Sarah Palin had a word-salad meltdown on ‘Today’ when asked about her son

wenn22190872

It warmed my heart a few weeks ago when commenters took Sarah Palin to task for being a lying, craven, word-salad-barfing, malfunctioning FemBot. You see, Palin endorsed Donald Trump, which was epic and stupid in and of itself, but then within the very same newscycle, we learned that Palin’s oldest son Track had been arrested at the Palin home in Wasilla after he assaulted his girlfriend and threatened her and himself with an automatic weapon. After Palin’s endorsement, she stayed silent for a day and then she gave a long-winded and word-salady speech about how Track maybe has PTSD from a combat mission in Iraq back in 2008 and how the whole thing is Pres. Obama’s fault. Frankly, I found the whole thing really distasteful. I was glad that other people saw through her nonsense as well.

Well, Palin sat down this morning for her first real interview since all of that went down. She spoke to Today’s Matt and Savannah and the first part of the interview is just about Trump, Iowa Caucus crap, Palin taking credit for Ted Cruz’s Senate win, blah blah blah. A particularly funny moment is when Palin talks about whether Trump is churchy enough for the GOP. But the whole thing goes off the rails (even more off the rails, I should say) around the 3-minute mark, which is when Savannah asks Palin about her son’s arrest and her subsequent blaming of Pres. Obama for Track’s PTSD.

Ha, so how does Palin deal with that question? “I never said that. I never said that.” Then Palin just melts down and it’s amazing. This is what she said, in case you can’t watch the video:

“You guys brought me to talk about Iowa politics and the caucus tonight, not to talk about my kids — and that was a promise. But as things go in the world of media, you guys don’t always keep your promises, evidently. I never blamed President Obama. What I have blamed President Obama in doing, though, is this level of disrespect for the United States military that is made manifest in gutting budgets and not trying to beef it up and let our military do the job that they are trained to do. And in specific issues that we’re talking about that are so hot today — specifically, let’s get there and let’s utterly destroy ISIS as we know our United States military can do, yet we have a commander-in-chief who seems to kind of want to kowtow and allow the enemy to be poking at us — and that’s unacceptable to most Americans, certainly to me.”

“I don’t regret any comment that I made, because I didn’t lay PTSD at the foot of the president. I did say, though, that there is — and suggested very adamantly that there is much more that our commander-in-chief can do to prove that he respects our troops and will let them do their job. But no, if you guys have a specific quote — it allows the media to be more credible if you guys will tell me exactly what you’re talking about, and then I can address the specifics.”

[Via Raw Story]

“THAT WAS A PROMISE!” She’s so juvenile. Matt Lauer promised, you guys. He promised he wouldn’t ask her about a public statement she made heavily implying her son has PTSD because of Pres. Obama. And seriously, it was heavily implied, go back and read her original statement here. I know Palin didn’t write that statement, but did she read it? Doubtful. Anyway, her whole meltdown is pretty terrifying/hilarious/sad.

She sounds like a Malfunctioning robot

    • Hawkeye says:

Is there anyone else here who thinks she also has an alcohol or drug problem? She always looks soused to me.

      • gwen says:

        Yes…I think she favors pills..

      • Heather says:

I think she’s bi-polar and this is her manic phase.

      • Kitten says:

I’ll just leave it at this: Alaska has a pretty big meth problem.

      • Priya says:

Meth. It has to be meth.

      • Miss Melissa says:

        Yes.

      • Jib says:

Yup. I don’t think she had a problem when she was running for VP (and God!! How terrifying is it that she came within a few percentage points of being VP of our country?!?!?!?!) but I think she does now. I think she’s high a lot.

      • GreenieWeenie says:

I think she’s just profoundly stupid. Like she’s barely literate, she barely scraped through a college education, and she happened to find herself tripping onto a national stage. She’s minimally competent in whatever she does, and she’s so clueless about actual issues that she has no choice but to opine from the position of political theatre. She never has anything to contribute, so she always has to fall back on her “I’m a victim. We’re victims. We’re ALL victims” position.

      • Breakfast Margaritas says:

She’s lost a lot of weight to the point of almost being skeletal. She was never fat but she had some softness to her features. I do think she has a problem. I hope it’s not meth.

      • SomethingNice says:

        Kitten
Alaska also has the highest rate of satisfaction among citizens only 2nd to Hawaii. Which also has a meth issue. Coincidence?

        BM
If it was meth we would see changes in her face by now. She’s been really thin for a long time now. And meth works really fast at ruining your facial tissue and muscles.

      • Trillion says:

Meth does give one a sense of satisfaction, I guess. They don’t call it high for nothing.

    • Melly says:

I think malfunctioning tea party fem-bot is her usual interview style

      • joan says:

She’s lost her looks a bit, partly because she looks so scrawny.

The rest is poor fashion choices.

      • Citresse says:

        joan
I think it’s the glasses. She’s gone for a more matronly frame. I think she leaves the set and other media to revert back to the younger, trendy looks but secretly knows if Trump wins she’ll be picked for DC so she doesn’t want any more screw ups with regard to being considered a lightweight especially a cerebral lightweight as was proven in 08. She is trying to appeal to younger voters too who don’t have much of an attention span to fully research her history (unfortunately).

    • Birdix says:

A malfunctioning robot set to Trump mode, where you angrily insult every one else as a way to get ahead and mask your own buffoonery.

    • Citresse says:

I just had the chance to listen to her voice. If you didn’t know who she was and especially her age, you would swear it was year 1982 and she’s a 16 year old “valley girl, she’s a valley girl.”

      • Cricket says:

When I first saw this, I thought it was Tina Fey in an SNL spoof…. what happened to her face? Did she get some work done on the Donald’s dime?

      • Citresse says:

She needs some Trump dime to reverse/fix the bad brow lift. You can see the 24/7 “wow, surprise!!” look (brow) above the new matronly style glasses. I think she’s now going for the matronly MILF white trash look as opposed to the basic MILF white trash look of 08.

  2. AJ says:

“My son is traumatized because President Obama doesn’t respect him enough to send him back into combat to destroy ISIS,” is what she is (stupidly) saying. I wonder if she realizes that or if she just spews the first words that pop to mind?

    • Esmom says:

You’re exactly right. And I’m pretty sure she just spews.

    • dana says:

that is exactly what she just said. yikes.

      • Wentworth Miller says:

I thought soldiers came out ands said that Track never saw combat. If thats true then what PTSD was he suffering when he went on his tirade?
So that living in the land of delusion is a family thing I see.

      • Kori says:

Track was basically a chauffeur for VIPs I believe. That’s pretty far away from combat but who is to say what he saw there? But his bad behavior (including drunken exploits) predates any military experience.

      • TotallyBiased says:

I have so much dislike for all of the Palins, but as a two-time OIF vet I have to speak up about Track’s tour in Iraq. A little research shows he was first a driver and then top (overhead) security on a Stryker, and his unit was based in Baquouba. His platoon as detached to provide security for Provincial Reconstruction Teams and Brigade officers, which morphed (as things do) into ‘Track chauffeured officers.’ I was there in 2008, and Baquouba was a real hot spot. The Strykers in general saw a lot of action, and just providing security is a stressful and freq hazardous obligation.

    • Gina says:

      Absolutely terrifying…

    • Isabelle says:

She really that smart too figure it out.

    • Veronica says:

Some people are deluded enough to believe America’s army is unstoppable and if you throw enough men and weapons at the problem, we’ll “win.” This is how we know that humans learn nothing from history, i.e. Vietnam.

    • Sabrine says:

Back into combat? Interesting since he never saw one moment of combat the first time. She is SUCH a liar. Trump isn’t so smart after all if he has her as his sidekick. She will bring him down with her mouth just like she did McCain.

  3. Sam says:

Only in Sarah’s world could showing some serious restrain when it comes to military be construed as disrespect. Nobody in the actual service doubts that a ground war against ISIS would be brutal and lead to a lot of deaths. Maybe Obama doesn’t want to send people to their deaths unless, you know, it’s actually needed. Maybe he’s exhausting every other road before he considers that? In her mind, refusing to send troops to probable death against a vicious, depraved enemy is disrespectful to them? Wow, I learn something every day.

    • Tiffany :) says:

It is amazing that she always ignores the fact that the congressional GOP members consistently work to DEFUND services and medical treatment for Vets. She wags her finger at the President, yet HER OWN PARTY is responsible for services not being available to our veterans.

It boggles my mind how some can be so “pro-troops” when it comes to sending them to war, but so anti-troops when it comes to taking care of them once they get back. Talk about misguided priorities.

      • Kitten says:

        Exactly! She is completely batsh!t.

      • mayamae says:

I watched an interview of an Iowan in a café. He went on at length that he supports Trump because Trump truly cares about the military. Trump is going to make this country strong again (unlike the current weak POTUS). Guess he didn’t hear the remarks about McCain.

      • doofus says:

“It boggles my mind how some can be so “pro-troops” when it comes to sending them to war, but so anti-troops when it comes to taking care of them once they get back.”

goes right along with their “pro-life” stance. they’re only pro-life until the baby comes out…then F*CK that slutty mother and her born out-of-wedlock bastard child…how dare they ask for a gubmint handout or any kind of assistance in raising the child healthy and educated?!

        spoiler: they’re pro-BIRTH, not pro-life.

      • ol cranky says:

@mayame the worst part of that is that Trump was contacted by a NJ based vets group asking for a donation/support over a year ago. It took Trump a year to reply and the reply came from his campaign (which was not contacted) who just sent them a bumper sticker. Trump still hasn’t announced which vets groups will benefit from all that money donated to Trump’s own charity

      • ToxicShockAvenger says:

That’s because it’s easier to slap a ribbon magnet on your car and rah-rah at the 4th of July beer blast, than to explain to your campaign donors why their tax breaks disappeared to fund health care for vets they don’t know or care about.

Everyone loves the troops when it’s free. The cheering section shrinks when actual sacrifice comes into play.

      • Jib says:

Military industrial complex. The senators, congressmen, etc, get themselves and their friends rich with war, but don’t want to pay taxes on that money, so they cut the funding for soldiers coming back home. It’s an oligarchy, but most Americans are too busy playing Candy Crush to realize it.

      • Jib says:

@doofus, I designed a bumper sticker a few years back over on cafepress, but I never put it on my car because I live in rural upstate NY. It said,
“Republicans: they care about you until you are born.”

        Hahaha!!

      • MsGoblin says:

So many true thoughts on this string!
Tiffany is on-the-money regarding who de-funded programs.
Jib: We ARE an oligarchy. And, I love that bumper sticker and would have proudly displayed it if I had a car. (NYC-er here).
ToxicShock: “Everyone loves the troops when it’s free”. YES

        ^^^^These are my peeps.

    • Syko says:

It’s pretty sad that there are people who believe diplomacy is “kowtowing” to the enemy.

  4. Nancy says:

Not to get off track, but where do these names come from. My Lord. I never could stand her ah shucks way of talking to us “folks.” Whenever a question is raised that disheartens her she goes full blast into her Tina Fey material getting Sarah. Just take a look out your window at Russia, calm down, shoot a moose or something……just go away…..

    • Kitten says:

      lol

    • Christin says:

She has to be a delight for the comedy writers. It’s nearly impossible to decipher her actual words versus a comedy script. I think that’s why ‘I can see Russia from my house’ became attributed to SP.

      • mayamae says:

I once quoted Sarah Palin’s Paul Revere explanation, and a poster asked me (seriously) if I had actually quoted a SNL skit.

  5. Tiffany says:

I only positive I took from that cluster was that she said President Obama. When the criticism comes he title is never mentioned which is just as insulting.

  6. Bridget says:

“I was promised you wouldn’t ask any hard questions!”

  7. Esmom says:

Petty, thy name is Palin. Also Ignorance.

    • AntiSocialButterfly says:

      Sooooo thin-skinned, as well.

    • Bearcat Lawyer says:

Never forget…this woman could have been our second-in-command and could have had access to our nuclear weapon codes. If that does not scare people, I do not know what will!

  8. LAK says:

I will ask again……How risible were the background checks on her by John McGain’s Campaign? How did she become Governor?

    • Lama Bean says:

She HAD to have run unopposed in the gubernatorial race.

    • Lindy79 says:

I only watched the HBO movie with Ed Harris and Julianne Moore which was based on reports/interviews from people who were actually working that campaign and the impression they gave was that they did very little in depth research into her. She was a woman and pretty and a mom so they figured hey she’s look great on the campaign trail. By the time they figured out how badly it had gone wrong it was too late.
I mean they missed a lot of very superficial issues on her that anyone with access to Google could have gotten. Possibly it was arrogance that they figured they could use her to get him the votes but keep her under control and the American people wouldn’t cop how unsuitable she was.

      • Melly says:

That HBO movie was really good, I can’t remember the name though. By the end I was actually feeling a little sorry for Palin. Then she opens her mouth again and I remember why I dislike her so greatly.

      • Anname says:

It’s Game Change, I just watched it with my teenagers. Great movie.

      • Tia says:

Game Change. Oops, we were posting at the same time

      • anniefannie says:

The movie was based on “Game Change” and in the book the Campaign Manager claims that they assumed the attorney hired to vet Palin would be checking her foreign policy credentials & general knowledge and the attorney assumed the reverse. They spend a considerable amount of time on there realization that she was not only unqualified but also a unfiltered perpetual liar. For anyone else the book would have been a political career killer. Fortunately for Palin her followers are unbothered by lack of gravitas. It’s the moron leading the moronics!!

      • Kitten says:

Is that available on HBO Go? Must watch that..

      • anniefannie says:

@Kitten it is a MUST see! Julliane Moore plays Palin and she rivals Tina Fey in the role. Steven Schmidt is played by Woody Harrelson and it’s incredibly satisfying when thru out the movie he acknowledges his huge error in his support of Sarah selection as VP. Just the rarity of watching a Republican hold themselves accountable is worth the watch!!!

      • Jayna says:

@KItten, it’s so good that I watched it twice within a year and I want to watch it again. The performances by the cast are brilliant, with, of course, Julianne Moore at the top of the list. A definite must see like Annie says.

      • mayamae says:

The movie actually made her a bit more sympathetic. They portrayed her as more ignorant than devious, and she was stressed to the edge of a breakdown, where she curls up and cries about missing her baby. McCain was portrayed as a foul-mouthed man who handed over his VP choice to others to decide, then bitched non-stop at their terrible choice. The only person who comes off looking good was Sarah Paulson’s Nicholle Wallace.

I love Julianne Moore, but she never nailed the accent like Tina Fey does.

      • doofus says:

I agree with mayamae (mostly)…it made her sympathetic; at some points I actually felt a little sorry for her…

…but then, she started to believe her in her own grandeur and there was too much ego to acknowledge she was WAY OUT of her league. and then I stopped feeling sorry for her.

it’s an AWESOME movie, totally recommend it.

      • Wren says:

I’ll add to the list of “watch it, it’s good”. Very good performances and the story is well done. Palin is portrayed in a sympathetic way, but there’s no glossing over of her faults. It’s nice because it makes her human. An incredibly inept and ignorant one, but not some kind of evil conniving villain. Which she’s not intelligent enough to be anyway.

I felt sorry for her, being thrown in the deep end so publicly with way less help than you’d expect. She still sucks, of course, but it’s interesting to see.

      • ToxicShockAvenger says:

That, for me, showed SO much contempt and condescension toward women that McCain lost my vote forever. “We need the chick vote. Throw’em a bone(head).” Because, you know, us ladies….we’re pretty simple. If it pees the way I do, I have to vote for it! Wheeeee!

      • Deering says:

The GOP brain trust saw her as a “Hillary-killer,” which is why they opted for speed over vetting. It’s the same kind of insulting principle that led Bush I to nominate Clarence Thomas to replace Thurgood Marshall. “Sure, she’s a woman, but she’s our kind of woman.”

    • Bridget says:

Alaska’s a little different. It’s geographically huge, but has a tiny population, and they consider themselves to be something akin to the last ‘frontier’. Palin’s “outsider” persona really appealed to that. Not to mention she ran against a spectacularly unpopular incumbent governor.

And McCain actually did have a pick for VP: Joe Lieberman. Who was soundly rejected by the folks running his campaign (as Lieberman was a dem-leaning Independent). I think that was the point McCain just gave in.

      • Citresse says:

Alaska is a different world and I mean that in the nicest way. I met people there who said the fishing was better in the Yukon but Alaska IMO is far better in so many ways, mind you I don’t fish so perhaps fishing is considered better in some parts of the Yukon.
Wasilla was portrayed as a one horse town when it’s quite the opposite. It’s relatively close to Anchorage and the areas along the way are developed.
I didn’t get a chance to see the northern lights but I did see the bald eagles in the southern part of the state and some other areas of the state which are truly stunning. I would recommend Alaska to any person seeking time away to reflect, write, take in the views, enjoy the fresh air. It was plain to see why the Palins especially Sarah, rave about Alaska.

      • Bridget says:

It’s just a different place, with a very different viewpoint, and Alaskans like it that way.

  9. Carmen says:

When is she going to blame Obama for her daughter getting pregnant? It wouldn’t have happened either time if Obama hadn’t hid her birth control pills.
    🙄😖😱

  10. Ruyana says:

It makes me angry that the Republican-led Congress cuts veteran benefits and yet, somehow, everything, *everything*, is still President Obama’s fault. That’s all I’m going to say in the political vein. Sarah Palin has always gotten by on her looks so she never developed any intelligence.

    • chloe says:

This^^^ I’m so sick of Republicans using our military as their platform when realistically they have no problem taking away their benefits as soon as they come home for service, it always boggles my mind with the few conservative friends I have on Facebook start spewing crap about taking care of our troops and blaming everything on Obama when it’s their party that’s abusing our troops.

    • Jayna says:

      I agree.

    • Tiffany :) says:

So true! They use the troops for political gain, yet can’t be bothered to give them the services they deserve.

    • AntiSocialButterfly says:

Exactly. Much like how (R)s slashed security funding for embassies and consulates before Benghazi. And honestly, I am infuriated by the (D)s that don’t throw the (R) reckless budget slashing while maintaining tax breaks for millionaires/ billionaires back in their faces, loudly, publicly and frequently. Arrrrrghhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

      • Kitten says:

This though. Agree with everyone above that the GOP is awful in that regard but the Dems need to grow a pair.

  11. Lindy79 says:

“come over to the right side”

    leave Star Wars alone Palin!

  12. FingerBinger says:

Palin needs to bring a translator with her. That was gobbledegook.

    • Jayna says:

      So true.

    • Christin says:

And she is supposedly a communications (broadcast TV) major.

    • Deering says:

Eheheh. As a former Communications major, I can say their are two types of folks you get in the field. One set are skilled at writing/reading/communicating, and they love the work. The other set want to be the next big news brand, and all they care about is celebrity. Palin is a prime example of the latter.

  13. minx says:

    I despise this woman.

  14. One2 says:

So what she is saying is that her son wants to go back to the place that most likely gave him PTSD to kill people who want to kill him and thats why he abused his wife and its Obama’s fault beacuse he is personally saying ” You son of sarah palin cannot fight for our country beacuse you are son of sarah palin and i dont respect you!” No your son is an abuser who struck someone of his own will, not for any other reason. What she is basically saying is that the woman shouldn’t have made him mad and he wouldn’t have done it. Blaming anyone but the one at fault. Disgusting!

    • claire says:

It’s all a crock of sh*t anyway. The kid was already acting criminal and violent and totally going off the rails before the military. Most reports suggest the military enrollment was his way to run away from those issues and I assume his family hoped he’d get discipline. Then, in military, he saw no combat. He had a desk job. Sarah and her family have no accountability for anything and are exploiting a real problem that vets have. They’re gross people.

      • Joh says:

Supposedly a judge gave him the option of jail or military.
I like her go go dancer dress!

      • JenniferJustice says:

Not suggestions – pure facts! He was already in trouble for assault and the courts gave him a ultimatum – jail or enlist. He enlisted. And, no, he was never in combat, never saw the front lines. Anything traumatic he saw was from the window of the vehicle he chauffered leaders in. He does not have PTSD. He does, however, have a drinking problem and is simply violent. He is known for violent outbursts. They can’t even have a normal BBQ without it turning into a drunken brawl. They are trash. I can’t beleive she was voted governor even for the brief stint it was. I still laugh that Alaskan’s taxes paid for Palins breast implants. That’s when she got them.

  15. Melly says:

She is a true snowbilly. Alaskans must be so sick of her being the face of their state.

    • Jayna says:

      Snowbilly. LOL I love it.

    • Bridget says:

Well, the did elect her as governor.

    • Maureen says:

I can only speak for myself-but I am absolutely sick of this woman, and the fact our state is connected with her, so you are absolutely right Melly. I cringe whenever I see anything about her.

Bridget-not sure where your hostility towards Alaskans is coming from, but rest assured not all of us voted for, or were supporters of hers. I will say she didn’t seem as off the wall nuts back then as she does now, she must have hid it better.

  16. Alarmjaguar says:

I’m sorry, why is she being interviewed at all?!
    #sorrynotsorry

  17. HappyMom says:

Why is this woman given ANY platform on mainstream news? Let her stay on Faux News where she belongs. Ugh.

    • Melly says:

Fox News got rid of her, they finally realized she wasn’t good for the brand. I think she has a show on OANN, a station which makes Fox News look rational and liberal by comparison.

    • Esmom says:

Sadly a lot of mainstream news like Today is less about news and more about entertainment, so she’s irresistible as entertainment, I think. I really wish everyone would ignore her but she gets the clicks, etc.

  18. K says:

Now please correct me if I’m wrong people with military experience, but hasn’t the PTSD been caused by being sent over to Iraq and Afghanistan and fighting in these wars? Wouldnt going over and “kicking Isis’ butt Give more soldiers PTSD?” I’m not saying we don’t have to deal with them, I’m just saying a ground approach may not be the best option. I truly don’t know.

    • Carol says:

Your argument requires logical thinking. Palin lacks the mental capacity needed for such thought.

    • Melly says:

PTSD is a really complicated physical/psychological/emotional trauma. As far as I know, exposure therapy (exposing a patient to their fears/cause of trauma) would be the worst possible thing you could do. If her son actually has PTSD, which I severly doubt, why havent the Palins got him into treatment? Why is a tea party conservative asking the federal government (Obama) for health care coverage for her son?

    • Veronica says:

Some people like to think you can win a war by dropping a ton of bombs all over the place. As if the human cost of THAT doesn’t come with repercussions.

  19. Carol says:

I had to read her quote a few time just to understand what the heck she was trying to say (of course my tears of laughter were also blurring my vision). I blame Senator McCain for thrusting this idiot upon the world. How can anyone think this person had the intelligence, nevermind the emotional maturity, to be the VP when she can’t even form a sentence? She an embarrassment to our educational system. Even though she provides endless entertainment, seriously her quotes are like verbal sudoku, she needs to go away already.

    • Esmom says:

It is scary to think how little substance mattered to McCain’s team when they were looking for a running mate.

      • Whiskeyjack says:

Esmom, I could not agree more. I was so insulted, as a woman, at the time. I felt like he looked around and saw her, picked her up, turned her over like a kitten, saw she had the right parts, and said, “She’ll do.”

It was so obvious she lacked intelligence, as she couldn’t string two words together. All I could think was he chose her because she was a woman, and he must not have much respect for women if he could not bother to find someone better in the entire Republican party because there obviously were far better choices he could have made within his own party.

      • Christin says:

It appears the vetting process was little more than a list of female Repub party governors and their photographs.

      • doofus says:

yup, said it before, I’ll say it again.

all his running mate needed was a hoo-ha. his team figured (and this shows you what they think about women in general) that they’d pick a woman…any woman…to win over the disgruntled Hillary voters who had “lost” to Obama.

they didn’t realize that people like Hillary because she had substance, not because she had ovaries.

    • Anname says:

I can’t believe McCain has never admitted how awful a decision it was. He still defends her and her selection. It’s obvious she totally damaged his campaign, and has turned out to be crazy.

      • Esmom says:

I think McCain didn’t want to win. Look at the mess he would have inherited. You could see by the time the election actually rolled around that his heart was not in it. He just had this frozen smile on his face most of the time.

    • Katy says:

Honestly, I was backing McCain for president until he picked her as his running mate. I have NEVER respected him again!!

      • Kitten says:

I wasn’t backing him for president but I always really liked McCain a lot. He seemed like a really smart, reasonable guy. Then Palin happened…

      • Juls says:

I believe he threw that election on purpose. The economy was in the tank thanks to the Bush years. How to fix it? Let the black guy win! Then we can blame everything on him! Which is exactly what they did after Obama took office. Sadly, a lot of people took the bait.

    • K says:

Senator McCain owes America an apology, I mean my god, what was he thinking. Clearly she has a vagina so women will vote for her. Which I can’t tell you how insulting that is to me but no question that is what he thought. And since then this woman has been a boil on American society.

    • Bearcat Lawyer says:

Back in 2009 – after the election – one of my hard core Republican friends (who I will admit can be a little bit of a wing nut) claimed that McCain deliberately did everything in his power to lose the election and to allow President Obama to win. According to her, McCain was furious that the Bush campaign had run primary ads in certain southern states in 2004 insinuating that McCain’s adopted Bangladeshi daughter was in fact his half-black, half-white love child and hinting about his wife Cindy’s prior addiction problems. Purportedly choosing Sarah Palin as his running mate and ensuring she was totally unprepared for the national campaign stage were his ultimate revenge on the Republican party.

I am not sure I believe this, mind you, but it certainly is a more plausible explanation than McCain seriously thinking this woman is capable of winning and functioning in a national elected office!

      • Bridget says:

The thing about the campaign ads is true – it famously torpedoed his primary bid in 2000, though from what I understand they weren’t actually campaign ads so much as leading phone calls, along the lines of “would you still vote for John McCain if you knew he had an illegitimate black child?”. Even though his daughter was from Bangladesh and was adopted by both him and Cindy, it completely sunk his primary campaign in the southern states where the calls were run. Karl Rove was especially proud of that maneuver.

Yet I don’t know that I would say that McCain blew his own campaign to get back at Bush for that; word is he had his heart set on Joe Lieberman for his VP, but when the GOP brass gave him a hard ‘no’ because Joe was an Independent (and former Dem). I’ve always thought McCain couldn’t put up with the crazy in the upper echelons of the GOP and it just took the heart out of him. This was fresh out of the Bush presidency and Karl Rove still considered himself to be the Kingmaker, and party politics were all about pandering to the ultra-conservative base, which McCain simply isn’t. It’s the same thing that ran Romney into the ground.

      • Deering says:

From a historic POV, the American people owe her the same debt that the British owe Wallis Simpson. 😉 McCain would have been a ghastly president just like Edward would have been a disastrous king. Both women saved generations from bad bad news…

  20. Lilacflowers says:

Congress decides whether to appropriate money for the military or veterans services. President Obama is not a member of Congress.

Read the Constitution, Sarah, or have somebody read it to you

    • lucy2 says:

This is the person who didn’t even understand the job she was running for.
Remember when she more than once went on about the VP “running the Senate” and “getting in there” to make policy changes? Which is completely wrong.
I honestly think she’d flunk an exam asking about the different branches of government and their duties. Actually…no, she’d probably start the exam and quit halfway through.

    • SusanneToo says:

She wouldn’t understand it either way.

  21. Jayna says:

God, that was beyond cringeworthy. Unbelievable she could have been a heartbeat away from the presidency and that anyone still listens to her as she talks in circles as usual and uses her buzz words.

  22. Addison DeWitt says:

I don’t think he would have had an ‘automatic’ weapon. Semi-automatic would be the proper term. Automatic would be another story altogether. I know I sound nitpicky, but I keep hearing about ‘automatic’ weapons and it is not used correctly.

  23. Jayna says:

Boy, is that white sequined mini dress tacky and cheap looking.

  24. anniefannie says:

That segment was comedy gold! The look on Savannah and Matt’s face before they broke the segment (mixture of confusion and hilarity) was priceless!
This moron needs to quietly withdraw from the spotlight as she’s making SNL’s creative process a cakewalk!

  25. Margo S. says:

I just can’t with her. Hot mess.

  26. GoodNamesAllTaken says:

“My son suffers from PSTD. We were unaware of the extent of his trauma until the recent domestic violence incident. There is never an excuse for domestic violence. Ever. Our son takes full responsibility for his actions, has sincerely apologized and has acknowledged that he needs help in overcoming this disorder and managing his anger. We are getting our son the help he needs, and we will see that this never happens again.”

Words you will never hear SP speak.

    • Christin says:

Far too mature and rational sounding. Imagine a child of someone like this having anger issues. Such a surprise!

  27. Susan says:

That’s a run-on sentence. I think she needs to respect the value of a period. That’s the nicest thing I can say about the interview.

  28. HK9 says:

It is so painful to watch the two rocks in her head try to eke out a coherent thought.

  29. Debra says:

I can’t get past the fact that she..a politician (??) has the nerve to complain about a reporter not “keeping his promises”. Really??? Does a politician ever keep a promise?

    • Cricket says:

i think she watched the Trump and O’Reilly discussion about milkshakes and added this to her tactics for deflecting questions and failed miserably.

  30. Susan says:

That’s a run-on sentance. I think she needs to respect the value of a period. That’s the nicest thing I can say about the interview.

  31. Heather says:

Track probably does have PTSD, but it’s from living in Alaska.

  32. Pandy says:

Can’t watch video but wondering if she pronounced adamantly correctly?

  33. AmyB says:

Does she have an allergy to punctuation? Why can this woman NOT form a grammatically correct sentence? She is a true embarrassment and her comments about Obama/PTSD were horrible and in such bad taste. Trump and Palin deserve each other 😉

    • Kitten says:

No wonder they get along so well. Both defensive, arrogant, unintelligent blowhards. Cut from the same cloth.

  34. Giddy says:

Remember kids, you can’t fix stupid.

  35. Cirque28 says:

Adderall is doing her no favors. Skinny, talkative, scattered, paranoid, with a big victim complex… is no way to go through life.

    • Vermicious Knid says:

It looks to me like she’s got a serious substance abuse problem. Something big is going on under the surface here. Maybe Adderall, perhaps coke but definitely a stimulant. Messed up family aside, she’s gonna implode eventually.

    • Maria A. says:

Interesting you would bring up Adderall. A family cousin over on Immoral Minority’s comments said that Bristol is seriously addicted, snorting, etc.
I looked up the effects of Adderall addiction and …MAN!

  36. Angelica says:

    What an idiot.

  37. iheartgossip says:

Serious question here: Is she on drugs? I don’t (necessarily) mean illegal drugs. Something is seriously wrong with this woman. And she needs to cut back on the botox, fillers, and hair extensions. WoW! One last bit, I don’t think she and Todd are in a real marriage any longer. No way she would ‘allow’ him to divorce her. What with her fake family values, ‘n all.

  38. lile says:

She is a sad, pathetic excuse for a politician by any countrys standards.

  39. Kri says:

I have to speak to this.First, she is clearly a lying.opportunistic, full of crap foolbot.But..what of government (of BOTH parties) has done/nothing done for our vets is a damn disgrace. This government of ours needs to remember they work for us.Fix Flint, fix the VA,get your heads out of your asses and get to work, you greedy bastards.I have had it with Palinbot, and every other politico who can’t do their job.ID any of us went to work and acted like these hollow, greedy liars,we would be canned.Sick of BS.

  40. Mollie says:

HA HA HA HA I loved it when Matt called her out and said “THERE WERE No PROMISES MADE”

    Joy.

  41. Pink Elephant says:

Wow. It’s like she’s on a direct link to SNL/actively force feeding lines to Tina Fey. Blessings!

  42. anne_000 says:

Since she put out her son’s alleged PTSD problem for public consumption and to make a political point, it then became fair game to question her about it.

She should have said only that it’s a private matter and said no more, but she didn’t. So now it becomes part of public discourse.

    • lucy2 says:

Exactly. She tried to spin that and use it for political gain, which is so disgusting, but yes, she’s the one who made it public.

    • AmyB says:

I agree completely. She was the one who made that idiotic statement. And what a disgraceful and distasteful comment it was. She and Trump are literally giving comedians and SNL so much glorious material! I also agree with some other commenters: she seems to be on something (drug wise). The woman cannot form a complete sentence to save her life LOL

  43. Lou says:

This is probably the most eloquent and decipherable she has ever been

  44. Tate says:

Once again… way to thrust this idiot on us, McCain. It speaks volumes to your judgement.

  45. Sarah says:

The real problem is blaming PTSD for her sons abhorrent behavior. It only furthers misconceptions and stereotypes of the disease

  46. Jwoolman says:

Should have asked her if she wants to send Track off to fight ISIS. He can take Willow with him. She’s old enough. Heck, Bristol could go, too, after leaving her kids with grandma. Three patriotic Palins doing their patriotic duty. Any other politicians who agree with her could send their kids and grandkids, too. That would be a real volunteer Army.

  47. Jazmin says:

Does anyone know the brand of her frameless glasses? I kind of like them!!
I think her daughter wore that dress before to one of her former red carpet moments?
