Mark Zuckerberg wants you to see his mad diaper skills, Facebook welcomes Muslims

Screen Shot 2015-12-14 at 6.46.17 AM
Mark Zuckerberg is elbow deep in diapers and telling the world. As his first baby, Facebook, is the epicenter for humble bragging, Big Zuck Daddy is posting pictures showing off his little girl, Max, on his wall. I love that illustrated map of the world in the nursery. Do you think Big Zuck Daddy points to it as he’s changing her saying, “and then I will buy you that country, and that one – oh, that one you’ll get for your sweet 16!

“It’s been less than two weeks since Mark Zuckerberg became a father, and he’s already a pro at diaper duty!

The Facebook CEO posted an adorable pic of him with little baby Max that showed him grinning from ear-to-ear with his firstborn.

“One more down, thousands to go,” the 31-year-old posted. Looks like the new dad has the right attitude!

Zuckerberg’s wife Priscilla Chan liked the family photo as did Sheryl Sandberg.”

[From E!Online]

I love the “Likes” on Big Zuck Daddy’s posts: Melinda Gates likes this. Martin Scorsese Likes this. U2 Likes this. The Sorbonne Likes this. George VI would have Liked this. Elvis came back to Like this.

Can you imagine how his future status updates will evolve? First, we had the beautifully worded statement brimming in new parent glow. Next, it should move to clipped sentences like, All that money spent going to Harvard and I still can’t get the #$%& baby formula temperature right LOL! After that it will be rambling messages posing conjectural questions about existence. Finally, it will be the cryptic call out, “Remember when you thought certain billionaires were your buddies and now they can’t take time to Like your daughter’s first poop pic? Just sayin.’” And just wait until the Mommy Mafia jumps on his post to point out what he is doing wrong.  We should be getting new status update options like, “So-and-So thinks you should Shut Up!” and fresh stickers that include a wild-eyed parent drinking coffee from the pot.

In addition to acting like every other parent on Facebook, Mark also sent support to Muslims, saying that they have safe haven at Facebook. You can read the whole article here:

“As a Jew,” he wrote, “my parents taught me that we must stand up against attacks on all communities. Even if an attack isn’t against you today, in time attacks on freedom for anyone will hurt everyone.

“If you’re a Muslim in this community, as the leader of Facebook I want you to know that you are always welcome here and that we will fight to protect your rights and create a peaceful and safe environment for you.”

[From the New York Times]

Read the whole article when you have a chance. It discusses how Mark and Facebook have sent mixed messages in the past few years. I live 75 miles outside San Bernardino and have seen the results of the current fear-mongering. I applaud reaching out, although I recognize how Facebook’s messages have been problematic. I am going to come down on Facebook’s side with this latest message; they don’t always get it right, but I think this is good.

Mark captioned the picture above “My next book for A Year of Books is Quantum Physics for Babies! Just kidding. It’s actually World Order by Henry Kissinger — about foreign relations and how we can build peaceful relationships throughout the world. This is important for creating the world we all want for our children, and that’s what I’m thinking about these days. I am loving reading to Max. Next year looks like it’s going to be A Year of Children’s Books!

He runs a successful company, donates money left and right, lives a life without crazy drama, and posts a few pics of his new daughter. I’m on board!

    • Kip says:

But does he donate money really?

So far he has set up a Limited Liability Corporation (the $45 billion “give away” recently in the news) that HE controls, which can lobby politicians (unlike a charity/non-profit), and which has very, very different tax consequences.

      • Mot says:

Having never had $45 billion at my disposal, I don’t feel I can pass judgment on whether he his way of donating is best.

I am going assume his intention is to positively impact the world I with his money and wait to see if he does that or not

      • Miss Gloss says:

        +1

      • FLORC says:

He said he’s not giving that money away immediately. It will likely start happening towards the end of everything. And I have found his donations so far to be shady. She does the old trick of donating just enough for tax purposes and mostly to foundations he has financial control in or that of his business friends that loops back to him for some financial benefits. It’s not selfless giving. It’s business transactions.

So, this 45 billion claim is only a pr statement at this point. Nothing more for those who are paying attention.

      • Angee says:

Thank you for mentioning the whole tax avoidance scam he’s a part of.

  2. Esmom says:

Lol @ Big Zuck Daddy. The baby is a little doll, that face!

  3. Catwoman says:

Welcoming Muslims is the right thing to do. Hate and fearmongering will only bring more violence and hatred toward America.

    • Sochan says:

“You hate and fear me so I’m going to commit violence against you in retaliation. I’m going to make your fears come true.” That doesn’t quite make sense, does it? Not exactly the right message when you’re trying to defend a demographic.

      • tifzlan says:

You know ISIS et al. thrives off Islamophobia? It basically feeds their propaganda machine. So what are you really trying to say?

    • Alex says:

The best recruiting tool ISIS has are people who are Islamophobic. Its right out of the Hitler playbook. It feeds into their rhetoric.
Its “hey the westerners hate you and your way of life. We don’t you should join us in our war against them?”
Then we have hateful people commit hate crimes you have people standing back and realizing they might be right. And lets not forget that we helped destroy their homes as well and destablized their countries.
Its the same with minorities here. You know how many kids I try to teach not to distrust people and to trust in authority figures? Yet they turn on the news and people like Trump and Cruz call them thugs. They see cops gunning down yet another person on camera. You think my message gets through at that point? No for some it reaffirms that is us vs them. People don’t understand how pervasive these messages are when you see it your entire life.

    • Nicolette says:

A Sharia ISIS judge has ordered that children with Down’s syndrome and other disabilities be killed. Is this the mindset of people, and I use that term loosely, that seem like they can be negotiated with? ISIS is bloodthirsty and will not stop their agenda for a worldwide caliphate. No hand holding, understanding, or kum ba yah singing will fix that. They are a formidable evil presence in the world, and have no problem being such. How can anyone deny this at this point?

      • Pedro45 says:

ISIS does not represent all of Islam. Nor does al Quada. There are more than a billion Muslims in the world, so yeah, i am going to try understanding and hand-holding, rather than fear and hate.

      • Lambda says:

        Hai Donald!

      • T.Fanty says:

What Pedro said. If ISIS represents Islam, then we have to agree that the KKK represents Christianity. And so forth.

      • Alex says:

So when are we going to deport all white christian males then? Cause you’re more likely to be shot by someone fitting that description here

      • me says:

Isis makes up 0.1% of all Muslims. There are about 2 billion Muslims in this world. Living in North America, you are more likely to be shot, raped, and murdered by a young white male than any other ethnicity/gender/age. Should we get rid of that demographic as they pose such a “high risk” then?

      • sugar says:

I’m sorry, you make too much sense to post here….

    • Bonster says:

One of the Muslims I follow on Facebook, a Canadian public intellectual who speaks out against Islamism, has had his account suspended on several occasions. Other Muslims who disagree with him, and who favor Sharia over democracy, complain about his account and his posts. After a certain number of complaints, any account can be suspended. Then the guy I follow has to make an effort to get his account back up and running.

I’ve seen posts from Palestinians on another account (belonging to a Jewish-American author who is a Palestinian sympathizer) calling Jews apes and pigs.

I believe anyone who doesn’t spread messages of hate or terrorism should be free to post on Facebook. But I’m unclear what Zuckerberg’s strategy is in making this statement.

      • Ange says:

I’ve seen abominable racism on Facebook that remains after being reported repeatedly so I’m not sure how Zuckerberg can really claim the site is welcoming.

  4. Sochan says:

This guy acts like he’s the first man to love and care for his baby. Good for him that he likes being a dad, but millions of dads all over the world are doing this and on .001% of his salary. I can’t stand any more of Zuck shoving his child (i.e. promoting himself) in my face.

    • Bettyrose says:

This is what new parents do on Facebook. You can hate the trend, but why should Zuck be held to a higher standard?

      • Sochan says:

New parents do it for their friends and family. Zuckerberg “the leader of Facebook” as he calls himself (why does he sound like he’s talking to aliens from outer space when he’s talking to Muslims?) is doing it for the whole world. Zuck is promoting himself.

      • littlemissnaughty says:

I’m with Bettyrose on this one. I don’t like how he runs Facebook (not as a boss but as someone who has a lot of power and uses it for … nothing) but this is not something that I can sh*t on him for any more than I can do it with all my baby-having friends. The ONLY difference is that more people are paying attention. Trust me, if the parents I know could get the number of baby-Likes he gets, they’d be thrilled. They do it for friends and family because that’s who their FB-friends are. They’d be doing it for the world if they could.

  5. Stephanie says:

She looks older than two weeks to me. Cutie pie.

  6. Amelie says:

There is a picture of his dog Beast jumping on his page and it is the best picture ever. He is a Puli and has those long cords of hair so since he is jumping in mid air, the cords are flying in every direction. You can barely tell it’s a dog jumping, it just looka like this huge bundle of hair caught in mid-air.

  7. Pedro45 says:

I was on board with this until I got to Henry Kissinger and “peaceful relationships around the world”. Not sure what that ancient war criminal knows about those.

  8. Bettyrose says:

So grateful my old baby pics are buried in a shoebox somewhere, not plastered over the internet, but this is the new normal. In 16 years, all these kids will be dating people who’ve seen their naked baby pics online. I guess that’s true of current 16 year olds too.

    • Esmom says:

Yup. Although I don’t think a fellow classmate seeing naked baby photos is as worrisome as all the potential creepy strangers who can see all these photos and info that people keep posting about their kids. I’m actually kind of astonished at how willing people are to compromise their kids’ privacy to elicit “likes.”

    • Wilma says:

Yeah, we decided not to put photos of our kid out there on social media. I don’t judge people who do, but I wouldn’t have liked it if all of my life would have been out there for people to see and based on how we would feel ourselves we’re leaving it up to the kid herself if she eventually wants to be on social media.

  9. tifzlan says:

    “Quantum Physics for Babies” tho…

  10. vauvert says:

You know, I used to dislike him for being cocky and arrogant but no more.
I like his parental leave policies – hope more companies follow suit.
I like his donations, I hope more billionaires follow suit.
I like the example he provides – how many male CEO’s take parental leave, showing that it is bloody okay to put your baby and wife first? The company won’t run into the ground in a few months if he is out of the office.
I like that he posts baby pics just like the rest of us.

To those who criticize him for any of the above, calling it self promotion…. Not sure I understand your point. What does he need to promote? Who exactly doesn’t use FB but will be compelled to sign up because Mark put up a photo of his daughter?

    • FLORC says:

Loads of CEO’s take parental leave if they have a new family or sick child. They just don’t advertise it like he does or people don’t care to know.

And when he starts following through on his statement of donation credit is due. As of now he only donates what he can benefot in tax breaks from or to a foundation where he or his friends benefit from the overhead. And in turn he benefits. It’s not selfless. It’s business for profit moves.

I’m a huge researcher in charities before I donate. If I can’t see where the money goes and claculate out the overhead isn’t extreme like for example Susan G Komen I won’t donate. What i’ve seen of MZ and his foundation/donation connections he is all calculated for priority of keeping the rich rich. And that’s disappointing.

      • taxi says:

He donated a huge sum (maybe 5M ?) to Newark NJ schools & is setting up a mom-child care center & pre-school near Facebook HQ for economically underprivileged kids. He also donated a lot to a high school district near FB. Are these keeping the rich rich? I’m asking because I don’t see how they could but I don’t know. I see a lot about him because he lives near me, but I’ve not researched his charities.

  11. BNA. FN says:

There are some people who always find something negative to say about any story. Can’t we just say cute baby and proud parents. What is wrong with that picture that would embarrass anyone at age six, sixty or a hundred and sixty?

    • Bettyrose says:

I’d be embarrassed if my baby pics suddenly showed up on Facebook because I’ve always had total control of my online presence. I didn’t grow up in a generation where this is the norm. But I wasn’t criticizing. This is what we humans do. Point out how much different kids today are. 🙂

  12. Miss Gloss says:

World Order? Try New World Order. He gets an enormous tax benefit setting up his money this way. Why did he file an LLC then for the foundation? Sketch. I don’t trust anyone who profits from selling our personal data.

  13. Scal says:

I’m sorry I’m distracted by that cute map print in the nursery. Does anyone know where that’s from? (I’m sure it’s way out of my price range)

    • claire says:

It’s less expensive than I was expecting. ($27) It’s called Animal World Map. It looks like it’s sold out a few places but the person that makes it has a shop on Etsy. They’e currently got this message up on their Etsy page: “ARTPAUSE will be reopening after Christmas. If you are interested in the Animal World Map as featured in the nursery of Mark Zuckerberg’s daughter, please contact me for details of where it is available.”

  14. Miss M says:

I really like his recent posts. Super baby Max Chan is so cute. Beautiful family!

  15. Sue Ellen says:

Love the swaddle! And so must baby!

  16. me says:

Well at least he changes his daughter’s diapers…not a nurse or nanny doing it. Kim and Kanye take note.

  17. Heythere! says:

I love everything about them as a parents. They look happy and like they are having the time of their lives with baby Max. Who are I to tell them how to spend their billions? I have a 3 month old at home and would love to chat with them about newborns. How funny to think we have so much in common right now! Max is a doll!!!!!!

  18. Wilma says:

He has a really cute kid! I still don’t know about the man himself, but even if he has been a jerk in the past there’s always the possibility that someone redeems themselves.

    • taxi says:

Priscilla, his wife has reportedly had a very big influence, in favorable ways. She is a pediatrician and is very aware of the importance of nutrition, mental stimulation, & parenting assistance for babies & toddlers. I hear that she has & is effectively educating MZ.

  19. Jana says:

I have to call BS on Facebook welcoming Muslims…I reported a post that was completely hate filled, talking about banning the Koran, and Facebook investigated and said it was fine…that isn’t really very “welcoming” in my book.
