“Britain’s Got Talent” sensation Susan Boyle on the Early Show

Watch CBS Videos Online
47 year-old Scottish woman Susan Boyle made headlines around the world with an incredible audition for “Britain’s Got Talent.” Boyle’s haunting pitch-perfect rendition of “I Dreamed a Dream” is an Internet sensation and has been viewed over 12 million times on YouTube. “Britain’s Got Talent” set up Susan’s audition as one in which you expect the person to not be able to sing a note. She’s a frumpy older woman with bushy eyebrows and puffy hair and they played that kind of music during her introduction that pokes fun at the person. Susan told the camera ahead of her performance that she lives alone with her cat, Pebbles and that “I’ve never been married, never been kissed.” She got a little flustered when Simon was questioning her on stage. You just kind of expect her to fail and then she belts out this amazing, touching tune.

Boyle appeared on CBS’ Early Show this morning, and she’s not quite media savvy yet, but she sang the song again and you can tell her performance on “Britain’s Got Talent” was no fluke. She hit every note in her A cappella version. Boyle said her courage to sing in front of so many people came from her mother, who died recently. She said we’ll have to watch “Britain’s Got Talent” to see what she sings next. Millions around the world will be tuning in.

In an interview posted on Britain’s Got Talent’s website, Susan says her dream is to sing for the Queen. I’ll bet that comes true for her before the year is out.

The next episode of “Britain’s Got Talent” airs this Saturday.

I LOVE HER!!!! Reminds me of Paul Potts from last year. If you haven’t seen him on You Tube, you’re missing out!

  5. Trey says:

    Love this quote:
“If it all gets too much and they lock me up, I want a great big straight jacket with spots on it. A pink one…”

“…And a big zip on the back so I can escape!”

    from link mentioned above.

  6. Hieronymus Grex says:

You all sure that’s not a guy in a dress Ala’ Monty Python ? 😆

  7. Wow says:

I love this story. West End, here comes Susan.

  8. Orangejulius says:

I watched it twice…and bawled both times. The looks on the faces of the audience were your worst nightmare and then she wowed the sh*t out of them. If it’s true that she’s never been kissed (horrors), or even if it isn’t, I hope she has a wonderful time with her singing now.

  9. ash says:

I can’t wait to see her perform again, love that woman! She looks super kind.

  10. Ryo says:

I wish I could get this show here in the US because I’d totally watch to see if she wins! I like her.

I hope she makes it!!! I adore her.

  14. Chiara says:

Good example of a kind and caring daughter taking care of her ill mother until her death.

    Talent with a heart.

  15. Zoe (The Other One) says:

She’s so great. Can’t wait to see what she does next. I think that her comment about singing for the Queen is because the prize for winning BGT is being given the opportunity to perform at the Royal Variety Performance. Fingers crossed for her.

In other news I’m shocked that I actually watched that on the Early Show this morning – I didn’t realise we got it live here – I thought we were a few days behind!

  16. abbizmal says:

Yay Susan! She is so likeable. She will succeed whether she wins the competition or not. I find it hard to believe, though, that someone could actually beat her when she has such an amazing talent. I want to hear more. I’m rooting for her, too. Thanks for posting this, Celebitchy, and keep us posted.
PS – I say, nothing wrong with a 47-year-old woman living with a bunch of cats. 😉

  17. abbizmal says:

PPS – Maybe she can give Madonna some singing lessions, though I don’t it will help. 😀

  18. the original kate says:

what a beautiful voice and a lovely woman. she better win.

  19. Cinderella says:

She said she had professional training in Livingston. Not sure what that means.

Either way, she’s really good. Maybe we’ll see her on Broadway.

  20. Ceenitall says:

I hope she goes all the way to the end. She is the sweetest lady.

  21. Noname says:

She was awesome! Hope she wins.

  22. Tess says:

She has an inner beauty, sweetness, and lovliness that really is something to see.

Spent her life overcoming hardship and caring for her parents.

  23. Tess says:

    One other thought:

I have a nagging suspicion that the show’s producers told the hair people to concoct that heiness rat’s nest of a hair style for her…just to make her look extra ridiculous, cuz I’m sure that’s NOT the way she normally does her hair.

  24. Mandi says:

What an amazing voice. I’m rooting for her.

  25. IvyMades says:

She is amazing. I’m rooting for her too. 11 million youtube hits and fans + well wishes from around the world. It’s amazing.

  26. judy says:

What a great voice. I dont care what she looks like,it is what is inside that counts and she seems like a great lady. I hope she wins and I hope that those that looked at her with a smirk on their face were humbled like they should have been. She may not be a knock out but she has a great personality and my God what a voice.

  27. Shelby says:

I just can’t stop myself from watching her performance over and over; the reactions of the audience and judges are as priceless as her singing.

What a wonderful story! Go Susan, go!

  28. gg says:

Ryo, keep checking YouTube – I bet you will see her again at some point.

What I love about her is her attitude. She seems fearless.

  29. Dingles says:

If she doesn’t win, I will just be wrecked. She has a fantastic, natural charisma and a very playful personality. It would be a shame if she doesn’t at least go into theater, she was made to perform. And how delightfully European is the name “Susan Boyle”?

  30. heh-heh says:

She said she had professional training in Livingston. Not sure what that means.

Maybe, but training isn’t everything. You can’t train a porcupine to figure skate.

She had a gift from God to begin with. I hope she goes all the way to the top.

  31. Tanya says:

I reckon, just a bit of weight loss and a big makeover, which I’m sure this lady will receive and you’ll see a transformation, that’ll shock the world. If you have a close look at her, the nose, eye’s etc are all great, just needs eyebrow shaping, new hairdo, makeup etc. Let’s face it, every woman needs something!
Good on you Susan, what a lovely story.
I balled like a baby when I watched you!

  32. Autumm Leaves says:

Team Susan!! She has melted my heart. Her song moved me. I hope she wins because she’s very talented!

  33. Ursula says:

I am a huge fan. She is such goodness. Hopefully she can join the westend so I can go watch her. I will toally buy her album. She should sing another one like that. Please post her next performance.

  34. eternalcanadian says:

lol, this woman is so funny to watch. she reminded me of that guy who sang “she bangs”. dang i forgot his name now, but yes, hope she enjoys her 15 minutes of fame. 🙂

  35. heh-heh says:

she reminded me of that guy who sang “she bangs”. dang i forgot his name now…

And well you should, and what an absurd comparison to make. This woman’s voice is angelic and stirring, and that other singer (William Hung, if you must know) is a bad joke who ought to be forgotten.

That’s like comparing Meryl Streep to Adam Sandler.

  36. Liz Conley says:

She is AMAZING! It just reminds me of how many spoiled brats we have on our own American Idol, while this woman brings it back to “salt of the earth”! What I feel, a reality show of searching for talent should be…brought tears to my eyes to hear her!

  37. Maritza says:

It would be great if some network would offer to pay a makeover for her that way she could be beautiful on the outside as well as talented.

  38. british bitch says:

She´s getting her Karma, and it´s all good. Go Susan!

  39. Her voice is simply incredible.

I do hope the fame doesn’t go to her head; there are rumors she is considering plastic surgery! Part of her charm is her natural beauty. . .

  40. JUSTINE says:
