Stacey Dash: ‘We need to get rid of channels like BET & the BET Awards’

wenn22022393

It never fails to amuse me that Dionne from Clueless is now a “legit” political commentator. By “legit,” I mean that Fox News was amazed to find a hot African-American woman who parrots their arch right-wing nonsense, so they gave her a job. Stacey Dash is where logical discourse goes to die, especially if the subject at hand is anything having to do with gender politics, race or Pres. Obama. She was on Fox News on Wednesday morning to offer her comments on the ongoing conversation about the #OscarsSoWhite controversy and how some celebrities are talking about boycotting. Dash was so bad, she was trending on Twitter for much of Wednesday morning.

Fox News contributor Stacey Dash asserted on Wednesday that Jada Pinkett Smith was a “hypocrite” for expecting some black actors to be nominated for an Oscar while the black community was enjoying special privileges like Black History Month and the BET channel. After recently being suspended from Fox News for saying President Barack Obama did not “give a sh*t,” she was back on the network on Wednesday to respond to Smith.

“I think it’s ludicrous,” she opined. “Because we have to make up our minds. Either we want to have segregation or integration. If we don’t want segregation then we need to get rid of channels like BET and the BET Awards and the [NAACP] Image Awards, where you are only awarded if you are black.”

“So you say there should not be a BET channel?” Fox News host Steve Doocy wondered.

“No, just like there shouldn’t be a Black History Month,” Dash replied. “You know, we’re Americans. Period. That’s it.”

“Are you saying there shouldn’t be a Black History Month because there isn’t a White History Month?” Doocy pressed.

“Exactly!” Dash insisted.

According to Dash, the real problem was that Hollywood’s support of President Barack Obama had not inspired filmmakers to create more black roles.

“We’ve had a president who is black in office for the past eight years, who gets most of his funding from the liberal elite in Hollywood,” she said. “Yet, there are not very many roles for people of color. How can that be and why is it just now being addressed?”

[From Raw Story]

Bless this mess. And yes, she brought it all around to Obama, because of course she did. Oscars So White? THANKS OBAMA. Segregation? Thanks Obama. BET Image Awards? Thanks Obama!!!! And when did it become a thing for people to whine about the BET Awards? Like, are there really so many white people out there who are terribly upset because they’re not winning Image Awards or BET Awards? And do those people whining about how black people are the real racists with their history month and BET Awards realize that the BET Awards nominate and sometimes award non-black people? Just last year, Sam Smith won a BET Award for Best New Artist. Mark Ronson was up for some BET Awards last year too.

As for the crux of Dash’s argument, that black people weren’t nominated for anything because they simply weren’t good enough and thus, integration… bullsh-t.

A mind is a terrible thing to waste.

  2. RandomGirl says:

She’s just dug herself a very massive hole.

  3. AlmondJoy says:

There are no words for the FAIL of a person that Stacey Dash is. Seriously cannot believe I used to be a fan of hers.

Sidenote: LOVE BET’s response to her. “Soooooo #StaceyDash, can we get our check back… Or nah? #Remember #YouWereOnTheGame #AndWeDontMeanTheRapper”

(In case you don’t know, The Game was a BET show that she was in, and there is also a rapper named The Game)

    • RandomGirl says:

      Lol that’s a burn

      • Loopy says:

But she actually appeared when it was still on CW since it shifted to BET it has honestly been terrible, after season 3 I watched a bit of 4 but it was never the same.

      • AlmondJoy says:

Loopy, good point. But she still gets checks from both BET and Centric (another black entertainment channel) when they play the episodes she was in, as well as the Single Ladies episodes she was in. So either way, she’s benefitted from BET in the past and the present. Their channel is one of the only ones that plays her shows and made for TV movies.

    • Kitten says:

Would have appreciated the burn more if BET didn’t have to include a joke about her sexuality, but…
Still doesn’t change the fact that Stacy Dash is highly delusional and living in a fantasy world.

      • Snappyfish says:

I agree! Your fantasy world reference is spot on. I also applaud Kaiser for stating what is truly going on. Dash parrots what Fox tells her to say. When she speaks you can see there is no actual thought or individual belief behind her words. This is a ‘need a job, want to be relevant & fox has a role for me to play’ straight out of central casting situation.

Sad because I adored her in Clueless

      • AlmondJoy says:

Kitten, you’re right. BET didn’t have to include that part. I’m guessing they did it to make a point without even realizing that I would come off offensive and sexist.

      • Pinky says:

Is she a lesbian? Had no idea and it didn’t cross my mind even after reading that tweet.

Anyway, the TV show black*ish needs to take her to town and skewer the Stacey Dashalike they create for the program. I can’t wait for this to happen….

      • Kitten says:

@Pinky-I just meant the implication of *part* of the joke being “har har I don’t mean that The Game had sex with her”. I’m not trying to make it into a huge deal but if the joke was directed towards a man, there’s no way they would have felt the need to go there.

And now I’m angry with all of you for making me defend this woman on any level 😉

      • Asiyah says:

I didn’t take it as a joke on her sexuality at all. I took it as them having to explain that “The Game” is not just a rapper, it’s a show too. I don’t know how many people actually know about the show.

      • Alarmjaguar says:

Just wanted to second Pinky’s shout out for Blackish. I love that show

    • The Eternal Side-Eye says:

Yeah apparently she’s got no beef with BET when they’re the only network to let her damaged-self on TV.

    • Tw says:

      Exactly.

  4. Alex says:

Ugh when people complain about BET, Black History Month and HBCUs it tells me they know ZERO about history. These were created because WE couldn’t get music videos played, admitted into college and we have ONE month about our history…every damn day is white history month and required for me to learn. Please GTFO

Also you didn’t put the epic clap back BET posted on Twitter about asking for their check back from Dash lol

    • ab says:

ugh exactly. the worst is people who are willfully ignorant, people like stacey dash who do know that there’s a historical reason behind the formation of black colleges and television stations and black history month, but argue that we should get rid of it all now because post-racism or whatever. frustrating.

    • The Eternal Side-Eye says:

To this day you can STILL barely see blacks models in regular magazines but folks always wanna bitch about Essence.

    • Wren33 says:

As a white person, I just can’t understand. Are there white people out there who somehow think white historical figures are being ignored in history classes? Like God forbid someone put a black historical figure on a postage stamp or spend 20 minutes in one history class highlighting some relatively obscure black historical figure. Those 20 minutes will cause all those poor schoolchildren to spontaneously forget who George Washington is.

      • Milo says:

I teach high school history. We just got our new textbooks and MLK is on the cover. My kids were ecstatic that FINALLY they had a history book with an African American on it.

  5. Nancy says:

Something is wrong with this person. It seems like she has permanent brain freeze. She’s a horrible example for young girls and should disappear from the airwaves. Like Mr. Gump said stupid is as stupid does.

    • V4Real says:

I wonder how many times does her Fox co-workers just laugh at her behind her back while she sits there with a silly smile on her face thinking she’s one of them. She has become a joke and I hope no one is taking her seriously.

Now I know why she and Lisa Raye didn’t get along and she was axed from Single Ladies.

      • antipodean says:

I honestly don’t think her Fox co-workers are in any position to point fingers at any one else on their risible FAUX news station. They are paid talking heads to a man/woman/person, and wouldn’t recognise a journalistic standard if it were to bite them on their lazy rears. Sensationalism, and jingoistic watch words are their stock in trade, and how they continue to spew their interpretation of the real world, and worse find an audience, is a mystery to me. But I guess muck finds its own level.

      • Nancy says:

V4ReaL: I wouldn’t watch Fox news on a double dare. Quite sure her co-workers back her up and agree with her.

      • V4Real says:

I’m not sure if you guys understand what I mean by laughing at her. What I mean is that they are laughing that they hired this Black individual to spew ignorant words about the Black community and she’s thinking she’s one of them. But most likely they are laughing at her because they do not consider her as a part of them. She’s just a puppet hired to talk racist crap about her own race.

  6. lilacflowers says:

I was not aware that the BET awards held the same level of prestige as the Oscars.

  7. Belle says:

We are all allowed to celebrate however we want but when something is suppose to represent everyone and time and time again, one group is the only group that gets recognized it brings the entire event into question. We need to get rid of ignorant folks who are given a platform that can influence young minds with this nonsense

    • Pansy says:

Right. It would be one thing if we lived it a world that was really and truly racially inclusive. But the oscars this year (and comments by older adults I know, “jokes” still shared on social media, etc) show we’re not there yet. It would be great if one day we didn’t HAVE to have award shows for minorities for people to get the credit they deserve, but at the same time, why can’t people be proud of their heritage? I am, and I’m not a person of color, but a descendent of immigrants whose cultures have definitely influenced me!

  8. Zaytabogota says:

I can’t believe she’s 49. Still so youthful and beautiful. She shouldn’t speak in public though, it ruins her.

      • pinetree13 says:

She’s 49?!?! Wow she looks amazing! Also, does anyone else think she has the soul of a reincarnated 80 year old white man? I swear! The things she says! Just picture an 80 year old white man sitting on the porch muttering about how there shouldn’t be a BET channel.

  9. meg says:

Didn’t morgan freeman say the same thing? that there shouldn’t be a black history month? ‘there’s no jewish history month so there shouldn’t be black history month.’ when the reporter tried to explain it’s an effort to challenge racism and bring awareness morgan interrupted to say ‘in order to get rid of racism, just stop talking about it.’ that would be like a therapist telling you, ‘you’re problems will go away if you just ignore them.’ genius. that’s like not punishing a kid for being bad, ‘he’ll just stop doing it’ nope, he’ll see he can get away with it so it’ll just get worse. both stacy and morgan said there shouldn’t be a black history month because there’s no white history month-every month is white history month. white is the generic race, so it doesn’t need to be stated, it’s assumed. just like if you’re describing someone to another person, unless you specify their race, they’ll assume the person you’re talking about is white. the lack of opportunity for minorities is the issue, this is why quota systems exist. we live in a prejudiced society so whether we consciously realize it or not, we all are prejudice no matter how wrong we believe it to be. quota systems are to correct an imbalance.

    • Nilber says:

Yes, he did. He was just more eloquent in how he said it.

    • WTW says:

Well, Freeman is misguided as well. He also said Obama shouldn’t be called black, despite the fact that the president self-identifies as such. He and Dash are also wrong about cultural heritage months. There are months that recognize Jewish Americans, German Americans, Irish Americans, Italian Americans, etc., not to mention Asians, Latinos and Native Americans. This argument about blacks having a special month, while no one else does is invalid.

    • Veronica says:

When I read Freeman’s comments, the implication I got was that we should be moving toward integrating “black” history into, y’know…HISTORY. It shouldn’t be segregated into a single month when the contributions of non-whites to the human race should be just as celebrated and important as anything else. I’m not sure if Dash is necessarily stating it for the same reason.

  10. Mimz says:

Well, Isn’t she absolutely #Clueless? She should be besties with Raven, right?
I don’t usually click on her stories but it’s been everywhere since yesterday.
Oddly enough, I understand her reasoning but she should be smart enough to know it’s not valid. Yes we (in general, Black people everywhere in the world, since I’m not American), want integration but we also want to be REPRESENTED. And not only black people but people of all backgrounds. I see nobody having an issue with having Latin Grammy’s, Latin Billboard, Latin Tv (I’m lost because I don’t know the tv channels in america all that well) and etc, why would it be different for African Americans? BET, NAACP, Centric, all these awards are focusing on Black artists and entertainers, but also award white or latinos every now and then. In an ideal world, yes, we would just have “Award Shows” that would include everyone but at the point we are right now, we need to have these tv channels, these “other” award shows to represent the community and to uplift it, to show to America AND the rest of the world that African Americans are not = thugs and hoes, baby mamas and baby daddies (which is what I kind of thought for a long time). There are amazing people out there in America doing amazing work that is not yet recognized in the biggest, most prestigious award shows regularly, but it is being recognized nonetheless, in a positive way, in very important shows: BET, NAACP, Centric, and Etc.

Stacey, think before you speak from your place of privilege by being a beautiful, biracial woman who sits on the edge of black people’s real struggles in life.

      👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏 to you Mimz!

    • Meatball says:

      Amen 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾

She has a point that these things shouldn’t exist, but her arguments are BS. It is clear that POC have a long way to go to get recognition for good work and it should be obvious that at this point if we don’t celebrate ourselves no one else is going to.

  11. INeedANap says:

Mizz Dash, it doesn’t matter how much you hate yourself, your skin, and your community — you will not get the love you seek from those racists.

  12. Rice says:

But Stacey, what about those times you starred in all-black (or mostly black movies) like Mo’ Money and rap videos like “Super High” by Rick Ross, which, gasp, was featured on B.E.T. As if, Dionne.

    • Me45 says:

And don’t forget she was in Kayne’s video for “All Falls Down” too which I’m sure was on BET as well.

      • The Eternal Side-Eye says:

Well that was before she fell into the loving embrace of the ultra right wing conservative white television network. Now she’s ‘home’.

  13. Kate says:

For the most part I don’t think its what she said is the issue (except bring in Obama, that’s ridiculous), I think it’s how she said it. I don’t agree with Black History Month, but that’s because I don’t agree with only one month being dedicated to black history, it should be incorporated every month. I also don’t agree with BET Awards, but I understand the purpose. Those awards wouldn’t exist if black actors felt represented at other award ceremonies and they should be, ditto for tv shows. I still think she’s a nut job though.

    • truthSF says:

I remember Morgan Freeman mentioning in a interview how relegating our History to one month (the shortest one at that) was insulting, and I agree with him on that point.

    • The Eternal Side-Eye says:

Tbh I don’t understand those who don’t like either of those things (though I understand why). It just seems like some straight cart before the horse mentality.

Black people SHOULD be recognized all year – but they’re not.

Black talent SHOULD get equal recognition – but they don’t.

It’s the year 2016 and we still have black people achieving firsts in terms of achievements and positions, there is not going to be a TRULY equal and balanced world the way we all want for possibly another 10-20 years. I understand the desire for perfect integration and equality…but I also understand we might be a lifetime or more away from it so why focus on those things. If we took them away I promise you we’d have absolutely nothing, just like we used to have.

      • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Exactly. I wish we didn’t need black history month or women’s studies, but we do. Hopefully, someday they will just be a part of history classes, period. But they aren’t now.

      • Virgilia Coriolanus says:

        @GNAT
It honestly depends on the teacher–in my experience, they were all white. But I’ve had only two teachers in HS who went into any kind of depth into black history like that–one was my english teacher, when we were reading To Kill a Mockingbird (we spent a day on Jim Crow laws), and the other was a ginger history teacher, who was from Detroit and half of his family was black, so he spent an entire unit just on slavery……..complete with pics.

      • Luca76 says:

One thing that annoys me is very little of Black History taught in the USA is about anything other than slavery and Civil Rights. That is important of course but I wish we were taught more about African history. We really only value western culture and history and segregate teaching African, Asian, Latin, etc history as if it only started to matter once white Europeans started to encounter them.

  14. littlemissnaughty says:

STFU Dionne. She’s really a special brand of dumb. I feel like she has some serious issues with her own race/ethnicity. Like women who will be especially vicious on female victims of abuse because if they separate themselves from them, it means it can’t happen to them.

  15. lovemesseg says:

Stacey Dash I just a red herring. A distraction.

    Easy distraction.

  17. Marty says:

Between her and Katie Hopkins, my head hurts. Like I’m really going to consider diversity advice from an airhead and a bridge troll.

    • Aussie girl says:

God I couldn’t even read what Kate Hopkins wrote, just the head line was enough. Is it because Stacey is on the lighter side in skin colour that maybe she has walked through life ablivious to the real struggles of ethicity…? Please some one correct me if I’m wrong because I’ve never followed her career or been in the same situation regarding ethicity. So I will apologise right now if I’m way off. I’m getting a idea from other posts that she lives in a complete bubble, just trying to work out why.

      • Marty says:

You’re not way off Aussie Girl so no need to apologize. I think in Dash’s case it has less to do with her being mixed and more to do with her being a complete dumba**.

      • Raven says:

Being lighter skinned absolutely does not make one oblivious to ethnic struggles. In fact, it lends itself to a rather unique one that can be very very hard to navigate especially as there is very little guidance in place as compared to being monoracial.

I’m a biracial person, and growing up I didn’t want to confront being neither this nor that, belonging nowhere and getting crap from both sides (grew up in a mostly white community, you better believe I understand the struggles, and once I got to high school where there was a handful of black students, it merely became double-edged) and I just wanted it all to GO AWAY so I could just be human. I can understand where Stacey is coming from, I used to feel that way as it is all very alienating to be a mixed person surrounded by “white this” or “black that”. It is to be “post-racial” before it’s time really, and it can be a real mind-f@uck to deal with actual right-now reality.

All of this racial stuff going on now is extremely painful and confusing to me, and in ways not often articulated by the media.

      • Aussie girl says:

Raven, thank you for your personal insight. After reading your post,I don’t know how I could think a mixed race person could be oblivious. Why I can’t ever fully understand your struggle, you have enlighten me in how hard it would be to navigate and I can see how it would be a head f#@k. Thanks for your post.

      • Raven says:

I stopped being purposefully oblivious due to reality waking me the hell up (in big horrible ways) to how things actually are as opposed to doing my darnedest to believe the world was ready for our post-racial business.

This girl however… she’s still living in a mental Hollywood. I feel for her in a way, but she is sadly naive.

      • VirgiliaCoriolanus says:

Er, no. I’m gonna back up Raven on this. I look white. Like I am pale as a ghost. I don’t tan, don’t burn. But my hair is a different story…….it used to go into a triangle shaped afro, and now I have dreadlocks. Like Raven, I grew up (and still live in) a very white place. The only black people around, besides my family and two other families that we know, are students that go to the local engineering college—we get a lot of students from different countries because of this. Anyway, I live in a pretty quiet town, where people mainly get arrested for drunk driving and/or drugs. But even *I’ve* experienced micro-aggressions and racism, and I’d consider myself to be lucky as a woman and a POC.

She should understand this. But unless you are one–you just don’t understand how hurtful it is, to walk into the post office, for instance, hold a door open for an older lady, get your mail, go back to your car……and have your older sister tell you that the lady who you held the door open for did a double take at the back of your head, and made a face. Not because your hair was a hot mess…..but because it was an afro. Or having people at school ask your darker skinned twin brother if you and him are “real” brother and sister.

And it’s also hard, especially when you are really light like I am–to only be told that you will be considered black. Not mixed race, but black. And to experience it for yourself, that yea…..that’s what matters to people.

      • Aussie girl says:

VirgiliaCoriolanus I never argued with Raven…? I got a lot out of your post ( I always enjoy reading them), just not sure of the ,”er, no I’m gonna back up Raven”, thing”….?

      • Crocuta says:

Thanks for mentioning that, I wanted to ask the same question. Because I actually didn’t know who she was and just from the picture on Celebitchy’s front page I would think she was white. When reading the article and finding out she identifies as a person of color, I remembered a debate some folks had here about Lupita’s lighter skin helping her with her career. I was wondering if that could be the case here too. Thanks to people above for their explanations.

      • VirgiliaCoriolanus says:

        @Aussie girl
        I must’ve misunderstood your post…… 🙂

  18. The Eternal Side-Eye says:

Every race has a Stacey Dash, and we are all very sorry for it.

I hope one day medical science can advance enough for her to become the white woman she’s always dreamed of being.

  19. Kitten says:

Kind of unrelated but did anybody listen to the Fresh Air episode with Regina Mason where she traces her genealogical roots back to slaves? It’s incredibly fascinating if you have the time to listen.

Anyway, I cannot imagine being a black American and having my history effectively erased because of slavery. This is why things like Black History Month exists. Because historically blacks were treated as commodities to be traded, they weren’t recognized as human beings deserving of the same liberties and freedoms as the rest of us. For centuries we tried to eliminate the presence and influence of black people by hiding it or ignoring it or exterminating it through systemic means. The recognition and acknowledgement is long LONG overdue.

    • AlmondJoy says:

I haven’t, Kitten. Is it a podcast? How do I find it? As for your second paragraph, you explained it as simple as can be. How Stacey or anybody else can’t understand this is beyond me. Thanks for that.

      • Kitten says:

        Hi Almondjoy 🙂
If you go to iTunes and subscribe to NPR’s Fresh Air podcast you can find it. It just aired on MLK Day and it’s called “A Family Discovers Its Connection To An Escaped Slave”. It’s an incredibly compelling story, but (predictably) very heart-breaking.

I loved what Ms Mason said (and I’m paraphrasing) about when people tell her to “get over it” (“it” being slavery obviously), they’re basically telling her to forget who she is, to ignore her history. Her journey to discover where she came from is really poignant and moving. Don’t want to say more than that because, spoilers, but I highly recommend.

EDIT: I just wanted to add that I know there’s been similar stories told but hers is REALLY unique.

    • Luca76 says:

I was planning on listening to that one can’t wait. If you don’t have iTunes you can also stream Fresh Air from NPR.

    • Tiffany :) says:

      So true!!!!
This also has a HUGE effect on voting rights! Civil rights abuses did a really horrible thing to the documentation of black Americans (birth certificates, etc.). When states make laws saying that you MUST have specific forms like a birth certificate in order to register to vote, it prevents older black Americans from being able to register. Some counties just didn’t keep records of or document the births of black Americans. Even if they have other current government issued docs like a social security card or driver’s license, sometimes voting laws add additional hurdles that really impacts older black voters.

I remember one story of a woman who lived through terrible discrimination, who was so excited to vote for President Obama, not being allowed to because her southern county didn’t properly document her birth.

  20. blahblahblah says:

Isn’t it possible that she means that we need to constantly be honouring and respecting black history as a part of American history every single day? Because segregating it to one month means that for one month in school and on tv, we talk about this shit and the other 11 months of the year “Wait ’til February”? Like, maybe what she’s saying is that we need integration all day every day.

And is it not somewhat insane when a black woman isn’t allowed to express her views without a bunch of white people calling her out and telling her she’s stupid because she has a different perspective than they do and is daring to voice it? And is it not possible that multiple viewpoints can offer valuable insight and/or can work for different people? Do we all have to tow the party line or risk being called stupid, vapid, or just left out of the conversation? How is that inclusive?

    • Dom says:

      + 1000

    • The Eternal Side-Eye says:

In regards to your first paragraph and going with previous sentiments snd comments she’s made: nope.

In regards to your second paragraph as a black woman: she’s an idiot. I might not agree with her views but I wouldn’t mind if she and others were able to back up their opinions with some fact, data, logic or etc. in her case there’s never anything to back up her opinions, she’s just a dog whistle being used for her role as a black person espousing such conservative values and that has a long standing tradition in racism.

    • Cee says:

The same could be said about the International Women’s Day. What we honour is the struggle and loss that led to our equal rights and the lives many of us are able to live.
The same is done with african americans.

    • Raven says:

“Isn’t it possible that she means that we need to constantly be honouring and respecting black history as a part of American history every single day?”

I am sure that this is indeed what she means, but sadly, it is naive to believe that this is where we are actually at in this point in history.

I do think just writing her off as a dumb attention money whore is short sighted and needlessly hateful, rather than questioning her ideas with consideration as part of a larger dialogue.

  21. Caroline says:

She is doing this just to get paid. A tape of her talking to her friend, saying how she wasn’t getting acting gigs because of her age and she needed the money, so she “came out” as conservative and now has all these gigs. She is trolling everyone on the way to the bank.

“Ann Coulter told me there is good money to be made selling lame books to dumb rednecks,” Dash said. “Like her, I don’t believe half the crap I say. I’m an actress, give me a script and I’ll give you a performance.”

    • The Eternal Side-Eye says:

Lol, well glad she’s able to line her pockets with blood money.

I’ve also seen others claim the same thing about Donald Trump. If you’re willing to get in the public eye and trumpet damaging, ugly lies to fuel your own comforts then you might as well believe what you’re saying – because you own it now.

    • Colette says:

You realize that site is comparable to The Onion? They also posted Ann Coulter has testicular cancer. If they had audiotapes of Stacy, they would post the audio.

      • Tiffany :) says:

Collette is correct. From the website:
“The Business Standard News is a satirical site designed to parody the 24-hour news cycle. The stories are outlandish, but reality is so strange nowadays they could be true.”

  22. Kerry says:

No. Stop giving her attention. I wonder if she’s going to give back the money she got from the show on BET she one starred on called the game I wonder if she’s going to try to find a way to take back the publicity she got being on the cover of a black magazine like Jet.

White people and non black people of color have started in and show runner BET shows, won BET awards, etc.

I could also go into the reasons why things like BET and Black History Month exist but there are enough books, articles, resources, etc. for people to reference ON THEIR OWN.

  23. Cee says:

Hm, then perhaps slavery should be deleted from history books and ceased to be taught at school, right Stacy Dash?
Is everything made to be Obama’s fault?? I bet Obama went back to the future and got rid of MLTJr

  24. Miss M says:

I am just shaking my head and holding my jaw in disbelief. She is truly clueless.

  25. Pants says:

She should really just stick to movies… or fade away into oblivion, y’know, whatever.

  26. Colette says:

Roland Martin just posted about a dozen Black Magazines she has appeated on.So I guess Black magazines are acceptable to her. Also she attended. 2011 NAACP awards before she converted to Faux News.

  27. K says:

I will never understand why people have an issue with Black History Month, Women’s History or Asian History Month etc. this history is rich and important part of our country and should be taught. Now should it just be taught and not regulated to a specific month of course but unfortunately that isn’t happening so what’s the issue?

Also the BET and Image awards aren’t exclusive to one race, so not getting that. Also no award in Hollywood is valued more then the Oscars none.

    • Kitten says:

Right. It’s such an odd thing to get bent out of shape about.

I feel like people who get upset about that are the same kind of people who dismiss cultural appropriation. Like, it’s that same mentality of not wanting to be excluded from something or being told that something is off-limits. Really, it stems from arrogance, self-centeredness, and plain old insecurity IMO.

    • word says:

Wait there’s an Asian History Month? Never heard of that and I’m Asian !

    • Tiffany :) says:

I agree. And…I like learning about experiences and perspectives that are different from mine! Naval gazing is so overrated.

  28. TheOtherViv says:

Thanks for a perfect headline, Kaiser!
Stacey Dash: ” We need to get rid of …..!.”
Me (thinking): ” We need to get rid of Stacey Dash….”

So so much prettiness and so little sense.

  29. Mellie says:

People need to celebrate their heritage, that’s what these special emphasis months are for. I work for the government and we have special programs for Disability Month, Women’s History Month, Asian Pacific Islander Month, Hispanic Heritage Month AND Black History Month. People of all walks should be able to celebrate and cherish their heritage, teach the rest of us about their history and make us all aware that there is more to them than a ethnic label. It is what makes America special, you can’t just do that everywhere else in the world! At the end of it all though, I am getting sick of hearing rich people (of all ethnicities) whine about the Oscars. I just can’t feel sorry for people who do what they love every single day and get paid big bucks for it. I feel way more empathy for the people who are truly oppressed, the woman who makes less than her male counterparts all while doing the same job, the black man who is automatically labeled as a gang member because he is a young black man, the Hispanic who everyone believes is the gardener, the lists goes on and on an on… Those are the people that need to be raised up, this lady has no clue, she’s not very deep!

    • me says:

Yesss ! Great comment. How about the situation in Flint, Michigan get all this attention instead? What’s happening there is scary and it can happen anywhere. Why are people having to donate water to this city with their OWN money when the American Government gladly spends billions on war? The government is failing the people of Flint and I’m so happy there is a class action law suit happening. I hope the people of Flint sue the hell out of the American government !

      • cr says:

It’s not the American government that’s the problem in Flint, it’s the administration of Michigan’s governor, Rick Snyder

      • me says:

        @ cr

Yes I’m aware the governor was the one who made the stupid decision two years ago to switch Flint’s water source. What I’m saying is now that they know there is a problem (a problem people complained about for 2 years) why isn’t the U.S. government doing more about it? It is the government who will get sued for this. Plus the governor is a government employee.

  30. Josefina says:

She’s a very pretty woman and has a great body. Good to look at, but not to listen to.

  31. Jayna says:

No, Stacey. We need to get rid of a channel like Faux News.

    • word says:

Well no, republicans have a right to their own freedom of speech as the rest of us do. We can’t censor one group but allow only those we agree with to have a voice. That’s not how freedom of speech works, no matter how effing dumb their words are lol.

      • Kitten says:

I’d have WAY less of a problem with Fox News if they presented their “news” as what it really is, which is one-sided entertainment that caters to a very specific segment of the population: white, conservative, and religious.

So while I don’t have an issue with conservatives having their own channel, what I have an issue with is conservatives having a channel that essentially runs propaganda 24/7 under the guise of “news” to the point where there tagline is actually “fair and balanced” (lmao).

      • word says:

        @ Kitten

True, but we all know what Fox News is about. It’s not a well kept secret or anything.

  32. Kelly says:

    I don’t disagree with her

  33. Tarla says:

I agree that there should be not BET. Its hypocritical how many people are pointing fingers at the Oscars not including blacks all the time but why is it okay to have a award shows aimed at blacks only? I don’t get it and its more racist then the Oscars. I don’r recall too many whites, asians, hispanics, indian being nominated for a BET either.

  34. Kristin says:

She wants to get rid of a Black History Month because there’s no official White History Month?? Maybe someone should inform her that the other 11 months of the year ARE White History Months.

  35. wreaths says:

holy effin eff, my eleven year old students have a more intelligent and nuanced understanding of racism than this lady. where on earth do they even find these morons?

  36. Tiffany says:

Has anyone read her follow up about how BET is lying to people. You got to appreciate the irony.

Did she get turn down for work from them or something because she is coming at them hard.
