Pippa Middleton in Jenny Packham at the Boodles Boxing event: fug or fab?

wenn22865632

Here are some photos of Pippa Middleton at the Boodles Boxing Ball, an annual charity event that has historically been a favorite of the Middletons and the royals. This year, Pippa was the only royal/royal-adjacent attendee, and for the occasion, she was bright orange, as always (4 out of 5 Boehners). Her blue gown was well-received, although I personally don’t like this shade, nor the design. It’s basically a fancy mullet dress with a cutout in the midriff. Blah. The gown is Jenny Packham, by the way – Pippa’s sister Kate is a big fan of Packham as well, and Pippa has actually gone to Packham’s runway shows before.

I haven’t been writing about Pippa lately. The last time was… back in June, when Pippa pushed her way into the royal box at Wimbledon and the UK papers were judging her pretty harshly. To be fair, Pippa, James and Carole have all been criticized a lot this summer. And for what it’s worth, Pippa has actually been doing a lot for charity this year. Not only did she undertake that charity bike ride, but she recently completed a 47-mile swim-run in Sweden. Of course, in between charity appearances, she’s been vacationing like crazy too. Such is the life of a royal-adjacent Pippa Tips Writer.

Have you noticed that there’s not a lot of gossip about Pippa’s private life these days? Like, the UK papers aren’t getting “tips” about an upcoming engagement, and we’re not being gifted with stories about Pippa’s love connection with Nico Jackson, who was her boyfriend the last time anyone checked (although Nico did move out of England, possibly to get away from Pippa). I bring this up because when Pippa and the Middletons (minus Kate) were recently vacationing in Mustique, Nico was nowhere to be found. Instead, Pippa was having fun with some posh guy friends. Nico was not at this Boodles Boxing Night event on Saturday either – instead, you can see Pippa leaving the event with her “friend” Tom Kingston. Many believe that Pippa and Tom have dated in the past, or have hooked up on-and-off for a while. I don’t know, you guys… I’m kind of thinking that Nico is a thing of the past.

That dress is just cheap-looking, like some kind of budget prom dress – I’m amazed it’s Jenny Packham. The oh-so-classy orange skin-tone just makes it worse.

  2. India says:

I find this woman singularly unattractive. A total Wallis Warfield Simpson man woman. Her dress is fug because she is fug.

    • Cee says:

At least Wallis Simpson’s fashion game was on point. She was an amazing dresser, if not a beauty. Pippa appears to be neither.

    • Betti says:

Wallis Simpson had style and exquisite taste in jewelry – she always carried herself well. Pippa and Kate are nowhere near her in that respect.

    • Shambles says:

I think Wallis Simpson was actually quite beautiful. She may not have conventionally attractive features, but she had It. The way she dressed and the way she carried herself played a huge part, as Betti and Cee have said. But for me it’s in the eyes. She had beautiful eyes, and they looked like there was some kind of great mystery hidden underneath the surface. That look in her eyes is exactly what comes to mind when I hear the Coco Chanel quote about a woman being both “classy and fabulous.”

    • Dena says:

Wallis strikes me as a woman who knew what she was standing on in terms of her looks, her strengths & her weaknesses. I think her sense of style was innate but it also helps to know who you are as a woman (beauty, flaws, imperfections, what looks good on you, what doesn’t, what you like & don’t like). Once you know & have accepted that then you are on A-game. Pippa is still a rookie–a neophyte who is still clinging to beauty tips she got from Carole & that were popular in the 70s.

    • FLORC says:

Agree with everyone who knows about WallisSimpson.
She wasn’t a conentional beauty, but she played to her strengths and did have amazing style.
Her wedding dress to David still makes it in the best wedding dresses of all time lists. Not because o the universal style, but the overal look and for the times. She owned her imperfections and carried herself well from a designing perspective.

And omg her jewels. The colors and designs were STUNNING!

Say what you want about her political preference, but her style was on point.

    • Rachel says:

      so true!!!

  3. Shruti says:

    Fugly

  4. Bridget says:

Considering how much she’s outside running and training, at least some of that tan is natural – it’s the ‘extra’ to correct the crappy workout tan lines that’s helping push her onto the Boehner scale.

  5. Nicolette says:

Awful dress, and she annoys the heck out of me for some reason.

  6. Astrid says:

Ehw on the dress, the orange, and the styling.

  7. The Original Mia says:

That is one tacky dress. Seriously. Wow. And Pippa…choose your face over your a$$ because your eye bags have sunken into your face. Not a good look.

    • FLORC says:

I think it’s a makeup illusion. Too much powder around the eye with maybe some sunburn or excessive blush just under creating a strong contrast. Making her eye sockets look sunken.

The last photo direct the flash less on her face and you can’t see the same result. Her makeup looks good from a distance and in a dimmer room is what i’m saying.

  8. Coconut says:

The dress isn’t something I would wear but I think she looks good in it. I would have suggested a silver/complementary purse rather than matching.

  9. Elisa the I. says:

The dress is fug, but she looks very fit and toned. I’m a bit jealous.

  10. Betti says:

Dress is ok (great colour) but it looks terrible on her. Don;t know if its the tan, the sausage curl hair do or just the way she wears it. Maybe all 3.

What is it with her, Kate and sausage curls? I prefer both when they wear their hair up.

    • Dena says:

Yeah. I like the color. Not only is the dress dated & a bit tacky but it’s just sitting on Pippa. She’s not wearing the dress. The dress is wearing her.

  11. What was that says:

As much as she is irritating .and that is very..There is something about her situation that makes me just a little sorry for her..Second fiddle to her sister and who can she Hook as a Husband?
It’s not working out that well and she is getting older..Not a Duke in sight, not even a stockbroker?…Its like some Jane Austen nightmare were the potential husbands are walking away!!!!

    • Betti says:

There is good reason why she hasn’t been able to nab a titled man. A) most in her circle are married off and B) she and her family are notorious gold digging social climbers and as such not considered good marriage material, even if you’re sister is the future Queen.

Plus i think that a lot went down between the Middleton sisters and the aristo set during Kate’s gf years. Kate was notorious for growling at/scaring off any other female she perceived as a threat to her goal of getting her Prince.

    • ladyg says:

I agree — except I don’t have a problem with ole Pips. She’s got hustle and I’m impressed with her athleticism. But yeah, I do feel a pinch of sympathy for her when it comes to her personal life. For some reason — and maybe this is just imaginative thinking on my part — but she seems like the most liked Middleton (by the UK aristo set), but is having trouble finding a mate because a) people she likes are not “up to” the firm’s standards and b) men on the “approved” list don’t welcome the spotlight that will inevitably befall the couple.

That dress though? Oh no, sweetie. No. Give that one away — STAT — to someone who can salvage the fabric in some way — but not clothing — I’m thinking pillow liner or something…..

    • Imo says:

      Betty
Pippa is in a serious, long term relationship with banker Nicko Jackson.
Basic fact checking is pretty easy to do on the web.

      • FLORC says:

        Imo
I’m suspect she’s still with Nico. Vacationing without him and with a rumored ex. And being seen with this guys so often. Nico was everywhere by her side. And that he’s taken a job with a bank away is 1 thing. That Pippa is always elsewhere. It’s certainly a drastic change from what was.

  12. saywhatwhen says:

    Tragic!

  13. We Are All Made of Stars says:

She’s very fit but has no. fashion sense. whatsoever. Just think of how nice she’d look if she did the pre-Dior Jennifer Lawrence routine and wore simple, Calvinesque, look-at-my-bod dresses. Bellissimo.

  14. LAK says:

The dress is fug, she’s as orange as ever, and yet I think this is the best she’s looked since WK’s wedding.

Pippa and James have completed many marathons this year. There was that swim marathon in Turkey, the marathon in Kenya, the London-Brighton bike ride, the Sweden swim-run marathon and i’m sure many more…..

Nico has been increasingly absent which might mean everything or nothing. Very surprised he didn’t show up for this Boodles ball. It’s mandatory in their circle!!

    • saywhatwhen says:

When Kate became Duchess and there was a great deal made about Pippa’s posterior I thought that these two would do so well with a dual Charity initiative focused on getting British kids fit. They so love sports and I thought that they both could build on that. Pippa seems quite keen to do more, remain seen and climb the social ladder. She could do so well if managed properly. But I feel that the missing link is the ever present mamma. If mamma shuts her trap and these women take professional guidance they could still do well.

      • Anne says:

What an original thought. It seems to me “The Firm” was quite intent on separating Kate from the Middletons in an attempt to “elevate” her, but I think you’re right about Pippa being the one with the energy and enthusiasm to make a real contribution. Perhaps they should consider finding appropriate ways of including her more. . .

    • Dena says:

I’m shocked she isn’t angling for some sort of lifestyle gig or something with a lifestyle slant around cycling or fitness in general.

  15. MooHoo says:

I feel very sorry for Pippa. She cannot lead a normal life due to her sister’s marriage, will constantly be criticised by the media and will probably find it very hard to find a sincere partner and not some hanger-on who is really only interested in her connections. Additionally, I commend her charity efforts.

    • lunchcoma says:

Would it really be so hard for her to lead a normal life if she wanted to? If she’d had some sort of normal job to begin with and hadn’t tried to be a writer, I think she would have faded from the public eye long ago.

That being said, I agree it may be hard for her to find someone who’s not a hanger on.

    • helen says:

Charity bike ride and charity swim-run? For someone as athletic as her, this is a typical weekend. If she were fundraising that would be one thing, and I don’t know that she’s not, but if she’s just participating, she’s spending $20 or $50 or $100 to do some catered bike tour where the volunteers and organizers are the ones that are truly selflessly supporting a charity and grazing casual club ride cyclists. (I do this, fairly often. I am forever thankful for the support and organizers, many of them cyclists who took a pretty day off to give their time to a cause and to help successfully run an event.)

      • Dena says:

My co-worker just completed a 100 mile cycling ride yesterday. For some reason, reasons beyond me, she and the other cyclist where able to stay off the radar. Hmm. Go figure.

      • Bridget says:

The swim/run was a significant distance – 6 mile swim and 40 mile run. And if she’s paid her entry to participate then she is just as entitled to compete in the event just like every other person that paid their entry fee. Those events aren’t for charity, they’re For-Profit. Which you should know if you’ve participated in so many of them.

And for what it’s worth, I’m fairly certain she’s done her events in support of a charity.

      • Imo says:

        Bridget
There you go with your facts again.

  16. Vava says:

Well, the Middleton women all have nice figures, they look good from the neck down. Their faces, though……………..the aging is really seeming to accelerate lately.

  17. Citresse says:

That colour is hard to wear. I think the look would be better if she’d worn her hair up with silver accessories in her hair and the shoes and purse more formal. Also a shawl would’ve been nice.

  18. lunchcoma says:

That dress is hideous, but her man-friend is pretty at least. Go get it, Pippa!

  19. Micki says:

I like the colour and hate the crystal flowers

  20. Anaya says:

Maybe Pippa should consider having her eyebrows reshaped. It could make a good difference to her face if shaped properly. She’s too tan but I think the dress is okay. For some reason I like Pippa. At least she gets out there in support of various charities. To me she’s alright.😀

  21. jmj424 says:

    That dress is beyond hideous.

  22. FLORC says:

So, we’re calling races charity events because proceeds go to charity… I’m tacking on my races as charity events then.

    Shouty Crackers!
The things that get called charity events like credit should be given for attending… Who runs a marathon because it’s for charity? You run to run a marathon. That it goes to a good cause is a side benefit only. I’m not including charity walks as those are more for donations, awareness and mild activity. Not the commitment needed to train for that distance.

    • Bridget says:

FLORC, don’t you typically include the York sister’s participation in the London Marathon relay as a “charity event”? I’ll give Pippa credit: she’s done her events on behalf of various charities, and she’s chosen some really challenging events.

And some of those charity marathon entries are no joke. A NY Marathon bib runs you about a $3k fundraising minimum, and a Boston bib has a $5k minimum (and that’s not including your travel/hotel). The Nike Women’s Marathon is Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s single biggest fundraiser every year (I’ve done the event, and out of 20K entrants at least half if not more are LLS). Even some of the local hometown races are $500-$1k fundraising minimums.

      • LAK says:

I assume they are all charity events for many entrants, the Yorkies and Pippa included.

Pippa’s dedication this year has been quite impressive.

I’d be equally impressed with James if his company wasn’t failing. Clearly smarter or harder, he needs to pay more attention to his company than to his extra curriculum events.

      • Bridget says:

@LAK: I was merely pointing out that it’s a popular and legitimate fundraising method nowadays (which I’m fairly certain that FLORC already knows considering how active she is and may just be grumpy on the subject :)).

James and the businesses. And I am surprised that considering how close the Middleton siblings are and how much James and Pippa do these events together that Kate doesn’t participate in them at all. Not that I need anyone to point out the reasons why. But if that were my family, no way I’d be okay with being left in the dust.

      • FLORC says:

        Bridget
I don’t. Not running only. Factors I look for is bringing awareness to a cause. Using that bit of self promotion as a tool to the organization. As a few.
Regarding Eug and her marathon it’s great and she promoted the hell out of it with direction placed to the organization, but I’ve barely discussed it here or under this handle.

And I know the prices of those bibs, and they are pricey, but you’re stating the extremes. Tough to get spots. You usually get lucky with a company team sponsoring for publicity and fees are covered. I’ve run in a marathon for a company that had empty spots and I had friends on the team that worked for the company. It’s also unlikely you’re paying thousands out of pocket for that charity. You’re paying to say you ran that race and had that experience.

Some races advertise their cause highly. They’re more likely to get people running for that cause. That’s an exception and that’s why promotion while training is important to claim (imo) this is charity effort with awareness.

I wish we had Kitten here. I know she’s a runner. Would love the input.

      • Bridget says:

@FLORC: actually no, I’m not stating extremes. Charity running is HUGE, and there are several premiere races that draw that kind of minimum – Nike Women’s, Boston, Chicago, Big Sur, London, NY, Boston, LA, Marine Corps, the multitude of Disney races – and even the smaller races still are frequently used to raise money. The biggest have easily thousands of charity entrants raising money with a minimum donation of at least $1-2k. Corporate groups are actually far scarcer than charity groups, though ultimately both work similarly in that if there are any extra bibs it’s a “use it or lose it” scenario. In your case you lucked out with getting an excess bib, but that’s not normally the rule. It’s hugely lucrative for charities to do this. And keep in mind that “Charity Running” is different than signing up for a race that has agreed to donate a small %age to charity. In this case, the charities actually work directly with the race and are either given or purchase a group of bibs, and then they turn around and give those bibs to individuals that agree to fundraise the minimum amount of money. That’s why the biggest races are also such huge fundraisers – because people who cannot get entry otherwise will agree to fundraiser (NY Marthon especially – only about 13% of their 80K bibs are given by the lottery, the rest are charity or legacy). Charity running brings in far more donation money than any bib %age And you’d be surprised at how dedicated some people are to it.

And I’m sincerely not trying to be snarky, but the charity running is something you typically bring up when listing why you like Beatrice York (agenda it only stuck in my head since I’m a marathoner). I’m merely pointing out that you seem kind of unimpressed with the younger Middleton’s effort while it’s praiseworthy from the York. Pippa Middleton has said and done some ridiculous stuff, but lately she’s been doing some legit athletic endeavors.

  23. raincoaster says:

She’s got a serious case of “Man Face” in that top picture. The dress is fine, but very prom-like. Pippa is just basic. Her writing is awful, and her book is a fantastic found comedy item.

  24. seesittellsit says:

FUG – the woman hasn’t an iota of taste. Ummm – why is she still on the scene? Can’t she find another aristo to take her off our hands?

  25. hazel says:

As for the dress–my first thought was ‘prom’. As for her escort–BF or ‘just a friend’, his walking down the sidewalk so far ahead of her seems so inconsiderate.

  26. HoustonGrl says:

That dress is horrid. I just can’t with Pippa. Wouldn’t even know where to begin.
