Sara Hammel: Duchess Kate ‘grins maniacally’ because her face ‘is collapsing’

kate3

A few weeks ago, we talked about Sara Hammel, the long-time freelance entertainment journalist who worked for People Magazine for years and years. Hammel quit People Magazine with a bridge-burning resignation letter, calling out celebrities, their a—hole publicists and the editors at People. Hammel mentioned in the letter that she was going to focus on book-writing, and as it turns out, she’s already got a semi-memoir coming out called Red Carpet Regret: Confessions of a cynical celebrity journalist. In the memoir, she talks about all of her experiences interviewing and meeting celebrities, of course. And she gave Cosmopolitan a taste. This is SO gossipy and insider-y, and just admit it: this is the kind of stuff we really want to know. Who is actually nice, who is actually funny, who is actually a jackass. You can read the full Cosmo piece here. Some highlights:

Jennifer Garner knows you were judging how quickly she took off the baby weight: Hammel shares that she’s interviewed Jennifer Garner who, according to Hammel, says she admitted she feels pressure to be thin and to drop her baby weight “almost immediately, but I can’t make it come off faster than it does. I can’t seem to be pregnant without gaining 45 lbs. There’s not a lot I can do about it. I wish that I could, because I do feel the pressure and I do see the cameras and it’s the one time where having people follow you and take pictures of you is just excruciating.”

Jennifer Lopez at Tom Cruise’s wedding. “Ms. Lo speeds up, and as she passes in front of me she almost I-think-she-kind-of-did spit with a fierce Pss-fff-tsshh in my direction. I am taken aback. As she swans away, her famous butt, which I never realised was so untoned, is undulating under her silken baby pink gown. For me, now, she is ugly inside and out.”

Interviewing Angelina Jolie:
It’s like “preparing for an audience with the queen…when you meet her she appears unhealthily skinny, not just I-have-to-look-good-onscreen-so-give-me-a-break thin, with jagged shoulder blades and protruding clavicles, and has strangely pale makeup covering up what look like scattered scabs. And that she has a slow way of talking, looks you in the eyes only briefly and not truly connecting at all (many stars try really hard to seem like they’re connecting; she does not, at least not with me).”

Duchess Kate’s face: According to Hammel, Kate only smiles because her face is “collapsing.” She continues, “That, my Kate Middleton watchers, is why you will see her grinning maniacally at all times in photographs and videos, even when you get the strong sense it doesn’t really fit the occasion, even when you can’t see quite what’s so funny, even when those around her don’t seem remotely festive. Even when she’s staring into space, walking up some stairs. Even at somber events when it’s not right to smile, when she can’t lest she appear soulless, she tucks the corners ever-so-slightly upward.”

Jennifer Lawrence: Hammel says she’s a celebrity who, “who deigns to throw you a quote but makes it clear they’re doing you the grandest favour a higher being can bestow.”

Ryan Reynolds: Hammel says he’s a celebrity who “wants nothing to do with you before they even meet you.”

Celebrities who are “snappish or just rude”: Richard Gere, Alan Cumming, Jon Bon Jovi, and Lupita Nyong’o.

Celebrities who take themselves “very seriously”: Ryan Reynolds, Matthew McConaughey, Ashton Kutcher, Elizabeth Olsen.

[From Cosmo]

The Angelina Jolie gossip is disappointing. I’ve obviously heard before that speaking to Angelina is like speaking to royalty, and that she’s not trying to impress you or whatever. And we all know that she’s thin. But the scabs? Huh. Her skin looks crazy-flawless to me. As for the Duchess of Cambridge’s “collapsing face”… OH MY GOD. If it’s a theory, it’s a decent theory because does explain a lot and that just clicked a lot of conspiracies and details into place for me. It explains why her face goes from really drawn and haggard to healthy and full within days – she’s getting fillers and Botox consistently. Now, was her face collapsing (allegedly) before the fillers and Botox, or are those fillers and Botox the reason why her face is collapsing? Unknown. And finally, an explanation for Kate’s crazy smiling, even at somber occasions. However it’s more than possible that this is less a dishy tell-all and more like internet-comments-as-memoir, as in she’s just going by photos as much as any of us.

It’s not all mean gossip though… Hammel also has some nice things to say. She says that Posh Beckham is really nice & self-deprecating. She lists some people who are really kind and treat entertainment journalists like equals, like: Jack Black, Chrissy Teigen, Hugh Jackman, Joshua Jackson, Jason Bateman, Jenna Fischer, Mischa Barton, Emma Thompson, Tea Leoni, and Misty Copeland. She says Emily Deschanel, Colin Farrell and Michael Douglas are “kind even when they don’t have to be.” And Kevin Kline, Bryan Cranston and Ricky Gervais are “funny even when they don’t need to impress you.”

I think Kate battles the ass/face age old conundrum
She chose thin. Unfortunately post 30 we lose fat on our faces anyway. If we started off thin it can mean you look dreadfully haggard.
Without the fat of youthful cheek propping up her face her mouth droops like a sad clown
The smoking doesn’t help her lips.
She should get herself properly filled.

The Jolie stuff sounds like veiled drug referencing

    • Bettyrose says:

OMG, you’re right. The Jolie stuff could allude to amphetamine based diet pills. Poor AJ. She’s got it all, but she’s clearly struggling with something. I tend to forget she’s had some pretty dramatic health problems because she handled it with so much grace.

ETA: IDK, other posters make good points that this observation doesn’t correlate with observations by other interviewers.

      • Meadow says:

Didn’t she have chicken pox at one point, perhaps the interviewer saw her soon after with some of the scabs remaining from the virus.

      • bettyrose says:

        Meadow:

I just googled that. There are images everywhere of it. Hardly an inside scoop, is it? But that explanation pretty much clears up scab-gate. Thanks for mentioning it!

    • Megan says:

I think the extreme weight loss is definitely making her face sag. She looked great when she was pregnant.

    • greenleaf says:

It’s ok to get older and everyone ages differently! I know she’s royalty and in the public eye, but I don’t think we should be encouraging other women to have toxins and plastics injected into their faces. We criticize women over 30 when they have work done, now we’re criticizing them when they don’t. They can’t win.

      • Bettyrose says:

PREACH! The Kate observations are just mean. And WTF does collapsing even mean? I think she smiles a lot because she isn’t sure how to act and being pleasant/looking happy is what she’s comfortable with.

      • Kitten says:

        This times a million.
There’s so much to criticize Kate for, why go after her face? Why go there?

      • MorningCoffee says:

Exactly! We criticize people who body shame women and then proceed to sit here on Celebitchy and body shame women. Not cool.

      • JenniferJustice says:

Just so….unnecessarily mean. If she didn’t smile and looked somber, she’d get flack for that. I don’t think Kate can do right by a lot of people no matter what.

As for AJ, I’m a bit baffled by the guesses here. She is a heroin addict. I suspect she uses – maybe not as much as she did when she was in throws of addiction pre-Brad, but if she is into drugs, it only makes sense it would be the same drug she’s struggled with before.

The journalist just seems bitter and out for attention grabbing information that may or may not even be true. The subtle jabs only make her look petty – the JLo butt thing? Come on! And I find it really hard to believe Matthew McConoughy takes himself seriously. This is the same guy who makes big fun of himself for getting paid bookoo bucks for sitting in a Lincoln and saying one supper hammy line. He’s always seemed to find it all ridiculous but to his advantage. I’m curious how perfect journalist woman is – willing to bet she has some aging going on and isn’t Mother Theresa personality-wise herself.

      • Sullivan says:

Apparently, there are many valid criticisms about Kate’s work ethic and spending habits. Why criticize her looks? Because it’s cheap and easy. Her face is “collapsing?” Wow. smh

      • Sixer says:

Exactly. As a Britisher republican and a person who thinks public service roles should be accountable, I am the first person to criticise Katie Bucket. I can even understand scrutiny on fashion choices, since she’s representing more than herself in public appearances. But face and weight? Count me out.

      • Tourmaline says:

Agree wholeheartedly. This lady Hammel does sound unhinged like someone said elsewhere here. And the whole “collapsing” makes no sense and makes me think of a face caving in i.e. due to excessive plastic surg. altering the underlying structure of the face like MJ. If Kate’s face is a bit saggy — that doesn’t equate to collapsing.

I bet People is glad to be rid of her.

      • Tiffany :) says:

        I agree.
And honestly, Kate looks like she absolutely does not get botox and fillers, which is why I think she gets so much shade for her face looking “aged”.

      • Pandy says:

Kate can’t win. I don’t think she needs to worry about her face collapsing at her age. Come on! Aside from JLo’s untoned ass (priceless!!!!), she was kind of bitchy and hateful with the rest of her comments.

      • KittyKat says:

I thought “collapsing” was some sort of metaphor for moral decay. Like, she made her bed (or her mother’s) and now she has to lie in it. If you’re talking plastic surgery or fillers, I would expect a collapsing face to look more like Michael Jackson’s.

      • W says:

Let’s not forget she was a “journalist” for People magazine for a really long time. Has anyone else here experienced working for any of these magazines? Because the staff are usually NASTY! Doesn’t surprise me at all. And she left People to now go around spreading venom on celebs by herself? And we’re supposed to have sympathy for her? Please!!!

      • Lahdidahbaby says:

        A-fecking-men! Thanks for saying it!

    • laura says:

I’ve always been thin – probably too thin in my teenage years although not for want of trying to gain weight – but my face is now doing the opposite and is getting chubbier and chubbier now I’m past 30!

    • Christianna says:

      She smokes?

  2. AlleyCat says:

I don’t know, I don’t find what she’s saying funny or juicy. She kind of seems mean spirited, and like she’s just throwing stuff at the wall to see what sticks and keeps us interested.

    • nicole says:

I agree. I find the part about J-Lo’s butt particularly mean for some reason. And she is alluding to drugs with Angelina. I don’ t know, she is trying to sell books I guess but I don’t like how she’s doing it. There is a difference between actual celebrity gossip and just tearing people down (I hope).

      • Hadleyb says:

How is it mean? That Jlo’s famous ass isn’t as firm and cellulite free like we are lead to believe? Or that JLo is a right betch ?

I do love to hear when people you suspect are a holes really are –and it amazes me how much strangers will stick up for celebs.

And I also love when celebs you don’t really know turn out to be good people – Colin ? Who knew.

      • Bettyrose says:

Yeah, she lost me at untoned ass.

      • Kitten says:

It was mean because it was petty as hell. Like she couldn’t just share the anecdote about J Lo being rude without slamming her appearance on top of it. How mature.

Also, regardless of J Lo’s personality, she’s fit as hell and she works hard to look like that.

It all just sounds like sour grapes to me, honestly.

      • nicole says:

Exactly Kitten – it’s mean because there was no reason for that aside. Why rip apart these women’s – Kate, Angelina, Jennifer – (only women’s that I’ve seen so far) when she apparently has gossip on their behaviour.

And if J Los butt is considered untoned then there is zero hope for the rest of us. Her body is banging.

      • Chinoiserie says:

Handleyb, not everyone likes to think people are rude and use the same kind of be erot of the doupt system for celebrities as for everyone, there is no way of knowing these are facts.

      • crtb says:

I worked with jlo last week and not only was her body amazing, her face was flawless. I wish my butt sagged like hers.

      • La Ti Da says:

Her comments about JLo’s bum were an unnecessary jab, but its not as if its a shocking closely held secret. JLo is in her forties with a very large bottom, it would be a miracle if at that age and size there was no natural jiggle or cellulite. Working out can only combat so much, after which… deal with it. Its called aging and though we walk through the Valley of the Shadow of Cellulite, we will fear no evil hacks shilling poorly written books.

      • WingKingdom says:

Responding to JLo’s booty– she’s talking about Tom Cruise’s wedding. That was years ago! I’ve seen pictures of JLo recently and her body is insane. As CRTB says it is now. People go through periods where they work out more or less. I agree with commenters saying this reflects far more on the writer than the subject.

      • Lahdidahbaby says:

What Kitten said: “It was mean because it was petty as hell. Like she couldn’t just share the anecdote about J Lo being rude without slamming her appearance on top of it. How mature.”

        Ex-freaking-zactly.

    • Luca76 says:

Yup and something about it isn’t very believable either.

    • Merritt says:

Hammel does sound petty and mean. She just has an ax to grind at this point. The attention she is getting might feel good now but it will fade and she will be left with little due her bridge burning.

    • susiecue says:

Yes! I’m all for some good dirt, but she sounds so bitter about so many people that it’s hard to take it all without a grain of salt. People misunderstand/exaggerate situations every day. It’s all so pointed and rude and lacking perspective, in my opinion. Makes her seem juvenile. Kate’s face is collapsing? J-Lo’s butt is flabby? Ok…and her point is THESE people are the jerks?

      • Kitten says:

        Yes you said it all.

      • paranormalgirl says:

I’m taking it with a veritable shaker of salt.

      • JenniferJustice says:

Everything you said! It’s not even dishing dirt when it’s primarily slamming their physical appearance. And who’s to say she didn’t get in JLo’s way and just stood there oblivious in her own little bubble, which happens to the best of us. Just saying we all have good days and bad days. None of us should be judged based on one minuscule snotty act, in passing no less. The Kate’s face thing really bothers me. Who frickin’ cares if the Dutchess doesn’t like the lines in her face? Really? That’s news?

      • I Choose Me says:

I totally agree. Even in the first post about this Hammel lady I thought she was a mean and catty piece of work and I’ll take everything she says with a heaping bucket of salt. I also find it interesting that all of the bigger name celebs are the ones she slagged off on but the other not so profile ones are the nice ones.

    • Who ARE these people? says:

Is she promoting a book or something? It doesn’t seem that she writes all that well.

      • bluhare says:

        Yes, she is.

      • Red Snapper says:

I read the Google preview for the YA mystery she’s spent her whole adult crafting (her words). Its bad. Like super terrible. So…. she’s got a lot to be bitter about.

    • Livvers says:

All her terrible experiences with ‘asshole’ celebrities makes me wonder if there are actually a disproportionate number of celebs who hate People reporters. It’s an essential magazine for celeb-positive stories aimed at the Minivan Majority, but _apparently_ the reporters are venomous backstabbing *alley cats (Me: pictures feral cat population armed with dripping fangs and stiletto daggers). Perhaps the disconnect between journalist personality and fawning PR-friendly story puts the celeb’s hackles up.

*edit: No insult to you, AlleyCat! Must have been subliminal. It’s just, this woman sounds rather ferocious, as does her descriptions of her coworkers and bosses.

      • Lady D says:

Reminds of an old saying, (paraphrased) If you meet an asshole in the morning, he’s an asshole. Meet assholes all day long, you’re the asshole.

    • bluhare says:

The entire piece does not read as mean spirited on the whole. She actually talks about the people she likes more than the people she doesn’t. Her bit on Victoria Beckham starts it and she loved her.

      • qwerty says:

Yeah I think she sounds mean and petty cause only negative bits were quoted here. Not to say she’s nice lol.

    • Sarah says:

This woman could get sued, as could Cosmo, if she is lying. So I tend to believe her.

I’ve thought Kate smiles a lot because she looks so much better smiling. And I’ve felt that Jolie has a serious weight issue for years. Drugs? I don’t know. Meth gives you scabs on your face.

    • Lahdidahbaby says:

Me too. She sounds like an embittered shrew to me. And in general an arsehole.

  3. jb10038 says:

    Yaassss!!!
This is the celebrity insider gossip I need.
That J LAW bit sounds spot on.

    • India Andrews says:

I love the gossip too. Some people seem to foget this is a gossip site amd take everything so earnestly. They criticize the author for calling out body parts that celebs have used to make millions like J Lo’s backside not being so pert. Well, maybe it needs to be called out since J Lo has used it to make how much money? And we’ve been told it is the best backside pre-Kim for how many years? J Lo was calling attention to it long before this author did and was making bank off of it.

  4. Loula says:

I know, we all frequent a site called Celebitchy. But this just seems…well, bitchy. Not in a good way. ‘Collapsing’? She’s hardly Michael Jackson.

    • Tiffany says:

Yeah, I can see if she exposing celebs being just down right cruel but she is acting like she described Lawrence.

      • Erinn says:

Yeah, this. Honestly… I don’t know. I think at the end of the day this wasn’t the industry for her. I mean – there’s a certain expectation that most people have when it comes to celebrities. A lot DON’T want to deal with journalists, or paparazi, or whatever – I wouldn’t go in expecting them to be incredibly lovely and humbled by the interviewer or anything. They SHOULD at least be polite, but other than that? Nah. I wouldn’t expect them to be stoked to talk about the same things over and over and over again – and after reading this womans scorn – I can’t say I blame them for not being into these kinds of interviews.

      • Livvers says:

@Erinn and People, in particular, is one of the most transactional celeb gossip sources around (also TMZ, and US Weekly). This is not a Vanity Fair profile! These celebs are not looking to “connect” with a People reporter or delve deep: They are there to provide PR copy, and the ‘reporter’ is there to type it up.

      • JenniferJustice says:

Who in their right mind would enjoy being interviewed knowing every single thing they say will be dissected, their attire will be picked apart, and heaven forbid they make a questionable facial expression lest they be slaughtered in the public as having a collapsing face! I wouldn’t want to be a celebrity for anything. The constant judging would send me straight into a mental breakdown.

      • Jen43 says:

After reading all these comments, I think Erinn, Llivers and JJ have it figured out. People magazine is a publicist’s tool. There is nothing meaningful or enlightening to read about. Celebrities get bored with the same old, nonsense questions. This writer must fancy herself a journalist and above entertainment, fluff pieces. She should have found work else where.

    • tealily says:

Yeah, I don’t even really understand what she’s saying. Her face looks fine.

    • Little Darling says:

Agreed, there is nothing that I like about this woman, her entitlement and her bash them down tell all. She seemed like an awful
person with the resignation letter and frankly I’m kind of pissed that garnered her all
      of this attention.

I am all for exposing horrible work conditions but she didn’t do it to have People be better people. She did it because she was mad, and that I can’t endorse.

Plus, her comments seem biased and as if she gets pleasure on taking everyone down. It’s awfully unprofessional to expose celebrities like this, since it was her very job to report them.

      Sour grapes this one.

    • India Andrews says:

Look at Kate’s untouched photos when she isn’t filler and botoxed up. Yes, Kate’s face is collapsing. She has the wrinkles of a woman in her mid to late forties and already has the old lady jowels coming in.

  5. Talie says:

Kate doesn’t look like she gets any injections — her face moves and has lines.

The stuff about scabs on Angelina is creepy though…

    • EM says:

…because it’s an indirect way of calling her a junkie.

      • Diana B says:

        Or an anorexic…

      • Katherine says:

How would this woman know anything about drug use by her interviewees?

Enough with the baseless accusations that Jolie is using drugs. There is nothing about her that indicates drug use. Even her admitted past use from some 15 or more years ago seemed to be occasional use no matter how dramatic she tried to portray it.

Kate’s face is not falling apart at her age. This woman reporter sounds like she just needs a paycheck.

  6. Aussie girl says:

Jolie skin always appears to look flawless. I can believe the unhealthy skinny thing. Where are these scabs..? On her arms, body or face I wonder.

    • Eleonor says:

I don’t get the fuzz about Angelina skin: she can apply makup.
For the scabs we should know when she had the chance to meet her: if she was going through some of her medical treatements she probably was thinner than ever, and wasn’t healthy at all.

      • Katherine says:

The woman is conveniently NOT telling you when she interviewed Jolie so you can’t call her out on her BS.

Girls gotta eat. Buy her book. 💸

    • Zapp Brannigan says:

Her skin looks really good in candid pictures too, surely the paps would make a fortune off of “bad skin” photos of AJ if you think of the ways mags could twist that story.

I don’t know this just sounds like trashing a few celebs to drum up interest.

    • Crumpet says:

Maybe she has eczema. I do, and I get these flat little round red patches that then scab. The only thing I can do is cover them up until they go away.

      • Size Does Matter says:

Oh me too with eczema. I didn’t even think of that. My first thought was old acne scars.

      • Who ARE these people? says:

Also see: rosacea. Though she doesn’t seem to have the redness. I thought of old scars, too.

      • Minxx says:

Crumpet – I had them too. It’s a result of having dry skin – as we age, the skin loses its ability to be a moisture barrier and gets more prone to eczema – itchy, red patches (often appar after a hot shower or in dry, cool temps). I had them not only on the face, especially around the nose, but on my upper arms as well. It was awful. Don’t cover them, moisturize with the right moisturizer with lactic acid right after washing – Amlactin is my favorite for the body: cheap and works great after a bath or shower (use it immediately after you towel dry your body and face – this way you trap humidity in the skin). Eucerin or other brands with urea for the face works too but I love Amlactin 12% lactic acid. Water makes my face really dry so I switched to liquid makeup remover and a tonic (to balance the PH). Often use boric acid (liquid) to make my skin softer – I haven’t experienced tightness or dry skin for ages (no wrinkles either) and I’m over 50.

      • AnotherDirtyMartini says:

I do as well. Plus there are many autoimmune diseases that affect the skin. There are loads of reasons before jumping to drug addict, yeesh

      • Cee says:

@Minxx – I used to have eczema everywhere as a child but now I only get it in my face. I use a moisturizer for super dry skin and it changed my life. However I dropped the tonic because it was drying my skin. My makeup removal and cleaning routine just went down to one product + moisturizer and my skin looks 100% better.

    • Samtha says:

Angelina has had multiple preventative surgeries for cancer-related issues, right? It would not be uncommon to have scabs on your hands and arms (and other places) because of all the IVs and blood withdrawals.

Maybe she didn’t “connect” with this lady because she (the journalist) seems mean-spirited and bitchy (and not in a “fun bitch” way).

      • eileen says:

You don’t get scabs on your skin from IV lines and blood draws you get bruising usually. Scabs can happen if the dressing is pulled off and you have thin, fragile, sensitive skin or you are on certain medications or allergic to tape. I think Angelina Jolie had preventative surgeries so she’s not on chemo or undergoing radiation that we know of. I do know I’ve heard she used to cut herself in her youth and she has suffered emotionally with the loss of her mother and issues with her father so I wish her the very best and I think she is a nice person. (I’m an RN)

      • Samtha says:

Eileen, I’m a “hard stick” and I always wind up with some scabbing after a hospital visit. That said, I can’t imagine Angelina would be difficult, since she’s so thin and has large veins.

      • TotallyBiased says:

Eileen–maybe YOU don’t, but I’m looking at a bunch of scabs right now from my last extended hospital stay.
I think this woman just brought her People ‘writing skills’ to the fore, here. And remember, she was fine writing for People and everything that went with it, until they wouldn’t promote her been.

    • Chinoiserie says:

The Jlo thing was old so why can’t the rest be? Angelina conflict have had bad skin at one point.

      • Pepper says:

She has had pretty bad skin at various points. She’s never had amazing skin, she’s just very beautiful and in people’s minds they always go together, so average looking skin becomes a perfect complexion. When she’s not promoting something her skin looks dry and dull. Which, y’know, is no big deal, so there’s no reason for everyone to pretend she’s got perfect skin like say, J.Lo.

    • Ennie says:

Realistically, AJ travels all the time to 3rd world countries, some of them are tropical countries. She could have bites from any trip, including when they went to Ecuador, or Cambodia, etc. Also, she suffered from chicken pox around the premiere of one of her movies. This snipet does not say when she interview her, but it sounds just plain mean. This makes clear to me how People became a tabloid years ago, from being an interesting mag that I sought for its interesting stories back when I was learning English, it became just another tabloid, and it had the reporters that it deserved.

    • tmbg says:

I’m not buying it. AJ has had mild acne in the past and as someone who’s also had it, sometimes a pimple will dry up from treating it and get a little scabby. Maybe that’s what she saw, or the dried-up chicken pox. Otherwise I think this woman is full of crap.

  7. Fa says:

Every interviewer who interviewed angelina said that she has flawless skin than any actresses in Hollywood, and Lainey gossip said when she interviewed her that angelina looked you in the eyes when speaking & she felt intimidated by her because of angelina eye contact with her the whole time

    • Megan says:

Perhaps she had recently had a laser treatment or a peel and was still recovering.

    • Erinn says:

I mean – she could have had a reaction to some kind of medication she was on – it could be as simple as a bit of acne that had mainly healed or something – putting some foundation over that could make it stand out more. I’ve never seen anything that appears to be scabs on her in photos though, so I’m chalking this one up to either BS or just a reaction to whatever she was dealing with medically at the time.

      • Deepa says:

Maybe it was after she recovered from chickenpox that time she had to miss the premiere of one of her movies

    • paranormalgirl says:

I have a friend who has worked with Angelina Jolie on a few films. She said the same thing Lainey did… it’s almost disconcerting how Angelina looks you right in the eyes when speaking to you. And my friend was a “lowly PA” at the time. And she also said Angelina was cool and nice to all the crew and that she had the most luminous skin.

      • Fa says:

Anyone can check all angelina interview on YouTube & you can see angelina looking into the eye of interviewers

      • qwerty says:

Of course she’s gonna be charming when she’s bing recorded, cmon now. She’s an actress and has been in this game for a long time. This means nothing, JLo is charming on camera too and we all know she’s not a nice person.

    • Don't kill me I'm French says:

One of my neighbors is a Belgian movie journalist. He totally disagrees with Hammel on Jolie .He met her 2/3 times for her directed-movies.She is always professional. She is very skinny but she doesn’t look like a junkie.
He agrees on Scarlet Johanssen ( “not nice, arrogant”) .Jennifer Lawrence is a “rude attention seeker”( she interrupted the replies of her colleagues all time) but “not a mean person”.
He disagrees on Douglas (but he changed since his cancer)

His worst interviews with an actor/actress were with Bruce Willis( “awful”) ,ScarJo( for Lucy: she just stopped the interview and stopped all promotion) ,Tom Hardy ( at Toronto last year when Hardy reacted like a spoiled kid ) and Kristine Scott Thomas ( at Cannes fest: she started to yell the journalists at press junket then she dropped the promotion)

His fav interview was with Harrison Ford ( Ford is not interested by the interview or promotion). They talked about movies( a few) then Colorado, planes, horses….he had 15 min .Finally it lasted 45 min

      • I Choose Me says:

Thanks for this DKMIF. I’ll take the word of your neighbour over this woman with a clear axe to grind.

      • Jellybean says:

There are always good days and bad days, but all those comments seem to match up with comments I have read, except Scott Thomas who I have never read anything about. So nice to read the comment about Harrison Ford, I always think of him as a good guy who just can’t handle the BS of celebrity and promotion. I watched ha clip of him on Graham Norton again recently. It was lovely to see Jack Whitehall break down his defenses and allow him to have a good time.

      • Danielle says:

I’ve heard lots about Bruce Willis being an asshole.

    • KB says:

Yeah, the avoiding eye contact thing doesn’t ring true just because I’ve heard so much of the opposite. The scabs I don’t think were supposed to be on her face, and ive never heard of heroin addicts scabbing. That sounds more like cutting or meth. Who knows, the girl clearly has an axe to grind.

  8. Capepopsie says:

I hope she is wrong about Lupita.

    • Jegede says:

I think a poster here has alluded to that about Lupita before. Not sure.

      • qwerty says:

There was also a whole post here on how her costars from a play thought she was rude or a snob or whatever but iirc most people defended her at the time.

    • Farrahh says:

No, I have heard from a few sources similar things about her. During (I think) the Golden Globes years back she snapped her fingers and pointed at something she dropped for someone to pick up like they were an animal.

I don’t think she’s mean, I think she just has this elevated sense of self and the lower people aren’t necessarily included.

      • LOLADOESTHEHULA says:

@Farrahh, wasn’t that from a random comment here though? You’re talking about it like you saw it with your own eyes. Anyway, I’m not buying any of it. This lady sounds like a complete a**hole with a chip on her shoulder.

      • LOLADOESTHEHULA says:

        .

      • Farrahh says:

I don’t think so? I’m almost certain I saw it on Tom and Lorenzo, because I remember us talking about her dress. But it might have been on here? I honestly don’t remember. :p

I just know I read that, and I read a few accounts of how she doesn’t speak to fans/coworkers on her play etc, and honestly, it wouldn’t surprise me. Where there’s smoke, there’s fire.

    • Talie says:

That’s pretty common tea about her, unfortunately.

    • Nancy says:

Yeah that one got my interest too. She never seems overtly friendly on the carpet, but I thought maybe she was shy, a newbie at the time. This woman really has her claws out.

    • Pepper says:

She’s not the first to say it. She’s not even the 10th to say it. There’s some truth in there somewhere.

    • isabelle says:

unfortunately other interviewers have hinted at it.

    • Jellybean says:

I believe she was raised in a very privileged environment in a country with huge differences in wealth and living conditions. It wouldn’t be surprising if she treats people like peasants.

      • Adele Dazeem says:

This. I once worked with a girl from her same area. She had this…this, I don’t know how to word it other than “regality” about her that could put people off. It was completely benign, and we grew to tease her about it as we got to know her, but at first interaction it was off putting. I remember the first time We met, we were in the airport and before she even said hi or introduced herself she handed me her briefcase and said “HOLD THIS,” and walked away. Obviously i was initially quite…annoyed.

    • paleokifaru says:

I’m just going to point out that she grew up in a different culture that includes having a lot of low paid staff on hand to cook, clean, landscape, serve as handymen, nanny, etc. I have spent a lot of time in Kenya and if you have a certain amount of money, or are white, it is expected of you to hire staff and create jobs. I’m American and I always found it awkward to have forced cleaning staff when I rented an apartment. And they seemed shocked whenever I talked to them or thanked them. In a wealthy Kenyan family she would have grown up with several people paid to do her bidding and would think nothing of making demands of those around her. I’m not saying it’s okay to be rude but I have learned that rude takes on a slightly different definition in each culture.

  9. Easypeasy123 says:

So this lady is trashing people to drum up interest in her book? She seems like a nasty piece of work

  10. Lucy says:

This woman sounds like a bitter asshole

  11. Kita says:

It’s not made clear when she was interviewing Angelina Jolie, so it may well have been during the time her mother was ill, or after she died and Jolie said later that she was struggling a great deal (especially trying to weigh the decision on whether to be tested to see if she carried the gene for breast cancer, and whether to have a mastectomy as a result, so she could hopefully protect her children from losing their mother).

    • MrsBPitt says:

or right after AJ’s chicken pox…

      • doofus says:

hey, good call! I mean, how many times did this woman interview her? if it was only once, then it could have been then.

      • Brittney B. says:

Oh man, how did I forget about the chicken pox?!

        Off-topic:

Turning 29 this month (golden birthday on the 29th!) and still haven’t had the Pox. Has anyone here caught them later in life? Because Angie is still the only example I know, and comments about her risk level really scared me. Can I opt for the vaccine?

      • paranormalgirl says:

RIGHT! She did have chicken pox. I’d forgotten about that.

      • lisa2 says:

I saw the chicken pox video.. she still looked gorgeous..

        https://youtu.be/IBu1b5QQrKI

      • mary s says:

        Chicken pox!

      • Betsy says:

Oh my god, can you imagine having to give an interview while your skin still recovers from chicken pox? Awful.

      • fruitloops says:

@BrittneyB, a friend of mine had them as an adult, she had literally 6 poxes (not a native speaker, I don’t know what you call those chicken pox pimples), although they were rather big and it took forever for them to disappear completely. And that’s it, nothing happened, especially not anything bad.
And btw, her then boyfriend hadn’t had them as a kid either, and he didn’t get them from her, strong immunity I suppose.

      • Susan says:

brittanyB, my brother and I never had chicken pox when we were children. When my brother was 31, he got chicken pox from his daughter who picked it up from daycare. He was dreadfully ill. Incapacitated for weeks. This was the 90s and the vaccine was sort of not on our radar. I lived on a different coast so escaped that time. Later, when I was 28, my 27 year old boyfriend got the chicken pox and he suffered terribly too, ended up in the hospital for one night. I ran to the doctor ASAP when he was diagnosed and got the vaccine. The vaccine stopped it in its tracks (the vaccine can also work to reduce the disease after exposure but before full blown sickness). I had one pock on my face and no sickness.

Get the vaccine before you get exposed. The disease only gets worse for you the older you get. God forbid you get it when you are elderly.

      • Susie 1of 3 says:

@Brittney B, I had them as an adult 14 days after my daughter brought them home from her 1st grade class. I was weak in bed for more than a week. Had to force myself to eat something each day knowing I was quite sick. Lots of pocks. Months later at my yearly physical, my doctor said I should have been in the hospital. Internal complications are possible when you’re an adult. I thought I was immune since I didn’t have them as a child. Get the vaccine and be safe. Very dangerous in pregnancy.

      • Minxx says:

I had it when I was about 13 .. looong time ago and it was so awful, I still remember it quite clearly. I was very ill and, unfortunately, I scratched my huge, itchy boils – ended up with pockmarks all over my face for years (my mom just told me “don’t scratch” but didn’t say why.. because it will damage the skin). If I had a choice, I’d get vaccinated, even as an adult.

  12. Jegede says:

The fact that Mischa Barton a known nasty gal in her heyday; a celeb who everyone from random club bouncers to fellow lunchers to Jason Preistley had only negative things to say about when they deigned to be in her space; is described as “really kind” here makes me side eye all this. Like crazy.

    • Kitten says:

      Ha ha..right????
That stuck out for me too.

    • Samtha says:

That immediately made me question anything she has to say.

I wonder how many of her bad interactions with famous people are because of her own attitude.

      • doofus says:

yeah, I don’t remember the exact quote or who said it first, but…

if you meet one a-hole, fine…he’s an a-hole. you meet two a-holes, fine, maybe they’re BOTH a-holes.

but if everyone you meet is an a-hole, maybe YOU’RE the a-hole.

(not well said, but hopefully you get my drift…)

      • Canadian Becks says:

But surely you also read where she counters with a list of other celebrities who are nice and kind?

So your point is not valid in this case.

      • Samtha says:

Why wouldn’t it be valid? She can have a crappy attitude with some people and not with others, no?

      • Canadian Becks says:

@Samtha: It’s clear that doofus was framing it as,
this author, by slagging everyone as an ass, is showing herself to be the ass.

So If you read again what I wrote, you will understand why I said that her point is not valid.

      • doofus says:

and I didn’t say she was slagging everyone as an ass.

I was using an old adage (that contains a superlative) to agree with Samtha and make the point that maybe it’s HER, and not the people she calls out. so, it kinda IS valid.

SMH…didn’t realize we had Basic Composition teachers here.

      • qwerty says:

No. She gave a whole list of people who were kind so your quote just doesn’t apply here.

    • Pepper says:

She had a good rep for her first few years until she got into drugs. Maybe now that she’s clean she’s nice again?

  13. Bishg says:

It doesn’t sound interesting, and it’s not gracious either.
If she had used the form of blind items, subtly hinting at people, but not revealing their names, I would have had more respect for her (plus, it might have added an aura of mystery to otherwise totally boring and gross stories).
I understand that she feels disrespected and used by the industry, but I am sure for any of those horrible anecdotes, she has had at least the same amount of great experiences, plus she has gone to the coolest events and met wonderful people..

    • Chinoiserie says:

Blind items are something I have no respect for. If you say something just say it.

      • qwerty says:

Easy to say when you have nothing on anyone. Go on and make a claim on a very popular blog, like LaineyGossip, that Lady Gaga is cheating on her fiance or Bradley Cooper sleeps with male escorts, then sign it with your name and wait till the lawyers start calling.

  14. Betti says:

Kate’s face does change very quickly but thats mostly down to the press stopping the over the top photoshopping, thou its been pretty obvious that she has used the ‘tox and fillers a lot in the past. She’s got veneers.

I disagree somewhat about the maniacal grinning – she does it to look ‘keen’ and ‘engaged’ for the pap shots, videos tell a different story. I’ve seen videos where as soon as the camera’s start flashing, the gurning begins.

    • Adele Dazeem says:

Yeah, and if this were a connected British reporter–aka Rebecca English, Katie Nicholl or even Tom Sykes–I might take it more seriously. This woman is basically repeating what others are commenting on.

    • Canadian Becks says:

Kate has great cheekbones. When she smiles widely, the “apples” of her cheekbones are prominent, and the entire area of skin around the jaw and corners of her eyes lift which brightens her whole face. Most people’s looks are improved by smiling, especially if we can project the smile into the eyes, too.

This is a very image-conscious woman. She would have studied her appearance from every angle, and I think she knows very well that her face, when smiling looks brighter, more youthful, more attractive. IMO, this is the main reason she smiles incessantly.

When she was first pictured as a mere girlfriend, almost every picture of her was smiling and I recall thinking this is a very good-natured girl because she never seemed to mind the cameras.

With the porcelain teeth veneers, the bleaching, the severe diet that makes her face angular and thus the dimples so prominent, her smile is really one of her best features.

BTW, has anyone else noticed that George is starting to show a dimple on the same side of the face as Kate? I saw it in the pictures from the visit to the airfield. I was convinced neither children had dimples but I think it’s the fat cheeks that hide it, and as he ages and loses the baby fat….

    • graymatters says:

I think you’re right about Kate smiling for the cameras, but this article reminds me of a professor I once studied under. I’m not sure how old she was at the time; I was young and stupid and she was neither. She was very thin, very soft spoken and smiled all the time. I remember being shocked at how cutting some of her remarks on my first paper were. During the final exam I looked up at her and she was gazing contemplatively out a window and her face looked like it slid an inch down her skull. She suddenly looked old and tired in a way I had never before thought of her. Smart, though. I learned a lot in that class.

  15. als says:

Well, we’ve all seen that Ryan Reynolds is a man with high standards, of course he doesn’t like celebrity journalists.
And those standards’ names are Blake Lively and Taylor Swift and Tom Hiddleston.

    • Lou says:

Uhm… I have seen some of his interviews and he is always funny and obliging. Perhaps Hammel does rub people the wrong way. Does anybody really think Reynolds takes himself ‘seriously’?

      • MrsBPitt says:

Lou…I agree…Reynolds always seem funny in his interviews. Maybe the problem isn’t the celebs, maybe the problem is Hammel!

      • Cee says:

Lou – I worked in the entertainment business and was there when the talen was being interviewed and most are pros at turning ON/OFF. Some don’t even say “Hello” until the cameras are on and suddenly they are so charming and polite.

That job opened my eyes at how the whole thing works.

      • Pepper says:

Yes, definitely, he takes himself super seriously. He’s funny, but rarely if ever in a self-deprecating way, and he has no sense of humor about his bad movies. He’s relaxed a little over the years, but he’s still really unhappy about his place on the Hollywood food chain and it shows.

      • qwerty says:

Can we stop saying than an actor must be nice cause he’s nice when on camera?

    • Aussie girl says:

Yes!!! Ryan always comes off well in the interviews I’ve heard or seen.

    • Brittney B. says:

If blinds are to be believed (and let’s face it, they usually aren’t — CDAN recently based a whole post on a comment I made here), Ryan’s attendance was rewarded monetarily. Blake brought him in exchange for a fee and a promise of a future lifestyle site collaboration.

      • Bridget says:

I don’t take CDAN’S word for anything, but even a blind person could figure out that Blake and Ryan were there because it would be good press/good connections to make, not because they’re actual friends with that crew.

      • Lou says:

No. I cannot believe this either. He would not have that tired, disinterested expression at the 4th of July bash on which the internet went wild. In addition, why should we assume that TSwift and THiddlleston are unworthy of associating with? Isn’t it exceedingly supercilious? What other celebrity would have commented as Deadpool did on Ryan Reynolds, i.e. himself?

      • Jellybean says:

I have noticed CDAN and other blind sites just regurgitating comments and in those cases they stood out because they were clearly utterly ridiculous. My favorite was that Jeremy Renner didn’t actually have a daughter, he just borrowed one of his nieces for pap walks. That was just from some nutter who stalked comment sections, fixated by his middle aged sister’s less than flat belly.

      • qwerty says:

        Wow, what comment was that?

CDAN is full of it. They have like 5 blinds a day, no one has that kind of access.

      • Samtha says:

Qwerty, a LOT of people who do have access give tips/gossip to CDaN because the site is popular. It’s not so much that the bloggers who post have access but that people who do have access will send stuff in.

That said, a lot of it is BS.

    • Eden75 says:

I’ve met RR before, in Vancouver, and he was the exact opposite of this. He was in line for coffee with some other guy, not looking like some celebrity and was very kind to the people who recognized him. No one really mobbed him but he was sweet enough to take pictures and say hi. There was no sense that he was doing it because he had to, he seemed to really enjoy his fans.

Maybe these celebs had attitude towards her because she’s a bit*h. I don’t know her, so I have no idea but these bits and pieces don’t make her come across very well.

      • Alyce says:

Most fans who have met Blake or Ryan IRL have said that they are really nice. I do actually think they are both pretty low key when not promoting anything and I’ve heard that they act very normal when out and about.

  16. Kate says:

If her statements about Jennifer Lawrence are true, and I believe they probably are, it explains so much of her behavior to me.
And I wouldn’t expect anything different from Angelina. She does seem like a woman who does much good in the world, but I also think she knows she does good and expects deference for that and her status.
I know these are probably unpopular sentiments but I think part of the way celebrities act has to do with the gossip magazines themselves placing them on pedestal of mythical proportions.

  17. MrsBPitt says:

The comment about Angelina’s face threw me for a loop, too! I have always envied her beautiful skin.

    • Virgilia Coriolanus says:

I thought it was weird because the only time I’ve ever seen her had bad skin was when she was younger/before she had kids and used drugs……….

  18. Sixer says:

Wow! Much of this is too mean, even for me.

    • Birdix says:

Agreed. And what can she have left to reveal in her book?

    • Tiffany says:

Boy, you know when Sixer says it’s too far, you believe it.

      • Sixer says:

Haha. Mind you, I never comment on a celebrity’s appearance, unless it’s to be complimentary. I love to mock them, but body/face-shaming is not my thing at all.

  19. Bex says:

I’ve heard from more than one person that JLaw is not all she’s cracked up to be.

I feel rather sorry for Kate. I know she signed up for it but the pressure and scrutiny must be relentless.

  20. Marigold says:

She seems like a bitter jerk with a chip on her shoulder. Not interested in anything she has to sell.

  21. Squiggisbig says:

i have a friend that saw Angelina and Brad on vacation years ago and he said the same thing about how thin and obviously, at least in appearance, unhealthy she is. I think the exact words were “ghoulishly thin.” He did say that Brad is super good looking and quite nice.

    • GingerNYC says:

I saw them on vacation once too, that’s funny. This was before they had all the kids, maybe only 2 or 3 at the time? So she wasn’t yet ill but she was amazingly skinny. Really frail looking and oddly covered up all the time. It was quite hot and yet she was always in long pants and/or wearing long sleeves. She was never in shorts or a bathing suit, and I remember thinking that she was so thin that she was either still cold all the time or else she knew she just didn’t look good w/out all those clothes on.

      • Ennie says:

Maybe she hates tanning? I have seen her wearing shorts on some yatch or boat with Brad a few years ago.

      • LAK says:

I tend to think that AJ doesn’t do beach bikinis. She’s always covered up. The only time she’s shown major skin seems to be in movies or photoshoots.

  22. Snowpea says:

I read that Hammell piece t’other day and for someone who’s apparently an experienced hack, it read very amateurly IMO.

But Anyhoo Ill bite: I have always liked JLo so find it hard to believe she’s actually a meanie BUT that bit about her wobbly bum was just delicious to a fellow wobbly bum lady ; )

Plus Angelina and her scabs! What’s that about? Sounds like Hammell is implying AJ is on the meth or something.

    • MrsBPitt says:

I felt like Hammel was def allluding to drug use, when describing AJ…..Hammel sounds like the National Enquirer!

  23. littlemissnaughty says:

I’m really not surprised at all although I draw the line at the Jolie description. That has nothing to do with the woman herself but with the fact that Hammel felt uncomfortable in her presence. So she rags on her looks? Looks that sound like health issues. If she goes after their behavior, I’m okay with it. But this sounds unnecessarily viscious. I’m also super disappointed about Alan C. and Jon Bon Jovi.

    • honeybee blues says:

I had a few dealings with Jon Bon Jovi in the 90’s with my work for a large non-profit, and a nicer man never drew breath. His wife is equally kind and thoughtful. So, either he was having a bad day, or she’s the problem. I’m a long time fan of the Blues; wouldn’t know a Bon Jovi song if I heard one, so not saying this as a fan. I was the Exec. Asst. to the Chairman/CEO of the world’s largest non-protit, and he was a very helpful celebrity spokesperson. My boss sent a big food and wine basket for the birth of their last child, and Jon called ME to thank me, as he knew I’d been the one to handle all the details of the gift. And, I never met him. All of this was via telephone over a 4-year period. I think SHE might be the problem.

    • Nikki says:

Sorry I didn’t read your comment before posting later. I live in New Jersey, and have bumped into Jon Bon Jovi on 3 separate occasions, and he was incredibly nice all 3 times. I also volunteer with Family Promise, a program for homeless families, and Bon Jovi invites every homeless person to eat at his restaurant for FREE, repeatedly, and not for the press. Lots of people here have Jon Bon Jovi stories, and they’re all about how kind, friendly, and down to earth he is, so it aggravates me to read her trash talk. I’m not saying this as a groupie either; I’m actually an orchestral musician into classical repertoire!

    • Fallon says:

I met Jon Bon Jovi at a meet and greet once during a Soul game and he was charm personified. Even though I stuttered and blanked while talking to him. Seemed genuine and took the time to talk to everyone without making you feel like he was ticking off how long until he could escape.

  24. roses says:

Interesting on her experiences with Lupito, Lawrence, Jolie, and Middleton. Very mean spirited but I guess she’s trying to sell a book.

  25. MinnFinn says:

Didn’t Jolie have chicken pox? Maybe that’s when Hammel interviewed her.

    • roses says:

If that’s when she interviewed her then, that’s a low blow to use something like that as a way to sell a book but then again if she’s a mean-spirited person she doesn’t care.

      • MinnFinn says:

I figured this is marketing click-bait to get people to buy the book. If she’s doing the normal bait and switch routine, in the book she will disclose that OBTW AJ had chicken pox.

    • Who ARE these people? says:

      Good point.

  26. Mar says:

She sounds like a NASTY BIATCH. Sorry

  27. Micki says:

That sounds like bitchiness for the sake of it. Not funny, nothing new and overall hollow. Every low-tier rag can write it.

  28. roses says:

    .

  29. alona says:

I didn´t quite understand JLaw thing….so Hammel says Jennifer expects you to be grateful she is funny or?

  30. Rapunzel says:

I’ve always thought criticizing Kate for grinning is low. She smiles cause the press would have a field day with rumors of trouble if she was stone faced. She honestly can’t win there. That’s one thing I won’t hate on her for. There are far more serious issues regarding her.

As for Jolie, I strongly suspect this was chicken pox time. Her face is clearly not scabby…

    • Pepper says:

The issue is that she has a gigantic smile on her face at times when it’s not appropriate eg. during people’s very somber speeches at memorials and in moments that are about showing respect. No one wants her to stop smiling, just to stop smiling when it’s wildly inappropriate.

No one else is ever smiling during these moments. If Camilla doesn’t get dragged for not grinning like a loon during a war memorials proceedings Kate certainly isn’t going to be.

    • Nic919 says:

There were a fair amount of pictures at the recent memorials in France were she was smiling or grinning while the others around her were not, including Harry. There is also a photo of her twirling her hair and grinning at a Remembrance Day ceremony with Sophie giving her a massive side eye. It is really unprofessional demeanour for an adult woman so I think it is fair to criticize her on the fact that she doesn’t seem to understand proper decorum at certain events.

  31. joanne says:

i don’t believe the part about J.Lo.’s wobbly bum. that woman works out constantly. the recent photo of her with Lin-Manuel Miranda shows the muscles in her abdomen. why would her butt not be in great shape?
as for Angelina Joli, she is always described as being other worldly beautiful. Lainey gossip said she could not stop looking at her.
i think this woman is bitter and not very nice.

    • MinnFinn says:

I believe it because there are photos of her at the times in her life when she hasn’t been working out.

    • Pepper says:

This was a almost a decade ago. J.Lo really stepped up her workouts 4-5 years ago, before that she was still toned, but a bit softer looking. She’s lost some weight too, especially in her lower body. I’d buy her butt was a bit wobbly back then, frankly it’s just gravity. Unless you’re all muscle, if your butt is big enough is bound to move around a bit.

  32. EM says:

She is like a whistleblower. Telling it like it is. She is essentially calling all these celebrities what they are: Fake.

  33. Crumpet says:

This lady seems unhinged. I did like the bit about J.Lo though. But to call her butt ‘untoned’? Even fit ladies can have jiggly bottoms. It’s time to do away with mean comments about wiggly bits on women IMO. And ‘collapsing’ bits for that matter.

  34. Sofia says:

Wow,this woman really sounds nasty and I think she is really mean. Funny, one very famous journalist in my country interviewed (over the past couple of years) Angelina Jolie, Richard Gere, Jack Black, Rachel Weisz and some other big stars. Angelina was in our country and she was described by many people as nice person that actually takes time to look at the person while that person speaks. Also Richard Gere was here couple of years ago and the same journalist said that he was very nice and down to earth. The same goes for Rachel. What actually kind of dissapointed me was her interview with Jack Black, entire interview was bad and she said that he is not funny or nice in person.

  35. HK9 says:

Sometimes, you get what you give. If you’re bitchy, people will be bitchy back-simple.

  36. sofie says:

I’m sure we will hear more from this woman as she wants her 15 minutes. She is trying to hype her book so she is giving calculated soundbites to get PR. That’s the reason she quit in the first place, because people didn’t hype her book. Just another famewhore to me. We all know some celebs can be assholes but this woman sounds like no prize either.

    • mary s says:

Yes, she quit because her book wasn’t given any free press, right? I would say that the magazine didn’t want to be associated with her book. She’s probably been like this her whole career. It sounds as if she may have self esteem issues which causes her to become overly sensitive and defensive in her interactions with other people. The book sounds like it would be uncomfortable to read, and maybe the negative feedback it’s already getting (at least from this site) will break her down enough to seek help for her insecurities. She doesn’t come across as a content person, and life is too short to wallow in negativity.

  37. Juniper says:

Most writers are idiots who steal other people’s ideas and life stories and are willing to sell their souls for some print action.

  38. Fa says:

JENNIFERJUSTICE, angelina never said she was addicted she said she used some drugs & we don’t know which one & she never went to rehab for it because she was not addicted so stop saying she was drugs addict

    • sushi says:

      Fa> I second that.

    • Pepper says:

Uh, plenty of addicts never step foot inside rehab or even attend any AA or NA programs.

    • Adele Dazeem says:

I think this is a semantics issue. I understand the desire to defend Jolie but I think the key point JJ was trying to make was about her past drug use, which Aj Has been open about.

      • Katherine says:

No, JJ keeps insisting that it’s a fact Jolie is using now. Thank goodness she has Jolie on speed dial so she can confirm all this for us. 🙄

    • qwerty says:

Yeah like she’d make a press conference about her rehab.

  39. Tara says:

With all the makeup these stars wear, we really don’t know what they look like. I once met my local newscaster and I couldn’t believe how pockmarked she was. And that was just a local newscaster, she certainly didn’t have access to the makeup artists these stars have. And most of these interviews are just puff pieces, so of course they’re not going to tell you the truth about the celebrity they’re interviewing. I laugh when I read them. Doesn’t anyone else? They are filled with sycophantic fawning, and it’s so over the top.

  40. Betsy says:

The collapsing face thing confuses me.

    • LAK says:

Collapsing face is a hazard of botox/fillers users. When you stop using them, your face looks so much worse than when you started. The muscles tend to atrophy from lack of use leading them to droop without the botox to hold them up. That’s what they mean by a collapsing face.

It’s not a reference to bone structure, but to facial skin. Hollywood actresses who’ve dieted themselves down to unreasonable sizes end up suffering this phenomenon. The face or bottom conundrum. They deal with it by using botox and fillers to lift their faces to counter the drooping, lose skin of their under-weight faces.

Kate’s face has been mentioned often. The droopy jowls, the wrinkles or how haggard she looks when not photoshopped to oblivion, yet after the botox applications, she looks refreshed and not at all droopy, wrinkled or haggard.

Before the world became PC, a person with such a face, usually a result of over-dieting, was said to have a collapsing face. These days, the same can be applied to long-term botox/fillers users if or when they stop using and go back to their natural faces.

      • Betsy says:

Oh. I guess I would have just said, “too thin” instead of “collapsing, but that makes sense.

      • MinnFinn says:

Betsy thanks for asking and LAK thanks for answering because collapsing face confused me too.

      • Adele Dazeem says:

Thanks for the clarification LAK, it confused me too!

  41. AnotherDirtyMartini says:

I haven’t read a word of this yet, but the headline has me dying!

  42. Nancy says:

Now this sounds like a bitter women to me, particularly in regard to Angelina Jolie and JLo. I guess people who enjoy National Inquirer type rags will love to hear the dirty deets on the “stars.” Mean spirited, but I have to use the much overused expression(s) payback and karma are a bitch. She will make no new lunch friends.

  43. FingerBinger says:

Who smiles because their face is collapsing? That’s the funniest thing I’ve ever read.

    • Cee says:

She smiles to make her skin appear taut, not because she’s happy her face is collapsing (which means her skin is sagging and her muscles are not great).

  44. Freddy Spaghetti says:

I love that because she dared to say that Angelina Jolie is too thin (which I think she is), everyone is jumping down her throat.

Meanwhile Taylor Swift visits a children’s hospital, word only leaks because people she saw and the hospital posted about it, but she’s a rodent and a desperate pr shill.

The double standards that show up on threads here can be mind boggling.

    • Twodollars says:

Yeah, people here have serious cases of St. Angie Syndrome. They won’t allow any negative criticism of Angelina. Personally, I wouldn’t be surprised if she was on drugs again. She has looked unhealthy for a long time now with being too skinny and having waxy skin. She also seems like she buys her own press about how awesome she is.

      • Katherine says:

Rather you can say some people have an aversion to baseless lies. Criticize all you want but don’t make shite up because you don’t like her.

    • Betsy says:

      Yeah, but…
Angelina has a history of hard drug use and her health isn’t great.

    • sushi says:

How do you know the same people who both defend Jolie and bash Taylor Swift.

    • Samtha says:

It’s not the “too thin” part that people have a problem with. I’d say 99% of us agree that Angie is obviously underweight.

  45. mytake says:

As for J. Lo at Tom Cruise’s wedding? IDK, I read Leah Remini’s book, Troublemaker, and a chunk of the book is dedicated to Tom and Katy’s wedding. Judging from Remini’s book, J. Lo was put through the Scientology recruitment ringer at that wedding — creepily so. And I am sure by the time some celebrity journalist from People, of all places, came sniffing around for quotes, J. Lo was probably sufficiently creeped out and just wanted to leave. In fact, I think she and her husband did charter a plane early to escape the Scientology rush event that was the Cruise-Holmes wedding.

    • Jellybean says:

That is exactly the problem. We get snippets without the context. We were also talking recently about the fact that sometimes the people reporting do not get the sense of humor of the person they are interviewing. I also believe that sometimes they misunderstand a comment intentionally. People with a dry sense of humor can easily come across as callous and rude, so they make for great click-bait headlines. We all know that nothing matters as much as clicks, certainly not the truth.

  46. LOLADOESTHEHULA says:

That bit about J. Lo’s bum was gross and uncalled for, what an arse.

  47. Cee says:

I find it hilarious that Ashton Kutcher takes himself seriously.

    • LAK says:

You should read the opening chapter of a book called ‘ the worst date ever’ by Jane Bussmann. She had a decade or so of being an entertainment reporter and has a very funny page in the opening chapter about the shenanigans Ashton (or his people) puts her through when she tries to interview him for an article.

It’s a serious book with a serious message, but it starts off with her adventures in hollywood where she’s trying to earn a living as an entertainment reporter.

  48. Lylainthecity says:

Hmmm….I know many people who’ve met Angelina and say her skin is fantastic. My cousin is a studio executive and says Angelina is beautiful, but her stare could be disconcerting.

  49. M.A.F. says:

    How does ones face “collapse”?

I take whatever this woman has to say with a grain of salt. The last post on her, with her open letter, sounded bitter because People didn’t want plug some book of hers. She also has to sell a book.

  50. KOri says:

Depending on when the scabs occured, and where (if they did) it could mean more than drug use. She’s well-known for being super-stressed out and over-extended (film work, children, husband, humanitarian issues) and I know people who, when nervous and stressed, pick at their skin. Another option would be her surgery. It would’ve put her into menopause and whacking out your hormones can lead to sometimes awful skin itching. I’m in perimenopause now and sometimes my skin itches so badly and I often wind up with scratches or red marks because I’m rubbing on it. But whatever the reason, the author is definitely trying to make it seem like drug use by playing on her past history and being vague.

  51. JenniferJustice says:

I’m way more interested in the Travolta scandal on the People Mag cover – right column. Hmmm…what’s up with that these days? Celebitchy, do tell.

  52. Apples says:

What does “collapsing” even mean? Kate doesn’t looks like she’s getting fillers or Botox or any work done. Just compare her face to that of another Kate, of Beckinsales whom I personally find stunning. She has obviously had work done.

    • LAK says:

Kate has had botox for most of her married life.

The worst period was during 2012 when she developed bunny lines. A tale tell sign of botox.

  53. emma says:

A lot of this doesn’t seem like good gossip. It’s more like subjective feelings and maybe a little personal insecurity.

  54. sofie says:

Jolie could be suffering from a side affect from medication for her menopause? My mum’s skin would blister from her medication. As for not being connected? She is an actor not an entertainer offscreen. She answers interview questions, she doesn’t have to pretend like their bff’s unlike some celebs who are so desperate to be liked. As usual she saved her savage soundbites about the women instead of the men because she knew the gossip sites & tabloids would get more attention for trashing women.

  55. Pepper says:

This site can be hilarious sometimes. The meanest comments in this article are things that are said here very regularly, and the rest is very tame by the usual standard of comments.

It is all horribly mean-spirited and petty and based on perceptions, but if any of that bothers you why on earth are you here?

    • rubywoo says:

I totally agree! It’s bitchy and a bit of fun (hence the name of the website) i don’t come to a gossip website to engage in politically correct conversation and constant debate’s about what is considered ‘body shaming’ in todays society. It all gets so serious now! There’s no fun or light-heartedness in the comments here anymore, just constant stick up the ass! Escapism can be smart’? There’s no escapism here!

      • Adele Dazeem says:

I agree. It’s tough, I come here for a light hearted break from the seriousness of my job (and let’s be real, what is going on in this country and the world today). I used to really enjoy the comments, but lately it’s gotten very defensive and angry, like people itching for a fight.

    • Canadian Becks says:

@rubywoo, totally agree! You know what else? We’re all grown-ups who choose to frequent a site that is a forum for bitching about and criticizing any celebrity. As far as I am concerned, no one should be chiding anyone, censuring anyone (note that I used “censure”, and not “censor”) for the opinions we express. Personally, I leave any PC sensibilities at the door when I come here.

  56. Elisa the I. says:

Hammel is German for wether/mutton so she seems to live up to her name!

  57. Pip says:

I’m with Ryan Reynolds on this: I don’t want to waste any time on this woman, having never met her, either.

Also, I have no idea if Angelina Jolie has to take Tamoxifen (hormone treatment to reduce the risks of breast cancer) but it often plays havoc with your skin.

    Horrible article. Foul bitter woman.

  58. Iridescent says:

Google heroin scabs. It happens. If Hammel is implying drug use, then it is doubtful she is talking about meth or amphetamine-like drugs, particularly considering her description of how Angelina behaves.

    • Virgilia Coriolanus says:

I googled them and it said it’s from incessant picking/scratching at the skin while high.

  59. Guesto says:

I love my gossip but it must be delivered with funny, intelligent, well-written snark for me to engage with it.

This Hammel woman fails on every count.

  60. Kitkatk8 says:

Hmm this “information” is….random? To say the least

As for Angelina – I thought it was common knowledge she was a (legitimate) methadone patient?

    • qwerty says:

Yeah it’s not that easy to just get off heroin (which is not to say it can’t be done) and I wouldn’t be surprised if she was on a sub, or used to be.

    • Katherine says:

No it is not common or uncommon knowledge. Where do you get this nonsense from? Seriously what’s your source?

  61. Nikki says:

I live in New Jersey and have had several Jon Bon Jovi sightings, and each time he’s been incredibly nice. I’m a volunteer with s program for homeless families, and Bon Jovi invites every homeless person in the program to eat at his restaurant for free. I’m not buying her diss!

  62. Caz says:

I love it when insiders tell it how it really is!!!

  63. Matador says:

Sounds like her first round of “gossip” – not to mention her ridiculous resignation letter – didn’t work and Hammel is desperate for any attention. Ignore.

  64. Meadow says:

I think Kate is just overcompensating in the manic grin department, lack of self-confidence and a desire to appear to be doing what is expected of her (so pleased to be here….meet you etc) , it’s a performance rather than a natural reaction to the situation or pleasure at meeting people unlike Sophie, Camilla and Harry who are very genuine and natural with people and obviously like their jobs

    • Citresse says:

Agreed. If she was so pleased and engaged with the public, she’d look forward to every opportunity re- public speaking. The constant grinning hides a lot of insecurity and may be a sign of a certain measure of denial, meaning I wonder if perhaps William’s behaviour occasionally crosses the line into belittling, real nastiness towards Kate?

  65. Silvie says:

On Ryan Reynolds – back in the days when he was dating Alanis, I used to see him around Brentwood all the time. He’d get coffee at Peet’s, where one of my friends worked, and he was not only always very friendly but a good tipper, too. In his case he might just not like dealing with press. I believe everything else – I went to college w/Angelina and she was a legit nutcase. But RR seems like a genuinely good dude. I’ve seen Jennifer Garner in person many times around the neighborhood and she’s absolutely gorgeous.

  66. PatriotsPower27 says:

As others have already said, Sara Hammel seems off on her assessment of Angelina Jolie. I’m not in the entertainment industry at all but I met Angelina Jolie back in 2005 when she visited Pakistan after a devastating earthquake hit the country. The first thing I remember was how thin she was but still simply stunning with flawless skin. The second thing I couldn’t shake was how intense her eyes were when communicating with you — she wanted to connect while talking. Finally, I wish I had a Twitter back then because I could’ve scooped her relationship with Brad Pitt. He showed up as her companion but his name wasn’t openly listed on the manifest. He kind of just stayed in the background while she did her thing thanking the military for their relief efforts and engaging with all of the displaced locals. Not sure what angle Ms. Hammel is shooting for but I am really questioning the validity of her other statements based on my personal accounts.

  67. Andie88 says:

I actually saw AJ a few years ago at an upscale mall. She was frighteningly skinny (her legs were the size of my arm, It looked like she was only skin and bones .) Her face was flawless and matte looking.

  68. Bibi says:

Even if they are not GREAT names compared to A-listers I am glad to read Emily Deschanel was nice. I’ve always felt like she is classy and sweet (never met her). I friend of mine recognized Jack Black in an airport a few years ago, and even though he look tired he was EXTREMELY nice to her: took pictures, sign autographs and asked how her flight went. I saw Dr Phil on lite train twice at Dallas and he was sweet and down to earth. Awww…
