Christina Applegate is People Magazine’s ‘Most Beautiful’ cover girl

Finally, a People Magazine “Most Beautiful” cover I can get behind. This year’s “Most Beautiful” is none other than the lovely and talented Christina Applegate. Applegate survived breast cancer last year, for which she had a double mastectomy in July. She spent several months recovering from that ordeal, and went on to have reconstructive breast surgery. Regardless of what’s happening with her body, Christina is one of those woman whose beauty radiates from within. I’ve literally sobbed watching her interviews, and I’m so moved by the grace with which she’s handled her struggles. Well done, People Magazine!

She has an “angel” of a boyfriend, Dutch bass player Martyn Lenoble, “who loves me from head to toe.” She has a cozy Malibu beach house that she calls “the best thing I’ve ever done for myself.” And, after a very public battle with breast cancer that has given her a gratifying “feeling of purpose,” Christina Applegate has a new lease on life.

“I used to be really shy but I started to come into my own in my late 20s and early 30s,” Applegate, 37, tells PEOPLE in the cover interview for the annual Most Beautiful issue – her first interview since her reconstructive breast surgery last November. “Now I’m not afraid to speak up in a room full of people and be a part of the conversation.”

The Samantha Who? star says she’s finding balance and embracing her body after undergoing a double mastectomy in July.

“You have to get through the physical transformations then buck up, go to work and try to be the normal, happy Christina for everyone around you,” she says.

One source of strength has been Lenoble. “He’s been a friend for about 13 years,” Applegate says. “Our relationship gets stronger and stronger. I’m really lucky.”

And, more importantly, he makes the actress feel “beautiful” about her new body.

“I’m very grateful to Martyn for coming along at a time that he did because he’s been my rock through all of this,” Applegate says. “He gave me something to really want to live for and something to smile about.”

I wish her all the happiness in the world – she got dealt some bad hands in the poker game of life, and hopefully everything will be better for her in the coming years. She’s talked in the past of her desire to become a mother, and I hope that happens for her. I don’t know much about this boyfriend Martyn Lenoble, other than what People Magazine says, but I hope it’s the real deal. Congratulations, Christina!

As much as I think this stuff is stupid, I gotta say its nice they picked some one else for a change.

  2. HEB says:

I really like her and think she’s beautiful, but when I saw this cover-the first thing that popped into my head was ‘she looks like an old Lauren Conrad…’ Oops.

  3. Exiled says:

Lauren Conrad is blessed to look like her than.

  4. (The original) Blondie says:

I’ve always considered her beautiful. Just something about her smile. Know who I’ve always thought was UGLY??? Cameron Diaz!!!! LOL

  5. blahblah says:

she’s pretty but just cause she had health issues doesn’t mean she should be on the cover she’s so not beautiful – it’s kind of a pitty cover (they felt sorry for her and also wanted to make money off her cause people love sad celeb stories

  6. michelle says:

I love her. She is really beautiful. She seems like a totally different person than she was when she was on Married with Children. I loved her then and am loving her now.

  7. Shelly Shellz says:

    I totally agree w blahblah

This will not sell big w her on the cover. She’s pretty but other then her unfortunate health problems u dont hear much abt her, and she isn’t that beautiful to grace the cover of the magazine

  8. jennifer says:

Love. This. Woman. Have for years, there’s no “pity” here, she’s fantastic. 🙂

  9. Moore says:

agreed blahblah. Are they going for an internal beauty here? She’s pretty but if it wasn’t for health would she even be on the cover?

  10. lisa says:

Ah good choice! I like that they didn’t pick the usual A-list celebrities we see on the cover year after year. Although I wouldn’t mind seeing some Clive Owen on there…

  11. Zoe (The Other One) says:

I hate these stupid lists of who is beautiful and who isn’t. But this is a good choice.

  12. (The Original) Blondie says:

I don’t think her being on the cover of People has anything to do with her previous illness. Maybe when she’d first been diagnosed, but no one really even thinks about that immediately when you say her name. It may have more to do with her resurfacing with a successful primetime series. Ok, so she’s not an A-List celebrity. So what? I, personally, am sick of seeing Angelina Jolie being crowned the World’s Most Beautiful Human Being in the History of Anything and Anyone that Ever Has Existed or Ever Will Exist.

  13. Celebitchy says:

She may look like Lauren Conrad because Conrad is all-natural too. I read an article in In Touch (I think) a couple of weeks ago about all the plastic surgery the women from The Hills had undergone and they declared Conrad the only natural one. She’s lovely ans so is Applegate.

  14. leigh says:

i love this woman. 🙂 and the grace with which she has handled herself throughout the whole cancer ordeal was really inspiring. i’m so glad she wasn’t afraid to talk about it.

samantha who is actually a really cute show too.

  15. Amy says:

Christina does not look good in this picture. I also don’t think she should be on the cover. She seems too low profile. I doubt Christina would have made the cover if she didn’t have cancer.

  16. lrm says:

you know what ppl,be careful with all the ‘advanced technology’,screening you for ‘pre cancerous cells’. Honestly,we could all be precancerous…don’t let it lead you down a road of choosing invasive and/or dangerous options/outcomes. Seriously….look into detoxes [why would you make fun of the fact that the organs in the body carry stress,as do the tissues and blood-and would need to be cleaned out from time to time? It is only logical.] and chinese medicine, among other approaches. Christ,Chinese Med. has whole books on breast health-and i’m talking basic care,to benign growths to the more advanced. At least explore your options and don’t bow down to the ‘oh,it’s genetic’ for every damn thing out there today. It’s not crazy to realize you have options and other ways of thinking about things.
That said, whatever someone chooses in the end, respect that. BUT,most don’t even believe they have options and are driven solely by fear and belief systems.
And,yea,it’s nice to have someone else on a cover, but this does seem like a pity cover. Otherwise, why bring up her ‘health issues and grace with which she handled them?’

  17. the original kate says:

    i like her.

  18. Dirty Martini says:

SHe seems beautiful, inside and outside too.

    Well done.

  19. Bobby the K says:

    ~

She is at least as attractive as A. Jolie, who is hugely over rated in the looks department.

  20. Jag says:

I love her, but this is NOT a good picture of her.

  21. jennifer says:

Maybe they think she’s beautiful not only because she’s pretty but because of what leigh said – her courage & grace throughout her ordeal. There’s more to a person than their looks, and I think Christina is a good example of someone who is beautiful in many ways.

  22. paranel says:

I am glad Christina survived cancer but she is not the most or even one of the most beautiful women in the world.
