Us Magazine (via The Daily Mail) is said to be running a story (I’m phrasing it that way as I assume it’s in the upcoming print edition) claiming that things are going so well between Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner while they’re in Europe this summer that she’s considering taking him back. Before you dismiss this report as speculative based on photos of them out with their kids, remember that last summer, when Ben got caught cheating with the nanny, US had insider details which could have only come from Jen’s side. Also remember that the last time we heard that these two were considering reconciling, just a couple of weeks ago from People, Ben’s side shot it down fast. In fact it sounded somewhat embarrassing to Jen but here we go again. I don’t think she’s particularly worried about that. It’s like the press is privy to every status change in their relationship, like they’re using US, People and E! instead of Facebook to give us updates.
However, now friends of the pair tell Us Weekly, there is not just a light at the end of the tunnel – there could be a reconciliation.
A number of sources spoke to the magazine about the changing nature of the former couple’s relationship now that they are spending the summer in Europe.
With Ben based in London while he films The Justice League: Part One and his 44-year-old estranged wife joining him with their children Violet, aged 10, Seraphina, aged seven, and Samuel, aged four, the pair have been spending a lot of time together away from the stresses of Hollywood.
A friend of the couple told the magazine that the mini getaways had helped rekindle the flame between the pair and while they are not back together, Jen is changing her tune and open to it.
The friend told Us Weekly: ‘Jen would definitely get back together with him.’
[Another] source said: ‘A lot of damage has been mended. They are really in a good place.’
However, Ben’s camp do not seem to be so helpful, with insider telling the magazine it was strictly about the children.
The Ben source said: ‘They’re co-parenting while he’s filming. That’s all it is.’
This sounds exactly like the he-said she-said thing which played out in the press last month. Ben probably has at least one piece on the side, if not multiple women. We just heard about him allegedly being spotted in Miami looking surly in an Uber with a young blonde. Does Garner just ignore anything that isn’t happening under her own roof? If this is a PR-sanctioned story, and that’s usually how US gets their scoops, why are they putting this out there? I don’t understand why this two just don’t just keep it under wraps. It’s like once the news got out that Ben was cheating with the nanny they’ve had a compulsive need to control the narrative ever since. That often doesn’t work out in the celebrity’s favor.

Ellie, my mom has this exact same theory (about certain men not Ben specifically). I was saying that I’m surrounded at work by men who complain constantly about their wives/girlfriends. Why don’t they end those relationships if they’re so unhappy? And she was all “they love being little boys complaining about their wife-mommies.” Gaaaaaah! I would be hurt and mortified if my BF bitched about me like I was his jailer.
I think your mom has a good grasp on this one. There’s a LOT of guys like that in my field too – but you know they’re often the first ones to fall apart without their wives or gfs.

He doesn’t want to stay married.
He admitted a long time ago that his MO when he wants out of a relationship is behaving badly until he’s dumped. He did it in all his past relationships. With Garner, he started acting out 4-5 years ago. Showing up high to work events, spending all his free time gambling, barely hiding his cheating, making his marriage sound like an annoying chore every time he spoke of it…he was actively trying to destroy his marriage, and anyone but Garner wold have left him a long time ago.
He let the nanny story get out there. Chrissy O was very obviously bought off, and he could have saved himself some drama and bought her off BEFORE she went public. Instead he waited weeks. He was trying to ensure that the marriage was done for good.
She’s rapidly becoming rather pathetic, and he’s a tool.

At this point I think Jennifer doesn’t even want him, she just wants to be Mrs. Affleck. She likes what that title brings. She wanted him so badly and well, now she has him. She’ll make less of a fuss and look away even more. Some women have put up with worse for a lot less fame and money.
He wants to be a typical asshole who can be as free and scandalous as he wants to but doesn’t want to pay alimony, child support or see “his” kids around another man if Garner ever dated. They’re a hot mess and they deserve each other.
Agree with your summary. It would be one thing if he cheated, she threw him out, then he was truly sorry and begged her to let him come back. This was like he cheated, she never got really mad, he left and now she’s trying to get him back. He might deign to come back because it’s so inconvenient to be seperated. Ugh.

How nice would it be if he would take out an ad in a paper or magazine and publicly apologize to his wife? He did that when he was running after J.Lo, but to my knowledge he hasn’t lifted a finger during this separation.

But I think she knows that she’s not and that whatever PR-fueled facade they had been building about being a cute little family is over now, post-Nanny/gambling/Finding Your Roots. There’s no coming back from this without looking totally pathetic.

That Italy trip happened two weeks ago. Ben wasn’t with them. These tabloids are making up stories and Gossip Cop keeps shutting them down. They get their stories from Twitter , FB and other social media sites.
If and when JG goes back to Affleck then she is one stupid woman. No self respect.
Their “sources” are twitter and Facebook users that posted sightings of Jen and Ben in Europe, in fact I noticed on two posts of Jen sightings with her kids in Italy immediately replying is someone wanting them to follow them so they can ask more details on their sighting. The quotes from Garner and Affleck sources are easy to write, but it’s all speculative. But yes, Ben didn’t go to Italy, unless he left after work and went straight to her hotel in Italy to sleep with her and we all know that wouldn’t happen, right? Jen and her kids will be back in LA soon, and Ben will be by himself in London carousing, partying and hooking up with randoms, and this dream of a romantic vacation will be forgotten. Now if Jen ends up staying the entire summer in London then something is up…of course I’m just speculating.
There is a movie that will start production this summer and JG is rumored to be part of it. Either she is coming back to film it or the movie is going to be filmed in Europe. We will see.

Agree there were no sightings of him in Italy, but how do WE know he wasn’t there? Maybe he just didn’t do any of the day outings with them. Like in Paris, Jen was seen out and about during the days at Notre Dame and on the Sienne, but Ben must have stayed behind working, etc.
Not audrey but — there were many sightings of her and the kids at various times over several days and he was never with them. I personally cant suspend disbelief that he went all the way there just to hang out in the hotel while everyone else went sightseeing. Come on.
They’re actually weren’t many Venice sightings of Venice – just of her and the kids in their private boat, and a picture of Jennifer with the driver. He absolutely could have been there too but did less sightseeing, as in Paris.

JoJo- There are new pics of Jen with Sam departing from Heathrow airport today, she stayed in London for a month, just like what was reported before. I’ve always been really skeptical about the whole “his side uses People Magazine, her side talks to US” thing. I clicked on the link in this post that supposedly had extra special insider info about their divorce that “could have only come from Jen’s side” and like, I could have speculated all of that and fed it to a tabloid. The US magazine article that was out this week about Italy clearly wasn’t fact-checked at all because Ben wasn’t there. So how did this supposedly come from her side? lol I don’t think either side is using the rags at all and these sources are people just getting paid to make stuff up but I do think that PR occasionally communicate with Gossip Cop.

Exactly. Before the trip ever happened, they tried to get out in front of the rag mag stories that would come by seeing them together. They let the world know it was purely so Ben and his children wouldn’t be far apart for so long. It didnt stop any of the made-up narratives the rags attached to photos to sell magazines or drive views.

There was a quote in some article last year about how Jennifer loves drama. It gave an example of her calling Ben from the set of Alias while Scott Foley, who she was still married to at the time, was right there, and how it drove Scott crazy. The drama queen thing is counter to how she presents herself publicly, but I’m really beginning to believe it. She seems to thrive on the attention and drama of being Mrs. Ben Affleck. I see the VF article through this lens too. If you really think about it now, what was the point of it? It wasn’t about her career or her moving on to build a life independently. It was just a public declaration of love and adoration for Ben with a bit of well-placed shade designed to give him a good dose of public guilt and shame.

I read a comment on dlisted last night about Jen making sure that she was giving Vartan a bj when she knew that Foley would be coming to the set. I have read all kinds of things about her that paint her in an ugly light.
No, I think I just interpret the article differently. I personally think she viewed it as a public wake up call to Ben. Calling him the love of her life vs. I’ll always love him as the father of my kids. That right there says a lot.
As for stories about Jen, I’m sure a lot of them are untrue as could be said for many stories about Ben. I’m sure the truth is somewhere in between. But I do believe the story about her calling Ben on set while still married. All you have to do is watch her body language around Ben during Daredevil premiers, and it’s almost embarrassing.

Ben’s team shutting down every reconciliation rumor is very tactical, they know what they’re dealing with their client, so if and when Ben finds himself busted hooking up with someone else during his time away from his family in London, they can say “so what?? he’s separated and getting divorced, we already said he and Jen weren’t getting back together, it’s all in Jen’s head, it’s her wishful thinking”. They have an easy out and will make Jen and her PR team look like fools, payback for the Vanity Fair public shaming of Ben.
Now did he and Jen hook up during this vacation? Probably, he was being attentive to her, they were getting along better and actually spending time alone without the kids, they are human and are technically still married so anything could have happened. BUT he has cheated on her so many times, and he will continue to hook up with different women while he’s in London shooting just like he did in the past, and Jen knows this. Hopefully she just got herself some “good ol’ sex with the ex” for old times sake and that’s it, good for her if that’s the case.
Yup! All these rumors of reconciliation or not are coming from Ben’s team to get back to her Vanity interview. As for Ben being humiliated by that interview, i don’t know. He had done the same to JG through the years.
Something tells me Jen is not the type to have a “fling” with Ben. She said he is the “love of her life”, so I think she’d only be hooking up with him if she felt a reconciliation was seriously in the cards and that Ben isn’t hooking up with anyone else (or at least telling her he isn’t.) She’d just be setting herself for massive heartbreak and pain again. I said it before and will say it again – these two aren’t divorcing. I know people disagree, but it’s just so blatantly obvious. If this is what co-parenting looks like, then it’s co-parenting on steroids.

Commentators are being selective in saying Ben sources are denying reconciliation rumors. Sources close to him told People two weeks ago that he wanted to get her back, and Ben himself was calling Jennifer “my wife” in BvS interviews, and saying ‘who knows what the future holds.”

Ben will accept his award and then return to London alone. They haven’t reconciled, just accept it and move on lol.
Doubt Ben will go back to LA just for that award, he’ll probably tape an acceptance message and stay in London till filming of Justice league wraps later this summer. He’s used to not seeing his kids for months at a time, it’s probably when he’s the happiest, when he doesn’t have to be reminded that he’s a father. I have suspected since the Vanity Fair party that he was seeing Kate Hudson. Kate sent her nanny to Samuel’s birthday party and then she was photographed near Ben several times at the party. It reminded me of a quote that Jen told him “not to hit on the mothers from the kids’ school.” She probably knew then that they were hooking up. Also, Kate has been in London at least once since Ben has been over there.
It’s so clear now that they are both just playing a PR manipulative game with this divorce. Neither come out looking good. I’m officially signing the petition referenced previously.
