Throughout this morning, the news about Lamar Odom has been all over the place. I actually believe that TMZ is trying to stay on top of the breaking news. If and when TMZ breaks something about Lamar’s condition, we will update. For now, right at this moment, they’re saying he’s in critical condition, that it does not look good, but he has not passed on. Lamar’s publicist and friend issued a statement to Us Weekly asking people to stop wildly speculating about his medical condition and to give Lamar’s family and friends some room.
We know for sure Kris Jenner and Khloe Kardashian are by Lamar’s side in the Las Vegas hospital. It’s also being reported that Rob Kardashian is on his way (or possibly already there), and that Kim is there too. The LA Lakers played Vegas last night and Kobe Bryant apparently left the game early when he heard about Lamar, and Kobe joined Kris Jenner and Khloe at the hospital. There’s a lot of different information about Lamar’s ex-wife and his kids, so I don’t want to go there. There’s also some varying information about what Lamar was taking/drinking. I feel like the people at the Love Ranch are selling their stories already. Here’s what TMZ has up now:
Lamar Odom lost it Sunday … and the trigger was an episode of “Keeping Up with the Kardashians.” Sources at Dennis Hof’s Love Ranch South tell us, Lamar seemed normal during his stay until he got a call from someone about the show. Some of the women who were around Lamar say he became irate, complaining about the way he had just been portrayed on the show.
As for what was on the show … Khloe got 2 calls from Lamar. When she got off the phone Kim criticized Khloe for being flirty with Lamar. In another clip, Lamar called Khloe to tell her that his good friend Jamie had died. When she got off the phone she worried Lamar might spin out of control. And in another scene Khloe fled a club after she heard Lamar was trying to get in.
We’re told Lamar remained upset until he was found unconscious. Up until getting the call, people at the Ranch say Lamar was “chill.” There was no evidence he had been high on drugs or alcohol. We’re told when he arrived Saturday, he ordered a single bottle of cognac and when he was found unconscious a third of the bottle was left. As we reported, people at the Ranch say Lamar had been using an herbal substitute for Viagra. Someone at the Ranch who was around Lamar tells us he was popping 8 to 10 herbal Viagras at a time. There are perils to the drug — it can cause dangerously low blood pressure and it can restrict blood flow to vital organs. Another source at the ranch says Lamar was taking the actual Viagra drug from a prescription bottle.
What I keep thinking about Lamar and Khloe’s relationship is that it just became toxic at some point. I’ve always given Khloe the benefit of the doubt on how it ended – I think she really and truly loved him and really tried to make her marriage work. I think in the end, she felt like she had to get out to protect herself. And I think losing Khloe made Lamar go even further off the rails. I don’t blame Khloe for protecting herself or for not wanting to be Lamar’s caretaker or enabler, and I don’t think other people should blame her either. She really did try and I believe she’s really and truly devastated.
Update: According to E! News, drugs were found in Lamar’s system and there’s a “likely” chance he has brain damage.

Instead, they’ve used them both for fodder for ratings, ergo money. She may care, maybe even probably does care, but I bet she still enjoys the attention, the photogs, and the money she’ll make from all of it. They all have an ulterior motive even if there is a hint of sincerity. They can’t seem to help themselves. And yes, I blame her/them to some extent. While nobody forced Lamar to do drugs or whatever he’s done, they definitely exploited him rather than keep his problems private. He was fragile and they portrayed him in a bad light and used him for their benefit. Forgive me for not being uber sensitive to the KKlan. My prayers go to Lamar. My sympathy goes to his actual family and children.
I have never seen an episode of this show, but today I saw a clip showing the wife’s reaction when he phoned her to say his best friend had died. She did seem genuinely upset by the news, but the look on her face when she saw who was ringing was not very nice. This is not really a negative about her, I know nothing about her and most of us have had to go through difficult interactions with exes, but to have that flickering look of irritation and/or contempt broadcast across the world must be incredibly difficult to deal with, especially when the call was probably made out of grief and desperation. I am sure there were many scenes of her reactions to their relationships that must have cut really deep. I hate these shows.
Hear you, QQ. Though I’m not blaming Khloe or the fam directly on this one, it’s completely inappropriate that his phone call about the death of his friend was aired. That doesn’t help matters, not in the least. Like a poster below said, he was probably desperately calling his one lifeline out of pure grief, and they exploited that. Of course they did. That doesn’t mean this is their fault, but they’re not an innocent party here. Still sending all the good vibes to Lamar and hoping he pulls out of this.
Radar is reporting that cameras were rolling the minute the Kardashians entered the hospital…….sick.
Cameras cannot ‘roll’ in the hospital due to HIPAA regulations. My dad was in a very very similar state and we were barely allowed to use our phones in the ICU, which is where Lamar likely is as well if he’s on ventilators due to collapsed lungs.

Remember he was the biggest name in the family for a while and then Kim go pissed that she was being one upped by Khloe and had to marry Kris Humphries. For a brief short moment Khloe stepped out of the shadows and had the most famous boyfriend. And then Khloe left him and that family made sure to skewer him when just a year before he was getting all of the glory. That family is evil. Trust me, Somthings is not right, what is happening to the men that goes into this family? Lemar don’t deserve all these humiliation. Whatever conversation him and his ex wife have, should be private, and why did Kloe pretend to fled the seen when she heard that Lemar was in the club, what kind of strategy were they trying to pull on the guy to let him look like a flipping stalker, Kloe was a good, nice and loving girl, but who put her up to start acting like this all of a sudden, they should show some respects for Lemar, he’s being famous for his true God given talent. Something has been bothering me the whole day about this story and I think it has something to do with this. We’ve all been in horrible relationships with people who were abusive, drug addicts, or just not nice people. So then you move on and whatever happens to them happens. OR you care about them and try to help them but can’t. There’s something very . . . . self serving about the reaction of this family to the tragedy that has befallen Odom. The poor man was in a brothel for days and who knows where he was before that. It appears the family cut him off and had moved on. Fine. . . . but then when he’s critically injured and on death’s door that’s when they “rally” around him???? What if he’d just gone on another bender but been somewhat coherent? Or called Khloe 223 times telling her he loved her? What then??? What 20 days after then??
Caring for someone who is mentally ill or a drug addict is tough. . . . it’s hard . . . it’s painful. Letting them go is all of those things as well. . . .But being somewhere in between is . . . well. . . convenient.. . . and somewhat shameless. . .

The bottom line here is that someone who is stable wouldn’t freak out like that over the tv show. That is Lamar’s weakness, and his alone.
What I’m saying is that he had many problems before his marriage, and then he cheated and messed up very publicly. He spiraled publicly. We all saw him go over the rails in his own right. He messed around on Khloe, who STILL tried to make it work with him. He wasn’t kicked to the curb just out of nowhere and then slandered. The family actually wanted him in it!

At the same time, though, if you are married to a person with substance abuse issues and you use substances around them…you aren’t being supportive.
Additionally, if you use that person’s struggles as a commodity in a product you are selling, like a tv show, you aren’t being a decent person. He’s solely responsible for his addiction issues, but she is responsible for exploiting them for an audience on TV.

Sure he has had a drug problem but it doesn’t help that the woman he loves airs fictionalized versions of their interraction on the show. I strongly urge everybody who watches that trash to read Gawkers weekly piece on the shows production. There’s not a single authentic moment on that show. If Lamar rang Khloe while she is both coincidentally being filmed and near her disapproving sister, I bet that either 1) the call is fake OR 2) she asked him to call at that precise moment. My point is Khloe needed a storyline and she has happily exploited Lamar for that purpose. A guy in his right mind would say to himself “this girl chases after me one minute then depicts me as a deranged stalker the next. She is the last thing I need right now” . But Lamar is ill. As someone who has lost a family member due to drug addiction, I can honestly say that he was on a mission to self-destruct. He may have used an episode of KUWTK as his excuse-du-jour, but I think it is extremely unfair to point the finger squarely on that. If it hadn’t been an episode of the show (which he would have chosen to watch, knowing that seeing Khloe would be painful), it would have been some other excuse.
Also, if these reports are true, how did he suddenly go from taking ‘herbal viagra’ to having hard core drugs miraculously onhand??? That “ranch” owner is trying to cover his own a$$ to avoid any legal implications in all this.
I agree about that. Drug addicts use every excuse for why they are using or binging. I don’t blame them for that. I do blame them as horrible, crass human beings who use a man’s suffering for a storyline, a man they claim to love. It turned me off from day one when they did this regarding Lamar.
Does Khloe love him? Of course she did and suffered with him far more than we will ever know. That still doesn’t excuse the crass commercialization of a man’s spiral down all for ratings.
Agree with you both. His addiction problems are his own, and he’s been out of the K family for a while now. But I fully agree they’ve used him when it suited them for their stupid, stupid show, and while they may not be the cause of his problems, they certainly contributed to it. At best they took advantage of his situation, and at worst, played into it to antagonize him for “drama”.

My ex once went on a suicidal bender because no one was taking his calls. Of course he was only calling people he knew were at work and wouldn’t have their personal phone on them…There were dozens of other people he could have called, but no, he was manufacturing a reason to do what he did. He survived, and 3 months later created another situation like that, and on and on it goes.
It wasn’t one episode that dragged him down, it was their entire relationship and his involvement with that family on any level that added to his already fragile state. You can’t use a person who has problems for your own gain and then say it’s not my fault he has problems. No, none of the kardashians put pills in his mouth or made his snort Coke, but they gave him lots of reasons to want to escape and dull his pain. They exploited what should have been private. They used what should have been protected. They made money off someone who needed trust and reliability. Every one of these statements describes a wolf preying on the vulnerable. I swear, some people need a magnifying glass to see what’s so obvious.

Maybe someone can advise… Would the tv show be allowed to just air his coversation without his consent? Or would Lamar have had to sign off beforethey could use his the recording of his voice on air?
Sam- they probably have a long-term provision in the original contract allowing them to do that without his ongoing consent. Otherwise reruns would be a problem also. They certainly do the “fake phone call” routine frequently. Look at all the biased edits and outright fakery they engaged in to smear Humphries once Kim decided to upgrade to Kanye – he certainly never wanted that, but he couldn’t do anything about it legally.,

Amy, I do believe that she had been calling Lamar for a few days and asking him about a reconciliation and asked him to meet her there so they could talk. And that is why he was so surprised to see the cameras and she started to act like she was in danger. TMZ than went on to rip him a new one when it was all on Khloe. After that happened Lamar threatened to bring down the family with everything he knew. There are two sides to this story and I do not believe that Khloe was showing much love for this man after all.
I believe she’s devastated too because she still loves him. I don’t like this family but I don’t think they are to blame. Addiction runs in his family, and he is the one who’s made bad decisions.

My sister is an alocholic and while it’s nobody’s fault how she copes or doesn’t cope, it would definitely be on us if we exploited her, made fun of her alcoholism, portrayed her as a skank, or anything else to add to her already fragile state. Why does it have to be direct in order to blame? I don’t put alcohol in my sisters mouth, but if I purposely do things to make her feel even sh!ttier about herself KNOWING she has an addiction, you really think I shouldn’t be held accountable for my part?
It is so unfair of TMZ to run this story while he is fighting for his life. I saw a clip on E where Khloe was once again getting maligned by Kim for her feelings towards Lamar. Khloe has always been his advocate even while he was at his worst. I can only imagine why the exes of these women get upset that they continually use them as storylines while they’re long gone….he’s not there to defend himself, as Reggie wasn’t, Kris Humphries, Scott won’t be and all the others. Reality tv is a curse and it finally is getting deadly for the Kardashians. Things aren’t pointing in the direction of his survival and all hell will break lose. End this show.

Poor Lamar therenwasnt must chance of this story not becoming sensationalized given where he was. Those ranch people are pond scum and I have no doubt there will be inaccurate, over-hyped stories being sold to any/all takers.
Maybe not so much. It’s a legal business in that area, a safer place than illegal ones for the employees (and therefore a desirable job comparatively), and confidentiality is probably part of what they are selling. He apparently was staying with his friend the owner and was not just a regular customer. The little bit of info available so far may be from the 911 call, which is accessible to anybody who pays for the recordings and fills out the proper forms. The rest is probably coming straight from the Kardashians.
If you truly care for someone, you don’t use their struggles a plot point for your character arch on a cheap tv show.

It’s all about the angle, the story, the sell. Love means cherishing and protecting your relationship and those you love — these horrid, greedy monsters are exactly opposite of that.

It is scripted. Even Kim had to admit that under oath. They set up scenes, I suspect that certain people are not entirely let in on the plotline (like Humphries and Kris’s ex). They’re not very good actors, even playing themselves, you can tell just from the way they talk on the show that they are playing parts. They rehearse and reshoot. And make up scenes after the fact, trying to spin things a certain way (they did that to Humphries, months after Kim filed for divorce, to pretend that while they were together she was “having doubts”; they were caught because they forgot to change clothes for the scene). They fake phone calls to and from their targets – they’ve done that to Rob and Lamar and apparently Reggie.
My bet is that the secrets Lamar was threatening to spill involved not only the scripting (which others have already revealed) but also about Khloe’s drug use. Maybe about Kris also, she certainly acts like an alcoholic at the very least.
It is 100% a scripted show with re-takes, out-takes, written dialogue, make up, craft services..the whole nine yards. You don’t need a team of “writers” for a “reality” show!

This is 100% absolutely not true. I know someone who was a writer for the show. This show is scripted, they chose when and where to film. It is NOT a documentary. They do not have all of their lives on tape and they have not given all editing power to the network.
“Reality” in regards to television means either soft scripted where they give plot points, general lines of dialogue and do retakes, or a storyline is created from existing footage, like a mosaic. In either situation, the show is NOT a reflection of reality. Reality TV is not Documentary TV.

I think it’s extremely unfair of people to try to blame Khloe or the Kardashians on this. Clearly, Lamar had emotional issues that had nothing to do with her (loss of NBA career, family issues etc). Does everyone know that you have to give consent for your name or likeness to be used? He consented to that phone call being aired. He knew the deal. If he didn’t like the stories, he has plenty of legal resources to stop it. Any number of LA lawyers would be happy to take on the K’s for the cash.

Le sigh, sometimes consent can be “in perpetuity”. For example, if he signed a contract that allowed his name and likeness to be used in Season 2 and that contract said “in perpetuity”, it might extend beyond that season. We can’t really make assumptions either way.
@le sigh we also don’t know what kind of contract he signed off on in the past so he may not be ok with being filmed now, or his likeness being used still or so on. You don’t need a release each time you are on tv if you have a contract. And trust me Kris got in there with all that paperwork a long time ago. It’s amazing how quickly the updates are being given by “sources at the hospital”. There is no privacy whatsoever for him.
I sincerely hope his children are not getting these “updates” through the media as they are apparently trying to travel there with their mother.
I personally do not think it is fair for them to continue to include him in her storyline if he is not on the show without his consent. Especially with his issues. It is not fair and it really makes me a bit irate. I have always felt that way. There was a reason they ended Khloe and Lamar and it’s because he did not want to do it anymore because he was having personal issues. So as much as I feel bad for anyone who is the partner to a person suffering from abuse, it still does not look good that her and her family use him as a dramatic element of their show.
I feel for Khloe, she does love him. I’m glad Rob will be there for Khloe as well. The rest need to go home and leave this man in peace. I’m sure Kim will only let him have the spotlight for so long. I don’t think it is fair to say the klan is guilty for his condition. However, I will say this: remember a few weeks ago when Khloe made a big deal about how terrified she was that Lamar approached her in the morning on the way to the gym? A lot of people believed her and pitied her. I thought then, as I do now, that it was a complete setup for ratings.
The last thing a woman would do if she was really so afraid of her ex would be to fly out with her family and Kamera krew to his hospital bed. I am willing to buy her being upset and sad, sure, but her going along with all the klan smells awfully like a media moment to me. Perhaps I am just a cynic….
I thought about that event, too. I just don’t see that he would know she’d be there at that time if she didn’t tell him (and the photographers) to meet her there.
She asked him to meet her. He agreed and she ambushed him with the cameras/paps. That man spiraled mostly because he loved that vampire succubus. I am just sitting here in awe at how people believe the fiction these women sell. They don’t love anyone but themselves.
I never understood that, either. I realize he has a long history of issues, but it was sad when he said his reputation was so shattered he likely could not get a job at a home improvement store.
If he recovers, I hope he will get his life on track and focus on his children, not people who place a show’s storylines above all else.

Just because she was nervous or uncomfortable about him tracking her down at the gym, does not mean that she didn’t love him. A person on drugs can be extremely unpredictable, and I have no doubt that Khloe witnessed that, firsthand, with Lamar in the past.

There isn’t really a limit on the amount of people allowed in the ICU unit. In the room, 3-4 are allowed at the same time and there’s a sitting area within the ICU unit for remaining visitors. I don’t know how every hospital runs but that’s how it was with my dad. Only family was allowed in and only visitors approved by the ‘next of kin’ were allowed in.
We had to deal with limits when my father was on life support. Twice. The hospital gave us a waiting room of our own so we could discuss our decisions away from the families of other patients. One of the factors is actual space. They need quick access to patient and equipment, which you don’t have with 6-8 people in the way.
At the end of every Narcotics Anonymous meeting, the members collectively remind themselves of the inevitable result of untreated addiction: jails, institutions, and death. They also say a silent prayer for the “still suffering addicts” that are out in the world. Let us all say a “silent prayer” for Lamar.

If Khloe had really cared about her marriage, she should’ve dropped out of her reality TV program(s) when it was clear this was making her husband uncomfortable. She has to have plenty of money, and at one point, he had a very lucrative career. Is it about the money for her or the attention? It does make one wonder if the whole marriage was just a plot line in the first place. Reality TV in general rarely seems to have positive outcomes for the participants. Too bad these programs have become such huge profit centers for their producers and networks.
It’s similar to child stars and how tough it is to think of many that have turned out halfway normal.
With reality shows, the lines between storylines and what should be private life are blurred if non-existent. I really do wonder if he realized his recent conversations would become fodder for an episode.
I seriously doubt these people are even able to separate genuine emotion from a plot line at this point, knowing every personal choice they make in life will get broadcast and monetized. If that’s not selling your soul to the devil, I don’t know what is.
I don’t blame Khloe, I do think she has genuine feelings for him and tried. But I do blame that family for how they treated him. They leaked all kinds of vicious stories about him when he and Khloe first separated, including allegations that he was a crack smoker (something I don’t think was ever substantiated). They tried to turn him into a villain during one of the most vulnerable phases of his life. And that is shameful, and they should be criticized for it.
And all those stories from “sources” had a definite female tone to them. Men and women tend to use language differently (being basically raised in different cultures) and the style differences are quite distinctive. They really sounded straight from Kris Jenner. I doubted the accuracy of them at the time because there were inconsistencies. The K Klan was just being busy trying to deflect from the embarrassing story about Lamar’s cheating. They have been so relentless that I do blame them as a real factor in his downward spiral. Not the only factor, but they exploited him for ratings and to spin stories they didn’t like about themselves. And Khloe was certainly involved in that – details had to be coming straight from her at various points, she would tell Demon Mother and then DM would concoct her little “a source says” stories.

Rob and Lamar were very close for a long time. Rob even lived with them and it was rumored Rob and Lamar still kept in touch.
If I were facing something like this, my mom would probably come with me for support. But then again, my mom hasn’t sold the souls of her whole family for money and fame, so…yeah I have to think Kris is only there for the cameras.

What I don’t understand is why the hospital would let cameras anywhere on their property. And why are all of the K’s going there? It should just be Khloe because she was married to him. Kim especially shouldn’t be there, since she apparently kept telling Khloe to not communicate with him.
People who appear to be unconscious aren’t always. My mother was in the ICU and the doctors and nurses said she couldn’t hear us, but she heard me say her favorite Psalm before they moved her and she heard when the nurses kept turning up her television after we left each time. (We kept it turned down because she didn’t like loud t.v.s.) And one of her friend’s has a son who was in a coma for 6 months and she was told the same thing – that he couldn’t hear anyone in the room. Not only did he hear everything that was said the entire time, he heard the doctors berating his mother to try to get his mother to take him off of life support; the first thing he said when he woke up was “Thank you, mom, for fighting for me!”
Moral of the story: only people who love and care for him should be in that room – not fame seeking, soul sucking, evil wretches like most of the KKlan. I pray that Lamar comes out of this fully.

His Wikipedia article says that he was cited for soliciting a prostitute as a college player in 1997. He was still a teenager at the time. Simultaneously, he was let go from his first college team after questions were raised about his academic record/ACT scores. He was suspended from the Clippers for drug violations circa 2001. It says something about his talent for basketball that he was even able to have such a strong NBA career, given those setbacks.
While I’m sure reality tv didn’t help him, the poor man had longstanding problems with drugs and emotional struggles that predated his marriage. It is really sad all around. I hope he pulls through.

I dont think is the Kardashians fault and I CANNOT STAND them! I know Lamar has had a very difficult life. His mother died when he was 12, his dad is a junkie, one of his children died of SIDS ALL before he even met Khloe. All of those things raise the risk he will fall into drugs. It was all a matter of time. Of all the relationships on the show, I think Khloe and Lamar were the most real. They genuinely seemed to love each other. Lamar basically had no one in his life that wasn’t trying to use him for money and Khloe obviously didn’t need his money. I don’t think this is a case of Scott or Bruce getting completely screwed up by the K women. I really think he had too much pain and the negative media attn coupled with his best friend dying were too much. I saw this coming and I feel bad for him and Khloe.

Is this what it would take to get the Kardashians off the air? A man ended up with brain damage due to how he was portrayed on the show. This is NOT Khloe’s fault at all–she kept quiet about her marriage problems for a long time, most likely because she didn’t want it to be a storyline on the show. Once she coudn’t keep it a secret anymore Mama Kris got her claws in and that was that, Khloe had to go along with it. Obviously Lamar’s actions are his own but watching that episode was the straw that broke the camel’s back. I for one am not interested in watching the breakdown of a man on reality TV. Khloe did not have to go along with it. She chose to go along with it. She knows exactly how her mother is and what her mother would do with any information provided.

I’ve always worried about Rob. I don’t know what his drug problems are, but I do know he is one severely depressed guy, has isolated himself for over a year from everybody. Yet they still used him on story lines on the show without him even being there. It must be so painful for his children to see all the headlines and stories still linking their critically ill father with the Kardashians. The daughter said some things at the time of the breakup (when she was about 15) that suggested she was feeling resentful about the way the Kardashians took over her dad. Not too uncommon in remarriage for the kids to have such problems, but in that case there was more truth to it. Lamar had a good career once, and it is very sad to see him reduced to “Khloe Kardashian’s ex-husband”.
And there is no reason for Kim to be at the hospital and many reasons why she shouldn’t be there. If there is one absolute dynamic in this bunch it’s that khloe is the fixer..she’s the only one who tried repeatedly to help/save her brother and reunited Lamar with his family and tried to get him to stay in rehab. He had problems long before K association, but it was clear she thought she could fix them..over and over again. She’s misguided, but I don’t think that equates to evil.I wish him well, but sadly the news didn’t surprise me.
TMZ reported that he has a 50/50 chance of survival, and that with each organ failing, the chances reduce. It doesn’t take away how disgusted I was that they began leaking a blinding amount of personal information about him during their marriage breakdown and in promoting the new season of KUWTK. It was so obvious it was coming from Pimpmomager, stuff only they know. It was horrible the stuff they were leaking, that none of us needed to know, and an awful thing to do to your husband in his darkest hour and still trying to hang on to his career. This season I saw clips of them using him for a story line again for Khloe. That whole thing with him outside her gym was them using him in his lowest state for publicity again. His own wife doing that. The guy is a mess and they use him and their brother, who is a depressed mess, to talk about and exploit for story lines.

I guess I was prescient when I canceled my Cosmo subscription yesterday after the shock wore off and I realized it wasn’t a Halloween joke that this evil family was on the cover. I just wish that this was not what I woke up to today. I am saddened and heart broken for Lamar’s family.
I once had a very lengthy surgery, was on anesthesia and completely paralyzed. For several hours I could hear every word the doctors were saying–a couple times I tried to correct them, and couldn’t make a sound. Because of this experience, I have been praying for Lamar. I believe even though his organs are dead or dying, his soul is hearing our prayers until they pull the plug and he departs the body.
