Was Johnny Depp covered in scarves & drowning in booze at the Grammys?

FFN_KM_Grammy_Arr_021416_51971606

The Hollywood Vampires walked the red carpet together for the Grammys last night. The Hollywood Vampires = Johnny Depp, Joe Perry and Alice Cooper. While Amber Heard wasn’t invited to strut her stuff on the Grammy red carpet, she did get photographed with Johnny after the show. I suspect she was at the Grammys but didn’t walk the carpet with him. The Hollywood Vampires performed a tribute to the late Motörhead frontman Lemmy Kilmister, so they performed “Ace of Spades,” then they did their new song “As Bad As I Am.”

I know a lot will be written about Depp’s douchey middle-aged rocker vibe, but… I mean, whatever, so he’s “in a band.” So he thinks he’s rock n’ roll. So he reeks of mid-life crisis. So he’s covered in scarves and necklaces and rings and vests and unwashed hair. That’s who he is, man. What concerned me more was that Depp seemed hammered on the red carpet. It seems like he’s sh-tfaced on every red carpet lately. And that’s not “mid-life crisis,” that’s alcoholism.

Also: on the Grammys red carpet, Depp told an Australian outlet that his nemesis Barnaby Joyce had invited him to come back to Australia and stay at his (Joyce’s) house.

Amber’s eyes are screaming “Help me!”

    • GlimmerBunny says:

Haha yeah I thought the same thing. She looks like she would rather be anywhere but there in the last pic.

      • Wentworth Miller says:

Classic case of be careful what you wish for. He didn’t look like this during Rum Diaries. Bet she never thought that she would roll over one morning and ask herself who the fck is in her bed beside her.

    • Spikey says:

Lol. Totally. I could hear a tiny, squeaky voice in my head, too!

    • Mia4s says:

Actually my first thought was “that’s so sweet, he brought his daughter to the Gramm…….oh.”

    • BooBooLaRue says:

lol, she looks as if she is embarrassed to be squeezed by this old man

    • Calcifer says:

Amber looks like she has a major cold. Either that, or she is ‘digesting’ a recent and major disappointment in life The usual smugness is missing from her face (temporarily probably) .

  2. Cupcake says:

I feel sorry for his kids.

  3. InVain says:

That mouth…so gross. It’s hard to watch because I witnessed his finer days. He can’t be okay, I wish he’d get help and clean up.

  4. Goo says:

Does it matter? Half the audience at the Grammy’s were intoxicated…. Who cares!

    • Mich says:

People care because they care about Depp.

      Addiction kills.

    • isabelle says:

He is middle aged man acting like he did when he was in his twenties. Even in Hollywood most men are settled by his age and not partying hard. Threw his family away for it and the woman that will support him for now. Even rockstars shut that sh*t down sooner or later. He is a probable addict. In fact he has been treated for addiction. He is a hot mess. He isn’t partying for this event only, this is his daily life, thats the big problem.

      • Laura says:

“Even in Hollywood most men are settled by his age”

“Even rockstars shut that sh*t down sooner or later.”

Oh, please… You know this isn’t true.

  5. Shambles says:

Babe… What happened to you? What a waste of some goddamed beautiful cheekbones. Ugh. YOUR CHEEKBONES DESERVED BETTER THAN THIS, JOHNNY

But seriously: I have mad love for him as an actor, and I hope he seeks help before he kills himself because that looks like more than alcoholism. Genuinely brings sadness to my heart.

    • OhDear says:

Same – if he needs help, I hope he gets it soon. Also hope that he has a good support system.

      • WTF says:

Amber Heard doesn’t appear to be much of a support system for him. Remember the fall of 2014 and his drunken display at the Hollywood Film Awards? After that the mags and rags were writing that she wouldn’t marry him until he got cleaned up/sober. He did the PR for Mortdecai, where he was obviously wasted most of the time, even his buddy Paul Bettany looked disgusted with him. That ended and they got married. So much for Amber holding out until he was a more whole person. It smacks of, she let him get to his lowest and she took advantage of it. I know, he has to want to take care of himself, but we are talking support. Watching her pour a glass of wine for him as they get into their transportation in Rio and hand it to him is not supporting the health and well-being of an alcoholic, that’s called enabling. And considering that she almost always has a glass of wine in her hand too, this is going to end badly. And that’s only in reference to the alcohol, we don’t even need to talk about his meth mouth.

      • Betti says:

^ both clearly have substance abuse issues – I recall there were rumours that she was a dabbler before they hooked up.

This is going to end in tears for one or both.

      • Liz says:

WTF you just summed this mess up perfectly. +1000

      • isabelle says:

He probably hooked up with her became she probably fully supports his addiction.

    • Illyra says:

Yeah, he really is a mess… to the point that it’s not actually funny anymore.

    • Finis says:

Speaking of cheekbones, did his get some help? He was looking much more puffy (bloated) a short time ago and now his cheekbones seem to be helping to minimize that look. Could be he just dropped some weight? Nah.

      • ahoyhoy says:

No, you’re right, and he dropped weight REALLY fast. He’s still a little thick around the middle here, but he lost all the puffiness. So fast it makes me fear chemical ‘helpers’.

  6. QQ says:

Sorry but when they did the E carpet it was Cringe cringe cringe, he looked loaded pasty and clammy and Joe Looked to be on something too, Alice Cooper hand to God was the only sober one or at least able to string sentences together

    • noway says:

When Alice Cooper is the only one able to string coherent sentences together you know you have a problem! The man is just known for angry phrases. I think Johnny’s midlife crisis has developed into something else. Most of us get to just go through our midlife crisis in private and hopefully pull out of it. His is so in public view, and I think he has turned to other avenues to face the issue. Hope he pulls out of it, as I like him as an actor.

    • Wren says:

Alice Cooper has been sober for a fairly long time, I believe. So it’s not surprising that he is able to speak properly and not sound like a rambling idiot. Depp, well, he has problems and it’s becoming increasingly obvious.

      • saras says:

Yes you are right about Alice and he is very vocal about his long recovery for sobriety. I hope he sets an example. Depp idolized people like Hunter S. Thomson. Thats why he has that gonzo tag hanging down. Hunter killed himself but was one of the hardest partying people of all time prior to shooting himself. If thats his hero I expect him to die of a similar suicide or od…

      • tealily says:

I was thinking the same thing. They are an odd grouping, for sure.

      • Blackcat says:

Check our Alice Cooper’s body language in the photo–says it all to me.

Years ago, I heard Cooper interviewed, I think it was Fresh Air, and I was surprisingly impressed with him. Now that he’s sober it seems to be doing well.

    • NorthernGirl_20 says:

Alice Cooper has been sober for over 30 years. He’s extremely intelligent and a scratch golfer.

  7. Elsa says:

At least he finally got to do what he loves. That’s something.

  8. michelleb says:

He just makes me cringe nowdays.

  9. OutstandingWorldCitizen says:

The Hollywood Vampires looked and sounded like a rickety bucket of old garbage.

Did you all notice there were no close ups of Johnny Depp? As if there was some edict to not allow us to see how bloated he looks. Damn JD. Arrgh. I feel so bad for him.

  10. CornyBlue says:

Why do you stay with this thing for being the fourth lead in films like Danish Girl, Amber ?

  11. Mrs. Darcy says:

The thing is, Johnny in his heart is a rock musician. He started out in a punk band and got scouted in L.A. because he was so dang pretty. There’s a reason people like Oasis and Ryan Adams ask him to play guitar solos, for which he rarely takes credit. SO I can’t smack talk his middle aged scarf-ness here, I’m sure he was sincerely paying tribute to Lemmy. He doesn’t seem drunk to me in that clip either, I might worry more if he was playing with Keith but Alice Cooper as far as I know is sober, not sure about the other dude.

  12. Meee says:

Amber looks like that one annoyed friend who always has to take care of her drunk a** boyfriend.

  13. Deanne says:

I used to think he was the most beautiful man alive. Now, not so mch. Mid-life crisis or not, he looks loaded and really unhealthy. I guess being married to a woman young enough to be your daughter, isn’t the fantasy most men imagine it is, She looks like she’s completely over it. He’s a mess and it makes me sad.

  14. Karen says:

Since his epic mid life crisis started, he’s gone so far down hill. Is it no more Vanessa and kids for motivation? What triggers this 180°, because it’s got to be more than mid-life clichés.

Dirty. Bloated. He looks contagious and I’m not even sure one can look contagious, but he’s accomplished that.

  15. Cucumber says:

I have a theory about him.

I think that he’s naturally shy and does not have a strong personal identity. In order to perform- including red carpets, etc.- he HAS to be acting.

If you look back through his red carpets he has always theme dressed. Not full on costumes per se but as if he were wearing red carpet clothing chosen by whatever character he was playing in whatever he’s promoting.

For this red carpet he’s playing an aged, drunk rocker. That’s his character.

And when he doesn’t have a character to play- when he’s appearing just as Johnny Depp with no character to promote- maybe he gets drunk as a defense. Because “Johnny Depp” is just an extremely insecure actor who needs a character to hide behind.

The problem is that he’s either been playing drunk characters or no characters for too long, hence the constant being/ seeming drunk…

But he looks better and less bloated than usual, so there’s that.

    • Betti says:

I agree to a point about him being shy, he’s never really been comfortable giving interviews but he’s an actor and its part of the job. Many actors ‘perform’ in interviews. He’s always been a party animal but he’s a man who has demons, demons that he runs away from. It’s sad to see such a talented and nice guy on this road to self destruction, perhaps if he had stuck to music he would have been a bit happier. It seems to b where his heart is.

      • Cucumber says:

I agree with you, it does seem to be what he loves most. But I wonder if he could have stuck to music. I heard an interview with a musician (whose name unfortunately escapes me) who had been a TV show host and she told the interviewer that she had terrible stage fright performing her own stuff but none when she was acting. It was all about the difference between putting your personal feelings/ thoughts/ creations out there as opposed to playing a part.

If my pet theory is accurate, that might be why he focused on acting, not music.

It is sad either way though.

      • Ankhel says:

I’ve known enough rock artists to know that if a person has the SLIGHTEST inclination to drink or do drugs often, because they love it or aren’t afraid of it, well, the rock scene is the last place they should be. Everybody drinks, everybody buys you drinks, there’s no pressure to get up early in the morning, no separation between weekend and workdays. I truly believe that if Depp had lived that life, rather than the more structured existence of a hardworking actor, he’d be dead already.

    • Ennie says:

being rich does not help, either. Yes, men, and indulging ahoy.

  16. Green Is Good says:

Any video of the Vampires performance?

  17. FingerBinger says:

Johnny Depp ,Alice Cooper and Joe Perry? One of these things doesn’t belong here.

  18. Arock says:

The most amusing part of Johnny Scarves is the boozy-liza Doolittle-Australian-sex pistoly-Elizabethan-pirate accent he’s cut and pasted together for himself. “Aw Rawighty, love. Ye have to hold yer rum barrels til the fooking albums released, bloody ‘Ell, matey. God save yer queen, righto. Ta….”. Jaysus…

  19. Savina says:

Kaiser, on a morning where everything went wrong you managed to make me laugh: the vampires walked the red carpet. Hilarious.

And poor Amber is probably wondering what the heck she got herself into with Depp.

  20. KAI says:

A midlife crisis very often includes substance abuse. In my opinion it is depression, exacerbated by hormone fluctuations and unresolved childhood trauma.

Men very often externalize depression (covert depression) and act out via substance abuse, infidelity, anger towards former loved ones, extravagant spending, etc.

  21. meme says:

    This is tragic.

  22. The New Classic says:

    Holy mid life crisis Batman!!

  23. Elsa says:

I think that some comments are kinda unfair towards Johnny. Like it or not that’s who he is and always was. When he suits and cleans up for movie red carpets and festivals he’s just not himself and that’s why he is so shy.But when he’s on stage playing he’s finally in his element and that makes him more confident. His passion for music was always the same whether he was 12 or 52.He only does movies for money and for having fun nowadays and not because cinema is his passion, like Dicaprio . Johnny is a musician at heart and he always was. Now he has the time and money to live the way he want so more power to him. He looked so happy on stage and I don’t think he was drunk. He was just enjoying himself to the fullest. On another note I hate those glasses he wears here but other than that I can’t hate on someone for living their dream cause that’s what I want for myself too, to do what I love when I’m 50 years old. As for him and Amber, well they always are akward when posing. I prefer candid photos of them or non posed photos in general. Him being in a band and playing music has nothing to do with midlife crisis. That’s who he always was and he got the opportunity to show it the last few years. Too much judgement here.

    • psi says:

Candid photos of Johnny and Amber? Lol

      • SilkyP says:

‘Johnny is a musician at heart and he always was.’ That might be true, but apparently he was not talented enough to make it in the music world. In other words, he is no Joe Perry. Acting is what made him rich and famous, and that same money and fame now make it possible for him to be on stage as a musician with the likes of Perry and Cooper. Good for him that he does what he likes, but no need to pretend that he has been an unacknowledged musical genius all these years.

  24. Malificent says:

Do not go gentle into that good night,
    Old age should booze and scarve at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

  25. kri says:

Oh dear. He looks like he lives in an alley behind the Viper Room. Or at least he’s going to. Amber is only in it for the pirate booty.

  26. Sarah01 says:

    This is so not cool.
Depp has just lost all of it, some guys look better with age but it’s like his hotness has been sucked out of him by a dementor.

  27. wolfie says:

Is he wearing eye liner? – it looks awful – like he’s still playing a pirate.

  28. Micki says:

Alice Cooper forever! I don’t care about Johnny’s scarves. He might as well be on Mars at this point.

  29. AlmondJoy says:

He looks like he stinks 😩 What happened to you, Johnny?

  30. Bam says:

I only see one scarf, how’s he covered in scarves?

  31. Skins says:

Joe Perry looks like he is shrinking or something

  32. My Two Cents says:

Only thing that comes to mind is Def Lepard song lyrics which say “it’s better to burn out than fade away”. Depp and Amber look coked up in the eyes, to me anyway.

  33. Tig says:

It always cracks me up that Alice Cooper has turned into a pretty competent amateur golfer. Seems like there was an interview somewhere where he credited taking up golf with helping with his sobriety- takes a long time, have to focus, fresh air, etc. Johnny Depp has reverted to his earlier days it seems. Whatever he found with Vanessa P and France, I hope he finds it again. I saw they were running ads for Through the Looking Glass- that’ll be an interesting press tour.

  34. Mich says:

If his teeth are any indication, his insides are a mess.

Get help, Johnny. We would like to have you with us for a while longer.

  35. alyssa says:

Reading. Some of these comments make me sick, people get old whats new, no need to bash on him, i still think hes great :))

    • WTF says:

Not all of us are bashing on him. We are pointing out things that are not typical aging changes, but appear to be more rooted in some form of substance abuse, whether alcohol or meth or coke or heroin, whatever he’s using. He may also have health issues because of his age, the using will only hurt that. Most of the folks here don’t seem to be bashing him so much, as they are expressing concern for him. People who are paying attention are recognizing the signs and we know we’ve seen those signs in others we have lost. Everyone just has different ways of communicating it.

  36. noelle says:

This is all meek mills fault

  37. Magpie says:

Stop the “poor Amber” comments. She’s an adult and WANTED this. She always looks high as a kite anyway. I think he’s trying to keep up with her.

  38. Zaytabogota says:

His ex got him in his prime. Now he’s too old to be playing rebel, that’s long out of fashion anyway and his teeth are disgusting, how can Amber let that diseased, rotted mouth near her. I heard meth rumours????

  39. serena says:

I also think that’s his personality and lots of booze, of course. You can’t take scarves and all away from Depp.

    • Liz says:

If he sobers up, sees to his health, his teeth and gets a hair cut I’ll give him a pass to wear whatever the hell he wants! Hell, he can even keep the terrible hair! Right now it just seems like he won’t live another 5 years and that’s sad. He has kids.

  40. Emily C. says:

Too much money and too little accountability. It was inevitable. I don’t feel sorry for him any more than I do for Kanye West or Ben Affleck. It would be nice if we fixed the system so that this happened to fewer people, though. As a “side” benefit (actually far more important), how many schools could the money Depp paid for that private island have funded?

    • Bam says:

Depp can do whatever he wants with his money, but he’s involved with many charities, visits sick children’s hospitals, etc. He is a very nice guy who GIVES to people, you can’t compare him to Kanye West or Ben Affleck..

  41. Moi says:

My only hope is that he is happy. He is family…always….

  42. LouLou says:

These photos make me sad. He used to be so awesome. I’ve been less interested in him since he turned into a pirate-for-hire for eternity, but I’m sure he can still act. I didn’t see that Whitey Bulger movie, but I want to in case it reminds me of how great he can be. Maybe he’s happy, but he doesn’t look happy.

  43. NeoCleo says:

Oh, Johnny. You’ll always be in my top 10 for all your years of hotness, but I hardly know ye today.

  44. TWstudio says:

Wow, here he looks like one of his dead-eyed animatronics in Disneyland.
