Prince Harry celebrated his 31st birthday by doing a public event: amazing?

wenn22878337

God bless it. Prince Harry is back in England after a summer spent traveling and working in Africa. And Harry isn’t like his brother and sister-in-law – Harry doesn’t need to take a month off to “recover” from a trip abroad. No, Harry made a big public appearance today at the 75th anniversary for the victory in the Battle of Britain. Harry still hasn’t shaved his “holiday beard” though, which is giving him a roguish, deliciously unkempt vibe.

Today is actually Prince Harry’s 31st birthday. It says a lot about him that he chooses to work on his birthday, right? Word around the Daily Mail is that Harry’s on-again girlfriend Chelsy Davy is planning a big birthday party for him at some point this week. Chelsy is working with Harry’s friend Guy Pelly to organize a boat-ride down the Thames, and the boat will just be some huge, decadent party. Something something lots of tequila.

We still don’t know if Chelsy and Harry are just banging for old time’s sake or if they’re really getting back together for good. I wonder what Chelsy thinks of the beard? Hm.

    oooh scruff!

  2. Allie says:

It’s basically blasphemy for a redhead to daydream about another redhead but I don’t care. I’m going to drool about these beardy pics all day.

    • Wonderbunny says:

What? That’s a thing? 🙂 In our school we had this couple who were both redheads and they were just so adorable together. Not sickly sweet adorable, but just two people who were clearly meant to be together. They became a couple really young and still got married, had kids, etc. and I always thought of them as these really lucky people who just found their perfect mate early on. I’m sure they’ve had plenty of ups and downs, but I still think of them as one of the best couples I’ve ever met.

  3. aims says:

I like it. I like it A LOT!! The best he’s looked in a while.

  4. PoliteTeaSipper says:

    keep the beard!!!!

  5. Alice says:

Can Willie pull an Edward VIII? Pretty please? Looking good with that scruff, Harry.

  6. AlmondJoy says:

I love the scruff! This is actually the first time I find him attractive.

  7. Pedro45 says:

Only these inbred, entitled, over-privileged people think attending a day of remembrance (Note: not an entire day) is “working”. And on his birthday too! The horror!

    • Not Sorry says:

But watching a flypast and being a passenger in a Spitfire is suuuuuuuch hard work. I hope all the royals remembered to give true thanks to the Battle of Britain pilots who saved them from the same fate as the Romanovs that day in the skies.

      • Pedro45 says:

I am sure they didn’t. Harry didn’t even know that a Nazi uniform wasn’t an appropriate costume, so…

      • mm says:

Harry did. He actually didn’t end up flying today – after another plane went out of commission, he gave up his seat for a 95-year-old Battle of Britain veteran to fly. I do hope you appreciate his appreciation!

      • Pedro45 says:

Wow, I stand corrected. A courtier told him what to do and he followed directions! Gold star for Harry!

      • FLORC says:

        Pedro
That costume was deflection from William’s costume that was very insulting. Also, the Nazi costume was William’s idea. Add Big Brother influence and alcohol you get poor choices. That’s not to say Harry was free of fault.

And Harry has acted like this randomly and often. Do you understand what a courtier is and that they aren’t whispering directions in the ears of the royals much at all? Their work tends to be more after the fact.

      • Pedro45 says:

A person who attends to a royal as companion or adviser? Yes, I get it. Sorry if it was used incorrectly. So who are the poor minions who stand with these idiots to make sure they don’t choke on their food?
Ok, both Wiliam and Harry are equally ignorant of history. Is that better?

      • antipodean says:

He’s cute, but that Windsor proboscis is so unfortunate.

      • Reece says:

That entire party was insulting as it was entitled “Colonials and Natives”, iirc. IMO everyone who set foot there was a complete (insert multiple expletives) idiot.

      • FLORC says:

        Pedro
It’s not because you’re still letting a bias cloud any actual facts that would conflict with your current opinion. There no point in engaging that mentality. I’m out.

        Reece it very much was.

    • bluhare says:

IMO, the point is more that Harry has been in Africa for a while, came back this past weekend, and is out today. He was also in Australia earlier this year, came back to the UK for a few days to participate in an event, and then went back to Australia.

As opposed to his brother and sister in law.

    • anne_000 says:

Harry gave up his seat for the 90-something WW2 RAF Ace and two wounded soldiers, including one who’s leg got blasted by a bomb in Afghanistan.

And even though it wasn’t “suuuuuuuuuuch hard work,” his attendance brought more attention to the event, which will hopefully educate the younger generations.

Far better than sitting on one’s ass drawing pictures at one’s over-sized mansion, getting haircuts, and hiding away 2.5 days per week or less indulging oneself in a copter joyride while telling the public what a “good guy” “hero” one is…

  8. MrsB says:

Oh, I hope Harry and Chelsy can finally make it work, get married and have babies! I have an irrational love of these two as a couple.

    • Deb says:

Same here! I’ve always loved them together, and my heart did a little dance last week when it was reported they might be happening again!

    • Liv says:

Gosh, me too! I really hope they can work it out. Just imagine how refreshing Chelsy would be!

    • Ysohawt1 says:

Beating a Dead horse. Broke up so many times it would just end in another breakup but this time it would be Divorce if they married.

Love Chelsy but no way is she going to live in that Royal fishbowl, she doesn’t want the life and Harry has cheated on her numerous times, there is a reason why they aren’t together, it works until it doesn’t.

I think the press just needs Harry to have a girlfriend again because William is so dull and hardly appears in public.

I don’t believe they are even contemplating getting back at all.

  9. saywhatwhen says:

HB to the Good Prince Harry.

  10. QQ says:

The Scruff Is working I’m more worried ( and so it’s him by the looks of these pics!?!) about that Winsdor hair balding thing coming through

    • Stacey says:

Harry has a massive balding patch on the back of his head. The spiked hair is an attempt to disguise it.

      • QQ says:

I imagine as much Stacey cause you could tell during the royal wedding, he might as well leave the beard and close crop it, he’d look so good that way

      • Who ARE these people? says:

Ouch, it’s hard to disguise. Spiked hair around a bald patch is like Stonehenge.

      • Ysohawt1 says:

He’ll go bald like Chàrles did, just a bald spot on top, back of head, he won’t go full bald on top like William. JMO

      • ladyg says:

        @watp

“Stonehenge” – LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL!!!!!!!!! Aw man, Thanks. I needed that laugh.

    • ldub says:

he’s gonna look hot as sh*t when he finally does what most balding guys do.
shave his head and keep beard/stubble.

ugh. that would be sooooo hot

    • Crumpet says:

It would be the Spencer balding thing though, as balding genes travel through the mother.

  11. Blueberrypie says:

If I was Chelsea- I’d bang it for old time’s sake… I’d keep in touch, stay friendly, hook up, whatever, but I wouldn’t commit or wade too deeply into that water. With Will and Kate turning out to be such… well… duds, I feel like there’s kind or more attention placed on Harry, and especially, if he marries, how he and his wife handle working/media/public. Plus, the inevitable Kate vs. Harry’s wife campaign, and dear me, if he marries an aristo, what will happen to Kate’s middle class values and horrid bangs?? Nah, man, if I’m Chelsea, I’m having fun, but staying clear.

    • Hudson Girl says:

Yeah, you are completely right- and she is staying clear so far.
The report last week of them being back together is pure fiction from a low-rate gossip source, which then every other site simply repeated.
Royal gossips with actual sources have restated he’s not currently seeing anyone.

  12. Astrid says:

YES! Forget lazy Will and kate and their excuses.

  13. Chrissy says:

Love myself some Hipster Harry. And he’s actually working on his birthday too.
    Doolittles take note!

  14. NUTBALLS says:

I cosign on the scruff. And Chelsy.

  15. potatopie says:

I really do think he resembles James Hewitt – I know, that supposedly has been dealt with over the years in saying “no”. But, seriously, check out pictures of Hewitt when he was younger. Ever so striking resemblance.

    • Jayna says:

Or he resembles Charles but with Diana’s brother’s red hair and skin complexion.

He has Charles’ close-set eyes. He has that scruffy shock of hair like his uncle in texture.

    • frisbee says:

Do you think? I was thinking how much like Prince Phillip he’s looking lately especially from the bridge of the nose down. Seem to remember the red-head gene is also in the Spencer side of the family.

    • Cee says:

He looks like a ginger version of Prince Philip. Google him as a young man 🙂 The Windsor is not very strong in Harry.
I also see a lot of Diana in his expressions.

    • mm says:

He looks like Charles. He has Charles’s lips/mouth and therefore his funny expressions, like this weird little grimace the both of them do when they are embarrassed.

    • Jayna says:

He’s the best thing about the Royal family, for me.

    • Betti says:

Nope – he’s Prince Philip as a young man. In fact Harry, Willy and Edward resemble him quite closely.

When Harry was younger he resembled his Uncle a lot -that’s who he gets the red hair from, his mother’s side of the family.

      https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=prince+philip&espv=2&biw=1322&bih=593&site=webhp&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&sqi=2&ved=0CAYQ_AUoAWoVChMImNrHyqf5xwIVqgfbCh30JQbM#tbm=isch&q=prince+philip+young

    • notasugarhere says:

A poster pointed out a few months ago how much James Hewitt looked like a young Johnny Spencer, Diana’s father. If there is a resemblance, it would be due to the Spencer genes. I’m with most of you, he’s a combo of Charles and Philip with red hair.

    • LAK says:

I really understand why people think he looks like Hewitt because Hewitt looks like a Spencer. Johnny Spencer to be exact. So Diana had an affair with a man who strongly resembled her father. Google pics of her father as a young man and put them side by side with Hewitt’s pics around the time of their affair.

Unfortunately for Harry, he had a strong Spencer resemblance, together with the red hair taken to be a Spencer + Hewitt trait when most people have forgetten that the BRF also has a red hair gene going back to the early Plantagenets, Hewitt was suspected of fathering him. Nevermind the time lapse from Harry’s birth and the first meeting between Diana and Hewitt.

Once the Windsor genes took over, the Spencer in Harry receded, and lucky for him, the Mountbatten genes are stronger than the Windsor so he is now a curious mix of all three, with Mountbatten coming out on top.

The ongoing debate isn’t helped by the fact that Philip has been old so long that people really don’t remember him as a young man, so they don’t recognise how strongly Harry resembles him.

      • FLORC says:

        LAK
Do you think HArry will largeely escape the Windosr genes? I’ve been looking at old photos of those from the same families… I’ve been left with Windsor genes always trumping in the end.

Still, with Harry, it’s been his personality that wins me.

      • Ysohawt1 says:

Hewitt does look like a Spencer, but when Charles and Hewitt were younger in the 80’s , I use to think Hewitt looked like a Red haired Prince Charles!

      • What was that says:

I am sorry to disagree with you but I have more genes related to the medieval kings than the Hapsburg-Coberg-Battenburg .As do the Spencer’s …
I don’t wish to rerun old debates but just to give my opinion that the Windsors are more distantly related to the older royal lines than many others
Yes they are the Royal Family but their succession is more recent….

      • LAK says:

What was that: who is your comment directed to and what how does it relate to the ‘Hewitt isn’t harry’s father’ debate.

    • Miss Melissa says:

I think he looks just like Hewitt.

  16. Citresse says:

Facial hair suits him, though a little more groomed is better- Harry looked good with five o’clock shadow in his 30th birthday documentary.

  17. Esteph says:

I want him to rub the scruff against my cheek 🙂 my face or bottom, who knows but mmmm, me likely

    • Lama Bean says:

HA! You beat me to it. My comment was going to be very similar.
All of the redheaded scruffy hotness. Gracious.

I doubt anyone else is going to see this. Anyone who does may try to hang me in Celebitchy Town Square. But I see a resemblance to Fassy when Harry has the scruff.

  18. MyHiddles says:

I love the scruff. I hope HMQ doesn’t make him shave it off again.

  19. Citresse says:

If he grows it really long he’ll be like the Red Earl; John Spencer 5th Earl Spencer.

    • frisbee says:

Thanks Citresse, I thought the red haired gene came from the Spencer side but couldn’t remember where from (and couldn’t be bothered to look it up tbh!)

      • Citresse says:

Yes, I viewed the Althorp documentary; the Secrets of Althorp hosted by Charles, 9th Earl Spencer. It was a good documentary but I still don’t get his choice of painting added to the collection and I wonder if his latest marriage has worked?

      • LAK says:

Frisbee: The Spencers are mostly redheads, but so are the royal family. The red gene skipped a generation, who have also been present for so long, that people forget this fact about the royals.

The red gene in the royal family goes as far back as early Plantagenets. The tudors were famously red. Their red would have been passed to them from the Plantagenets via Elizabeth of York, daughter of the very red Edward 4.

And so on and so forth. The most recent infusion of red came from Queen Alexandra, wife of Edward 6 who was a redhead.

      • frisbee says:

        LAK thanks for the info!

      • Citresse says:

Fergie is red and more recent though her children are much further down the line of course.

      • LAK says:

Citresse: setting aside all the people who married into the family over time thus contributing their own genetic markers, Fergie, like the Spencers, is a direct descendant of Charles 2. One could say that the red hair is a genetic marker both families inherited from their royal ancestor.

Fergie is actually more related to the royal family than the Spencers because her ancestors married directly into it, so she’s cousins with some of the wider family members such as the Gloucesters whilst also being married (and divorced) from the main branch.

Since there hasn’t been a visible redhead in the recent 3 generations of royals that cover David, HM and Charles’s generations, people have forgotten about the red gene of the royal family.

If you look up portrait after portrait of their ancestors, there are quite a few red heads.

      • Bridget says:

Double Plantagenet blood from Henry VII and Elizabeth’s marriage, because Henry VII was part Beaufort – an illegitimate Plantagenet offshoot.

      • Guest21 says:

        @LAK

You mean Alexandra, wife of Edward the *7th*
Edward the 6th died as a child

      • LAK says:

Guest21: YES!!! I do that every .single. time. My brain always automatically calls Bertie no 6. I always forget the real no 6. Urgh!!!

It’s the lack of stand out anything about no 6. *Even dying young doesn’t leave any impression in my brain, and so I always forget him.

        Thanks for the correction. 🙂

  20. kibbles says:

Thank goodness for Harry. He is like a breath of fresh air after reading about William and Kate. I just smile whenever I see his photos. I believe his charity work and interests are truly genuine. I can’t imagine Kate spending three months in Africa unless she spent the time secluded at a five-star resort.

  21. Hannah says:

I will never understand why people find him attractive all I see is reheaded Charles.

    • mom2two says:

@Hannah, same here. I look at him and think what’s the big deal? He’d be considered an average looking guy at best if he was not a member of the royal family. To each their own, I suppose. And the older he gets, the more he looks like Charles. I guess he gets a gold star for doing what most of us do, work on our birthdays.

I will say, I am glad he’s finally acting mature and left the stupid stuff he was doing behind.

    • FLORC says:

He has his mothers charm. On looks alone I didn’t find Diana terribly pretty or Harry handsome. Add in their interactions with their charities and their devotion to their causes and a inner attraction shines through. IMO anyways.

      • frisbee says:

Totally agree, it’s his easy going charm, very like Diana but probably without the neuroses – William got those.
Either way if they have to search and rescue us off the Island I’d rather it was Harry flying the Copter, at least he’d get the tin foil hats!

      • FLORC says:

        Frisbee
But what of the Sixlets? They would crowd around Harry. He’d be engulfed in them!
I hope we’d never need rescue. It would mean the Amphibious wiglet wagon is out of commission. Although, not opposed to the idea of Harry popping by. The Sixlets can take apart the helicopter as part of a reverse engineering learning exercise.

        P.S.
Ive been tossing around a new name for the Wiglet Wagon now that it’s part boat. the Wet Wiglet already was taken and buhare might still flinch at the name. I’d love to hear ideas!

      • frisbee says:

FLORC – Harry would love it, the most appealing part of him is that he genuinely loves kid and I can see him laughing like a drain if they took his helicopter apart, h*ll he may well join in. Besides I am convinced the Sixlets are indestructible indomitables , they’ll be fine 😀

How about the Amphibious Wiglet Wigwam Wagon part boat, part wagon and part cool New Age abode we can call it AWWW! Alternatively we can totally mispronounce it and call it ‘That bloody boat/car thing that FLORC and bluhare swan around in all day wearing tiara’s.

      • notasugarhere says:

Weidling is a flat bottomed boat similar to a punt. We could call it The Wiglet Weidling, attach wheels to the bottom, and turn it into an amphibious car. This reminds me of an episode of TopGear.

If we don’t have to name it after a type of boat, I vote HMS Wiglet Wayfarer.

      • FLORC says:

        Nota/frisbee
I like where your minds are going! We need to take this up on a more trafficked thread.

        Nota That episode was awesome.

    • leah says:

I agree, he’s nothing special to look at. If he wasn’t a prince nobody would act like he’s hot.

  22. The Original Mia says:

Harry better watch it. Working after working this summer. It’s unheard of. Whatever will the Duke and Duchess of Dolittle do if he upstages them and makes people think…gasp, they should be working too?!

Happy Birthday, Harry! Your mother would be proud of the man you’ve become.

  23. elisabeth says:

Chelsy is definitively marriage material. She’s also one of the only ones who has enough character not to be influenced by KM. I truly hope this works with Harry. They would make a lovely couple!

    • Betti says:

I feel for any wife of Hazza – Waity will make sure she’s top dog in every respect.

      • pleaseicu says:

Top dog with the press? I can believe. I can believe Kate and Carole would dump all sorts of stories about Harry’s wife to the press too.

But actual royal duties? Kate would really have to step up, which I don’t think she’s willing to do. It really wouldn’t be hard for whoever Harry’s wife is to beat Kate at royal duties. All Harry’s wife would have to do is weight the hems in her skirts and make 1 appearance for 1 hour once a week and she’d already be miles ahead of Kate.

    • FLORC says:

But she’s not marriage material for Harry’s wife. She is career driven and doesn’t care to have her private life dragged out. She needs to be free to do her own thing and being the wife of the spare means every day will be a struggle to just get by. Not even including where her career would suffer. She would have to set it all aside or work half or less what she does. There’s the trade off.

Everyone loves Chelsea for all the reasons she’d never work out with Harry.

      • hmmm says:

Well, it could work if Harry gave up his title for love ;). I know, I know, it ain’t gonna happen.

      • Bridget says:

Not that career driven – she hasn’t worked as a lawyer in a while since she quit her job last year.

      • FLORC says:

        Bridget
I didn’t hear about that. Or maybe I just can’t remember. That’s too bad.

      • JulieM says:

Bridget is correct. I respected her for doing her own thing but now she’s just another unemployed party girl living off her rich family. I seem to recall her hanging out with some disc jockeys and also remember sunbathing pictures with friends not too long ago.

  24. Tessd says:

Somewhere in the dark corner at Anmer Hall, William is crying.

  25. Nina says:

“It says a lot about him that he chooses to work on his birthday, right?”

No, the vast majority of the world works on their birthday. i’m not going to fawn over him just because he is a royal and has a beard or something.

  26. Vava says:

    Happy Birthday Harry! 🙂

  27. Reece says:

Happy Birthday Harry!!! Hope you have a good one.

    KEEP THE BEARD!!!

  28. My Two Cents says:

No way would I marry into that royal family to be speculated about and judged harshly. I think he looks sloppy and unkept with the beard but to each his own. Society tends to be so very negative and hard on people today. Times are a changing and it’s not for the better with the royal family and the public. I remember back when the media was so negative about him and positive about William. I am sure they remember too.

    • Jib says:

I actually think the British people have voted him Favorite, haven’t they?? And with his work ethic, he puts his brother and SIL to shame!! If he marries a woman with 1/2 his work ethic, they will both put Wills and Kate to shame.

And I read last week that Harry can’t wait to get back to Africa and plans to spend a lot of time there. That is one way he and his wife could virtually disappear from sight of the press.

  29. Kreacher says:

Not a big Harry fan normally, but I actually love the beard. Very Bear Grylls-ish.

  30. Emily C. says:

Marrying into the British (or any) royal family has never been a prize, and most women in the position to do so have shied away if they were allowed to. Kate Middleton’s family wanted her to be queen — and, not being terribly educated or intelligent, she didn’t realize what it would entail.

Chelsea Davy is another in a long, long, LONG line of women who may enjoy the company of a prince, may even love him, but would only join the royal family with a sword at her back. Marrying a prince can be a happy ending if you’re currently stuck in an abusive household in which you are expected to do all the work and do not have any money of your own, a la Cinderella. If you have wealth, or even a competency, and are generally treated okay by the people in your life, it’s not something to aspire to.

  32. anne_000 says:

A DM article has a list of Harry’s coming work schedule, which seems like it’s going to keep him busy and which involves a lot of doing good for others.

I know apologists say that W&K can’t work because of a million reasons including woman-issues and because William is not PoW yet.

But really? Harry is never going to be PoW yet he’s working. Also, even if and when he’s a newlywed or when he has kids, I doubt he’s going to flake off like William has.
