Would you like to see Kristen Stewart in costume for Woody Allen’s new film?

A lot of people have strong feelings about Woody Allen as a man and as an artist. While he disgusts me as a person, I still find myself watching many of his films. I thought Blue Jasmine was excellent, full of amazing performances, nuance, tragedy and humor. I thought Cate Blanchett deserved the Oscar for her tour-de-force performance too. I also thought the costumes stole the show in Blue Jasmine, and it’s worth noting that Woody’s films are always so modestly-budgeted that most of the incredible clothes and jewelry were second-hand, borrowed-and-returned from designers or cheap-o reproductions.

Why bring all of this up? Because these are some photos of Kristen Stewart at work on Woody Allen’s latest film, his first film set in LA since Annie Hall (although Annie Hall only had a few scenes in LA). Judging from the costumes, I’m assuming this still-unnamed film is set around the WWII-era? Like, early to mid-1940s? Maybe. I never would have thought of putting K-Stew in those kinds of period costumes. Kristen as, like, a bobbysoxer? Kristen in culottes? Kristen got this role after auditioning for Woody, which is kind of unusual for the way Woody works – usually, he has an actor in mind, he gives them part of the script and he tells them that he’d like to work with them. The actors almost always say yes.

Meanwhile, Kristen is still muse-ing for Chanel. She’s been modeling for Chanel in various capacities for more than a year now, and Karl Lagerfeld is so enchanted by K-Stew that he’s going to “direct” a film with Kristen in the lead role.

Kristen Stewart, Chanel’s newest campaign model, will star in a film directed by designer Karl Lagerfeld for the French fashion house’s upcoming show. The story, conceived by Lagerfeld, offers a fictional, behind-the-scenes look at a biopic in the making about founder Gabrielle Chanel, WWD reports.

Stewart portrays an actress impersonating the designer as a young woman. Geraldine Chaplin, who has played Chanel in previous Lagerfeld films, is in the movie as well. Lagerfeld filmed the project last month in two days at director Luc Besson’s Paris studio.

Lagerfeld said Stewart “played it really, really mean.” “You only see her in tests and she’s complaining about everything,” he told WWD. “She’s mean with the director; mean with the producer.” Lagerfeld also came up with the dialogue, costumes and casting. “They make so many movies about Chanel, why can’t I make one?” he said. The Métiers d’Arts show, where the Chanel movie debuts, will take place on Dec. 1 in Rome.

[From Variety]

It only took two days to film? Well, it’s not really a short film in the traditional sense, it’s more like a weird art project to help promote Chanel. It will be shown in Rome, but I hope Lagerfeld puts the film online so we can see this “acting.”

What kind of Lolita hell is that costume? Of course it’s for a Woody Allen film.

    • Shambles says:

Ugh ITA. As soon as I saw the thumbnail I was creeped out. They have her styled to look 12, and I think I need a ginger ale. Bleh.

      • teacakes says:

on the other hand, this is the ONE case where I think her bitchface is perfect for the costume, like even she doesn’t want to be in it at all and will communicate that by non-verbal means.

    • MBP says:

      My thoughts exactly :/

    • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Yep. He has no problem just flaunting his sickness for the world to see, knowing there will never be any real repercussions.

    • Pandy says:

      Lolita hell = perfect!!!

  2. Kelly says:

She looks really cute there, but I will never watch another Woody Allen movie again. When I think about the movie Manhattan and his relationship with the teenage Muriel Hemingway it makes me sick. Pedophile.

    • original kay says:

I won’t either, or Tom Cruise. It bends my mind how some can justify watching a Woody Allen movie, all the while condemning Tom Cruise and Scientology.

You can’t compartmentalize child abuse. you shouldn’t, in any case. you shouldn’t condemn josh duggar and then justify woody allen, just because he makes movies. add polanski in there too. there is no black and white when it comes to child abuse.

      • Nicolette says:

This! Child abuse should never be looked at differently because of who the perpetrator is. Scum is still scum even if it lives in a mansion, drives luxury cars and wipes it’s ass with $100 bills. Woody Allen makes my skin crawl and Tom Cruise is just too much of a freak to watch.

      • SamiHami says:

ITA. I don’t understand how anyone could enjoy watching one of his movies now. If I were forced to watch one all I’d be thinking about is crimes against children. Disgusting.

      • original kay says:

wait! I meant is IS black and white, there is no grey!

my brain cells are just not up to par these days, I need to edit better.

    • Trashaddict says:

      Yup. Nuf said.

    • CTgirl says:

Some of his movies that have stayed away from the whole dirty-confused-midlife crisis-schleppy-old guy who desires an inappropriate younger girl storyline are OK. That being said, I haven’t watched one of his movies since his marriage to his girlfriend’s daughter. He doesn’t see a cent from me.

      • Elisha says:

Yes, he is so gross, and I don’t even think his movies are that great! They all try to justify his sick mind, “young Manic Pixie Dream Girls (girls in the truest sense of the word) DO like older men ok?” I don’t see how anyone can separate the movies from the sick criminal who makes them. Talk about rich white male privledge!

On a related note, I like, love Steve Martin but something about Shopgirl has been bugging me, it’s got Woody Allen written all over it. It makes Steve Martin seem like a perv too.

  3. Jegede says:

Her face looks like she’s just seen the Box Office numbers for American Ultra!

    • mia girl says:

The photos of both her and Jesse Eisenberg on the Woody Allen set were suddenly on so many sites Saturday I feel like their people mass released them to deflect from the terrible BO numbers being reported.

I’m surprised the film opened so poorly. The premise seemed funny and I thought it would find a modest audience. Plus they both really promoted it on all the talk shows.

      • Jegede says:

I am too. I thought it would manage No. 2

And I have to be honest I never guessed Straight Out of Compton would take no prisoners they way it has (not out here in London yet)!

Seems Stewart, like Emma Stone, have a lot of fan girls/support on the internet that, yet, don’t go to their movies.

      • mia girl says:

It wasn’t a great $ weekend for movies overall and I didn’t think their film would be at No 1 or anything, but it ended up out of the top 5. Yeesh. Even with the good reviews both these actors received, that’s gotta hurt.

    • Div says:

I was kind of surprised too, as their performances got good reviews and the film was mixed…but franchise film fans don’t turn out to support the stars and casting Jesse as a CIA agent seemed weird. Plus, the trailer made it look like a rip off of Chuck meets Pineapple Express and it was opening against Sinister 2 and horror films usually kill at the box office. At least it was low budget. I worry about James McAvoy and DanRad though, as the same screenwriter did their Frankenstein film and it’s already been pushed back twice..and the critics ripped the script for Ultra.

      • mia girl says:

McAvoy is my man…but yes, I am preparing myself for the dud that Frankenstein is going to be.

Ever the loyal fan, I will still be there opening weekend though. You are all invited to join.

      • Div says:

I feel bad for both of them…especially Radcliffe, because a big budget flop (and it looks big budget, not even medium budget), will hurt him more than James. You can have James (although I adore him) as Dan is my tiny man. The buzz is already bad (the push backs, the script issues, etc.), so the chance of Frankenstein not being a dud is slim. Thank you for the invitation 🙂

  4. kay says:

Only thing missing is her holding a lollipop and jumping a rope. Let her be named Lolita and voila there’s your Woody Allen movie.

  5. JENNA says:

Of course she is dressed so that she can look like a teenager! We all know Woody likes them young.

  6. Ronda says:

Ah he made her look even younger, good job Woody! Keeping the creep cred!

  7. InvaderTak says:

Did people wear those shoes with socks back then? That seems like a hipster thing to do. Unless K stew did that between takes for her own comfort. T&Lo pointed out that she looks like a kid playing dress up; maybe that’s the point.

  8. mädchen says:

She looks really cute. In the pictures with Jesse she was very adorable!

    • Anname says:

Do you really not see the creepiness of Woody Allen dressing her like a 12 year old, given all that we know about him?

      • mädchen says:

I don’t see it yet, because I don’t know the context of this costume in the movie. I don’t like to judge prematurely.

      • Div says:

Yes and no. If she’s playing a teenager, it’s a normal costume and especially if she’s playing opposite Eisenberg (although Woody could very well cast Blake or Anna Camp as Bruce’s love interest which would still be icky). In context with his real life though, all his female characters are creepy when they look younger.

      • mädchen says:

I only commented on how she looks, which is really adorable to me, so different from her everyday clothes or even photo shoots.
She looks as cute as Emma Stone in her sailor costume some years ago. I didn’t see the movie, but I know it’s about a relationship between her and Colin Firth, my favorite Mister Darcy. The age difference creeps me out, so I didn’t watch it even for Mr Darcy.

      • Original T.C. says:

I thought she looks great and not like a creepy 12 year old. She looks her usual late teens early 20’s KSTEW. She was in another period film looking the same way. Woody Allen is a pediphile in my book and I no longer watch his films but don’t have an issue with this costume.

  9. the_blonde_one says:

He’s GOT to be just trolling us at this point right? RIGHT?!?

    • kay says:

He probably does and he loves it that he can get away with it. It’s disgusting.

    • Lara K says:

That’s what I thought too. It’s so painfully on the nose.
All this needs is for her to call him Daddy.

I never watch Woody Allen for this reason.

  10. minx says:

    Not really.

  11. Ankhel says:

Is Allen trolling us at this point? Or does he truly not care what people think? I guess the latter. Awful antisocial creep.

THE_BLONDE_ONE, missed your comment appearing while I was writing. Guess we thought the same thing!

  12. Katenotkatie says:

That outfit combined with how young-looking Kristen is = highly disturbing. Lolita hell is right, holy God.

I recently read an interesting theory about Blue Jasmine: Allen tends to mock the archetype of the “handsome woman” in favor of the pretty (very) young ingenue, and Cate Blanchett’s character is his ultimate parody of the handsome woman. Makes sense to me- any woman over the age of 25 in his films is automatically portrayed as a suffocating, delusional harpy.

  13. Eleanor says:

    He’s horrific.
I have a hard time not judging the people who still agree to do films with him….

    • Nicolette says:

Me too. And if they would refuse to do so he could just slither back underneath his rock.

    • Div says:

Judy Davis is in this too along with Corey Stoll and Anna Camp. People are still working with him all the time, and Joaquin signed on after the letter. Ellen Page, this is Eisenberg’s second Allen film, KStew’s first, Emma Stone twice, Cate Blanchett, Sally Hawkins…and the list goes on. ScarJo actually defended him somewhat, or criticized the letter. Kate Winslet, Jodie Foster, and John C. Reilly did a Polanski film a few years ago and Tilda is buddy buddy with him and Terry Richardson. Richardson just photographed Aniston’s wedding.

People keep working with them, even if we’d like to think they are turning away. Hollywood has odd standards. I like a lot of the actors who work with Polanski and Allen, but I’m still disappointed that they choose to do it.

    • minx says:

I DO judge them, every one of them.

    • Elisha says:

Relieved to know I’m not the only one judging the asshats who continue to work with him.

  14. EN says:

What I noticed is that Kristen’s facial expressions are those of Emma Stone, Woody’s new favorite actress.

  15. Viv says:

How can people still watch his movies? Especially after Dylan Farrow’s heartbreaking open letter? I genuinely don’t understand.

  16. GoSsip says:

I saw American Ultra this weekend and found it totally entertaining and surprisingly good acting from these two. I think he’s insufferable in real life but I find her intriguing. I’m surprised the reviews were so bad!

    • JENNA says:

It was a flop at the box office.Seems like people don’t like the Eisenberg/Stewart pairing. Not a good omen for that Woody Allen movie….

    • mädchen says:

Reviews have problem with direction and script, Kristen and Jesse are called the best thing about this movie. Their acting and chemistry are complemented. People on Twitter ( not K fans) are loving it.
It’s an indie with a studio distribution, and it’s doing really great in France.
According to some professionals, the 3 new releases assassinated each other, the same target audience.
I’m happy Kristen got some new public and that it’s makes money in France. Good job, Neighbors. Can’t wait until it opens in my country.

  17. islandwalker says:

Haven’t watched a Woody Allen or a Roman Polanski film in (at least) 25 years. Not about to start now. Vile creatures.

  18. JoanEleanor says:

She looks like she can pass off as a neater, younger Helena Bonham Carter. That’s all I got

  19. A.Key says:

    I love that outfit!

  20. Grace says:

    It’s the 1930s

And Kristen continues to get great reviews for her ‘acting’, even in a movie that is so-so with critics. I can’t wait to see the Chanel movie.

  21. lucy says:

    nope.

  22. Sammy says:

Kristen looks extremely cute! She pulls off this look. I think American Ultra had too much competition for the same type of movie goers. And the promos for American Ultra were poorly done. The films writer and director must be upset with way the promo was handled. Non-Kristen fans loved the movie and praised her. And many had either never seen one of her movies or didn’t like her before American Ultra. So at least the movie won her so new fans.
As for Allen, so many people in Hollywood, in positions of power, have done so many horrendous acts., who’s movies would you be able to see?
