Caitlyn Jenner: ‘Democrats, as far as trans issues, are better’ than the GOP

Last year, Caitlyn Jenner dropped a piece of news that surprised some people: she would be open to dating men. Caitlyn – as Bruce – was married three times, always to women, and I believe all of the ex-wives have said that their marriages always included a full and fulfilling sex life. Kris Jenner in particular always said that Bruce fulfilled her sexually. Which is why Caitlyn’s revelation is shocking to some people, because Caitlyn-as-Bruce always “seemed” to be a cisgender heterosexual, a man who loved women. And now Caitlyn is a transgender woman who wants to date men.

Well, the second season of I Am Cait is coming out soon, and Caitlyn has been doing promotional work for it. In one of the first clips from the second season, Caitlyn said: “To be honest, if I was in a relationship with a guy, I would enjoy being treated like that. Opening doors for you, doing all what you would think is the traditional stuff in a guy and a girl relationship. It would have to be a very special guy to be able to do that, but yeah, I would be open to that.” Then Cait appeared on the Today Show yesterday and she said the same thing:

Whether she’s open to dating men: “I know people are always interested in that. I get that. For me, it is probably less of an issue than it is for everybody else. Right now, I am just so busy kind of doing what I’m doing, but it would be nice to kind of share your life with somebody. I honestly don’t know where that’s going. But hey, I’m open, you know. I’m open.”

[From Today]

My feeling is basically “whatever makes her happy,” although I think this – more than Caitlyn’s transition – will probably cause Cait’s ex-wives to reevaluate their marriages and everything else. I believe Caitlyn when she talks about how she always knew that she was a woman. But did she also know the whole time that she wanted to date men? Or did Caitlyn always identify as bisexual? Or is everything more fluid and label-less than that?

Caitlyn also talked politics with Today, saying: “The politics was tough on the bus. I sit on the Republican side, and when we do get a candidate, I certainly will talk to them. I admit that the Democrats, as far as trans issues, are better than the Republicans.” Shock of all shocks.

You mean to tell me that Democrats are more socially progressive then the Republicans?! Call me surprised. Eyeroll😬

    • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

      Color me stunned.

    • Lahdidahbaby says:

…and seriously? What a jackass Caitlin is: She can acknowledge that the Dems are more tolerant of her single issue than are her own GOPs–but she REMAINS a Republican. She doesn’t seem to have the capacity to extend that singular, self-referential thought to ALL THE OTHER social issues that affect ALL humans in this country. It’s just a simple progression from the trans issue to ALL human issues, but Caitlin has always–even as Bruce–been a singularly self-involved person. One thing the trans process did NOT bring her was compassion. She seems to reserve that emotion for herself.

In other news, for wetness, water is better than sand.

In other news, water is wet.

I’m not trying to label her but from what she is describing it sounds like less an attraction to men and more a gratification and aspiration to be desired by men.

  5. meme says:

I can’t with this one. Caitlyn can’t figure out what she wants. She’ll be a democrat shortly because well, we all know, only evil people are republicans (dripping with sarcasm)

  6. word says:

Her new season is starting soon, so it’ll be nothing but Caitlyn for the next while.

My real question is; will she be first to dump her party or will her party be first to dump her? It sounds to me like she is starting to get a taste of what the those who are not shielded under the umbrella of white, male privilege take mouthfuls of everyday.

Nothing like a spoonful of your own medicine to cure what ails you.

  8. Ks says:

Not an expert here, obviously, but I’ve watched a few documentaries, and I worked one trans man. The man I knew was a lesbian woman, who transitioned to a man and became a gay man. A similar journey was described in a doc I watched years ago; a gay woman transitioned to a gay man. It makes me think sexuality is fixed in the sense that you are attracted to the opposite sex or the same sex, no matter what sex you are or become. I’d love to read more about that aspect of transitioning.

    • Miran says:

Not necessarily, i think it depends largely on the person. I have a cousin who is female to male trans and has been with the same woman since before he transitioned. His sexual orientation didnt change with his gender. He doesnt identify as straight now that he is a male married to a female. He self identifies as queer.

Caitlyn Jenner for so many reasons confuses me.

I just wonder if she is more of a product of how society views men and women ie limiting what either gender can do.

It must be terrible to be born in the wrong gender.

I just find Caitlyn only address the superficial aspects of being a woman because what really makes a woman isn’t something you can gain but lived.

    But what do I know.

Rats, all of the good comments are taken! I guffawed when I read this. I just read a comment on another post where a white guy said something like, ‘human nature is what it is, Trump is letting people be what they naturally want to be. Deal with it.’ WTF??? A white male thinks that going back to Civil War times in a Trump World is A-OK? Colour me shocked!
The current state of the Republican party is a national embarrassment.

It pisses me off when people don’t even consider how a political issue affects members of society until it affects them. But better late than never, I guess. (See: Kim’s essay about how horrible racism is written after she married a Black man and had a child with him.)

  12. K says:

The first trans person I ever knew was a woman who, before she transitioned, had been married and quite happily at that, and she expected that she’d always be a lesbian… but she found that once she started hormones, suddenly she started becoming attracted to men! I think she’s married to a bloke now. So it definitely happens! Sexuality is so wibbly-wobbly anyway, much moreso than gender identity.

  13. Asdf says:

Ppl get on her so much about this. So what she is a republican and gasp she might not like all of their stance on the lgbt community. God forbid that someone agree with both sides and be more of a moderate ahhhh the horrorrrr

  14. clark says:

It’s not unheard of that transgender individuals continue to have the same sexual orientation they had before they transition. In other words is possible that Caitlyn is simply a straight women, much in the same way that Bruce was a straight man. Orientation seems to be coded as same sex or opposite sex attraction.
As far as the party affiliation, it seems to me that it’s inevitable that the GOP will continue to alienate more and more people as they keep making their holy trek to the extreme right.

  15. Miran says:

That seems to be a big duh there.

  16. Kyre says:

As the partner of a trans person, sexual attraction can (not always, of course) shift when a trans person chooses hormonal therapy. I say that to highlight that no matter Caitlyn’s sexual preference prior to her transition, it may change, evolve or grow in part because of hormones, in part because she may be experiencing flirtations from men she didn’t experience before and of course simply choice. Hugs!

  17. Sweet&LowDown says:

I’m a supporter of gay & transgendered community wholeheartedly. However, there is something so inauthentic about Caitlyn Jenner. Her whole act is bogus in my opinion. I truly believe she is just playing trans for pay and media attention. And what a shame. Can’t the media come up with some other authentic and deserving role model for the transgender community? She is as empty as the rest of the black widows in that coven of witches. Do better media! We are tired of this entire family.
