Prince Harry & the Cambridges launch a mental health program, Heads Together

kate2

Prince Harry has been the royal patron for the London Marathon for years. The London Marathon was held this weekend, and Harry was on hand, as he is every year. But the Cambridges couldn’t let him have a solo moment! They couldn’t have #HonksForHarry become an even bigger deal. So they just had to announce a partnership on the same day as the London Marathon. William, Kate and Harry are “spearheading a new campaign to end stigma around mental health” called Heads Together. Several of the runners at the London Marathon were running for charities associated with the Cambridges and Harry, like Place2Be and MIND, and the 2017 London Marathon’s “charity of the year” will be Heads Together, this new thing that the royals are doing.

It sounds like Heads Together will be an umbrella advocacy organization that works to shine the light on various mental health charities and organizations, and the KP Twitter tweeted: “@Heads_Together will work with inspiring mental health charities and be supported by #RoyalFoundation.” So that’s why we have new photos of Will and Kate. There’s a video too – you can skip ahead to the 1-minute mark to see Will, Kate and Harry speaking, and the last bit as they’re trying to keep straight faces is really cute/funny.

I’m also including photos of Harry at the London Marathon on Sunday. He looked lovely, and can I just say? I’m glad he’s sticking with the beard. He also looks like he’s lost some weight.

Kate really comes to life when she’s the center of attention between Harry and William.
I wonder what her attitude will be when Harry will have his own lady?

    • Kate says:

I don’t think she will handle it well. She always looks most alive when beside Harry. Honestly, William does too. I don think it’s a weird love triangle thing; I just think that Harry is so comfortable in his own skin that he puts them at ease as well.

      • Maum says:

Yes. He comes across as spontaneous and naturally fun and gregarious. People seem to respond to him.

      • Anett says:

I agree Kate about Harry and his effect on these two. Harry inherited his Mum charm and charisma.

      • Vava says:

My husband has that same gregarious charm that Harry has. You can put people like that in any situation and they will function perfectly. I can see why William and Kate are happy to be around Harry. They are lucky to have him there to SAVE THEIR BACON, because they (William especially) generally suck.

    • Jib says:

Someone on the DM mentioned that she has the hots for him and I agreed – look how she looks at him! I don’t think Kate does well with competing women.

And did you see the pics where Harry helped an 86 year old female former Olympian up after she fell! He jumped right in and handled it with grace – I’m glad someone got Diana’s empathy!

      • spidey says:

You should know not to believe everything you read in the DM it isn’t called the Daily Fail for nothing.

      • notasugarhere says:

spidey, she’s commenting on someone else’s comment not an article written by someone employed at the DM.

We can see the photos and videos for ourselves. Her body language around her brother-in-law (and Ainsley and others) is *interesting*.

      • als says:

I don’t think she has feelings for him, I think it is her famous need to be cared for that we see in these pics.
She looks comfortable and happy when she feels protected and looked after. I imagine this is why she does so little work and why she has become even more isolated, because on her own there’s no one to look after her and make her laugh.
Of course, we all have similar needs but most of us manage them better.

      • Murphy says:

She does flirt with him, its very inappropriate. He’s a handsome man who is polite to her while her husband treats her like dirt-I can’t say I blame her. Wait yes I can, she’s awful.

      • Jib says:

Yes, spidey, I was commenting on a comment – we all have eyes, look at the pics yourself. I don’t think she wants him or anything, but I do think she loves to be the center of attention and admired, even if it’s her husband’s brother.

  2. Kate says:

    more Harry!!

    • Vava says:

      Harry is the best!

    • Anett says:

      I agree:-)

    • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

      Honk!

    • Esmom says:

      Yes!

    • Original T.C. says:

Here for Harry! Good on him for always being reliable and keeping his comittments to his charities. Maybe he will rub off on the do-littles as they try to compete/fight for the limelight instead of just doing photo-ops. Noticed he is always the one to get a laugh out of his grumpy big brother instead of the other way around.

Honking for happy to help Harry-our ginger Prince.

    • Snazzy says:

      Honking for Harry!!

    • Cricket says:

HONK HONK HONK HONKITY HONK HONK HONK for Harry!!!!!

Can’t wait for Invictus!!! Hope we have daily updates and lots of fun photos to look forward too! His love and dedication for this event and the soldiers is very genuine.

    • Poisonous Lookalike says:

      Honking for Harry!!

    • Vava says:

Harry looked great today at the early morning memorial service. That coat he had on . Overall though, he’s just a likeable guy and I’m impressed with him, how he’s turned things around in recent years. GO HARRY.

      • Bella says:

What is the excuse y’all make for Harry’s a appallingly low official engagement count? I know it’s something to do with being the Cambridges’ fault but can’t recall the exact reasoning.

    • Rae says:

      Yes, yes and yes.

  3. MinnFinn says:

I thought ‘Mental Health Matters’ or maybe it was “Young Minds Matter’ was their thing that was for juvenile mental health. This PSA was peppy and upbeat and so very different than Kate’s other taped PSAs.

    • Betti says:

Its cause Harry was there – she becomes very flirty when he’s around.

      • Luna says:

        they are using harry

      • Cricket says:

Luna – totally agree about them using Harry.. but their use is so obvious and can’t be disguised.. gives us more of the Hot Ginger Biscuit! It will be a very interesting dynamic when Harry gets a wife.

      • Ravine says:

No one is “using” Harry. This campaign is a product of their joint foundation, The Royal Foundation of The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry.

  4. LAK says:

Aging is a natural process, and we can’t help our genetics, but my goodness William’s aging is shocking.

    • Betti says:

Its the stress of being a working father with a hectic whirl schedule!

      • LAK says:

Isn’t ‘Hectic Whirl’ the name of our band?

      • notasugarhere says:

Or was that the name of the ship taking us to the island? I call it the HMS Wiglet (or some variation) because I don’t remember what name was eventually selected!

      • Charlotte15 says:

Betti you just provided me with a much-needed hysterical laugh!

      • bluhare says:

Hectic Whirl is the name of the band. Frisbee’s lead singer when she DEIGNS TO SHOW UP AROUND HERE!! And FLORC took the submarine when she left so not quite sure how we’re getting over there now.

      • notasugarhere says:

We’ll have to enlist Ainslie. He can borrow a yacht and we set sail.

      • JustVisiting says:

        Nota
        It was the wayfare wiglet.

      • Liberty says:

        Betti – LMAO!!

(Is this the same whirl that makes her skirts go up?)

And yeah they are totally using him. Drag out a baby! Drag out Harry!

Honk for Harry!! Grim silence for the other two and their “PR printed headbands for us” work ethic.

      • notasugarhere says:

Ah, thank you! HMS Wayfare Wiglet.

    • littlemissnaughty says:

I’m scared to p*ss off karma (if my Greek side wins, I won’t be aging all that well) but my god, have you looked at the engagement pics lately? It is quite a drastic change. Same with her (although let’s be fair, two pregnancies and lack of Photoshop in recent months may contribute to the appearance of her aging fast).

      • Charlotte15 says:

I have to be honest (and hope that no one here will take offense!) but I do wonder why William didn’t nip the balding in the bud years ago before it got this bad. With all of the resources he has available to him, he couldn’t get some Rogaine or whatnot?!

Some men look fabulous bald- this is in no way an insult to balding men in general. However, he is not one of them and it’s not as if he can’t afford some plugs or something.

      • bluhare says:

I agree with LAK below It’s not so much the hair (as I find some bald men pretty sexy); but his face has changed. He used to be so pretty.

    • Anett says:

Harry has better genetics for sure. For William, it must be hard to lose his hair so early.

      • LAK says:

It’s not just the hair. His entire face is different. Simultaneously heavy set like a typical male Spencer, crossed with the worst Mountbatten- Windsor strain.

The lack of hair isnt helping.

Compare with Mike Tindall, severely crooked nose, balding, and he still looks better than William.

      • Anett says:

Well, genes from what you described. Maybe, as someone pointed out, his hectic lifestyle doesn’t help too. People say Kate looks older just the same, maybe doing nothing makes you older and older.Lol

If he had more hair, believe me, he would look better.

      • notasugarhere says:

Mike is Alive with a capital A. William is like a waxwork. That makes a difference IMO.

      • Polly says:

William totally looks like the bloke in Wallace and Grommet – the shape of his face, his mouth. If I were Harry I’d be starting on some kind of hair replacement program now, because I’m not sure if he’ll fare much better when he’s bald.

    • Pepper says:

If you told me W&K were in their mid to late 40’s I’d believe you. It’s not just the actual aging process, though genetics have not blessed them, but everything about them. William comes off like the stereotypical staid, buttoned up, out of touch middle aged man, and Kate acts like a teenager, but everything else about her, from the terrible forced Hyacinth Bucket accent to the zebra stripes on her cheeks, screams of someone stuck in the early 80’s.

I do feel bad for their children. Between the Windsor genes and the Middleton genes those kids are going to look middle aged before they’re out of university.

      • Pixelated says:

I think y’all are being too picky with them and their physical looks. I honestly don’t really care how they’re aging as long as they A, dress appropriately for the situation (I’m looking at you, Kate) and B. Work like they mean it pour their souls into improving their country.
If W&K actually did these two things, there would be zero issues with them. Even if they were the ugliest people ever.

      • outhousecat says:

You made my day with the Hyacinth Bucket reference!! I love that show.

      • ClaireB says:

Honestly, I think if they were interested, caring, and dutiful, their appearances wouldn’t be criticized nearly as much. It’s the ugly shallowness in their souls shining through, I’m afraid.

      • Jib says:

I agree, Pixelated. Look at Princess Anne – not a beauty queen by any means, but much admired because she is a workhorse.

If these two lazy louts got out and did some meaningful work, I don’t think anyone would critique their looks so in a way, they can only blame themselves. When all you give the public is Barbie and Ken Cambridge, you can’t blame the public when they judge you on your appearance.

    • PHAKSI says:

Poor Kate, she started with a handsome prince and ended up with mr potato head.

    • Magnoliarose says:

I noticed it too. I can’t believe how different they look in 5 years. It’s accelerated aging and I’ve never seen it like this before.

  5. Maum says:

Kate has ONE line and she can’t even sound sincere. And she can’t stop twirling the curls long enough to pose for the photos.
Her body language around ‘the boys’ is interesting- it’s very teenage and immature considering she’s a woman in her 30s.

    • Betti says:

The hair twirling is too much – she really can’t leave the mop alone. Yes it is isn’t it – she’s always been a massive flirt and she’s doing it in the video but what do we expect she’s perpetual teenager.

    • Karen says:

^ I agree MAUM. She’s like a school girl. And she was still very stiff in her one line, trying to push the posh accent out.

    • Giddy says:

She is so dependent on having her hair to play with! At least in this clip we didn’t get her crotch clutching hands. I truly don’t understand that. Either she’s hanging on to her clutch for dear life, or her hands are linked. In some pictures it has appeared that she was holding on to her own hands so hard that her knuckles turned white.

      • AJ says:

I bet tightly clasping her hands/gripping her clutch is a strategy for keeping her hands out of her hair.

      • Wren says:

Honestly, the Queen poses like that too quite a bit. Except she makes it look natural and poised, instead of stiff and “I have no idea what to do with my hands”.

      • notasugarhere says:

HM often has her elbows bent, hands in loose fists, sometimes with the hands touching. This may stem from needing to keep her handbag from sliding off her arm, but it is a comfortable pose to hold for long periods.

    • The Original Mia says:

@Maum, ITA! As usual she & William look fake, but she is definitely overdoing it. It’s not that hard to pull a serious face, but dissolving into giggles is really silly. It wasn’t that funny.

I will say good on them for focusing on mental health and that I hope it does some good.

    • Hudson Girl says:

Wow. I just watched video and she is LITERALLY twirling her hair! I thought people were joking. Ha!

    • sequinedheart says:

I just can’t with her fake accent.

    • Magnoliarose says:

Sigh. Twirling and that accent just…sigh.

  6. sushi says:

Don’t know why, but can feel warm to WK. Harry on the other hand, honk

  7. Dena says:

    Good plug for mental health.

Now for the down and dirty. I propose a PR disaster rating scale. Feel free to change it around for accuracy & humor.

    Here it goes:
W/K @ events = fuc ’em; just feed the trolls; give them a few BS events & photos
1 Harry = we missed up; photo ops of just us won’t do
1 George = we really f*cked up; bait & switch
1 George + 1 Harry = Oh shit! Not only did we f*ck up but we really pissed some people off too. The Palace got us running kinda scared
1 Charlotte (as yet to be played) = we are in deep f*ckin doo-doo; this is beyond George.

That’s the PR disaster scale I’ve been building in my hand. Please feel free to rearrange it, re-word it or add to it😄.

    Have a good one!

    • notasugarhere says:

PR alert. One year birthday is coming up, expect “intimate family photos” taken during the Annie L photoshoot. Why not steal a professional photographer’s set-up, lighting, and design for your own snaps?

    • LAK says:

Whilst i agree with nearly every item as listed, i disagree about Charlotte. PGtips is the star capable of distracting the public. Where he fails, they are truly doomed.

Charlotte is not working her magic on the public. Think about it……

      1. Christmas card + Charlotte: public says,’ that’s a photoshop composite.’
      2. Family pics on picturesque snow covered mountains + Charlotte: public says,’ how dare you pretend to work when you are really on holiday.’
      3. Queen + g/grandchildren with Charlotte as the centre piece: public says,’isn’t little Mia Tindall cute!’

Next expected date to deploy Charlotte will be her birthday and or Trooping the colour. There are already whispers that she is showing up for TTC.

      • notasugarhere says:

Oh yes, Trooping. Will she be wearing an outfit from the upcoming tacky charity line? Or a copy of a Diana outfit from when she was a child?

      • bluhare says:

        “tacky charity line”?

      • Imqrious2 says:

It’s been confirmed that Charlotte will be at the Trooping of the Colors. Wonder how they will coordinate their colors lol

      • notasugarhere says:

I consider it tacky, bluhare. W&K using his mother’s memory and their daughter and pretending it counts as charity work. Diana tartan and something dedicated to Charlotte. They’ve allowed/commissioned someone to make children’s clothing with those themes and a small percentage of eventual profits will go to charity. To me, that’s tacky.

      • Kate says:

        @notasugarhere
I had to google this children’s cHrity collection. I agree. Tacky, especially since the prices range up to $205 for baby/children’s clothing. They rely so heavily on Diana to bolster their image. It’s creepy and weird.

  8. Karen says:

Keeping up with the Kambridges duo are so keen on mental health they need to bring the third wheel in do some actual work.

  9. LadyJane says:

    Honking for harry. HONK HONK

  10. Sixer says:

I really wish they would STAY AWAY from mental health.

    • Betti says:

Why? Its something that they are so ENERGISED about keeping the discussing going – they read lots and lots of scientific journals about it.

    • notasugarhere says:

MH isn’t the place for dilettantes and W&K are the walking definitions of them.

I sense the W&K hands, creating another umbrella organization to take credit for other people’s work (just like William’s wildlife one).

Harry creates his own (Invictus, Sentebale) or joins boots-on-the-ground on existing ones to promote them (WWTW).

      • Green Girl says:

Agreed, Not. While I think it’s great they are using their star power and influence to help raise awareness, this is a topic where you really can’t phone it in.

    • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Is that because you feel they don’t know what they are talking about, Sixer? I’m curious to know your reasons if you feel like sharing them.

    • Sixer says:

LOL Betti. I’m sure they’ll hit the ground running!

GNAT – basically, partly what NOTA said in that mental health is not a playpen for this pair of losers to pretend to commit to and then abandon in a fit of pique. And partly, what noises they’ve made so far have been ignorant and positively Dickensian: mental health among children and young adults is largely the fault of (poor) failing parents.

      • Who ARE these people? says:

Oh no, really, is that the message? That’s horrible! With their history of stepping in it, how could they pick such a sensitive area and then … step in it? This is a topic about which if you don’t do it right, you can do further harm.

      • Sixer says:

I’ve thrown tantrums about it on here before, the last time they did a flurry of pretending to care. Chutney’s thoughts on childhood mental ill health amounted to, “It didn’t happen to me because MY mummy loved me unlike those awful poor mummies, who are always neglecting their kids”.

      • Who ARE these people? says:

        “Gosh, how interesting.”

      • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Oh, dear, that’s too bad. I see your problem with it.

      • Magnoliarose says:

Yikes! You are of course right as usual. It’s dabbling in people’s lives in a very sensitive area. Not for someone like her at all.

    • bluhare says:

      Gosh, how interesting. 🙂

    • Llamas says:

Mental Illness is one of those things that can be extraordinarily difficult to understand if you haven’t had experience with it and if you want to make it your cause and you haven’t dealt with it you need to put in a lot of work so that you don’t come across as ignorant.

Unfortunately, Will and Kate Buchanan are ignorant and unempathetic, and have never experienced it. They should leave it to Harry.

      • Who ARE these people? says:

The thing is, he has experienced it through having a volatile mother. Jury’s out on whether Kate has some anxiety issues or is simply vacuous.

      • ladysussex says:

Unfortunately, I think both Will and Harry have experience with mental health issues. It’s well known that their mother was in psychotherapy since before her wedding. She was bulimic and most likely had borderline personality disorder. Everyone goes on and on about Princess Diana’s charm and caring, but she definitely had some very volatile behaviors. She grew up in a terrible situation, essentially abandoned by her mother. It wasn’t until she neared divorce that she hired her own PR team and started doing all her charities. It was largely an effort by her to spite her husband and be seen as the good and caring one.

      • bluhare says:

I don’t know a lot about the Spencer divorce, but I don’t think Diana’s mother abandoned them. She did not get custody of them; their father did partially based on testimony from her own mother.

      • LAK says:

Ladysussex: Diana’s mother didn’t voluntarily abandon her kids. They were taken from her because apparently if one parent is *titled, that automatically makes them a better parent.

*this was the primary reason Lady Ruth Fermoy sided against her own daughter in the custody hearings.

Secondly, long before Diana actually hired professional PR people, she was a master media manipulator. She was so good at it that it forced Charles to hire PR people. It’s the primary reason people sympathise with her over Charles even when they have her complete history.

Further, her attempts at hiring PR people always fell flat because she refused to listen to their advise and actively worked against them. Many quit as a result.

William believes he has his mother’s gift for PR, which isn’t true.

  11. mytake says:

Ending the stigma around mental health is long overdue and a great cause. It is, however, a touchy subject, with lots of potential pitfalls. I hope their game and messaging is on point. If not, it could get….cringy.

    • Esmom says:

Yes, hopefully they are prepared to handle it with sensitivity and intelligence.

    • bluerunning says:

I think their game and message is to be as vague as possible and “concerned” without really saying anything at all– case in point “We need to keep the conversation going!” Means what? What conversation, precisely? “We need to end the stigma!” How? How are we going to end the stigma? By keeping the conversation going? Might as well throw in a “Be kind to one another!” and “Give back to your community!” All wonderful thoughts, and wonderful things, but… really, where’s the substance?

    • Hazel says:

I don’t know about their messaging being on point. I watched that new video. There are runners, apparently preparing for next year’s London Marathon, presumably raising money for one of the many charities supported by the Royal foundation, with H’s special emphasis on soldiers, K’s on children, & W’s on suicide in men. I’m still unclear on the running part…or what W&K will actually be doing…H we know–Invictus Games next month!

  12. vauvert says:

Best PR move the Dolittles have made. They are aware that the ride has turned and people love Harry (with the exception of a few DM head cases) so, since they can’t throw him under the bus, they leaned on him to help out and do the dutiful spare heir thing, and launched this joint program. Anything that gets them going is a good thing, but I am afraid all they’ll do is ride Harry’s coat tails. He will do the work and they will show up occasionally for photo ops.

    • Betti says:

They’ve always rode on his coattails but yes am sure we’ll be seeing a lot more joint engagements.

      • notasugarhere says:

He is gritting his teeth through this one. I wouldn’t count on a lot of joint engagements, unless their PR continues diving.

Harry’s image will get another big boost with Invictus next month. I hope W&K don’t show up at the opening in the US and try to steal good PR.

I expect them to be prominent at one of the two big public events for the Queen’s Birthday, since he’ll still be in the US on May 12.

        Invictus May 8-12

Queen’s Birthday party at Windsor (and street parties) May 12 – 15

        Trooping June 4

      • Betti says:

I wouldn’t be surprised if they showed up at Invictus with the kids. Trooping is non negotiable – its a must attend event and we might get 20mins of their time for the Windsor parties.

      • bluerunning says:

I think W and K at Invictus is a guarantee- they can somehow parlay it into a vacation, I’m sure… so exhausted, you know.

      • Original T.C. says:

        @Notasugarhere:

Yes for sure the Do-littles will try to take over the Invictus game (and of course bring George the bruiser-who is the type of spirited kid we Americans love, LOL). However Flotus Michelle knows who has done the real work and will be a force in Harry’s corner.

She is about giving credit where credit is due and will not stand by passively as others try to take credit for Harry’s hard work. She is not being paid by the Firm to raise the Do-Little up while knocking Harry down. Their will be joint interviews with the press asking detailed questions and only Harry will have the answers.

      • notasugarhere says:

You think they’ll show up in Florida, take credit for Invictus, and demand to shut down Disney World so no one can see the nanny take their older child on the rides?

      • anne_000 says:

        @ notasugarehere

That’s what I thought too. They’re going on a ‘work’ visit to Disney World, because obviously Disney needs the global promotion and here comes W&K to do them a favor.

And of course, DW is going to have to close down the park to the public, because ‘working’ in privacy is the price hosts have to pay for the grace of having W&K’s presence, even though it was supposed to be in exchange for public promotion. That’s W&K’s M.O..

      • Reece says:

Nah, Will isn’t spending that kind of money. They’d have to drop a HMS Britannia load of cash, just for one park, to shut down Disney World…DLand not as much but then ALL of the LA paps would know and be there.

Plus neither of the kids are big enough to ride most of the rides. So def no chance of any photo recreations.

      • anne_000 says:

        @ Reece

William would expect others to pay or for Disney to absorb the cost for the privilege of him and his family being seen there.

Or maybe they can do that with Universal Studios in Orlando, because they seem to think of themselves as celebrities.

  13. Who ARE these people? says:

It’s all laudable but it might be good to bring on board someone expert in community relations/PR from the health field, particularly mental health, from now on. This is well beyond Jason’s skills, whose weaknesses were exposed during the India trip.

The language needs to become more specific so the public can learn exactly what they hope to accomplish and how. Fund-raising for existing charities? Fine: Say so. And saying they’ll work with “inspiring” mental-health charities … I shouldn’t pick because they may actually be slowly rolling out something that does some good, but that just sounds like the PR equivalent of using lots of exclamation points. Inspiring whom, to do what, and how? Did the writer actually mean “innovative” or “demonstrably effective” or something else?

Hoping we get more details soon, as well as more back story on why this is their choice. It doesn’t have to be “because people we love struggled” (though saying so would be the best and biggest stigma-buster), but expressing why they care about this would get beyond the empty slogans. And are they going to start using words like “schizophrenia” and “bipolar disorder” and “suicidal depression” at some point? Or is this about “stress?”

And hey Brits, has the NHS had to cut mental-health funding? Have you had to deal with the same kind of de-institutionalization that the US did starting with Reaganism? (IE did Thatcher follow suit?) Where are the gaps in your system?

The USA has obvious problems though at least more are being covered now and there is a parity law … and in Canada there is no parity law; in some areas mental health coverage can be almost nil under provincial insurance until someone reaches the crisis point. Private supplemental insurance covers, like, a handful of therapy sessions.

    • Sixer says:

We are supposed to have parity of esteem in principle but we do not have it in practice. Since 2010 funding for CAMHS (the children and adolescent mental health service under the NHS) has fallen by about 6% in real terms, and the funding leading up to 2010 was acknowledged by all to be insufficient.

They are not going to be using terms like schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. Nor are they going to be mentioning other mental health issues directly affecting young people such as, for example, eating disorders. This is because they’ve already told us that childhood mental ill health can be entirely sorted out via the Early Intervention method for failing families. (Nothing wrong with Early Intervention, but I think all of us who are not named Twit and Twat are aware that it addresses only one area of many with regards to childhood mental ill health).

In translation: they’re only talking about mental ill health in children in the very limited part of the spectrum that means we can blame poor people for being poor.

      • Who ARE these people? says:

Was afraid of this. All of it. And this could really blow up in their faces, couldn’t it … let alone all the suffering people who could feel disappointed, used, even betrayed. And what is their motivation? As an utter outsider I might think it’s another indirect message from William about his mother and that Kate wants to do something-something about children so why not.

      • NUTBALLS says:

Agree that the likelihood that they’ll be giving good answers to the complex problems of mental health are unlikely based on what they’ve said so far.

Sixer, do visit DUC’s thread once more… I have questions for you, love.

    • Charlotte15 says:

@ Who Are These People: agreed, and I think that is what most sane people would do in this situation. However William is so unbelievably arrogant that I don’t think he thinks he needs help from anyone nor would he listen if Jason did bring an expert on board.

He’s really a piece of work. What a disappointment William turned out to be.

      • Who ARE these people? says:

Shudder. People in the grip of mental illness are so vulnerable … a ham-handed approach could do real harm.

    • bluhare says:

I totally agree with you. It’s all well and good to “bring attention”, but what attention and where?

      • hogtowngooner says:

Exactly! It’s like “raising awareness” of something basically everyone is already aware of! For many the “charity” stops there and they pat themselves on the back. When in reality, raising awareness is the FIRST step in a charitable cause.

In Canada, one of the major telecom companies sponsors a day based around Mental Health. They will donate a portion (!) of money they get from your text messages to mental health initiatives. You have to dig around on their website to find out specifically what those are, but you better believe they plaster “ending stigma” and “raising awareness” all over EVERYTHING that company owns. You’d think being a telecom company that owns practically all the phone lines in the country (back when they were the only game in town) that they’d provide free service to a mental health hotline (staffed by professionals, not pretty-but-unqualified celebs). But no, empty slogans are so much easier to market.

Oh and did I mention that it owns a TON of news stations, so practically the ENTIRE morning, noon and evening newscasts are overtaken by their “charitable initiative”? It just feels like they’re using mental health – a real problem that affects nearly everyone in some way – to promote themselves.

    • bluerunning says:

WhoARE- “empty slogans” about sums it up…. ugh. Like you, I’ll be interested to see where they go from here or if it’s just t-shirts, bumper stickers, and the occasional promo video

  14. Nicky says:

Did you also see when the lady fell during the presentation of the medals? Harry rushed to help her and held her hand to escort her. He is such a lovely person and a gentleman.

    • TeamAwesome says:

I feel like William’s initial reaction would be to laugh, not to help her up.

      • Charlotte15 says:

@Team Awesome, I believe that too, and how sad is that?! My expectations of William are so low at this point that I literally would not be surprised if pointing and laughing was his reaction – no WAY would he instinctively leap into action like his brother did in that situation.

    • ClaireB says:

The army really did teach Harry more about the “service” part of the royal life than William has learned. But William seems to be the kind of mule-headed person who needs to be hit in the head with a fence-post before anything penetrates, and we all know that would never have happened during his formative years.

  15. TeamAwesome says:

    Honk!For!Harry!!!!!

The Cambridges need to be on the receiving end of a campaign for mental health, not in charge of one.

What a great little brother, though, and loyal employee to Queen Gran to boot.

    • Charlotte15 says:

“The Cambridges need to be on the receiving end of a campaign for mental health, not in charge of one.”

      Truer words…

      • Who ARE these people? says:

Seriously. As she gets thinner and thinner and he gets more and more petulant…

    • anne_000 says:

I agree. They’re not the people who should be promoting awareness for mental health when they have such public issues of their own that they won’t acknowledge or that they accept as normal, when it isn’t, or that they use as convenient excuses whenever they don’t want to have any responsibilities as adults.

Now if they should go into long-term therapy and use it as a personal example of how treatment should be acceptable in society as a whole and how issues should be acknowledged and treatment sought, then I can see how they’re personally involved. But two mixed-up people (especially one who basically said there’s nothing wrong with her because she had a good upbringing and that’s all that it takes) who keep proving they’re so far removed from truth and reality taking on mental health issues?

  16. olivia says:

Yes, Prince Harry is seen to be the “fun” Prince. But he is so far down the line of Succession that he will never be King. If he was in Prince William’s position, it might be a very different story.

    • notasugarhere says:

He is seen as the one with both his parents compassion and their work ethic. His ability to put people at ease, and willingness to play along with the press during engagements, means he’s better at doing this part of the job.

As for the charity part? Well, he has W&K beat there too.

They have the same personalities they’ve had since they were kids, which isn’t related to which is closer to the throne. William the reluctant, bullying, spoiled child. Harry game to try anything and do the work. The fact that William-as-firstborn was protected while Harry wasn’t? That merely helped develop the characters and characteristics that were already there.

    • Deedee says:

He’s the one with the undefined role who’s had to figure out his life for himself. You would think he would be drifting from part-time job to part-time job and showing pouty behavior as the one who didn’t get to be the heir by accident of birth order, but he’s not. No, the older brother, who has had every advantage and a role well-defined (whatever being a full-time royal is, LOL) is the one that can’t stay focused.

    • Original T.C. says:

Really? So overnight Harry will turn into a do-nothing grouch who only shows up for photo-ops and doesn’t keep up his charity comittments, delays becoming a complete adult by taking up fake “jobs” that he only shows up for 50% of the time? Interesting.

So why is it that Diana, Charles, the young Queen Elizabeth were all able at Willimans age to step up and perform their duties while still keeping a smile on their faces? And when will Wills “with the weight of the British Empire on his shoulders apparently” be able to reach Harry’s level, age 40, 50, 55?

    • bluhare says:

The “fun” prince was up before dawn today to participate in the ANZAC service in London.

      • TeamAwesome says:

How gorgeous is Harry in his long coat with the medals? That, my dear Duchess, is how you lay a wreath.

    • anne_000 says:

It’s probably going to be another 25-30 years before William becomes King. He’ll be in his late 50s, early 60s.

He might as well be far down in the line of succession when it’s that long into the future…. so there’s no excuse for him not to step up and at least pretend to be a responsible grown-up in the mean time.

  17. Citresse says:

The short video was like a preview of a Simon Pegg film. And I see Kate’s back in her casual uniform of striped shirt and skinny pants.

    • Vava says:

………….and her wedges. She has to elevate herself when she’s with the guys. LOL. Sneakers would have been better.

  18. Charlotte15 says:

They (particularly William) must be so livid and baffled as to why the tour was so poorly received and why their coverage is so much better when Harry is involved. I can see William really have temper tantrums about this in private.
And as usual he will probably take his pissiness out ON Harry instead of being grateful. D-bag!

  19. PHAKSI says:

Honk for Harry! Honk for the beard! Honk for gingers! Honk for Harry’s broad shoulders! Honk for Harry helping the lady who tripped!

  20. zappy says:

the Dolittles remind me of little kids mentality. easily bored with their toys and curious with other’s toy, snatch it and get bored eventually…
why they cant focus on to something and stick with it ??

  21. Tiffany says:

I am shocked that Doolittle put on the headband. Wonder what she was offered to make that happen.

  22. anne_000 says:

How come, after going through the effort of promoting themselves…er their charities, W&K didn’t show up at the Marathon to thank the charity runners and their (the charities’) supporters?

So W&K’s PR team got another work event out of them by coat-tailing on Harry’s work. They must have promised Kate that she’ll get to touch Harry and wear that striped blouse and blue pants that she thinks guys like Sir Ben likes. And then they must have told William that grandma is going to sign another year of the helicopter lease if he does this one little thing.

  23. India says:

The Potato Head Catherine would hump Harry any chance she could get. She’s like a dog in heat around him.

    • bluhare says:

You say that like it’s a bad thing.

But still. Pretty awful thing to say.

      • anne_000 says:

But she keeps giving off the visual that the statement is true. She needs to learn how to interact with men without it being a flirtatious manner, especially when it comes to family members.

      • bluhare says:

Like a dog in heat? No, she does not. I did not give my full opinion of India’s comment as it would not have been published.

Look, I think they are totally up for some well deserted criticism. But there’s criticism and then there’s that.

    • Ravine says:

Her smiling and laughing is no different from William’s in this video — is William flirting with Harry too? Get a grip. Smiling and laughing near a man is not automatically being ‘flirtatious’. Responding agreeably to a man’s words/jokes is not ‘flirting’. She’s allowed to be relaxed and in a good mood around men who are not her husband. Her so-called ‘flirting’ is all in your heads.

  24. OctoberSong says:

I’m only here for Harry. I genuinely cannot stand the sight of William, and the always so damn smug face of Kate. The two of them irk my soul. And yes, her behaviour around Harry is ridiculous. If she behaves like this with Harry in public….I’m dying to know what she’s like behind closed doors.

Although it will never come out publicly, she absolutely will make a pass or play for him in the future. In a “time of need” she will try to end up in this bed, trust me. Also, she will NOT take it well or be nice to whoever he ends up marrying. God help the future Mrs. Harry. She’s going to have a tough time with Kate.

I wish Harry didn’t do any engagements with them so I could avoid WillNot and Kannot altogether.

    • Joannie says:

What on earth are you talking about? What behaviour around Harry? Quite the imaginations on here! The personal attacks are so silly. People say they don’t work and when they are people cut them down. They can’t win. These threads are vile.

      • notasugarhere says:

        “These threads are vile.”

And yet you are still here.

Many people see her flirtatious behavior in the photos and videos of her with her brother-in-law (or other random attractive men like Ainslie).

      • ClaireB says:

If you find these threads so vile, why do you keep coming back and reading them?

In pictures, Kate usually does seem more cheerful around Harry, but it’s pure speculation that she’d make some kind of play. I’d be more subdued around dour William, too, and probably perk up if someone with a lighter outlook was around for an hour or two.

      • bluhare says:

There are some comments in these threads that *are* vile. Criticise them for things they can do something about not insults about looks, or in this case wildly imaginative fantasies about Kate schtupping Harry’s leg like a dog in heat.

And I’m still here because in amongst it there are some good conversations. To answer the question before you ask.

      • Joannie says:

I’m no expert in mental health but they’re lending their support to a good cause. I can’t find fault. Every little bit helps.
Harry is losing his hair too. It’ll be interesting to see if his popularity declines. Looks aren’t everything and I’m guessing some of you are no beauty queens yourself.

      • hmmm says:

        @Joannie,

So, what have you learned about mental health from the Cambridges? How would you actively help someone knowing what you know now from them?

      • notasugarhere says:

Joannie, KM is the one who puts the emphasis on how she looks and what she wears. If she tied her bloody hair back like a professional, weighted her skirts, and stopped buying new clothes, the focus would move to the work.

Except of course, there is barely any work so Must Go Shopping For New Clothes to Distract Again.

    • Bella says:

I think getting naked and plastered in Vegas, and photographed in the act, is pretty inappropriate behaviour.

      • notasugarhere says:

        Inappropriate?

On his personal time, cutting loose before being shipped to a war zone, in a private hotel room, his privacy was invaded.

vs. lying to the paraolympians, sneaking off of vacation to France, stripping off and changing her bathing suit outside in full view of all the staff and a public road, and getting caught. Or the ever popular flashing her ass at work again.

  25. Lucy says:

You know, I’m a student of English Translation, and one of the main subjects is, of course, Phonetics and Phonology. A couple weeks ago, we were studying the British Sociolingüistic Pyramid (which shows how accents are mostly defined by one’s social background and upbringing) and our professor made a point to describe how the members of the Royal Family sound (this was preceeded by the explanation behind the term “The Queen’s English”). She talked about how, ever since they’ve gotten married, William and Kate (esp Kate) have gradually changed their accents to make themselves sound more posh, whereas Harry (quote) “has never given a crap about that sort of thing”. As someone who’s not a native speaker (either from the US nor the UK), this has only made me like him even more!!

    • Natalie says:

I watched a little of The Queen at 90 and William was near unintelligible. He sounded like he was gargling marbles. I thought his accent was worse than Kate’s accent. I could understand Kate in the other documentary far more easily.

    • hmmm says:

This is actually the first time that I’ve listened to Kate speak. I was so taken aback at posh she sounded! A bit like Diana talking low in the back of her throat

  26. ClaireB says:

    Honk for Harry!

Dear Harry, please extricate yourself from these two nitwits. Take The Prince’s Trust from your dad, like he was trying to get William to do, and go off and do your own charitable works with that. Make the Prince Harry part of the trio foundation a name-only thing and get the off the HMS Cambridge, because it’s going down fast.

Yeah, Will and Kate, I’m sure you “changing the conversation” around mental health is going to help a lot. The 50 minutes a year you give to it will make a big difference, especially when you give speeches that put the blame on parents who have to work and don’t love their children. Next it will be children who don’t know how to have a positive attitude are at risk for mental health problems. I can almost hear your foot going in your mouth now, Kate!

    • ClaireB says:

Also, where is the article on how awesome Harry is all by himself?

I require many pictures or links to video of him helping up the widow who slipped. And pics of him laying the wreath for ANZAC day, etc…. You know, being a working royal, even though he can’t do it full-time because William doesn’t know what that means.

  27. Stacey says:

Harry is the only hope for the monarchy. He has his mother’s touch. And he seems to enjoy interacting with the public, where both William and Kate just grit their teeth and endure each encounter, Queen Elizabeth, take note: Harry’s the man.

  28. right says:

Henry my love, you need to rethink your trousers game altogether. A proper tailored pair of pants will look fantastic on his already well proportioned body. The shoe game and the beard, on the other hand, are full allowed to stay.

About Kate and Henry future’s wife, I like to believe that Henry will end up with an engaging lady not only in diplomacy and politics but also, in bondig with Kate and changing this awful mentality of nasty competition between public ladies. Kate has her role and, although she’s been underperforming in this area, I’ve got no doubts that she could use some healthy competition with a smart lady who would friendly push her to show the bet of her personality. That would be a fabulous and refreshing way to turn the table in her favor, while the new lady would benefit from the acceptance and also focus on a path of her own by Henry’s side.
Will zzzzzzz whatever, this dude gives me some serious Chris Martin vibe. And that’s not good 🙂

    • Jib says:

I can’t imagine Kate as seeing any competition as friendly, and I’m not sure she has a “best” of her personality to show. She does do well in sporting events like this one, but I could hardly understand the one line she did say and she looks flirty with Harry and plays with her hair. So even when she’s doing her best, she just doesn’t seem to have any judgement as to how to behave in public. I mean, she’s not a Kardashian, of course, but neither is she a Princess Anne or a Sophie or Maxima or Mary. Which is fine, if she were a involved and informed Kate. But…shrug. She just doesn’t seem to care enough to do the heavy lifting that being meaningful takes.

    • notasugarhere says:

KM doesn’t take kindly to other women. Harry’s wife will be Middleton Enemy Number One.

  29. Green Is Good says:

HONK x Infinity for Prince Hot Ginge.

  30. Cerys says:

Kate always seems more animated around Harry. I imagine he most be a breath of fresh air compared to William. That said, William is always more animated around Harry too. I hope the mental health awareness campaign lasts longer than some of their previous interest like children’s hospices etc. They could do a lot of good if they committed to things properly.

    • Jib says:

Yes, I asked on the DM comments yesterday – when is the last time they visited a hospice???

    • notasugarhere says:

We were told, when the new PR push about her being KEEN about mental health came about, that her other charities were going to have to take a backseat. Because she was going to focus so much of her hard-working time on MH you know.

As far as I can tell, the majority of either of their causes were dumped off the bus after a few photo ops.

  31. Magnoliarose says:

The ginger sexy saves the day. It seems both Workshy and Dolittle prefer Harry to each other. I can’t blame them.

    • Bella says:

How many official engagements has Harry clocked up this year?

      • notasugarhere says:

He did three yesterday, if I’m counting the way the royals do.

Some of the royal reporters have been highlighting on twitter that Harry’s engagements mysteriously haven’t been showing up in the CC. Reporters trying to block KP from messing with the numbers to make W&K look better?

  32. Tough Cookie says:

    “Keep those ideas coming!!”

  33. Misspiggy76 says:

She can’t even get through one minutes without adjusting her hair….what a shallow woman…. Why did u tolerate these parasites
