing several civil lawsuits from the victims. There will be nothing left for the wife and kids – but they can rebuild.

  8. Francesca says:

Back in the day, a girl friend and i would play a game where you would decide if you would sleep with someone awful if, immediately afterward, you could sleep with someone incredible (ie Brad Pitt, etc.). Her someone awful was always Jared from Subway. I didnt get it then, but man, was she right.

  9. OSTONE says:

I read somewhere that he was worth $35 million (I know that’s insane!) so if the wife takes him to the cleaners she can end up with a nice payout for her and the kids.

    • BearcatLawyer says:

But I wonder how much of that he (or his poor wife) will get to keep in the end. Just because he is paying restitution in his criminal case does not mean that the state of Indiana and the federal government will not pursue civil forfeiture of all assets obtained by or involved in his illegal activities.

    • Lucy2 says:

What?! When I read the “wealth and status” thing I thought really, the Subway sandwich guy has wealth and status? But that is a lot of money if it’s true. I hope a good payment goes to his victims, and his wife and children have enough to start over. I can’t imagine The shock and disgust at finding out something like this about someone you loved and trusted.

    • Betsy says:

I hope most of it goes to the victims, but as his wife and kids are his victims, moto, they should get enough for a name change and do a fresh start.

Who are these child porn ______ – freaks? There’s not really a word strong enough for them.

    • Adrien says:

Whoa! $35 M? I just read somewhere Thom Yorke of Radiohead is “only” worth $30 M. What the hell, man!

  10. AlmondJoy says:

Good for her. He is DISGUSTING and I pray his kids are safe now. Who knows what those poor children have gone through 😣

  11. Grace says:

Shocked and disappointed? That’s very mild language for her husband being a pedophile … How about horrified, scarred, appalled, disgusted, distraught, FURIOUS? How do these people hide such vile acts? When 2 people are living together, don’t they casually walk into a room and see what the other is looking up? Do they wait until everybody is in bed to look at it? Can they resist the temptation of a child upstairs in the bed? OMG! Those poor kids.

I don’t believe child rapists/abusers get better. It’s something gone haywire in their moral core. Lock them up, throw away the key. Or preferably gas them all. Some people are not worth worrying over.

    • Betsy says:

I know someone who just discovered her husband has been very active cheating, using all sorts of various sites to do it. “Shocked” is where she started out, too.

      • Grace says:

Yeah, shocked and disappointed are adequate words to use if you find you spouse is cheating on you – but pedophilia is in a different realm altogether. I just think stronger words should have been used, because it is a heinous and unforgivable act

    • renee28 says:

I generally don’t believe families when they say they didn’t know. But in this case, Jared didn’t have a normal 9-5 job. He probably had a home office and could easily justify his time spent online. When you add in his promotional travel, it was probably easier for him to hide it than the average person.

  12. Brittney B says:

Can I just say… this isn’t a dig at you, Bedhead, because it was actually effective… it’s so disturbing to see the juxtaposition between this story and the Muppets red carpet photos.

Disturbing on a guttural level. Makes me want to punch my screen. Mugging for the cameras outside a movie for small children… a predator in broad daylight, smug and probably feeling invincible. But that’s how it usually is, I guess.

  13. Dorotea says:

Disgusting POS. I was molested by a relative when I was a little girl and I watch my daughters like a hawk, no sleepovers in my family, dont let them stay alone with a male unless is my husband. I have a co-worker who we (my co-workers and I) think watch child pornography in his tablet/laptop, he had “viruses” and his cable company shut off his internet for a while and few years ago he asked one of my co-workers how to clean any the “viruses” from his computer because, even though he bought his computer at best buy, he couldn’t take it there for service. We (co-workers and I) dont want to get in trouble outing him with the police because he has few un-registered guns and he is “sympathetic with the people who gets fired from a job and come back to retaliate…”. Our previous boss knew about this and did nothing. Everybody is scared of him, I find him repulsive and disgusting specially because he is very “sweet” with the children that come to our work place (retail business).

    • Lynnie says:

Can’t you leave an anonymous tip with the authorities? It’s better than letting him be “sweet” with anymore kids.

  14. Jayna says:

More like shocked and repulsed and horrified and disgusted. I am disappointed seems so mild when speaking of your husband being arrested for child pornography and hiring underage prostitutes and looking for even younger ones.

  15. Cinderella says:

A pedo like Jared should be thrown in an MMA cage with a world champion, then carted off to prison.

  16. bettyrose says:

Did I hear that Subway only ended their relationship with this sicko YESTERDAY? WTF?

    • claire says:

I wonder if maybe they needed certain things to occur, be official, to enact a clause in paperwork or something involving legal / paperwork stuff like that.

    • kcarp says:

He got raided and they suspended him and then when it came out he was pleading guilty they cut ties.

I think it is fair to at least let someone be charged before they are fired.

I know someone who was accused of child molestation and it was absolutely false, he was fired from his 20 year job because he was arrested at work. A grand jury dismissed the whole case but the damage had been done.

  17. Andrea says:

I had a friend whose coworker was arrested by the feds for looking at child porn at work! There are more people out there like this then we realize. I think it is a mental health issue and he should be in a mental health facility forever.

  18. Lucy says:

God, poor Katie. Can’t imagine what she and her children must be going through.

  19. kri says:

I would be shocked and disappointed if my first swing at his privates missed its mark. I hate do overs. This pig belongs in prison. It just rips my soul to shreds to thing that in many countries, a woman is buried up to her shoulders then stoned by a crowd for (maybe) commiting adultery, and this thing has been using his status and his hookers to get with children. Oh so sick.

  20. greentea says:

at least she didnt stick by him as so many politicians and other wives do when scandal hits, they stand there and say nothing this one had the presence of mind to just get out. most of the wives we see stand there mute and supportive but you know they are humiliated inside, and pretend that nothing happened. i admire her for just making a statement that she is getting out.

  21. Nimbolicious says:

Well, now it looks like he’ll be getting what he deserves. Lots of six-inchers and maybe even some foot-longs for free once he’s in the slammer. And I don’t mean sammiches.

  22. CatJ says:

I thought this was his second marriage. I wonder what the first spouse has to say….

    • Liberty says:

It is. See my post above. The first was to a woman named Elizabeth, from 2001 to 2007. I wonder if he is paying her alimony, and now, this will be divorce #2. First wife was a nurse his doctor father introduced him to, and she was there as he lost weight, per a 2008 Enquirer story (link above).

I wonder if she has any thoughts on all of this. Their 2008 divorce was covered in the Enquirer where Jared was described as allegedly having a bit of a mean streak.

  23. Singtress says:

Ya’ll see today’s NY Post cover?
    Genius…..

  24. Jeanette says:

I usually dont have much disdain for the innocent bystanders in the family of these creeps..but I feel like this is saving face and she knew.

WHY NOW? And where the hell was she when he home was raided back in July and they were talking strategies with attorneys!

  25. qtpi says:

Can anyone tell me what happens to the rest of his money? I read he was worth 15 million and is paying 1.4 in restitution. Can the wife get the rest? I have no idea how this works. But she deserves every last cent.

eta: She deserves whatever is left over after restitution is paid. I obviously think the victims deserve their share as well.

  26. Mixtape says:

I would hope that, as part of this (extremely lenient, IMO) plea deal, he is forced to turn over the adults who are pimping/trafficking these kids via Craigslist. Taking down a customer is great, but taking down a business is so much better.

  27. JRenee says:

These types of pervs are control freaks. I’m sure part of the life is lies, lies and more lies. He has lied and probably continued to lie to her that it wasn’t true. I’m sure she is in shock.
Just because she waited a month to file, doesn’t mean she didn’t grab those babies and run immediately. I can’t fathom how I’d feel if I ever found out something like this about a man that I ever loved, let alone loved currently.
Oh, the 1st wife got a restraining order AFTER the divorce.
Run Katie & never look back!

  28. MyCatLoves TV says:

If she were smart, she would have been to see a divorce attorney at the first whiff of this horror. I know women are shocked when they find out something like this but – especially when there are minor children – then you gotta get your act together and protect what’s left of your family. I dunno but I suspect the reason it took a few weeks for the wife to file the papers is that she needed legal counsel to protect her & the kids’ future life. Without the scum.

  29. 5thHouse says:

His networth is 15 Million. I hope she gets half.

  30. Jeanette says:

I bet Batfleck is breathing a sigh of relief this week..and Nanho is having a fit.

  31. Stellar says:

Interesting she didn’t bother asking for sole custody, but just a fair custodial arrangement at the court’s discretion. I’d have asked for sole custody if I were in her position. The guy is a confirmed pedo many times over. Gross. Will Subway sue him for breach of contract?
