Goldie Hawn in talks to play Amy Schumer’s mom: perfect casting?

Comedienne-turned-actress Amy Schumer is gearing up for her second film, and she’s already luring some big wattage star power to the project. All eyes are on Goldie Hawn to play Amy’s Mom in an as yet untitled action/comedy flick for Fox. The movie will be produced by Paul Feig, who is currently directing the all-female Ghostbusters reboot, so that’s encouraging.

The 34-year-old actress, and 2015’s Most Intriguing Person according to People Magazine, has faced the slings and arrows of social media lately over accusations that she was stealing jokes, but she’s seemed to come out of it relatively unscathed. She’s getting her own HBO comedy special later this year, directed by Chris Rock. The special is set to be recorded at New York’s famed Apollo Theater on May 29.

Goldie, 70, hasn’t made a movie since 2002’s The Banger Sisters with Susan Sarandon. I am a big fan myself and am happy to see her return to the big screen, as long as it doesn’t interfere with Divanation, her on-screen reunion with First Wives Club co-stars Diane Keaton and Bette Midler. The new movie with Amy and Goldie is a mother-daughter caper revolving around a vacation gone wrong. Could be great, could be the next Guilt Trip (a movie Barbra Streisand couldn’t even save) .

I think that this is pretty inspired casting. Looks-wise, I don’t think you could cast anyone else, they are both adorable and look related. And, let’s not forget that Goldie had her time as a “girl power” spokeswoman – like when she played the coach of a high school football team in Wildcats (and even tried her hand at rapping…well, not really, but this was my favorite memory of the movie). Goldie has made me laugh in so many other movies (Foul Play, anyone?) and I do love Amy’s stand up and series, so I think they are a perfect match. Can you think of a better choice? I sure can’t.

I like Goldie. She’s s funny lady and I’d love to see her back on screen.

Not a fan of Amy but maybe this will be a good movie anyway

  2. tracking says:

I’ve always loved Goldie Hawn, and would be so happy to see her on screen again. She and Schumer have very different comedic styles, interesting to think how that might work.

  3. CornyBlue says:

I will watch anything Paul Feig makes so I am here for this

  4. GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Love Goldie. Amy leaves me cold. I don’t see any chemistry there.

  5. Adrien says:

I guess Tonya Harding wasn’t available.

  6. Naya says:

I enjoy Goldie always have. And Amy won me over with her sketch show. So, wins all around imo. Also Chris Rock is shaping up to be quite the power player, about time too.

  7. MinnFinn says:

Goldie has messed with her face too much and it’s morphed into being way too distracting. So no she can’t be the movie mom.

  8. cleveland girl says:

Don’t hate me, but I think Goldie it too old to play Amys mom. The lady that played Stifflers Mom – I can’t remember her name would be a better choice, and she is really funny too.

  9. Patricia says:

Well this will be a problem for me. I adore Goldie and will go see any movie she makes. Very exciting that she will be back on the silver screen.
Amy… ugh. The opposite of Goldie. Low-brow, irritating, vulgar, and way too into herself. Boo. I’ll have to sit through it though!

    • peanuts says:

Actually Goldie is very full of herself also and not even aware of it, constantly saying “I” and “me” in her interviews. Great actress though, huge star.

  10. GingerCrunch says:

Yes, Foul Play was TOO cute! Anyone remember Best Friends with Burt Reynolds? She was so adorable. If she could do that in this role it would be fantastic! As for Amy, Train Wreck was disappointing.

  11. anniefannie says:

Hasnt the HBO special at the Apollo already been shot/shown? Or is this another one? I’d be surprised if Rock signed on for another cause the 1st had a lukewarm response….

  12. spider says:

What HAS she done to her mouth?

    • NeoCleo says:

Both Russell and Hawn look really rough. I think they’ve both spent a lot of time out of doors and of course they are no longer young. I like them together. They’re a great couple.

I can see her playing Amy’s mom in a movie. They can do wonders with photography and Goldie Hawn is a brilliant comedian.

      • peanuts says:

She’s been a smoker most of her adult life, so maybe that’s why. I suspect she had face work done between Overboard and Bird on a Wire.

  13. Rachel says:

Corey, I can’t believe you mentioned The First Wives Club, but didn’t make a Monique’s mother reference!

  14. mayamae says:

Just re-watched Seems Like Old Times. She was just adorable, and what a dream to have a house full of dogs named after Shakespeare characters, and a couple of cats, too.

  15. Jaded says:

She was sooooo good in Cactus Flower (won an Oscar) and Shampoo….I still watch those from time to time (ya, dating myself….)

  16. Drbzy says:

Uhm, Amy’s Apollo show was already released. Like. Several months ago. The Vulture article linked here is dated May 2015.
