John Edwards’ mistress agrees to interview with ABC

The situation for disgraced former presidential candidate John Edwards is really starting to get sticky. We told you how Edwards privately admitted to his wife that he is indeed the father of mistress Rielle Hunter’s 1-year-old daughter, Frances. Now, Elizabeth Edwards, who is dying from terminal breast cancer, will be making an appearance on The Oprah Winfrey Show. It’s not clear what Mrs. Edwards will be talking about, but Rielle Hunter is prepared to respond to any potential remarks by making an appearance of he own in an exclusive interview with Diane Sawyer or Barbara Walters.

John Edwards’ mistress Rielle Hunter is “ready for her close-up” with her first national TV interview since the cheating scandal wrecked his career, The ENQUIRER has learned exclusively.

In a startling change of heart, Rielle Hunter has decided to face the cameras and has narrowed her choice of interviewer to either “ABC News” correspondents Diane Sawyer or Barbara Walters, say sources.

“Rielle had previously assured John she wasn’t going to spill the beans,” said a close source. “But she’s changed her tune after thinking Elizabeth Edwards might disparage her in the upcoming interview she’s already taped with Oprah Winfrey.

“The interview will be broadcast in mid-May to coincide with the publication of Elizabeth’s new book in which she’s likely to address the affair.”

As a result, a behind-the-scenes war of words is breaking out between Rielle and Elizabeth.

“Rielle’s decided she’s not going to sit back while Edwards’ wife gives her side of the story,” said the close source. “As much as John hates it, he’s defenseless to stop either woman from saying what she wants. It’s now erupted into a war between his wife and his former mistress over who will have the last word in what could be dueling TV interviews.”

Rielle intensified talks with the ABC superstars in early April in preparation for going in front of the cameras.

“No deal is done, but Rielle seems to favor Barbara Walters over Diane because Barbara admitted recently she engaged in a long-ago affair,” said the close source. “This makes Rielle believe Barbara will show her more compassion than Diane would.”

Following a series of world exclusive Enquirer exposes, the former presidential candidate finally admitted to the affair last summer – after our reporters caught the ex-senator visiting Rielle and her baby in a Beverly Hills hotel.

Both Edwards and Rielle have publicly maintained that Edwards is not the father.

Rielle claimed that the father is Andrew Young, a married Edwards crony. But we’ve reported that Rielle has privately told close friends that she never had a sexual relationship with Young – and has confided that Edwards is really the baby’s father.

Will Rielle spill her guts on national TV?

[From The National Enquirer print version, April 27, 2009]

Between his wife doing Oprah and his mistress doing ABC news, John Edwards’ head must be about to explode. And I say, serves him right! This jerk thought he could get away with cheating on his terminally ill wife AND fathering a child with that mistress. He admitted in that interview last year that not only did he cheat, but he is a narcissist. Damn right. I don’t really have any interest in hearing what this Rielle person has to say. She’s just as bad as he is. It’s not like she didn’t know what she was getting herself into with Edwards. The person I’d love to hear from is Elizabeth – although it seems like she has chosen to stand by her man- even though he’s a total scum bag.

I wouldn’t bother, Sugartits. Nothing you could say is going to improve your image and the only remotely classy thing you can do is keep your mouth shut and disappear from public eye for the sake of your child.

  2. Sarah says:

Ugh. Does she really think her “defending herself” after Elizabeth’s interview will garner her any sympathy?

  3. bros says:

i agree. how can you win a war of words against a woman dying from cancer when you slept with her husband? the ONLY semi-unevil thing you can do is STFU.

  4. kiki says:

I never liked John from the start theres something ick about him.
the mistress has No Shame I read her backstory she was on the make from the very start she told everyone that she wanted to be famous and at 40+ years she did she met and had a affair with John and got knocked up. of course he was stupid to get involved with a schemeing woman nothing came out of his presidential ambitions

  5. Monica says:

Wow, does she really think anyone cares what she has to say? BTW, John, if you are going to mess around, did it have to be with someone so ugly?

  6. Ned says:

“This jerk thought he could get away with cheating on his terminally ill wife AND fathering a child with that mistress”

May I add he didn’t want to acknowledge the child was his (which means, as far as he was concerned, his child would grow up without having a father…).

If that wasn’t enough, he got his mistress a job and got the campaign money pay her employment (while he was “reaping the “benefits”).

I just wonder how such a person ran for presidency and what might have happened had he gotten the nomination.

How do you have such nerve to ask for the nomination while doing such things at the same time.

  7. Tess says:

wish both the mistress and the wife would show a little dignity and stay away from self-serving interviews.

Doesn’t add luster to any of the parties.

  8. MaiGirl says:

I feel so sorry for that child having such a wench of a mother. It really says something about her character (or rather, lack thereof) that she feels justified in defending herself. I would have at least a shred of respect for her if she admitted that what she did was indefensible and just do as one poster said above, STFU.

  9. Casey says:

The mistress is just another attention whore. Yawn.

  10. Prissa says:

Disparage HER? She’s the other woman. I think she disparaged herself.

  11. kiki says:

I say Barabra Walters gets to interview her, Babs interviews all the hos she got a special place in her heart for them

  12. bittercup says:

Will the winners of the Blatant Double Standard Award please come to accept..

She deserves the same hero’s welcome and adulation from this site afforded to Levi Johnston- a favorite oracle of everything Palin

This woman offers no insight into the Lefts favorite hero of the poor John Edwards? Really?

  13. annie says:

    #12 right on!

  14. Orangejulius says:

Speaking as a semi-poor leftie, John Edwards was never my hero. I’ll take my Obama Kool-Ade any day, thank you very much.

Elizabeth is presumably promoting her book, so she gets a pass, but Rielle Hunter just needs to gracefully exit stage left.

  15. Cherubim says:

I pray it is not true that Barbara Walters is about to interview that
s##t Rielle Hunter, aka Lisa Druke. But Barbara WAwa might do it; because
Barbara Walters, herself, had a “secret” love affair with married Republican Senator Edward Brooke, of Massachusetts, at the time (back in the seventies) the Senate’s only African-American.

John and Elizabeh Edwards were the best advocates America had for Universal Health Care. I want them both to return and help in the fight for Universal Health Care. To understand what I’m talking about

I think it’s time for everyone to get out of John and Elizabeth’s personal lives.

Here’s what John Edwards told “Nightline” about his wife Elizabeth.
“I’m in love with one woman. I’ve been in love with one woman for 31 years. She is the finest human being I have ever known. And the fact that she is with me after this having happened is a testament to the kind of woman and the kind of human being she is. There is a deep and abiding love that exists between Elizabeth and myself. It’s always been there, it in my judgment has never gone away.”

  17. Bodhi says:

I supported John Edwards & was upset when this story broke. I still think the man has really good ideas as far as how to run the country, but his personal life… yeah, no. I just wish they’d do a Maury Povich DNA test & get the damn thing over with.

This Rielle person was a shady, shady bitch long before she met Edwards (not, of course, that the fact excuses his shitastic behavior).

  18. Mojo says:

what a disgrace. I used to like him.

  19. snappyfish says:

I agree with Bodhi. He was also a great defender of the poor. I have always respected Elizabeth.

I would love to see her on Oprah, I am sure she will speak more about living than dying. She has been through many things, the loss of a child, breast cancer and now her husbands bad behavior. She does have something to say.

Rielle Hunter, keep your mouth shut. I think she thought they (Edwards) would be together one day (ack) and now she is seeing that might not be the case. So lets make as much as I can out of this.

and what kind of self respecting woman gets knocked up during her affair with a married man and thinks that she wouldn’t be disparaged? She disparaged herself.

  20. Katrina says:

Reille Hunter is worried that Elizabeth Edwards will “disparage” her? LMAO!

Rielle, the “coke whore, party girl” who seduced a married man whose wife has cancer is worried about her reputation? The woman is delusional! And boring. And a disgrace to all women. She should do us all a favor and stfu.

Elizabeth Edwards, on the other hand, always has something valuable to say, whether she is advocating for health care or sharing her personal experiences. She is a woman who is much loved and highly respected, by many. I’m certain her book tour and upoming appearances will be a huge sucess.

  21. Dudeness says:

What the heck is going on with the last five or so posts on this?? Everyone is starting to absolve Edwards of blame just because he supposedly “stuck up for the poor”…sure, while he lived in a power-gulping mansion nowhere near a single homeless person.

Why are some so willing to absolve serious character flaws just because their “hearts are in the right place”?

If Edwards couldn’t be honest about this (cheating on a dying wife, and was willing to let the child grow up without a father just to protect his political career), then how do you expect him to run the country??

  22. Marilyn says:

Edwards speaking on poverty issues is history. I’m not excusing Edwards lack of character either but why worry about Edwards running the country – he’s done in politics. Rielle is looking to make as much money off the affair and child as she can because Edwards didn’t leave his wife for her. Rielle is the gift that keeps on giving!

  23. sissoucat says:

Dudeness: do you still believe that “honesty with the public on all and every personal issue” is the secret behind being a good Head of State ?

The Talebans were funded by the USA, to have a friendly fundamentalist group not too far from Iran. A political move, like big rich countries sometimes feel they have to do. Too bad it backfired, the Talebans currently hating more the Americans than the Iranians, thanks to a renegade of the oil-rich and USA-friendly bin Laden family. And thanks to some war.

When promoting the Talebans was discussed among big men in the White House, with little concern to how much suffering it would bring onto the millions of local women, do you think it was such an issue to know whom amongst those bigwigs was really 100% getting his sex only from his legal partner ?

What does sex behavior have to do with political ability ?

Oh, yeah, Dubya was in bed early every night. Was he a good Head of State ?

  24. Man Cheat says:

    Edward is not a gentleman.

His wife is a real woman who was faithfull.

You agree with me , right?
