Page Six: Kanye West is ‘the most difficult artist to deal with in the business’

Here are some photos of Kanye West looking happy (ish) yesterday at LAX. These photos were taken following his Twitter rant at/to Wiz Khalifa, and the look on Kanye’s face seems to indicate that he thinks he “won.” If his aim was to make people aware of his new album, WAVES (not SWISH), then sure, he probably won. If his aim was to make people aware of the fact that Kanye is still a tantrum-prone child, then he succeeded there as well. Following his latest hissy fit, Page Six did an exclusive about how the people at Def Jam (Kanye’s label) are not pleased with him at all.

Kanye West is in full-on “[I’m] the greatest artist of all time” mode, and not even his label bosses at Def Jam can control him.

“Kanye drives Def Jam more off the wall than any other artist drives anyone at any other label off the wall. He tortures them!” says an industry insider.

Case in point: “On his last album, ‘Yeezus,’ he yelled at them and told them they’re incompetent and should be fired. He’s the most difficult artist to deal with in the business.” But the source adds, “He can be as big of an a - - hole as he wants, because even on his worst day, he still makes better hip-hop records than most.”

But our source, who has heard tracks from “Waves,” tells us West shouldn’t be so cocky: “It’s not the greatest album ever made. The people he’s getting feedback from are not the same as when he’d go to Jay Z to get feedback. Now, it’s from Kris Jenner. The stuff he’s done lately is dumbed down because of the Kardashians, but he’s still brilliant.”

A more friendly West insider insists: “ ‘Waves’ is that classic Kanye sound. The idea that his music has been dumbed down because of bouncing it off the Kardashians is nonsense. The core group that have been around him since the beginning has remained the same. The album is the return of the old Kanye.”

[From Page Six]

Well, as I know from his Twitter rant, WAVES is a gospel album. That’s what he said! I personally thought Yeezus was a decent album and I disagree with the idea that Kanye’s sound is dumbed-down post-Kardashian. If anything, his sound has gotten more complicated and less radio-friendly. But I don’t doubt that Kanye is a total pill to deal with professionally, nor do I doubt that people at Def Jam are pissed off. The one thing that bugs me? When people blame the women in Kanye’s life for his own drama. Like, if you think Kanye’s a douchebag, then just believe that he’s a douchebag. He’s not a d-bag because of Kim or Kris Jenner or Beyonce. He’s a grown-ass man. Let him own his sh-t.

Kanye West is a difficult douchebag. Is this *actually* news?

  2. Lama Bean says:

In other news, water is wet.

    • Fee says:

      Lol, good one.
Greatest artist? Have people forgotten what true artistry is? Sorry but swearing, bitxhing, insulting n being materialistic has nothing to do with being an artist. Tupac was an artist, let’s not confuse the two

  3. Leah says:

” If anything, his sound has gotten more complicated and less radio-friendly.”

Not really. 808 and heartbreak was his least radio friendly.

  4. Dani says:

That’s a surprise, said no one, ever.

  5. Bridget says:

    Surely you jest.

  6. kri says:

Good job, Page Six. Way to be ahead of the news!

  7. Jaded says:

Twitter rants….the new mode of mature, adult communication.
*Sighs and reaches for Bailey’s to put in coffee*

  8. Mia V. says:

As much as I dislike the Kardashians, I never heard someone saying they are difficult to work with, I read many people saying Kim is actually a good professional and on the show you can see they “work” hard. So if Kanye is unprofessional, it’s not someone else’s fault.

    • Digital Unicorn says:

I’ve read stories that Kim has become a nightmare to work with – her ego went into space when she married Kanye. The others all seem to have professional reps but I don’t really know to much about them.

Re Kim: whenever I see her I always think of Paris Hilton and how Kim started out as her assistant. She certainly ran down the trail that Paris blazed.

      • ciera says:

My brother was a crew member on a particular shoot (can’t disclose the nature of the shoot), and he said Kylie was probably one of the worst, most demanding and obnoxious celebs AND human beings he was ever involved with.
He said she was over 40 min late, and the shoot was close to being canceled until–the devil’s side piece herself–Pimp momma Kris–called the shoot supervisor and talked her into waiting a little while longer. He thinks money was offered, but admits he has no proof.
Once “Vylie” finally arrived to the location, he said she showed up with a loud, equally obnoxious posse of hangers-on, and they started demanding food and alcohol (many looked under 21 so they were cheerfully denied without I.D.). They left the port-a – potties there in a disgusting state (don’t ask), and were generally rude and disrespectful to the whole crew.
Not surprisingly, my brother said she was glued to her phone the whole time and got into a couple loud arguments with Tyga (she said his name, it really was him). She was 17 at the time, btw .He also said she had a lot of trouble paying attention and following directions, and seemed very “sedated” and sleepy for half the time she was there, then oddly seemed to perk up and act kind of speedy for the later part of the day. A few crew members at the shoot said they saw her take pills a few times, but he didn’t witness this and who knows, they could have been Tylenol. Suuure….Tylenol. The only other interesting thing he told me was that she was seriously not smart, and had a lot of trouble with basic vocabulary. My brother said everyone had to really “dumb down” their interactions with her, and at times it was like interacting with a young child. I guess Pimp Momma Kris did show up at the end of the shoot, but he said she was mostly on her phone and he didn’t personally interact with her.
None of this was really news to me, but I did lmao when my brother said her lips were insanely, cartoonishly large at the time, and this was back when she was denying getting any fillers. He said they were so bad that photo shop was used many times for the final product.
The shoot supervisor ultimately refused to work with Kylie again. My brother said that she does have a really bad reputation in Hollywood in terms of being difficult and rude, and more and more people in the industry are either reluctant or refusing to work with her, no matter how much PMK begs or bribes–so on the bright side at least there’s that!

      • Mia V. says:

@Digital Unicorn those stories I read were pre-Kanye, a.k.a. “when Kim was just basic”.
@ciera I recently saw an episode where Kim schools Kylie about being professional and although she doesn’t said “you are an unprofessional person and entitled brat”, she insinuated.

  9. FingerBinger says:

Yeezus was an awful cd. There were 2 maybe 3 decent songs on it. The rest of it was garbage

    • Lizzie McGuire says:

Oh yeah, Yeezus was awful. I was embarrassed for him because it definitely had one good song there. The music video he did with Kim yeah that was bad too.

    • Tiffany :) says:

I agree. I think his music is going downhill. Sometimes he used to drop a line that would be so insightful…anymore it just seems like clichés strung together.

    • franny says:

I disagree. Yeezus is one of my favorite Kanye albums. So dark and industrial. Loved the Manson vibe to it as well.

  10. mkyarwood says:

Dear Kanye’s Mama, reach back from the grave and tap that boy upside his swelled head. I know you raised him to believe he’s ‘the best’, but this is getting ridiculous.

  11. Hotpockets says:

I’m sad there is no commentary on Amber Rose’s tweet to Kanye about how he is just sad because she isn’t around anymore to play with his a$$****. On a new track he supposedly dissed Amber by saying how he had her when she looked her best, but how she doesn’t look good anymore.

    • FingerBinger says:

Kanye West is married to the most beautiful woman in the world. It’s interesting that cares how Amber Rose looks.

      • QQ says:

someone on Twitter correctly stated that what burns Ye’ about Amber is that she didn’t need him to continue to thrive, she didn’t conform to his nonsense and walked out when she was good and ready

The Commentary about Amber’s tweets is this: She came to finish what HE started and included her child with, I don’t for a second believe this was about sex shaming him or something he enjoys But in his Hypermasculine masculinitysofragile Circle THAT act might be seen as bad, also a neat reminder that she knows where all the bodies are buried and still has the receipts

      • KB says:

That’s interesting QQ, it explains why he can’t seem to let it go and leave Amber alone. He’s always the one instigating the back and forth, she doesn’t start it ever.

      • Tifygodess24 says:

@QQ your comment is spot on!! It’s disgusting how he keeps coming for Amber and to bring her child into it is even worse. And what she said was spot on and she accomplished what she set out for. She’s not a stupid woman by any means. People don’t give Amber enough credit. Kanye needs to wake up. Kim isn’t any better than Amber, no matter how much he tries to make it so. Not to mention who runs their mouth like that when they have a closet full of dirty themselves?!

      • saras says:

Uhhh maybe Kim was really pretty up until face#3 but its not been great unless you like aliens or blow up dolls. He always comes for Amber but he went after her baby boy this time. Mama bear clapped back in an epic way! GO AMBER! DRAG HIM HARD! LOL

      • Bridget says:

@QQ: I’ve also always thought that part of his shade of Amber is because of Kim. No matter what he says or how he dresses her up, he’s married to a tacky reality star with a sex tape. No one thinks she’s a catch, no one thinks he upgraded, no matter how much Kanye disparages the woman he was with before (Amber).

      • FingerBinger says:

Uhhh I was being sarcastic. I didn’t think I had to say was I being sarcastic but I see it went over a few heads.

      • Bridget says:

@FingerBinger: WE’RE ALL JUST JEALOUS THAT YEEZY IS WITH THE MOST BEAUTIFUL WOMAN IN THE WORLD AND THE WAY SHE INSPIRES HIS ARTISTIC GENIUS #nodisrespecttobenaffleck

      • KB says:

lol I think everyone knew you were kidding about Kim FingerBinger, but since Kanye does keep going after Amber, you can’t help but ask “why?”

      • FingerBinger says:

@KB You’re right. I don’t know when people are kidding here. Everybody takes things so seriously.

    • Lama Bean says:

Kaiser only has a link to it in the Yeezy vs Wiz post, because it was so vulgar.

      • Hotpockets says:

Sorry Ya’ll, I missed the link referencing her comeback and while yes, it was vulgar…it was amazing! I can’t believe Kanye said he owned their kid, what kind of person even says that, let alone posting it on social media. That is some epic delusion and narcissism. I agree QQ, Amber didn’t play by Kanye’s rules, nor did she have to and he is so bitter about it. I love how he tries to demean her as just a stripper , but he dated her and paraded her around for a solid couple years, so obviously she meant a lot more to him than what he will let on. Kanye, don’t forget you married a woman who has a public $ex tape and you’re her THIRD husband.

    • Bridget says:

There’s an entire post about Kanye’s Twitter rant, and that includes Amber’s response.

    • Denise says:

Oh Kanye, Amber looks exactly the same. Unlike your swollen, plastic-faced wife.

  12. wow says:

I bope there comes a time that people who are assholes suffer real consequences for their behaviour instead of being coddled and rewarded for it.

As for women being blamed for men’s behaviour and performances, I agree, it needs to stop as well. I see that happen a lot in sports where if an athlete or the team he”s on loses or doesnt perform well, the wife or the current girlfriend gets the blame for it as if SHE’S the one out on the field or court playing. It’s crazy.

  13. JustJen says:

And the sky is blue, water is wet, grass is green…

  14. taxi says:

He behaves like a bratty toddler. How does Kim wrap her head around this? Maybe she plays the mommy role.

    • Boston Green Eyes says:

About how much time do you honestly think they spend together? Not counting the photo ops, that is….

    • AntiSocialButterfly says:

By George, I think you’ve got it.

    • KB says:

She has lived with her mom for years, I always assumed he didn’t spend much time actually being a husband. I think it’s a mutually beneficial arrangement. He gets to claim her as his trophy, and she gets to be married to a legitimate star and accomplished musician.

  15. swak says:

‘But the source adds, “He can be as big of an a - - hole as he wants, because even on his worst day, he still makes better hip-hop records than most.”’ There is NO reason in the world to be an a–hole. Just remember Kanye – the bigger (they think) they are, the bigger the fall.

    • KB says:

      Pride comes before the fall!

    • Lizzie McGuire says:

I just remembered the video where Jay Z takes the train & he’s super humble & nice to an old lady who had no idea who he was. You’ll never see that from Kanye ever. People blame the Kardashians for who he is, they’re not to blame at least not entirely. They make him think he’s God & everyone should bow down to him, but he was like that before he just didn’t had a family of lunatics to follow his antics.

  16. Esther says:

of course but i still think Page Six made this particular story up after his tweets.

  17. SusanneToo says:

    Difficult? You’re kidding, right?

  18. Paisley says:

Certainly the term “artist” is used loosely.

  19. Pansy says:

A gospel album?! People are kinda pissed he calls himself Yeezus and poses in photos a Jesus and he’s recording a gospel album?!

  20. Drs. Fixxie says:

i dont believe THIS for a minute?
    Yeezus?
    Never🐸☕️

  21. L says:

I think deep down he’s an insecure person, and that’s why he’s difficult. He’s never sure if what he’s doing is exactly right, but if he makes a fuss about it, the people around him react and then he think, “Yeah! It is right!”

  22. Jay (the Canadian one) says:

The thing that I wish he would get through his head is if you were really the greatest artist in the world, people would realise it without you having to point it out.

  23. Angelica says:

Page Six, I’ma let you finish but…

But seriously, torture? I don’t consider that torture but if someone as toddler-like as Kanye told me I should be fired I’d fire myself. I don’t understand why he gets away with so much crap. His music is lacking, his clothes are god-awful, and he obviously needs more to do in his personal life if he’s having Twitter fights. He’s cuckoo bananas and anyone who panders to his tantrums is too…

  24. SMH says:

Pride goeth before a fall Mr West. You just keep adding to the # of folks who will smile when you finally get your comeuppance.

  25. Ally8 says:

    Those are not tight pants.

  26. yep says:

Kanye doesnt “own” his shit. Ever.
    Neither does his wife.
They re write history and heaven help you if you call them out on it.
They will over talk you with nonsense until its useless to continue on your end, and they feel like they won.

  27. iheartgossip says:

I have a small issue with Page Six, and this entire publication / newspaper. For every negative article published, they add 4 articles praising this ‘bunch’. Pick a side.

  28. Armenthrowup says:

Can someone please explain to me why this man is considered a ‘brilliant’ musician? Everything I’ve heard of his is utter, utter drivel. Misogynistic and conceited bollocks over someone’s else actual music most oif the time. Twat.

    • Aren says:

Because he sells himself as brilliant.
There’s a musician I can’t stand who is considered a genius, won’t say the same because I would get lynched. Anyway, he sold himself as “rare”, “prodigy”, “different”, “extraordinaire”, his lyrics were about how he was so unique that he didn’t belong to this world. In reality, he just copied and worked with very good musicians, but he was mediocre at best.

Everybody bought what he sold, same was with Kanye. Just see his clothes line, people don’t question him anymore, they just accept he is superior. He’s selling expensive pantyhose-suits for heavens sake! But he’s getting away with it, due to his image.

  29. Sarita Chiquita says:

Has anyone else caught on that “swish” is a term that relates back to gay culture/effeminate behavior? Maybe someone told Kanye and that’s why he changed the name of the album to WAVES?
