You know how I really don’t know much about babies/toddlers/children? It’s true. So I end up talking out of my ass a lot when chatting about celebrity kids and judgy moms, but I also try to leave it up to the commenters in some situations, because I really don’t know if my concerns as a non-parent are the same concerns that a parent would have. Like, I’m looking at these photos of Kim Kardashian out in New York on Labor Day with little North West, and while I love North and think she’s a cutie, I also have to think that kids that small shouldn’t be wearing heavy necklaces? Like, that just looks like a flat-out strangulation hazard, but it also seems much too heavy for such a little person. Go ahead and yell at me! I really don’t know.
Kim, Kanye and North flew to New York this weekend because they (Kim and Yeezy) attended the wedding of music executive Steve Stoute. You can see some photos of Kim’s wedding-guest ensemble here. I actually thought she looked rather nice. The black Valentino was flattering and so many designers are doing capes now. It’s very on-trend. Oh, I’m including Kim’s twit-pic of her Valentino look at the end of the post. Kanye looks SO GOOD in that shot.
I also have to say that Kim looks so much better when she’s not trying so hard. Like, why isn’t she just wearing jeans and comfortable t-shirts all the time? Also: baby Doc Martens are the best Doc Martens.

Nori smiles around other people like Khloe and Kourtney or the nanny. She tends to be glum around Kim unless she’s looking at the nanny. Part of it is probably just stress, but Kim doesn’t really engage with her except when posing for a camera and Kim also shows little if any emotion in her face. Nothing to react to. And kids see right through faking it for the camera. Kourtney’s kids don’t react well to Kim, either. The difference in body language the kids (including Nori) have with Kourtney is striking. Even Mason, who is an affectionate little guy, tends to keep his distance when Kim borrows him for pap shots or Instagram. Kim has built an emotional wall around herself, probably as a response to Demon Mother in her childhood, although she used to show more of a range of emotion. I wonder if she’s having trouble with depression the past few years. Or maybe she’s overly medicated. Something is wrong.

I think it’s pretty darn cute that she’s Kanye’s mini here. Like Gingercrunch said below, the chain is probably hollow. And somehow I can just see miss Nori begging mommy or daddy to wear her “chain like daddy” or something like that. The mental picture makes me smile.
The world is turning the wrong way today, because I think Kim looks really nice in both her casual and formal outfits here. And Kanye is glowing is a$$ off in the Valentino photo. Is he pregnant too? Jeez. Yeez.
I love North’s hands, the way she expresses her discomfort with them. Look at that first pic. She does that so often. All the Kardashian craziness must be so intimidating to a little kid, all those paps.
I’m hoping Nori is at least getting more used to Kim. Her memory is more able now to hold on to faces of people she doesn’t see all the time. She still pulls away from Kim (her cousin Penelope does the same with Kim), but at least her fist isn’t clenched in these photos as they often have been around Kim. That’s a big sign of stress in a baby or toddler. Will be interesting to see if Kim relates better to Junior, the designer baby. I suspect Nori was not planned.

Eh. I’ve seen faux leather pants in the baby section of our local Target (in Oz, no less). Norths pants look the same. Thin & just as comfortable. It pains me to take the K’s side in anything, but that little girl looks comfortable and happy. The necklace is not long enough to be a choking hazard, unless sleeping, & the rest of the outfit looks comfortable too.
Surprisingly, I also think both Kim & Kanye look pretty decent for them Kim has surprised me in both these pics.
But yeah, I don’t think we should worry about this childs clothes due to these photos. Other things cause concern, & I may eat my words next outing

It was hot and she looks ridiculous wearing that coat in the heat. I don’t care what the calendar says, the weather here is still summer. Hot and humid. Dress for the weather, not for the calendar. A pet peeve of mine in general. It’s the same as when I see someone wearing a knitted winter hat on the most humid and hot days. I don’t get it and all I think is how much their head must smell when they peel that thing off. Same as how swampy her ass must be wearing that getup on a hot day. And same for her poor child. I was going to say, hallelujah, Kanye allowed North to wear blue out in public. But, nope, it’s grey. Of course, it’s grey or black or beige or white. newyork is on the verge of yet another heatwave. I live in Connecticut – which was actually cooler than NYC and even saying that, it was hot as hell AND HUMID yesterday. Kim and Kanye put their two year old in a sweatshirt, leather pants and stiff Doc Martens when she should have been in a light t-shirt, shorts and sandals. Poor kid must have been sweating (even if she was only out in the heat for a couple of minutes).

I wouldn’t let one of my kids wear a necklace like that, but it’s because I know my kids are rough and might get caught on something climbing around and strangle. If you know your kid isn’t like that or its just for out in public it’s no big deal. How old is she now 2 and a half, or 3. I think it’s case by case based on the kid by that point.
But it takes only a moment for a child to catch a necklace on something and strangle. I hope the necklace was just for the apps. Poor little kid in those hot clothes!
This is exactly true. My oldest is 5 and wants jewelry, but she has a 3 year old and 18 month old sisters who I worry about grabbing it and hurting her neck. I’m wary of necklaces on kids at all because I remember falling asleep with one on as a kid and waking up with it wrapped up in my hair strangling me.
It is case by case though, what’s not okay for my kids because of how active they are may not be an issue for another. Just never let them fall asleep with it on!

Kim is 5’2″. She has said she’s 5’3″ and uses that now . She has also said 5’2″ before and said 5’2 1/2″. She looks 5’2″ to me. Kourtney is five foot tall and doesn’t feel the need to lie. Kim looks about two inches or two and a half inches taller than her.

I had a ball dressing my daughter when she was little in all kinds of cute foo foo outfits. They are tiny for such a short period of time–don’t dress them as little adults. That comes soon enough.
North is at the age where she is coming into an awareness of her surroundings–of everything! By the age of four she will know that she’s living a lie, she will either start demanding her own hairstyle, her own clothes, her own toys–or, she will slip into denial and depression.
I confess. I’d like to see NW in some stereotypical sugary candy-coated unicorn and rainbow decal covered little girl clothing. I wanna see her in some hot pinks, yellows, purples, lilacs, and turquoises. And just for kicks, why not throw in a barrette, a hair clip or ribbon or two. Live wildly! Live boldly! Live freely!! Then perhaps after a month or so of living on the razor’s edge, I’d then be more than happy to see her back in her mini-Yezee (sp) goth couture.
My granddaughter is about 9 months older than North and she LOVES her pretty dresses and wants her hair up with bows or ribbons. I don’t get the outfit. I do like the more casual outfit on Kim, but the ripped jeans really need to go.
Kim has been surprisingly open about the fact that she has to negotiate with North sometimes because North wants to wear girly clothing and things like that. She even posted a photo that made her seem surprisingly human as she struggled to get North to take off her Frozen-themed helmet, umbrella and backpack so they could leave the house.
Like the majority of kids, North has a preference, her parents just don’t care and can’t be bothered to give her a voice. I’m not a parent, but I see families all the time with their kids wearing mismatched clothing or dress up costumes because the parents obviously let them pick out their own clothes. I think it’s adorable. Live a little.
They take themselves so seriously. I hope they chill out as North gets older because that can add up to a lot of pressure for a kid–to be expected to be some sort of fashion icon and wear things that don’t appeal to you because mom and dad want to use you as an accessory.
So totally agree. Last week in 90+ weather, my granddaughter wanted to wear her snow boots to the house and I let her. We weren’t playing outside or going anywhere and she usually has her shoes off in a nanosecond once inside the house. North needs to be able to express herself and at this point it clothing is the way to express it.

The little Docs can’t be comfy for kids. They are so stiff and heavy. They feel the same as the adult version, I considered them for my kids but changed my mind when I picked them up. Our Winter has just ended, and throughout the entire season a wore a coat twice. And that was on two nights out. Admittedly, I do tend to hibernate in the cold weather, but still…
I agree with your assessment of her face – in fact, her overall look, and that the “good” photo above (long view) is vastly different from the closer-up one you posted. Also, I n yours, the difference in her eyebrows is marked. The right eyebrow is distinctly arched, while the left is rounded, giving her a quizzical look. She’s completely butchered herself.
Anyone who thinks the black cape dress on Kim is a good look must only have seen the quarter-turn,-arms-straight-down,-distant-shot of her standing next to Kanye. Anyone who has seen the other pix, like the one linked above, can’t possibly think the armpit pudge oozing out and the smooshed breasts and the stressed fabric looks okay!

i personally wouldn’t let my toddler wear necklaces like that just because of the risk of something happening, or becaise it could affect the fit of her car seat straps. My real offense is the boots. Those are way too stiff for a toddler to be wearing. North has been walking for awhile, yes, but her shoes really should be more pliable so she can walk with a natural movement. She probably drags those. That and they just look uncomfortable for little feet.

The poor child! It is too hot to be dressed like that. I dress my kids in a light t-shirt with short sleeves, shorts, and sandals. So they can comfortably run around and play, which is what kids this age should do! They are almost the same age as North. And I don’t put crazy necklaces on them. I am glad both of mine are boys, I see parents put headbands and all kinds of stuff on their baby girls and it seems like such a bother and so hot to have all this stuff on you. My boys would just pull it off and throw it! Poor North, I wish they just let her be a child wearing comfortable clothes and playing like toddlers are supposed to.
