Jennifer Aniston and Justin Theroux were surprise guests at last night’s Critics Choice Awards. By that I mean that I was surprised to see them, because I forgot that Justin Theroux was finally nominated for something for The Leftovers. While Justin didn’t end up winning Best Actor in a Drama series, he and Jennifer were two of the biggest names at the event, which was sparsely attended.
Jennifer also chose this moment to debut a new look. And by “new,” I mean a look that was pretty dated and ‘90s, but it’s new for her. She’s gotten ultra-blonde highlights upfront, and she was doing something different with her makeup. The result was enough to make me quit bitching about how she never changes anything up. I was wrong! She shouldn’t change anything up, ever. Because her new look is no bueno. The blonde highlights combined with the too-dark eyes make her look like an over-the-hill biker babe.
Jennifer’s dress also didn’t do her any favors. She wore this Saint Laurent gown in a pale blue, which was actually on-trend for the night (SO MANY women wore this color). But the design? Yikes. Everyone thought she accidentally split her dress up the middle, the slit was so high. And the bust ruffle is just… bad. The whole thing is really bad. She needs a mulligan on the whole look, quite honestly. But I guess we should be happy that she tried to change it up. And I’m happy that she walked at least one carpet during this awards season – it feels like forever since we’ve seen her on a red carpet.
As for Justin… he looks quite “tight” doesn’t he? A little Botox?

Let’s leave Jolie out of this and be real. Her dress is a mess. I’ve seen her wear prettier dresses. Last night, this one wasn’t working for her. The cut is terrible. By reading the comments, most people think the same. I guess they are all “Jolie” fans.

Tina: Friends has been off the air for a decade or a bit longer. Of course she looks different, she’s almost 50 years old. She has the time and money and obviously uses it on trainers as she has a very fit and healthy body. She may have had things done to her face, but nothing outrageous like her buddy Courtney. To me, she’s the one of the “friends” that is the saddest to look at. She took that beautiful natural face and morphed it into the cat lady. You would think these ladies would learn from their peers mistakes, but I guess you never believe it will happen to you until it does.

I agree with you. Jennifer has that tight-mouth-because-I’ve-just-had-work-done-on-my-face look in the photos.
I gotta say she’s better looking that any of the Friends cast to date … her face is starting to sag … but at least she doesn’t seem to put much filler in her face that much anymore. I’ve entered my forties … ahem, by now … and it sucks that I’m having similar issues. Ladies, if you’re still kind of young, be VERY careful with fillers. Also, if you choose to have any surgical remedy to maintain tightening of your skin, check out the mini face lifts scenarios or less invasive Utlatherapy or something like that. Man o man, do I wish there was more of a breath thru scientific remedy on these procedures that wasn’t as invasive but more effective and natural looking. A an old girl can dream. But by then, I will be really an old girl. I’m pulling for all the nerds in Med school!
As well, I wish we could get insurance too…even if it would be hella expensive per month, I’d sure be down! I’m too immature to be old!

Combination of fillers in the lips and I’ll bet she also wears Invisalign braces or retainers. The fillers puff your lips just a bit, but the Invisaligners move your bite around so your mouth ends up with a weird, pursed, Carrie Fisher look.
zinjojo, what? My son wore invisaligns and his mouth looks exactly the same as it did before, his teeth are just straighter. If I had a dollar for every time the camera caught me making a weird face, I’d be rich. I’m sure celebs have the same issue.
Esmom, I guess they work differently on different people. I wore them for the past couple of years and am now down to the retainer, and they have definitely changed my bite so I have to be conscious of not holding my mouth in a pursed position. I was filmed for a recent work thing, and the video made me so aware that I was doing a Carrie Fisher mouth (without lots of fillers).
zinjojo, My son is also at the retainer stage. Hopefully they changed your bite in the way the dentist intended! I hate seeing myself on video, I always seem to look worse than I imagined I did at the time.
She looks normal when she smiles, but a little odd in these pics where she doesn’t. Between the sun and LT smoking (even if she’s now quit), pretty sure she gets fillers and/or Botox around her mouth. That must feel weird when freshly done.
I think the dress is one of the worst I’ve ever seen on a runway. Period. The slit is horrid–far too high, all puckery, and in the MIDDLE rather than at one side. Omggg. And yes the eyeliner is too harsh.
BUT there are things I think are quite good here:
1. The color is lovely on Jen–really looks nice with her eyes and hair.
2. Their body-language is sweet–like they belong together and are reveling in it.
3. I’m glad she’s let her hair grow out from that awful last cut. She’s meant to be a longhaired girl.
4. For once, Justin looks really happy and comfortable. He was wonderful on The Leftovers.
I don’t get the wholesale dissing of everything she wears, does, is. But that dress is maybe the worst I’ve seen. Looks like a chamois used to wash her car. So unfortunate!

Love the color of the dress and I think her hair looks fine but her make-up and the dress itself are bad-very unflattering. However, I think she looks younger than almost 47. Whatever she’s doing or has had done works well for her-she doesn’t look “over done” or obviously enhanced. It’s funny to me that people say she “looks old.” I don’t know anyone her age in my day to day life who looks as good as she does.

it’s so frustrating though, these people are dressed by stylists whose sole job is to make them look good, with a well cut dress that fits them well. i’d want my money back if i had to wear that dress! i also wish jen would stop tanning, her skin looks like that of someone 20 years older. she’s not naturally tan, i suspect her skin tone is actually quite fair and you can see she has huge amounts of sun damage. sigh.

I was wondering about tanning beds and self Tanner, can it stain your skin forever? She has a perma jaundiced/orange look. If she stopped wonder if she’d go back to her normal skin tone, or maybe she can’t?
Fake tan won’t permanently stain your skin, you could wipe off every trace with tan remover and be back to your natural skintone within minutes. Tanning beds can make hyper-pigmentation darker but won’t keep you permanently tan.
The makeup does look great. The dress is awful though.

A good line on the upper eyelid really opens and defines the eyes without making them look tiny and racoonish. The super-harsh eyes and super-harsh highlights are doing her no favors. It’s like bad “sons of anarchy” styling.

I think she’s been restalyn-ing her mouth for a while now. Didn’t she used to have a lockjaw underbite thing happening which gave her a distinctive way of moving her mouth. i think she had a jaw realignment. Add to that the restyline and sometimes it seems she can’t move her mouth correctly.

another thing: why can’t they ever had the hems of the dresses shortened not to drag on the floor? I’m not just talking about Jennifer but almost every actress has the same problem – they have stylists, seamstresses etc. but nobody ever cares. Is it stylish to step on your dress? Maybe I’m missing something but it’s a pet peeve of mine.

Most actresses are short. The dresses are made for tall people. If you remove as much fabric as you would have to, the whole design would be affected. Letting it drag doesn’t affect the design nearly as much.
If it’s a custom dress made especially for the actress then it will be properly tailored, but that’s an expensive undertaking. It’s not just about cutting inches off the hem, every proportion would be tweaked, the whole design may be changed. People like Nicole Kidman and Cate Blanchett usually have customized dresses for events, because they actually help sell couture, but otherwise it’s reserved for big premieres at Cannes, the Oscars etc.

Do they? Nicole is 5’11” and Cate is 5’8.5″ tall, and both have long waists and svelte, long-limbed frames. They could probably wear the majority of designer clothes right off the runway without alterations. Jennifer Aniston is (reportedly, though I think her height is fudged) 5’4.5″ tall and she insists on wearing designer clothes that don’t fit her frame and height, even in those 5″heels she likes to wear. The woman has over $100 million in the bank. The ‘expense’ of having well-tailored gowns and pantsuits are within her grasp. Other short women manage to do it, so it’s not an impossible feat.

Everything about that dress is unfortunate, her makeup is horrible, and whoever helped her put this look together should be fired and go back to school for a new career. That eye makeup is unflattering and aging and I cannot imagine wearing that sad sack… I bought a simple $200 gown for Christmas that looks way better, and once I had it shortened actually fits like a glove. How hard is it to get this right? How cheap must you be to just put on any rag given for free rather than spending a bit of your wealth to look put together? I agree about the color. It’s personal preference–I don’t like colors that have a grayish tint to them–looks dirty to me. If you’re going to go pale blue, go really pure, clear blue.

His and her botox special? They both look awfully tight, but at least it shows that men are under pressure to have that smooth look as well. I do think she went purposefully low-key because it’s his award show, and the color is nice. But I hate the dresses where I cringe when the person walks, for fear of seeing too much. the dress color was not flattering to her at all – especially with such an odd slit – her makeup was literally caked – on and her eye make up was too dark – the color being so light showed off her stomach which was unflattering as well. compare kate beckinsale who looked stunning and elegant

IMO the colour suits her! It matches her light blue eyes which may be the intention for the heavy black eyeliner. The blonde highlights look normal to me. I´ve often seen similiar styles, so it´s a non issue to me.
Too much Botox around the mouth – she obviously can’t smile. And she should never wear dark eyeliner to tightline. Like Sarah Jessica Parker (and myself). It only makes small eyes look smaller.

I think her pursed lips are b/c even she knows she looks bad. I generally think she looks good but this dress is terrible. She is of the age where she needs to wear more structured styles, not the loose, flowy dresses. Had she worn a structured dress in the same color, I think it would have been loads better. Not a fan of the eye-makeup but also not the worst that I’ve seen.

The slit and the middle seam are awful. When I first took a quick look at the dress I thought the pic was from TIFF 2013 – the strapless number that was more well-constructed and the color had some oomph. I wish someone would show JA old pictures of herself to remind her of her natural coloring; after 40, tan just looks old.

The last photo she looks like an older Meg Ryan (had Meg not completely messed her face up). The dress color is nice.. It’s the style & sizing that is so off. I wear black eyeliner, but I have huge eyes.. Her makeup has looked better. The blonde streaks wouldn’t be bad either, but looks like she just got out of bed put on makeup in bad lightening & grabbed the wrong dress off the rack. She can look stunning when she tries. This was a very off day. Plus what is w/ the crazy facial expressions (mouth & chin)?
She has an amazing body. That dress makes get look frumpy.
That middle seam is just horrible. I don’t think that dress would look good on anyone. It’s not well made.
All I could think about when I saw this dress was the reaction it would get on a Project Runway runway. The designer would get skewered for the awkward placement of the slit as well as how high it goes up, the awful ruffles, and the dreadful puckering of the seams. Yet those designers only get a day to design and sew a dress. This is (supposedly) haute couture. Or at least a haute couture designer’s ready to wear collection. Poor Yves Ste. Laurant must be rolling in his grave
I don’t like the dark eyes and highlights. I feel like if she had toned down hair and eyes.. The dress wouldn’t be so bad. I mean, it would still be bad but not SO awful. That shade of blue doesn’t compliment her spray tan.
I would love to see her with lighter makeup, no spray tan, and auburn shade of hair for a change. She really is uniquely beautiful, but this look is all wrong.
She seriously had nothing better in her closet? I swear I’ve seen her in less tragic variations of this dress over the last 15 years, she must’ve kept at least one. Justin looks good, but yes, a tad tight in the face.
She looks more like a dated soccer mom. 90s style dress and terribly heavy makeup. In some photos her eyes looked crossed… The eyeliners was a bad idea.

The slit is thirsty and the puckered seam is beyond cheap. Awful dress. And she really does look like she’s turning into Barbra Streisand (with less talent – I adore Babs!) Why do all these women think lining their eyes in thick black liner is a good look? It almost never works, including here.
I hear you on the heavy eye makeup even if I do think it works in this instance. I know SJP always has her icy blue eyes lined heavily giving her an alien beauty look. I have yellow green eyes, the color of pea soup and I used to line my eyes and do the whole smoky eye thing big time and it was striking because of the color contrast of light/dark…that said…when I turned 40 and I now have more lines around my eyes, it just doesn’t work anymore so I no longer do it. I wonder if it’s something to do with age, even bone structure, that when you reach an age where you no longer look 20-something it just looks off, harsh looking.
Your comment about the biker chic hair/makeup was funny…nevertheless I still like the hair and heavy eye makeup and I never like makeup, I’m all about Angelina Jolie’s whisper of makeup and JCrew model makeup. But it’s an award show, so you can break out the khol. The hair is intriguing, it looks good to me. The dress…I like the color, bust ruffles, material, and overall design (nice to see her wear something other than a spaghetti strap slip dress) my issue was the slit being too high and there is a puckering along that center seam. How does shiz like that happen, who is not doing his/her job to overlook those two glaring flaws?
This is a crime. With all her money and resources she looks like a hot mess. Her entire team from hairstylist, makeup artist and stylist need to be fired. The dress is the worst I have ever seen on her. The seam down the front looks like she burst out of it and she needed to do a quick repair. The makeup and hair are awful. She never knows how to do classy couture. The other Jennifers–Lawrence and Lopez know how to do it. They looked spectacular last week. She thinks she needs to look edgy next to her hipster husband.
I assume Justin is on a plane back to NY. Enough to see her for a weekend. What a strange relationship.

Yikes. The slit isn’t flattering. The weird boob ruffles are awkward. Her eyes are naturally small, so why go for the all over eyeliner?? It just makes them smaller. I could have styled her ten times better than this! Lots of unfortunate choices all wrapped into one.

The highlights look super cheap.
Not at all up to her usual standard. Not a flattering cut of dress but the color is very pretty on her. I cannot get over those atrocious cheap highlights!
That said, as far as “over the hill biker babe”, I think the highlights are more Jersey-shore.
On another note, has anybody watched Cher in Mask lately? I watched it again last weekend and marveled at how utterly beautiful she was in that movie, playing an over the hill biker babe. Gosh she was pretty.

Well he cheated with Jen so I don’t doubt he’d cheat on her. What she has on her hands is a cheater. I doubt she is truly happy and secure. I wouldn’t be, if I married a man who cheated with me on his previous s.o.

Beautiful color. I can tolerate the ruffle. Everything else is tragic considering her resources. The puckered front seam. The front slit. The heavy make up. The Y2k chunk highlights. Center part trauma.

As predicted Daily Mail shows Justin jetting out of LA. Why doesn’t JA ever go with him? They must have a rule to spend no more tha 2 days per month together.
+1 There ‘marriage’ seems more like a business ‘arrangement’, to me. I have don’t doubt they both get on well, but they don’t seem in love nor a couple.
Her makeup looks fantastic. I don’t mind the dress either, although it could have been more fitted in the waist.
I think it is the puckered and disjointed split down the middle where the seam looks like it is coming apart, that makes the dress look like a hurried home machine project.
