Paula Abdul’s bad dog has a taste for high-end sweaters

Little dogs leave me cold. Their little yapping barks, the way they’re always underfoot. And I’m a dog person! I just love the big dogs. Any adult dog that’s under, say, 50 pounds, I just don’t understand. If you want a small animal, get a cat.

I bring this up because Paula Abdul has a very small dog – a Chihuahua named Thumbelina. Some claim that Chihuahuas make lovely pets, but their crazy high-pitched barks and bug eyes just leave me cold. I would have figured Paula for a Pomeranian or a Shih Tzu, but no. Paula saw Thumbelina’s crazy eyes and heard her yapping voice, and felt like she was looking in a mirror. Thumbelina understood Paula’s pain.

It’s real love, too. Because Thumbelina sounds like a bad dog. Paula took her into a “high-end Santa Monica pet store” and the dog started chewing on everything he could get his paws on. A source claims to Star Magazine that Thumbelina ate two sweaters – at the cost of $116.

A girl’s best friend can be her wallet’s worst enemy!

Paula Abdul bought more than she bargained for at high-end Santa Monica pet store The Wagging Tail recently. The American Idol judge brought pet chihuahua Thumbelina along as a shopping buddy. And when she wasn’t looking, the pooch got her paws — and jaws! — on the merchandise.

“She chewed on two sweaters,” says a source.

Paula had to pay $116 for the damaged duds, and Thumbelina was in the doghouse!

It took me a full five minutes of staring at that $116 figure before I realized what was going on. I kept thinking, “No way would two sweaters at an upscale Santa Monica boutique cost only $116!” Then I realized – Thumbelina ate dog sweaters. This boutique is selling $55 sweaters for dogs. How much for a muzzle? Now how much for a dog muzzle?

Most dogs love chewing on things, and it sounds like Paula at least had the decency to pay for what her dog ate. My (big) dog loves really cheap rawhide – the cheaper the better. I don’t even buy him the expensive treats anymore, I just hop down to the Dollar Store and pick up those packs of 10 bleached rawhide bones for a buck. He’s never even tried to gnaw on a sweater, thank God. And that’s why you should get a big dog.

I’ll stack my cats up against any chihuahua…no matter where I hid my angora sweaters, I’d find them in the hallway, holes chewed in them and scratched into unwearability..even brand new ones. Whatever she’s on, I want some of it.

I don’t agree with you generalizing that all chihuahua’s are yappers and make bad pets. I have two of them and they are the sweetest. Yes, they do bark on occasion when there are loud unexpected noises but I think that’s normal. Paula just hasn’t trained her dogs very well. What adult dog chews up sweaters? I would buy it if she had puppies but dogs don’t normally chew up things if they’re not teething.
