Prince Harry & Michelle Obama’s joint GMA interview was really, really cute

One of the best things that ever happened to Prince Harry is that he’s been given the opportunity to befriend First Lady Michelle Obama. They’ve been doing events together – on behalf of veterans and military issues – for years now. And in those years, they’ve developed a really sweet friendship. I personally believe they have crushes on each other. I’ve never seen Michelle so gushy and giggly as when she’s with Harry. And Harry just lights up in Michelle’s presence.

So, Michelle is in Orlando for the Invictus Games. Her office worked with Harry’s office to put the games together in America this year, and it’s brought Harry and Michelle even closer. So close that on Monday, they sat down together for a joint interview on Good Morning America. And it is SO CUTE. Michelle keeps touching Harry’s arm and she’s giggling like a school girl whenever he says anything. Harry even felt bold enough to imitate Pres. Obama, which made Michelle laugh even more.

I want more of this. I want Harry and Michelle to become the new diplomatic power couple. I want them to travel the world together! Michelle manages to playfully tease Harry too, telling a story about how Prince George sold him out: “All throughout the evening, he said, ‘Uncle Harry, why are you so quiet? Why are you so quiet?’ And I was like, ‘He wasn’t quiet.’ He didn’t understand what was wrong with you.”

Harry also did a solo interview with Jenna Bush Hager and Jenna offered up her sister Barbara to Harry as a potential girlfriend/wife. But that wasn’t the most interesting part of the piece. Harry was talking about how he sees the Queen as his boss, and how she lets the younger royals make their mistakes and she expects them to work their sh-t out on their own. Harry said: “My grandma has always been the boss. But my god, she gives amazing advice and she lets us cruise around doing what we think is right. You’ve got to find your own path and if you slip off people don’t tell you you’ve slipped off then you sure as hell work it out yourself.” While Harry has made mistakes and corrected himself, I also feel like he’s making another reference to William and Kate.

That interview was cute. It really shows Harry’s personality. He’s so good at being formal when he needs to, and relaxed when necessary. It does seem like both FLOTUS and POTUS bring that out in people though. They seem to have a good professional but laid back charm to them.

    • HH says:

Also, homeboy has his top button undone in those lower pics… why aren’t those the header photos? Hell, why aren’t they poster size?

  2. Alex says:

I love Harry but he can’t have the FLOTUS because i love the First Couple. But if he gets married they can double date travel. I’d be here for it.

I love Harry. I love Michelle. feel good story all around 🙂

  3. Pants says:

Can we just let him run the entire family? He’s so damn likeable!

    • Megan says:

I love how hard Harry is working to promote the games. He really put himself out there. I cannot imagine any other member of the Royal family showing the level of emotion he has this week — which is why we all love him so much. Honks for Harry!

  4. Astrid says:

    Team Harry

  5. ladysussex says:

I do believe Michelle has a crush on Harry. But I don’t believe Harry is cryptically shading his own brother, who he loves and is very close to, in the 2nd interview. I think it’s really strange that people think they are always trying to throw each other under a bus by way of media.

    • Sarah(too) says:

Well, it has been widely reported that William has thrown Harry under the bus before when Harry started to get too much good publicity (as opposed to the bad publicity for Work Shy Wills). With all the good Harry press lately, I’m expecting something bad to come out any day now.

    • bluhare says:

I agree with you ladysussex. I don’t think that Harry would publicly shade William either. He’s just saying that she lets you make your own mistakes and included everyone in that.

    • notasugarhere says:

I think he threw some shade on both his father and his brother when he talked of needing to find a wife who was both best for him and best for the job. His father and brother failed in at least one of those two areas, he wants to succeed in both.

      • HH says:

I don’t think he was throwing shade, but we are reading it as shade. Harry seems to love his family too much to throw shade at them in public like this (and rightfully so). I think he is just stating what he learned from his past relationships and those of his father and brother.

    • Megan says:

I don’t think Harry is shading his brother, I just think we read it as shade because William deserves it. He is deservedly on top of the world right now, I think his lazy brother’s laziness is the last thing on Harry’s mind.

    • Jib says:

Yeah, I’m not even sure what he is saying. It’s pretty confusing.

      Love him anyway.

      • perplexed says:

Oh good, I’m glad it wasn’t just me.

      • Mari says:

I didn’t see it as shade on William as much as, perhaps, bolstering the Queen to the extent anyone thinks she ought to be doing more to reign (pardon the pun) them in.

  6. Ana says:

    Im in love with Harry,

Is he too old for the eldest Obama daughter?

    • JenB says:

I had the same thought! It’s a bit of a gap but she is so much more mature than most girls I think it could work.

      • teacakes says:

I really hope you guys aren’t actually into this idea, Malia’s 17 years old.

The prospect was gross with Kylie Jenner, and despite Harry >>> Tyga, it’s still gross to think of the teenage First Daughter potentially hooking up with anyone so much older.

    • HH says:

Yes, especially if he wants to get married and have children any time soon… I mean, she’s only 17/18. With that age gap, I’m not sure if would even be comfortable until she’s about 25.

    • michelleb says:

If only Harry were 10 years younger or Malia 10 years older, I would totally ship them. They’d have such cute babies and Harry would have great in-laws.

    • teacakes says:

      WAY too old.

I mean, I know celebitches love him but Malia is underage, let the girl go to college and find herself some boys or girls her own age!

      • Bettyrose says:

Seriously. She’s about 10 relationships away from finding the one. Besides, she has far too much to offer the world to be a royal wife.

  7. MAP says:

The work Harry has been doing for veterans has been so inspiring, and the rise of the Invictus games is a real testament to that work. He’s found something that he’s passionate about (as a veteran himself), and seems to work tirelessly towards his passion. Good for him. Love it!

    • mary s says:

+1. He’s found something he’s passionate about, and he puts that passion to work. He’s awesome, he’s really grown up to be quite a good person. Honks for Harry!

  8. SusanneToo says:

    Hooooonnnnnnkkkkk.

  9. JenB says:

Charm offensive! They have great chemistry.

So there would be a 14 year age difference but I would kind of love an Malia Obama and Prince Harry engagement in 6 years or so.

  10. Betti says:

Am only here for Harry and his pretend internet GF, FLOTUS. I totes ship these 2 as a couple, they look so darn great together with all the flirty chemistry.

    • bluhare says:

They are really great together; I agree with you. I hope that they can continue to work together after the Obamas leave office. Maybe she can be the US head of the games! They need a high profile ambassador over here, like Britain has with Harry. That would be a match made in heaven!

      • notasugarhere says:

I’d like to see her take over North American fund raising for Sentebale, which right now only consists of the occasional polo match. They need to make it affordable and appealing to the rest of us to support them.

      • michelleb says:

Me too. I adore the First Couple and I hope that they continue to be in the spotlight afterwards – especially Michelle. I have such a girl crush on her. I’m not American, but I wish you guys could just keep them in office. I’m definitely going to miss the Obamas. Between PM Trudeau & POTUS’s bromance, and FLOTUS and Harry’s flirty friendship – and the President’s humour … So much to miss. (So much, and I’m only talking the shallow here).

  11. Chris says:

Lol. Kids will give you right up! “Uncle Harry, why are you so quiet”? ADORABLE.

    • Jib says:

I’m having trouble believing a 2 1/2 year old would be aware enough of behavioral changes in his uncle to actually say that. I think it’s a cute made-it story.

      • Hudson Girl says:

Kids are all different. My year and a half year old cousin once came over to me at a family party and demanded I, “Make my phone play Bob.” I almost passed out. I hadn’t seen her in months and she was remembering when I played a Bob Marley song for her on my iphone months earlier. She was only 18 months old- I was surprised she even remembered my face! Happened 5 years ago and I still can’t get over her memory skills.

    • Cricket says:

I read that George said he was quiet and Harry said George is used to him throwing him about the house. That makes more sense to me with what George meant, quiet in that he isn’t playing and tossing him about. I’m glad Michelle gave us some George/Harry insight. I’m surprised George was allowed to be ther for that long. I thought it was just for a quick photo PR move for the Doolittles.

  12. holly hobby says:

Holy crap! Since when did he grow up to be the hot royal?

  13. MM says:

    I loved the imitation!

  14. Pip says:

If these two ever run off together, I’d be prepared to take Barack in. A sacrifice, admittedly, but one I’m prepared to make – just to give him a home, obvs. A selfless gesture…..

    • Zimmerman says:

You’ll have to wrestle with me for that one, PIP, but I’d accept Harry too!

      • Pip says:

You’re very welcome to Harry, Zimmerman. I seem to be one of very few women who doesn’t find him remotely attractive. Seems like a nice lad, charismatic, becoming more articulate, much better value than his brother & is doing some genuinely good work but vaguely shaggable …. ? Not for me.

He sometimes plays polo at a ground near me & it’s hilarious seeing the local girls tripping along there, all decked out in their most glamorous outfits & slathered in tan & eyelashes, obviously in the hope of snaring themselves a prince!

      • HH says:

And Pip… umm… where is this polo ground? Prince Harry on duty is good, but Polo Harry is even better.

      • Pip says:

Better not post anything too specific, HH, but it’s one of the Army grounds he plays at fairly regularly. He also does a lot of charity work there – he’s a pretty frequent visitor.

      • Rae says:

        @HH

It’s likely Tidworth, a Tri service polo club which I’ve been a member of because they give discounted rates to military personnel, and Harry has been a regular there for various matches over the years.

        It’s not a secret.

    • bluhare says:

A natural Barack Obama smile is gorgeous.

    • Magnoliarose says:

I know it would be a hardship but I’m sure you would muddle through. Lol

  15. Sam says:

I don’t think Harry shades William on purpose at all. But truthfully, it’s hard not to see how inadequate William is when you compare him to Harry. You can see that Harry genuinely cares about veterans’ causes and helping them and that it’s not just a photo-op for him. It’s something that’s touched his life and he genuinely wants to help. William doesn’t have that. He doesn’t seem to have anything that he genuinely cares about. Even Charles has his pet causes that he devotes himself to. What does William genuinely have? There’s no cause or charity that leaps to mind with him.

    • Nic919 says:

William’s pet cause is himself. If he cared about anything else he would have done something by now.

  16. right says:

Michelle is so great and inspirational, you Americans need to find a way to keep her in the spotlight!
I’m always digging videos that can highlight clearly the differences between the American and British accent and vernacular to my students (they’re English as a second language learners) and I’m totally going to show them these interviews of Harry to the american press. I’m also thinking about showing them some invictus games videos and make a parallel between them and the paralympic games, wich will be held here in Brazil this year.
Harry gives me all sorts of inspiration, ❤

  17. minime says:

They seem to genuinely enjoy each other and I do think Harry admires Michelle Obama (what is there to not admire?)…it’s a really cute interview 🙂

    • Bettyrose says:

They’re adorable together, and there’s is a workplace flirtation. Obvs her husband doesn’t need to be worried. One can be madly in love with a spouse and still flirt a little at work.

But for the love of all that’s good and decent, people need to stop shipping him with Malia. His totally appropriate flirtation is with Michelle, not her underage daughter.

  18. Hazel says:

Interesting to me is how Harry was at KP that evening, but we saw no photos. In any case, I’ve been enjoying the H & M show and am so impressedy b the Invictus Games. Good show all around.

  19. Amelie says:

Maybe in another life Michelle and Harry could be together. I could totally see it happening. But Michelle and Barack totally adore each other. He’ll have better luck with the Obama daughters. Malia is only 17 but during her gap year when she turns 18 maybe she can go to England to sight see. Harry can be her tour guide.

  20. Tris says:

    Best best-friends ever!!

  21. Murphy says:

“One of the best things that ever happened to Prince Harry is that he’s been given the opportunity to befriend First Lady Michelle Obama”

This sentence needs to be reversed.

    • mary s says:

I’ll bet they’d both feel the sentence applies equally to each of them. A friendship like theirs is special, I’m happy they’ve found kindred spirits within each other. They both seem like sincere people.

  22. Magnoliarose says:

I don’t think he was throwing shade. He has always seemed protective of Workshy if anything. Workshy looks happiest when he’s around and I think Harry knows his struggles more than any one.

    They are adorable together.

  23. L says:

I’d put money on Michelle trying to find A girlfriend for Harry. Let’s hope she’s poised, smart…maybe African American?

  24. kat says:

    honking for harry!

  25. Kitten says:

Not sure who I love more…I guess I’ll give them a tie.

  26. Lainey says:

Love the two of them together. Hope they continue to work together for years to come!

  27. Cricket says:

Just saw the photo of Harry hugging the little boy with the prosthetic leg. Talk about melting heart…immediately thought of Diana and her speeches talking about hugs and how she loved to give them and that they can do great things. Also read the Piers Morgan article about Harry for King and love the end where he says it’s obvious Harry received a lot of hugs. So sweet.

  28. ClaireB says:

    Here honking for Harry!

I’ve had the Invictus Games on using the WatchESPN app, and they really are inspiring. ESPN brought on two commentators and an interviewer for each event, so they seem to be committed to the Games as well. It seems to have been very well planned and executed–Harry has found a great group of people to work on this project and make it great.

I’m always tearing up at inspiring stories so I’ve been using a lot of tissues the last couple of days! The commentators have the history of some of the competitors, such as when they enlisted and how they were injured. I’m only sad that I couldn’t watch the opening ceremony and the Invictus Choir and ESPN doesn’t have it for replay.

    • bluhare says:

I know! I’m on the west coast and miss most of it, although I did catch some last night. But I really wanted to see the choir! Who’d have thought One Direction for their song, but it worked.
