Cate Blanchett has been all over the place this week as she promotes both Carol and Truth. I think this week was mostly about Truth, the Dan Rather/Mary Mapes story. Cate’s had a lot of new interviews, so I really haven’t been doing full-on fashion coverage of Cate’s many looks. So that’s what this post is for – the many styles of Cate Blanchett in New York this week.
Let’s start with this bright, sleeved Armani gown/dress that Cate wore to a screening of Truth this week. It’s got a great ‘70s vibe (which is on-trend) and it’s amazing to see her in something bright, because she’s been doing way too many blacks, neutrals and pale shades lately. Basically, I love everything about this. I love the color, the sleeves, the design and the way Cate looks like she really put some thought into her big hair.
Cate wore what is easily the BEST Valentino dress I’ve seen in years for this casual outing (?) in New York a few days ago. Cate’s also been trying to make those pink aviator glasses work on this trip – she’s been wearing them on and off for more than a week. I’m still undecided on the glasses (I’m generally not a fan of aviators) but I absolutely LOVE this Valentino.
And here’s Cate last night in a cool black suit. It’s classic and simple.
Here’s Cate heading to a Good Morning America interview wearing a Derek Lam shirtdress. This is maybe my least favorite look of this bunch, but even then… this isn’t bad at all.

I’ve never thought she knew how to dress herself. There’s nothing wrong with anything she’s wearing, but her clothes always pull her down. They don’t fit well, they overwhelm her small frame, they age her or look too childlike…I don’t know – she just never gets it quite right imo.
ITA. She is a stunning woman (face & body), but these clothes look like she raided a drop box for clothing.

The curly hair does nothing for her. And the glasses need to go. Not just from her face but the face of the entire planet. The rest is very Cate.
LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE her style. I HATE red and pink (never wear either) and I’d still wear all of this.
The black suit and light blue dress are nice. The glasses are ugly. The prints are unflattering.

The first dress is very Mrs Roper from Three’s Company! – which does not make me love it any less, by the way.
I think I like all of those looks. But boy, is she quite a lot thinner than earlier this year? Not that it matters, but it seems she always loses weight whenever she’s promoting something close to the awards season. At least she looks healthy, but she’s already so thin…
I appreciate that she is going for something different and loud in the red ensemble but I think the look really ages her.

The fashion is meh but she has reached this point where she can wear whatever the f- she wants and it’s fine: she’s got Streep status. I’m here to say instead that the promo of “Truth” is heavily on Cate’s shoulders: she’s going to every talk show and I barely saw the her costars. So this is clear an Oscar campaign or she must be getting extra buck for the promotion of the film. Or both, because one doesn’t exclude the other.
Saw her on Steven Colbert last night. Great interview, and Steven was adorable with his fan girling. Sweet!
I love seeing what KB is wearing. Even when it is a really avant garde look that borders on weird, she can rock it. The red Armani dress makes her look super slender. Hope she doesn’t get too thin.
I adore her, so I’m predisposed to like anything she wears. That said, that red gown is freaking gorgeous and I love the curls – just goes to show how proper styling of an outfit can make all the difference.
I think she has great style overall. She’s not cookie cutter and she always seems to wear really interesting things. Reminds me a bit of Swinton in that she’s a bit out of the box with her choices.
