I told you guys it was weird that Amber Heard and Johnny Depp hadn’t walked a red carpet together in a while. But even I didn’t think that THIS would happen, right now, at this moment. TMZ reports that Amber Heard has just filed for divorce from Depp after just fifteen months of marriage. I mean… yes, this union was always going to end in heartbreak, booze and divorce filings. But did anyone think that they wouldn’t even make it to the two-year mark?
Amber Heard has filed for divorce from Johnny Depp … shockingly 3 days after Johnny’s mom died. Amber filed her divorce petition Monday, citing irreconcilable differences. The couple married in February of last year, yet Amber is asking for spousal support.
Our sources say the couple had NO prenup.
It’s especially harsh because Johnny was extremely close to his mother. She says in the divorce docs that they separated on May 22 … 2 days after Johnny’s mom passed. As if that’s not enough … Johnny’s new movie, “Alice Through the Looking Glass,” opens Friday.
I’m speechless… but I’m not. I’m shocked but not surprised. I do feel bad that Depp’s mom just passed away – I did not know that, and this must be a really difficult time for him. Made worse by the fact that his trophy wife just publicly dumped his ass. Granted, Johnny Depp is no angel, and he’s spent much of the last two years looking like he was barely crawling out of the biggest bender in the world. A bender called “Mid-Life Crisis.” Anyway… it will be fascinating to see what happens next. Stay tuned… we might have another Summer of Splits on our hands.

I agree, nobody is surprised by this. Although I did think it was going to last a little longer than just a year.
The lack of a prenup may not be that important. California is a 50-50 community property state, where community property is whatever assets or debts were acquired during the marriage. She doesn’t get half of his island or anything. She also doesn’t get any income he made before their wedding date which includes all his Pirates money, or anything he makes after May 22, which would include any back-end points from Alice. Their entire marriage was during a time where he was at a (relatively) low financial and professional point.
She maybe would have been better off with a prenup. Especially if he racked up any debt.
If he signed his contract for the latest Pirates movie while they were married, doesn’t it mean she’ll be entitled to half, even if they divorce before the movie comes out? She could be in for a huge payday.
I have to echo what others are saying. She sure is coming off as one cold, savvy player. Of course, Johnny has his demons too.
Well, the only way I can see her getting any additional money, than what she is legally entitled to, would be of it is “hush” money.
If she threatens to air his dirty laundry in court, which can then be reported on by the press, he may pay her off a nice sum of money, to keep her mouth shut.

Yes, but without a prenup, she is only entitled to half of what they owned together during the marriage and half of what earned -during the marriage. So if he -already- owned the island, it’s not hers nor is she entitled. If they bought a jet-boom, they have to sell it and she gets half or he just gives her the half in cash and keeps it etc. LIkely he will just settle instead of dividing up property. So the “no pre nup” thing in a short marriage doesn’t make that much impact.

I would give a pass to a “regular” woman, who maybe had to file for divorce in order to get out of a house/get a restraining order (if he’s a dangerous drunk, for example), etc., but she has the means to separate from him and stay away from him for a few days/weeks before filing for divorce.

Wow, but not really. Is the board lawyer out there? Is it even possible to get a divorce lawyer and paperwork filed that quickly? That breakup date sounds made up. Like maybe she told him she was leaving on Monday but had this planned last April. Even if it can be done it sounds like a bad idea if you want to come out on top after the divorce.
Lawyer here, but not in whatever jurisdiction this is in. My guess is that this was pre-planned with a pre-planned separation date due to the timing – separated Sunday, filed…Monday?. Just the administrative timelines would be difficult.
Divorce petitions don’t need a lot of detail. My ex told me the evening of July 3 (a Friday) he wanted a divorce. He filed 4 days later. Of course he was (and still is) banging his co-worker. They’re engaged. I sooooo hope for the same result as Amber/Johnny (minus the death of the mother and the drugs — I’m not that bitter!).

My imagination went immediately to him being difficult due to grief during his mother’s illness in the months or weeks before her death, and Amber being a dirty little golddigger and being sick of his whining. I think this is terribly sad for him, even if he did grab a bargain basement trophy wife (and the no pre-nup thing is brutal, too).

I think filing so soon after his mother died is very cold. Even if she was waiting for her to pass, she could’ve gone somewhere for a week or two and then filed, just to give him some space, and a chance to grieve and deal with arrangements before having to deal with a divorce attorney.
Eh, knowing that he was a drunk doesn’t mean she was prepared for dealing with the ins and outs of alcoholism. Speaking from experience, what can seem harmless and even fun in the early stages of a relationship can turn scary fast when you realize the depths of the other person’s problem, which might take a while. Plus there’s that age gap. I’m sure they were keeping up with each other, but someone drinking a lot in their 20s isn’t necessarily going to keep that up. A guy who still drinks heavily in his 50s, however, likely has some pretty ingrained bad habits.

This is the most sensible comment. Johnny has looked a mess for quite a while. Bloated and out of it. And when you are in the all loved up stage of your romance you don’t see anything, your brain chemistry is a messed up from all the love and sex hormones. And she’s very young. I’m giving her a pass as I think it must have been pretty bad for her to pick 2 days after his mother passed to file. She may have been waiting for her to pass away before she did. Do I think Johnny Depp is abusive? No. But I do think he’s got drink or drug problems or both. Here’s hoping he gets help, here’s hoping she gets a settlement that is fair to them both and moves on in peace.

Bit of an over generalisation, most of the women I know earn more than their partners including those with significant age gaps where the woman is younger. Personally I’m more than a decade older than my partner and while I do earn a little more than he does now it’s certainly not enough for him to be in it for the money especially given his income is likely to raise higher than mine in a few years and after 10 will be much higher. Of course plenty of people think like you do but I find once they know what I do for a living they regret their assumptions, everyone knows you don’t go into my field for the money.

Knew it was over like a month ago. Let me break down some time line facts. After they returned from Australia for court. She left with her girlfriends for her birthday, don’t think they’ve seen each other since. He went to London, Paris and back to LA to promote his movie, all alone. She was in Italy briefly. Then he finished up work in LA, went to NY for a one night gig and is now on his way to Europe.
My thinking is he was done with her long ago and she knew it. He may have been trying to quietly plan his escape and was hoping to time it after his film released when he was on tour and away from Hollywood. Bitch beat him to it. The mom thing just makes her look cold as shit. But I think that’s just the way he’s going to like it. He already responded so he had a lawyer too.
I wish him a speedy bounce back and I do believe he’s on his way. He actually was much more sober the last few weeks.

I actually think Johnny is happy that she filed for divorce because it was clear he married her to prove some sort of point.He probably checked out of that relationship along time ago but his ego and embarrassment might have prevented him from taking action. I just read on TMZ that Depp’s family hated Amber. Assuming that includes his mother, and in the wake of her death, Johnny was the one to actually pull the pin on their marriage. Perhaps, in order to allow her to ‘save face’, Johnny agreed to let her do the filing.
My thought? Depp has always been pap-phobic and it’s only since he’s been with Amber that he gets papped since she obviously calls them. And so, I’m just going to go on the assumption that ANYTHING we read on TMZ or RadarOnline (who apparently have the divorce docs) has been planted there by Amber in an attempt to spin this to her benefit. Depp has shunned this kind of stuff his whole life. Did we hear anything about how his split with Vanessa went down from either of them in the gossip rags? Very little and what was there was mere speculation.
Here we have “oh, his family hated me”, yet I distinctly remember reading about a year ago how well she got along with Lily Rose. Depp moved his terminally ill mother into the compound he lives in? What an awful awful man, I don’t know how the poor dear stood it for the last year, knowing it wasn’t going to be for very long because the woman was dying! Johnny is heading out on (or is already on?) tour with Alice Cooper and Joe Perry for the next couple of months with the Hollywood Vampires and I think that will be really good for him in terms of his possible addictions. Alice almost died from alcohol abuse and has since been known to help out many fellow musicians in trouble. He may seem an old freak, but has a reputation for being both wise and kind 🙂 Same goes for Perry, btw – serious addictions, but beat them decades ago and has since led an extremely healthy lifestyle.

i see alot of people putting the “alcoholic” label on Johnny…but i wonder. I have two alcoholic family members who cannot work or do very much besides go a mile outside of their homes every day. They can’t work. Both have had seizures from about 10 hours of non drinking and required between 12-30 days of hospital treatment just to get themselves straight. and im not talking about a one gallon a day alcohol habit, much less & one JD could easily have. How could He do any movie if he was truly an alcoholic? either he wouldnt show up, or would be incapable of actually doing the movie because he would be shaking like a leaf/terribly anxious or being fed booze all the time, resulting in him being too drunk to do the job. Amber is clearly a gold digger but I doubt he’s an alcoholic.
