Donald Trump accepts the GOP nomination in a dictatorial, negative speech

155239PCN_Trump018

As I prepared myself to watch Donald Trump accept his party’s nomination last night in Cleveland, I read this New York Magazine piece, “Republicans in Chaos Must Decide Whether to Elect a Madman.” The gist of it was that never before in the history of the Republican party has the presidential nominee been so ignorant, so shambolic, so dangerous, so crazy. This year’s RNC was widely derided – by press, GOP and Democrats alike – as one of the stupidest sh-tshows of all time. So that sets us up for what went down last night.

First, billionaire madman Peter Thiel spoke. He was well-received and perhaps even likeable, if you don’t think too much about how he thinks democracy is being ruined by women voting. Then there was a short biographical video narrated by Jon Voight, a longtime Trump friend and hard-right wingnut. Voight has no problem, it seems, with Trump’s history of saying terrible things about his daughter, Angelina Jolie.

Then Ivanka Trump came out to introduce her father. Ivanka is her father’s favorite child, and she’s honestly the most likeable Trump (setting the bar pretty low, but still) and she’s Trump’s de facto “first lady.” The thing about it is… I actually liked Ivanka’s speech. I don’t believe Trump is pro-woman in any way, but Ivanka’s speech was more of a continuation of her own brand and core issue, which is the de-stigmatization of working mothers. Ivanka says her father employs her even though she’s a mom, so… vote for him? Or something. Then Trump came out. He ended up giving the longest nomination-acceptance speech in four decades. He just went on and on and on. It felt longer too because it was so dark, so negative and so hateful.

This would have been a good speech if one was aiming for “I want to sound like an American Mussolini.” He kept talking about his plan, and you won’t be able to believe his plan, his plan for America is going to be huge, he’s going to do so much, but HE HAS NO PLAN. He just wants to throw whatever bulls—t to the wall and see what sticks. And most of what he said IS bullsh-t – all of the factcheckers were throwing hissy fits last night over all of the lies Trump spewed. It’s also striking that much like Mitt Romney’s speech in 2012, Trump barely mentioned the military. He mentioned veterans, but Trump was so busy wrapping himself in the mantle of “law and order” that he didn’t talk about the hundreds of thousands of men and women serving in the military.

The reviews weren’t great, as you can imagine. Most media outlets were talking about the dark and negative tone. Bernie Sanders was live-tweeting the speech and Bernie ended up having the most re-tweets of the night. I’m including the tweet below, plus a few extras.

God. What a piece garbage. Look at that turd’s face.

    • Bluebelle says:

“My father employs me even though I’m a mom…” there is so much wrong with that statement that it would fill a newspaper. You’re his daughter! Your IQ could be below 20 and he would still employ you! If he wins the election, just as soon as they announce it he should just drop dead, I can’t sugarcoat it.

      • The Eternal Side-Eye says:

Every woman in Trump’s life should be grateful Trump doesn’t ditch them and replace them with a prettier (hasn’t had children) model. Even his daughter apparently.

      • Bluebelle says:

And also as if being a mom automatically disabled you from working and left you brain dead. I get that she’s trying to make his father appealing, but she should’ve had some help from Melania for that speech.

      • doofus says:

“but she should’ve had some help from Melania for that speech.”

“but she should’ve had some help from MICHELLE for that speech.”

        There, FIFY… 🙂

      • SusanneToo says:

@bluebelle. Unfortunately, then Pence would step in and he’s a true believer in all that neo-Nazi stuff. Trump just spews verbal diarrhea, whatever flies with the low information voter.

      • Jwoolman says:

Apparently Pence will be de facto President if Trump is elected. The Donald was courting vice presidential candidates by telling them they would be the most powerful VP in history, essentially in charge of domestic and foreign policy. Kasich’s staffer confirmed this. (Kasich wasn’t interested.) Not surprising since The Donald is actually pretty lazy. He keeps busy aggrandizing himself but doesn’t do much real work.

In one speech at the convention (was it the acceptance speech?), he included an infomercial for several of his alleged businesses, with products displayed on a table. He dared the media to check out what he said about how he owned this and that. So someone did, I think it was Trevor’s show that went into it in detail. The winery he claimed has a disclaimer on their web site saying they are not owed or managed by Trump. The magazine he claimed had gone out of business quite a while ago after a few issues, the copy he tossed into the audience was actually a brochure for his resorts. The Trump steaks had fallen by the wayside a long time ago, he only peddled them in the Sharper Image catalog and the CEO said very few were sold. The bottled water on the table was used in his resorts/restaurants but it was actually some generic brand with his name slapped on the label. Trump also licenses his name for use on many things he doesn’t actually own or manage.

      • Pabena6 says:

        @bluebelle
No, because then we’d have Mike Pence!!! Perhaps* not equally dangerous, since he’s not a visibly raving lunatic, but still pretty damn dangerous.

        *at least I hope

      • Maire3 says:

“My father employs me even though I’m a mom…” should be this election’s “Binders full of Women”

Canadian here. I love Donald Trump and do not understand all the animosity. Ivanka was awesome as well. Gorgeous and classy lady. At least Trump is not a criminal like your democratic nominee, LOL.

      • Myrna says:

        Thank you, @Eileen!
        I’m in total agreement.

      • hmmm says:

I bet you voted for Harper.

      • EM says:

Everyone is entitled to their opinion but of coarse people were pretty fond of Hitler, Mussolini, Pol Pot, Castro, etc.

      • Snowflake says:

So did you love it when he compared his wife to another opponent’s, I think it was cruze’s wife, and said, look at her, do you want a first lady that looks like that? Melania is what a first lady should look like. Or when he said we should put a ban on Muslims coming into the country? Not all Muslims are terrorists. Or when he got into with Megan Kelley and said nasty things about her, implying she was on her period? Or when he talked about how Joe Biden practically got on his knees and gave him a blow job, he wanted the job so badly. Those comments are reasons why I don’t like him. But I started not liking him when he sided with all the racists during Obama’s run, saying he wanted to see Obama’s birth certificate. That really turned him against me

      • Truthie says:

You need to read more. 2 RICO cases and a rape case – of a minor – are in the courts right now. Trump’s 3500 lawsuits are a record for a presidential nominee. http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/elections/2016/06/01/donald-trump-lawsuits-legal-battles/84995854/

We Americans like to make fun of Canadians for being too mellow. Guess Canada has got a few right wing nut jobs of its own. Who knew?

Actually, I don’t believe you’re Canadian at all. Since when do Canadian’s use the term “classy”?

Canadian here also. I hate The Donald.

You think that someone who has said “We’re going to win at the military, we’re going to win at trade,” is somehow competent to e Commander In Chief of one of the largest superpowers in the World?

Forget your vote–I’m just desperately hoping that you do not teach in my school district.

      • Keaton says:

        Thank you Truthie.
Every negative thing people say about Hillary applies even more to Trump:
Liar? Trump iies like he’s breathing
Criminal? There’s far more proof that Trump is a criminal than Hillary is
Dangerous for our foreign policy? Trump is aggressively ignorant, volatile, and thin skinned. There’s a good reason The Economist, a far from liberal magazine said Trump was a serious world wide danger.

I can understand why some are disappointed in Hillary and find it hard to muster enthusiasm for her but I will never understand how anyone could see her as worse than Trump. That level of willful ignorance and brain washing absolutely blows me away.

    • Rayya Kirt says:

I am shocked that this orange paradigm of patience, tolerance and wisdom is essentially being called an uneducated megalomaniac. After all, he only supposedly raped his first wife once but she said it was more of a violation so there. He is only racist when he’s speaking about different races so it’s not like all the time or anything. He only judges people by their looks when so-called ugly people have the nerve to wander into his line of vision because if you were as beautiful as Trump, you’d know that’s considered assault and it could be contagious. He is kind enough to let his latest wife speak and seems empathetic enough to change her batteries all by himself. He is wise enough to resist dating his daughter while she is still married. And, lest we forget, he is great with explaining to the working class how great he will make America, just not for them because why worry them and have them stress out enough to go to a doctor he will never allow them to afford. That is consideration right there. He is the best of any sociopath we have ever seen and deserves everything I am positive he will ultimately get from blessed karma. #Trumpmakeamericahateagain

      • Mytbean says:

“…change her batteries all by himself” LOL

I scared my dogs half to death. 🙂

  2. Pinky says:

    It put me to sleep.

Gotta admit, he has some charisma at times and can seem somewhat personable, but his speech was also cliched, inaccurate, blustering, and, clearly, boring. Sad!

    –TheRealPinky

    • EM says:

That’s the problem as we go into the debates. Trump knows very little, is not interested in any of the social issues but he is a pit pull with Hitler-ish charisma. Clinton is intelligent and involved in many of the issues facing this country but is as engaging as a paper bag. If the voters were to truly focus on platforms and issues, Clinton would win but they are caught up in the cult-like personality of Trump. Trump’s campaign is the embodiment of this quote: “Make the lie big, make it simple, keep saying it, and eventually they will believe it” – Adolf Hitler

      • gwen says:

This is where it’s going to get really interesting…the debates. Hillary is so much smarter than Trump and I’m so anxious for everyone watching to see just how she proves it. I have a fantasy that he’ll get so wound up over what she has to say that he’ll kick over the podium in a rage.

      • Rayya Kirt says:

Trump is not interested in actual issues and those voting for him are usually not extremely informed. It’s a match made in one orange idiot screaming loud enough at a group of uneducated followers who don’t read enough so sadly, vote against their best interests. I personally see this demographic all the time…it’s either the rich and greedy or the poor and ignorant that veer toward the right. Trump doesn’t even have a stance or idea. He is a poorly brought up rich boy who failed more than he had ever succeeded but had been given every chance due to his name and arrogance whilst calling everyone else a loser in way of projecting. In any other life, his hair alone is a felony. Certain people this orange smug faced child panders to only need to hear three things to make them excited: Kill terrorists … and by that he means everyone who is not white. Murrica rocks, Bro her eyes said yes.

      • Ricky Ticky says:

@Em: You make a good point. Maybe Trumps thinks that if his campaign can outrate Clinton’s by being more entertaining then he’ll have a strong chance of winning. That said, I think the GOP may start to put up a few policies now that Pence is on board.

      • Psu Doh Nihm says:

Don’t insult a great breed by comparing him to that turd. He is no where near the intelligent, gentle, loyal animal pit bulls are.

    • EM says:

My prayers to those in Germany with the terrorist attack(s). Unfortunately these types of incidents will only help Trump as evident by all of the tweets going out saying that’s why “we” need Trump.

..and believe me, we in Europe are worried for ourselves too. In fact, between Trump, Putin and Erdogan, the world is looking pretty scary right now.

      • farah says:

Especially after what Trump said about NATO. Eurropean countries located next to Russia are freaking out. It doesn’t help that Trump has pro Putin aides, and he himself has praised Putin.

      • Kiki says:

And Donald Trump praised Saddam Hussein. That’s how bad he is

      • Lady D says:

I couldn’t believe what he said about NATO. We’re doomed if he gets in, just doomed.
I remember being so happy when Obama was first elected, it makes me feel so much more baffled about this one.

      • Rayya Kirt says:

As a Russian who emigrated here at 3, the notion of praising Putin speaks volumes. Bad guys will encourage, promote, lie for

I am pretty worried for us too. It all seemed like a crazy joke a year ago but now here we are. I hope the side of fear, anger and hate does not win in November.

      • Alix says:

I was worried about this last year. My nephew, a die-hard Republican*, dismissed Trump as a “carnival barker” and said not to worry about him. Well, here we are, because not enough people worried soon enough, IMO. If this nutjob is actually elected I can’t decide whether I’ll dissolve into tears of sadness for my country or become incandescent with rage that a majority of my fellow citizens put us on the fast track to hell.

        * Not to be held against him. He’s more thoughtful, open-minded and compassionate than many liberals I’ve met, just sayin’.

      • annaloo. says:

Don’t be scared! FIGHT! Get out the vote, research the down ticket candidates, and SHOW UP! We don’t have to take this lying down.

      • Melly says:

        @Analoo
You are exactly right. Don’t be scared, get out there and fight for what’s right. If you don’t want this country to be led by Trump, get out there and vote. Encourage others to vote. It’s an election, we have a choice in this sh!t show.

A cut and paste? Go away, troll.

    • Evie says:

I’ve got to be honest, I’m pretty scared; what if he actually wins? 2016 has been such a weird year politically around the world, that it doesn’t seem as far fetched anymore. It’s terrifying.

    • Mika says:

Like someone had said…2016 is like the Donald Trump of years..

    • Saks says:

As their neighbour from the south and with family in the US, I’m also terrified about this.
His hate speech openly dismisses my country and my people, and last night he just spouted lies about immigrants. It’s so sad to me that some of the big claps of the night happened when he talked about the wall.
Here in Mexico we are having really rough times and Trump is just the cherry on the cake of our horrific year.

      • Katie says:

Why anyone balks at a wall I can’t understand. If you are law abiding and want to come to the US, through LEGAL CHANNELS, and respect US laws and the country, then GREAT!! But having lived in San Diego I can understand people wanting to build a wall. Drug runners come across that border EVERY DAY (there’s a show on the Travel Channel called “Drugs, Inc.” that tells where all the drugs in the US come from and how it gets here!) along with human and sex trafficking. It is too easy for people who only want to damage the US to come across our borders!! I realize that Mexico has so many corrupt LEO and in govt and there is such a high rate of poverty and violence. The cartels are pieces of shit who are only about making more money for themselves. I’d want to leave too! But there are LEGAL channels to go through! I’ve had friends in Wa and Cali who immigrated here, all had waited to do it legitimately. Hispanic, Russian, and they all took their citizenship tests as soon as they were able! Ythey have assimilated to this country. They’ve learned English and refused financial assistance, although they were more than eligible. The illegal immigrants people want out are the one who have done NONE of that, and never plan to! And the “wall” isn’t strictly for Hispanics, it is for ANYONE who wants to come here and not work and expects everything to be handed to them!! (and there are a ton of US citizens who are guilty of that as well). I will admit it infuriates me to know someone has been here for awhile and has never tried to learn English. I personally know what happens when you go somewhere else and don’t speak the language…you get screwed. (Luckily, it was only $10 but that’s a lot for an E3 with less than 2 years in!) All of our ancestors who came here speaking their native tongue all learned English, because they wanted to “fit in”, and mostly because they wanted to BE an AN AMERICAN!!

      • Betsy says:

@Katie – the wall would be a moronic idea for a number of reasons, not the least of which is the fact that they’d just dig tunnels. Also, ecologists say it would be horrible for wildlife. And can you imagine how much it would cost to build? Insanity.

Further – no, “our” ancestors didn’t come here and learn English to fit in. Lots and lots and lots of them kept the old language and the old ways; the kids only got English in school.

      • Wtf says:

        @katie

Mostly because IT WONT WORK! Everyone else can see that. so he’s advocating spending millions of dollars on a foolish idea that won’t accomplish any of its goals. Instead it will create a bunch of other problems for the environment, for AMERICAN small business that are on the border, and the wildlife. And did I mention IT WONT WOTRK.???

      • Kristin says:

Katie, you can’t honestly be serious can you? Illegal immigrants are among the hardest working of the American population. I refuse to deny anyone the right to a better life simply because I was fortunate enough to be born in a geographically desirable location. And as far as ‘legal channels”, do you have ANY idea how many years, not months, but years it takes to assimilate into this country? People with starving, struggling families can’t always afford to wait that long.

    • PrincessMe says:

Another non-American here with the same feelings. Most of my family (black, Jamaican) live there, and I worry for them with the type of behavior Trump is inciting/wants to incite. This morning I felt a little teary because I don’t understand how someone can be so callous and have the support of so many. I had bad thoughts that I’m not proud of, but he just comes off as a very evil person.
I’m also worried for my own country, because anything that affects America, will no doubt affect us (and the rest of the world). This is just all too sad to me and I hope that the reality is that his supporters are just the loud minority and all will be fine in November.

    • Janet R says:

The prospect is terrifying! Want a roomie in case it goes that way?

    • ElleBee says:

I’m a Caribbean neighbour and I’m super worried. At first I was telling myself “Not my circus not my monkeys.” The truth is small island territories are largely affected by the good and bad things that the larger countries (especially the USA) do. There’s a saying in the Bahamas that “when America sneezes, the Bahamas catches a cold.” I’m a bajan but that saying goes to show that America’s decisions affect all of us.

If this radio active lab creation wins we’re all doomed.

    • LAB says:

As a fellow Canadian, I too am worried. We decided that if Trump gets becomes POTUS we won’t be heading south for any vacations for a few years as it would be scary. It worries me as to what could happen with a dictator running things too as we have the largest undefended boarder in the world right now. Obama is really well liked up here so it would be an odd change.

    • Scotchy says:

      @OriginallyBlue,

I am a beige Canadian that is temporarily working/based in the US. This is terrifying..
This guy hates all things beige/brown and migrant workers apparently sooo… EEEKKKKK…
It turns my stomach. Most Americans I have been around are such amazing people, that I am at a loss as to how this racist dictator even got this far….

      • Eileen says:

It is because people are tired of the globalists, the elite, the media and their lies, and Hillary is one of them. It is a revolt against the status quo, and Trump happened just at the right time. Anybody watched Clinton Cash yet ? Trump is not perfect, but a criminal like Hillary just gives me the chills.

      • hmmm says:

        @Eileen,

        You’re not a Canadian.

    • Gigi says:

As a Canadian living in the USA I’m worried too. But I’m also worried about the enormous smug cloud fogging up the brains of those living in the great white north. Canadians are so focused on all the ills next door and are so willfully ignorant about their own issues because pointing fingers at Americans and saying we are so much better has become a national pass-time rivaling hockey. Fracking anyone? Mining up North polluting the environment? Well all we have to do is say US factories polluted the Great Lakes (because of course the ones on our side of the border didn’t play a huge great part in it, right?). Face it, we have Dubbya 2.0 in Canada. Trudeau Sr. was brilliant. Trudeau Jr. is a younger, more handsome version of Dubbya. He is the Canadian Dubbya and no one seems to want to talk about it (oh, and I am definitely left of center politically, so no, this isn’t a neo-con rant.

      • Scotchy says:

        @Gigi

Thank you for writing this!! I am by no means a Trudeau Jr. fan and agree wholeheartedly with all that you wrote. I sometimes feel alone when everyone gushes about him being handsome ( which i don’t get, he looks like every other white upper class bro to me.. )
I am very aware of Canadians issues and try and stay abreast of the various situations and was very very disappointed when the fear tactics worked and a Liberal majority government got voted in with the Cons as the official opposition..

I actually had a sit down with a prominent liberal MP prior the elections and it was made quite clear to me , that Trudeau Jr. got the Lib leadership vote because his numbers tracked well and because he is easy to control. Very easy to control…

Siiiggghhh.. I will say this, at least it’s no Trump situation, but we do have to stay on top of it and it’s my hope that the Greens and NDP start rallying and the NDP elects a new leader so that in come next election time there is a chance to rebalance the tide.

      • hmmm says:

Because Harper was so much better.

      • Zeddy says:

Lol! Trudeau senior was brilliant if you didn’t live in the west. People used to make effagies of him, hang them up. By the neck, and burn them as he would drive or pass by on train.

  4. NewWester says:

I will call it now: Ivanka Trump will run for the Republician nomination in 2020 if her father loses the election this year.

    • Lahdidahbaby says:

I told Mr. Lahdidah tonight, “Watch and see, she will run for office one day, starting with the Senate.”

    • Betsy says:

      I don’t think she’s a Republican.

      • Don't kill me I'm French says:

She probably is republican but not conservative

      • Fl girl says:

She’s a registered independent. Her father scares the h*ll out of me!

      • Scal says:

Up until this election cycle she was a Democrat. And she still is really-she just changed her registration for dad. If she was going to run anywhere she’d run as a Dem.

      • KJ says:

She’s not. The reason she couldn’t vote for him in the NY Primary was because she didn’t meet the deadline for switching her party affiliation to the Republican party.

    • Naya says:

She is more measured and thoughtful than her dad. If she did run in 2020 it would be either for governor or senator. Then she’ll amp up to president in 2024.

      • hmmm says:

She is a chip off the old block. With better optics.

      • lissanne says:

        hmmm:
You are on to something here. She is another dangerous one.

      • RJ says:

I read a comment on another site from an airline attendant who worked in a flight from LA to NYC where Ivanka was a first class passenger. According to him she was a total b*tch, very demanding and rude throughout the flight (apparently she was supposed to fly private but there was some mixup and she was pissy about having to fly commerical with the riff raff). The attendants gave each other comic relief by imitating her in the galley. She reminds of of Kim Kardashian, very careful about projecting a sweet, approachable persona in public, but an absolute demon when the cameras aren’t rolling.

    • Rhiley says:

I think it is Donald Trump Jr who is eyeing something in politics. This is the most I have heard him speak- ever- and he seems as nuts as his father. In fact, he never says, “My father will do this when he is in the White House or my father believes this about the world and when he gets to the White House will see about change.” What Trump Jr says is “we believe…,” “what we will do when we are in the White House,” “we aren’t politicians but I think the American people are ready for us…” Crazy.

      • The Eternal Side-Eye says:

Well you just know he was raised in Daddy’s image to go on for him when the Orange one is too frail to conquer us all.

      • Dinah says:

This country won’t survive one Trump. Trump’s tykes will go down as hard as we all will fall, under Daddy Dearest’s crusty bootheel.

      • Fire Rabbit says:

On top of all the other scary things that come with his campaign is how he is integrating and positioning his children and their spouses around him. All as advisors and heirs, ready to take over when his time comes. His perogative if it is his own company sure, but that’s NOT the American process of governing. It feels like they seriously think his election will start a dynasty where a Trump will always be president. King of the USA- and that their entitled to it, Constitution be d@mned! And what makes it worse, you know there are many, many of his nutbag supporters who would be absolutely OK with it. I think I need to turn off the spectacle for a bit lol, this is cutting too close to my heart.

    • isabelle says:

She sounded like a Democrat and not a Republican. It was funny because…those conventions goers were applauding Democrat principles.

  5. Arock says:

its like that dream where you are in your underware in school, but you can’t wake up. He is an egomaniac. The fact that he has gotten this far is insane, just horrifying. I can’t even articulate my level of disgust and rage.

    • Lahdidahbaby says:

Love how you describe it, Arock — it’s EXACTLY like that dream. And I would guess most sane Americans are having that very same response. Problem is, since lots of them don’t care for Hillary, they may just stay home from the polls. My husband is one of those. His dislike of Hillary is so fierce that he can’t even stay in the room when she’s on TV. I’m voting for her only because I’m afraid staying home will hand the presidency to Trump, and I don’t see how people can even speak of Trump & Clinton’s negatives in the same breath, since Hillary is intelligent, informed, experienced, well-connected politically, knowledgeable in world affairs, etc. Yes, in terms of her character she may well be the female incarnation of Richard Nixon (enemy’s lists, vengeance, plots and lies, a persecution complex), but she is preferable to Donald “Mussolini” Trump. How the hell did we end up with this dismal choice?

      • holly hobby says:

Let’s face it, we ended up cornered because both parties sort of screwed the American public over. We got Hilary because the Dem brainthrust thinks this is the year of the woman and for whatever reason, told/ordered (depending on how you view it) viable presidential candidates within the party to fall in line and let Hilary get elected. The only problem with that is Hilary’s somewhat sketchy character (I agree with the other poster, she’s our version of Tricky Dick) which means she isn’t a sure thing to the White House.

We ended up with Orangino because for whatever reason, the other Repub candidates didn’t push for an electable candidate.

I never wanted to vote for Hilary but it looks like I’ll have to because the other option is the most evil. Yes we’re down to chosing which is the lesser evil. This is not the same as the Obama v. McCain race. I’m not enthusiastic at all. 2016 is a big f you.

      • isabelle says:

Trump is reincarnation of a mixture of Nixon and George Wallace. His speech was verbatim matches Nixon in 1976. Trumps speech was using his outline. Nixon called it the Southern strategy and he used his divisive speech to divide the south from the rest of America and it worked. Hillary isn’t Nixon, Trump is a worse version of Nixon.

      • holly hobby says:

Nixon as in Watergate, obfuscation, paranoia, trust issues, axe to grind etc. Hilary has shades of that which is why she isn’t a shoe in for the White House and why we should all be afraid of a possibility that Orangino will win.

    • Green_Eyes says:

Not s dream, more of a nightmare:(.

  6. DanaG says:

World War 3 here we come if he gets in. I think he wants war cause thinks it will show how powerful he is. I really hope they cut the wire on the red button cause Trump is more the do and say now and workout the details later kind of gay.

    • Sb says:

I fear you’re correct. He has said himself he will not only end our relationship with our allies but put boots on the ground against ISIS. He will march us to our slaughter. He is a scary dangerous sub-par being. He speaks as though our country is in shambles and our streets are war-zones. This couldn’t be farther from the truth. But if he wins I fear it will become the state of our union.

      • Alix says:

By which point I expect to be securely ensconced in a sweet little country home outside Montréal.

    • Christin says:

      A war = profits. It’s almost a given.

We may have one declared before the inaugural speech ends, should he win.

      • Green_Eyes says:

        Yes, that’s the old school
        Mentality.. Scary.

      • anotherrandom says:

This is why who we elect in Congress this Nov is most important. Not that he can’t send troops without a formal declaration, but the President can only ask Congress to declare war. I’m just saying. Pay attention to your local and state elections. They will be of utmost importance.

    • EM says:

A couple of Trump quotes that should make us more terrified:

TRUMP: “When the students poured into Tiananmen Square, the Chinese government almost blew it. Then they were vicious, they were horrible, but they put it down with strength. That shows you the power of strength.”

He said, “You’ve got to give Kim Jong Un credit” for taking over North Korea – something he did by murdering everyone he saw as a threat, including his own uncle, which Donald described gleefully, like he was recapping an action movie.

TRUMP: “And you’ve got to give him credit. How many young guys — he was like 26 or 25 when his father died — take over these tough generals…. It’s incredible. He wiped out the uncle. He wiped out this one, that one. I mean, this guy doesn’t play games.”
And he said that, if he were grading Vladimir Putin as a leader, he’d give him an A.

TRUMP: “I will tell you, in terms of leadership, he’s getting an ‘A,’

      • Fire Rabbit says:

The opposition needs to make commercials.out of those quotes and play them constantly on all media outlets possible. We can’t underestimate him and the Republican machine anymore. They want permanent power and will do anything for it.

      • Betsy says:

@Fire Rabbit – not sure how much good that would do. I am willing to bet there are a sad number of people who don’t know who Kim Jong Un is or what Tiannamen Square was about even little.

    • Pabena6 says:

@DanaG — I know it was a typo, but your “details kind of gay” made me LOL! Can you imagine how wonderful that would be, if all his mini-Hitlers were to find out he was in the closet?! Not that we want him, of course.

    • Katie says:

Hillary is more likely to do that than Trump. The woman is power hungry and has been gearing up for this spot since Willy was in office! She would push that button without a second thought. Her fingers been itchy for many, many years!!

      • BubbaMagnet says:

Wow. I can’t tell if you’re just trolling us or if you are a true believer who drank the koolaid

  7. grabbyhands says:

And yet people still seem to think it’s worth the risk to write in a vote or vote third party (and then immediately sit out the next local and mid-term elections, while simultaneously whining about how their rights are being eroded).

    • OriginallyBlue says:

That seriously pisses me off. People are actively discouraging people from voting at all or to write in a 3rd party. What is that going to accomplish? These people constantly complain about things not being done to help them, yet don’t want to do unbiased research and will not go out and vote for a change and then sit back and complain about whoever wins.

    • Kitten says:

Yeah I will just never understand that…I’ve heard all the “reasons” but they all fall flat for me in the face of Orange Hitler.

      • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Me, too. I have a lot of conservative people in my life who are one by one justifying voting for him or voting Libertarian as a protest because of Hillary. I don’t understand how any reasonable person can take a chance that this dangerous man could be our president. I’m really down about the whole thing, and scared.

      • Marty says:

That’s what scares and hurts me the most, Kitten and GNAT. That there is this large group of people willing to prop this man up and put him in a place of powerful.

Even if, hopefully, Trump doesn’t win in November we have to contend with the fact that we still have a large group of people in this country who supported every vile, disgusting, thing that rotting jack-o-lantern stood for.

      • isabelle says:

An America Mussolini. Seriously watch videos of Mussolini. Same movements, same body language, same rhetoric.

      • Who ARE these people? says:

This is what I’m angry about today, people fretting about where to put their poor precious “votes of conscience” in a “safe state.” To my thinking, if you want to throw something away, any trash can will do.

    • Scal says:

THIS. If this speech doesn’t scare you into voting for HRC I don’t know what will. You know that the lib/green party isn’t going to win, I’ve heard some people saying that they don’t care, they just want to overturn the apple cart. Well who is going to be there to pick up the apple cart when it’s over? It’s going to end up being Trump and his cronies, and then kiss your opportunity to ‘take a stand’ goodbye.

Vote Green/Libertarian down ticket 100%, vote and campaign in the midterms 100%, but we can not let this guy be in charge. There won’t BE a green/libertarian party around to vote for if this guy wins.

      • Green_Eyes says:

I’m not a HRC fan, but the minute Bernie was out.. I knew where my vote was going. My mom barely survived WWII, she even says he sounds like Hitler when he was first getting started. My vote without a doubt is for HRC.. If anything I respect her composure, the knowledge & experience she has enough to put aside the things I don’t like. The RNC was so hateful, even my mother was shocked. Hubby expected it w/ Trump. I just pray more people vote for HRC than DJT. I see Marshall law in effect as of 1/21/2017 if he is elected…

      • Venus says:

Green_Eyes, I also saw the imposition of martial law from Trump’s speech:

“I have a message for all of you: the crime and violence that today afflicts our nation will soon come to an end. Beginning on January 20th 2017, safety will be restored. ”

What else could he possibly mean? He’s telling everybody what he intends to do, and I am so concerned that not enough people are really listening.

        (speech transcript from Politico)

      • mayamae says:

One political pundit said Trump describes a dystopian America. Another hilariously said, “I didn’t realize we live in Gotham City”.

For a good laugh, watch his speech while fast forwarding. The ridiculous hand with the alternating okay sign and finger point to God, and tortured anus-mouth (which Drumpf Jr has perfected) is quite amusing. Until you remember he’s quite possibly going to be leader of the free world. God help us all.

      • Original Kay says:

The president of the USA being the leader of the free world is a notion in the past.
With this election you are handing that honour to Trudeau I believe.

      • EM says:

@Venus – most likely he would begin with minorities so I bet you many of the supporters think it’s a brilliant idea because “they” are law abiding citizens.

      • NGBoston says:

Stop with the Marshall Law BS either. That is not going to happen.

Those in LE that have made mistakes need to be punished and suspended then a full investigation done with all the facts. Not the same way an investagation was done on HRC for her security clearance violation then the AG dismissing all charges. Come on, The MSM does not always tell the entire story about the circumstances leading up to some of these shootings- and sensationalize the shit out of everything. I do believe there is racial profiling going on, and I am not saying that cops themselves are above the law (they are not) but in no way should anyone going around shooting cops just because they are cops either. There are plenty of corrupt cops who need to be exposed and then imprisoned or made to face their consequences if they have violated ANY citizens rights.

    • The Eternal Side-Eye says:

Because some people wouldn’t believe you if you told them a rock was about to fall on their head and they should move even if they saw a shadow cover them and heard a whisteling sound.

This is partly why I could never get on the Bernie train. The road to hell is paved with good intentions and there is a sharp difference between what I might hope the world could be and what it is right now, this moment, this week.

Voting on an ideal of what you think the country could be won’t change what’s happening now, this moment, this week. It’ll just allow a serpent to take control who will happily dismantle everything you thought was sacred and leave the future you hoped for even further from your grasp. But there are people who will refuse to think about that fact and will never be persuaded otherwise, if only they would also be kind enough not to utter a peep of complaints when it all goes wrong.

      • SusanneToo says:

The mean streak in me hopes they’re among the unfortunates impacted by a Trump regime. It would serve them right.

    • SusanneToo says:

SUPREME COURT. SUPREME COURT. SUPREME COURT. Yes, I’m shouting trying to penetrate their thick skulls.

      • hogtowngooner says:

Keep shouting! It needs to be said over and over and over. There is SO MUCH at stake in this election that to throw your vote at a 3rd party is handing Trump the White House.

    • Tiffany :) says:

The stakes are just so dire. If you aren’t voting for Hillary, it helps Trump. That is just the reality, the terrifying reality.

  8. Ricky Ticky says:

The more the MSM mocks Trump and his supporters the more determined they become to resist the ‘elites’. On the other hand you can’t just let it go unchallenged. Quite the conundrum.

    • Betsy says:

It really is. Present a Trump voter with facts and you’re likely to: get called a typical liberal hypocrite, get an earful of bluster about how the media has spun Trump’s words and you can’t trust the liberal media, a seriously non-factual defense of Trump indefensible tirades, mocks, ever-shifting policies etc., or someone saying they don’t like how things are going, so let’s have a shakeup. Never mind the fact that at this point a shakeup would be giving WH, House and Senate to the Democrats to let them fix the mess.

      • Saks says:

The New Yorker had an article about why people “prefer” be wrong that accepting facts or scientific evidence, it was really interesting because it has to do basically with our perception of the world and how we percieve ourselves, more than with the facts.

      • doofus says:

yup, they’d prefer to BE wrong but continue to think they’re right than actually just admit they’re wrong.

      • hogtowngooner says:

@Saks, can you link the article? That sounds interesting.

And @Ricky + @Betsy, I agree with both of you. For Trump supporters, it’s more about giving a big middle finger to Democrats/liberals and minorities who they feel have been given preferential treatment. Our collective horror at Trump gives them a gross amount of joy and no amount of facts are going to stop that.

    • Miss Melissa says:

People who fail to learn history are doomed to repeat it.

Fascist has become such a throwaway term that people don’t recognize it when they see it. Totalitarian nationalism is how it started in Europe 90 years ago.

    • hmmm says:

There may be some mockery but there’s also a lot of fawning from the MSM because he is the source of reality hits. His travelling show pays the bills

I have yet to hear *one* analyst on MSM label him what he and his movement are- fascist.

      • lissanne says:

The Washington Post has run a pretty damning editorial against him. That is quite unusual for them. Usually they cover the campaigns, and then make an endorsement. This time, they are saying right away, “Never Trump.”

  9. Sparkles says:

He reminded me sooo much of the dictator in V for Vendetta.

    • Prairiegirl says:

My first thought was “Hey, it’s the 2-minute hate from George Orwell’s 1984!”

    • Don't kill me I'm French says:

He reminded me the president in Stephen King’s Dead Zone ( movie and book) .It is scary

    • nicole says:

He reminded me straightaway of Mussolini, the head up in the air, taking little steps back and forth, the finger pointing, the angry face etc. couldnt beleive it, he is one mean horrible angry smug little man, who is going to run America into the ground and take the rest of the world with it. Was just listening to CNN, and he is starting up the whole Ted Cruz/father Kennedy assisination thing again, he is so incredibly childish and putrid to watch. Please vote for Hillary, nobody could be as bad as him.

  10. Meegs says:

My nausea at this travesty reached intolerable levels last night.

I signed up to volunteer for Hillary’s campaign this morning.

The disgrace of a person that is Donald Trump, and the spineless GOP whose rhetoric created this monster, cannot be permitted to infect our nation and our world with their filth.

We all must do our part!
    https://www.hillaryclinton.com/forms/volunteer/

    • Betsy says:

What kind of volunteer options do they offer once you leave your info? I stay at home with my kids and am pregnant, due pretty much on Election Day, so my energy is waning and I don’t want to sign up if I can’t actually be of help, you know?

      • Tiffany :) says:

I haven’t volunteered for her campaign, but in others the focus is usually identifying supporters and following up to make sure they can get to the polls. They have you call people, which can be done from home with a computer and a phone.

      • Jwoolman says:

Ask if you can vote absentee if your due date is that close. The rules vary from state to state, but talk with the appropriate person to find out. Make sure you apply for the absentee ballot as soon as it’s available in case there are mysterious losses in the mail.

      • Betsy says:

@Jwoolman – already planned to. My first came two weeks late, my second three weeks early, so although I will miss the majesty (ha ha LINES) of in-person voting, I can’t even hazard a guess as to when this one may arrive.

      • Who ARE these people? says:

US citizen in Canada here and we’ve not only sent money to various local, state and federal campaigns, but also made voted absentee and called to get people to the polls. You can write letters to the editor, comment with facts (for the few remaining who’ll respect them) on articles, circulate information, speak your mind. And may your baby be born into a peaceful world!

    • Jenny says:

Just signed up; signed the hubby up too lol. Thanks for the link! At this point I am too terrified of a Drumpf presidency to sit at home and wait for November.

    • Lady D says:

I know this isn’t a funny situation at all, but I had to grin at the thought of the amount of people who signed up for HRC’s campaign today, after last nights RNC.

      • hmmm says:

You should have heard his rambling justification, rambling rant, rambling attacks on Cruz, rambling glorifying of himself that rambled on forever today; BTW, he was supposed to be thanking volunteers. The MSM kept him on the air, the mindless, conscienceless patsies that they are.

    • adastraperaspera says:

Signed up, thanks! Been meaning to, but this conversation is just the push I needed.

    • nicole says:

      Meegs, good for you.

  11. Maya says:

May god save women, people of colour, homosexuals and transsexuals if Trump becomes the President of United States.

The world is already laughing at USA for letting this man near the presidency but they will difinetely cut of the country if he becomes the leader.

He has insulted women, Mexicans, Latins, Native Americans, War veterans, disabled, Indians, Chinese etc – hopefully these groups of people will vote and give a landslide victory to Hillary.

    • Jayna says:

I just hope Democrats aren’t overly confident, because he’s such a baffoon, hate-monger. Democrats need to be worried he could win, so need to come out en masse to vote.

Liberal documentarian Michael Moore said on Bill Maher that he hates to say it, but he thinks Trump will win because he speaks to a certain segment of people, paraphrasing. Bill Maher said that complacency would be the problem.

No complacency, people. Get everyone out to vote. My sister is taking her daughter to vote. It’s her very first election.

      • Tate says:

Just my opinion but I think Democrats will show up to vote. When he was seen as a joke that could never be President than I think there was a possibility of people not taking this seriously and staying home. I think there has been a shift and now people are scared of this monster being elected and will get out and vote. I hope my hunch is right. 🙏🏻

      • Christin says:

I hope people remember or at least are aware of what happened in 2000. Every vote counts.

      • Naya says:

You saw the Bernie or Burst army out here in force the other day, bursting all over the place. The democrats base skews young and these types of voters are naive enough to believe that writing in will flip the entire system on its head.

      • The Eternal Side-Eye says:

        @Naya

        Where was that?

      • isabelle says:

After last nights speech I will drag my half-dead body to the polls if I need to do it. Actually I live in Oregon and we have in mail ballots but that ballot isn’t sitting on table for a few fews this time, I’m sending it the very first day.

      • Rose says:

I worry that Michael Moore is right. Trump appeals to those people who have nothing left to lose. There are many in the U.S. who have nothing or very little. They have been left behind (especially) economically and educationally. They blame those groups (Blacks, Hispanics, women, etc.) for their plight and think if these people were “put in their place” that they would succeed.

    • Cdoggy says:

God, I strongly dislike Mr. Trump and all he stands for, but it makes me laugh when people say that “the rest of the world is laughing at the USA”. Ummmm, I wouldn’t exactly say that “the rest of the world” has done much better in electing or appointing leaders. This is a big world full of lots of big asshats.

      • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Also, when has the world NOT spit on us for one reason or another? So what. If we did everything the rest of the world wanted we wouldn’t exist. I desperately hope Trump loses, but not because of the rest of the world.

      • Who ARE these people? says:

        I don’t think they’re laughing, I think they’re horrified and feeling helpless.

Oh, okay … Vladimir Putin is laughing.

    • emma says:

He’s insulted Muslims too, to say the least.

  12. Rapunzel says:

One of my neighbors was gushing over his speech last night on Facebook. It was like me drooling over NKOTB as a kid in the 80s. This woman is a 50 something grandma. Smdh at how Trump’s cult of personality is clicking with too many folks.

And Ivanka just needs to stfu. Her dad is not for women (at least not in his campaign platform) no matter what she says. We see through you.

    • mia girl says:

He really has clicked with a lot of Americans who are freaking out over demographic changes in America and how those changes are having an impact on our culture. He’s a snake oil selling charlatan exploiting the worst of some people’s natures – hate, fear racism, etc.

When David Duke effusively praises your speech, you’ve got to know you are darkness. He’s Darth Trump.

I read that Rachel Maddow called Trump the gateway drug to open racism. Sounds about right.

      • doofus says:

the only way someone like him can get votes is to keep the electorate scared.

scared of the evil brown skinned people, and scared of immigrants, and scared of EVERYTHING.

      • OriginallyBlue says:

Putin likes him as well. That is definitely cause for concern that those are the people endorsing him.

      • Naya says:

Can you imagine we live in a world where a candidate is not tripping over himself to distance himself from David Duke? The republicans used to be much more coded about these things. Its like we time travelled to the 1950s

      • Saks says:

@orginallyblue, I don’t think that Putin really likes him, more like he wants him to win, because it would be more convenient for Russia

      • adastraperaspera says:

And appallingly, David Duke just announced another run for Senate seat in Louisiana today. He’s been trying to get back in office for years (he was a representative in the late 80s and early 90s).

Trump and his pandering campaign are directly to blame for the new rise of these vicious racists. Shame on Ivanka especially, who converted to Judaism in 2009 and should know better than to ever stoke the fires of anti-Semitism.

      • Who ARE these people? says:

So this is a clarion call to support David Duke’s Democratic opponent in Louisiana.

And I agree, shame on Ivanka Trump. Not only stoking the fires of anti-Semitism but all the other forms of bigotry go against Jewish values. The conversion didn’t go very deep.

    • isabelle says:

He wants to scare white people over 40. He is purposely appealing to them specifically in this election. He has sworn off minorities. He has sworn off most women. He has sworn off everyone except for white older voters. He is going for the white vote only. That is exactly who is gearing his entire election toward and they are lapping it up like dogs. He knows exactly what he is doing. She is the very bloc is selling to and they love it. He knows which generation will latch on to his hate & fear approach.

      • SusanneToo says:

I am a white person way over 40 and I would swallow razor blades before I’d swallow any of the sh1t Trump is shoveling.

  13. Jenns says:

I didn’t even watch. I don’t care what he has to say because everything that comes out of his mouth it total BS.

    • Tate says:

You are smart Jenns. I watched and it was all total BS.

    • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

I wanted to watch because it’s part of history, but I couldn’t. It makes me sick to look at his face and hear his hatefulness and know there are people, so many people who agree with him.

    • EM says:

I’m with you – my blood pressure would have been through the roof had I watched this disgusting human being.

    • hmmm says:

I watched even though I’m Canadian because fascism affects us all and because I can’t resist a trainwreck, sadly. I wish I could vote. I hope everyone gets out to vote in the US. You are voting for the well being of more than just America.

  14. UCatwoman says:

I keep hoping this the real life DeadZone and Trump holds up a baby as shield when he sees Walken trying to shoot him.

  15. Georgia says:

I am worried. After Brexit I have been very concerned about Trump. WHAT IF HE ACTUALLY BECOMES PRESIDENT?!?!?!???!

  16. lilacflowers says:

    Has he stopped shouting yet?

And how is he fixing bridges, tunnels, roads, education, building a wall, performing regulatory reform analysis, which takes a lot of staff time, and improving veterans services, when he plans to slash revenues?

    • Jayna says:

tsk, tsk. Those are minor details, how he is going to do it. LOL

    • Tate says:

Relax. Donald said he will make America great again. What more do you want from him???

    • doofus says:

I’d like to know he’s going to do all of things when he couldn’t even keep a steak business running.

      • Jwoolman says:

Easy. He will simply issue hats with Make America Great Again on them to everybody in the USA. Done and done.

      • Jwoolman says:

I’m still baffled why he would sell steaks through the Sharper Image catalog and nowhere else. They didn’t sell well either. Maybe he just needed a loss to get a tax deduction.

    • SusanneToo says:

Unless it benefits his bottom line, forget about it.

    • Tiffany :) says:

Exactly, lilac! His policy ideas make NO sense! How can you spend more money when you drastically slash tax income? (Answer: deficit spending)

We’re supposed to believe he’s great because he “hires the best people”, but he can’t even get a balloon to drop on time.

Lifted speeches, non-endorsements, flickering screens, witch trials, and cheap production values add up to a very poorly done convention IMO.

      • Green_Eyes says:

If he could “hire the best people”, he should have done it for the convention & speech writers.. I get the feeling Trump is cheap, no he’ll have his family overseeing everything just as he has thus far. Remember Ivanka did say on National TV last night she will be personally working with her dad on women’s issues. Just creepy how she seems to take on the First Lady role. Melania looked so over it last night. Hubby made me laugh when he said Donald Jr must be as bad or worse than DJT, his wife looks snobby & JR has a very scornful resting bi*** face when ever camera rolled over to them.

      • Tiffany :) says:

Exactly. I think this crapfest of a convention shows how unskilled he is at his supposedly greatest attribute.

He has a long history of hiring contractors and employees under specific terms, only to not pay them after the work has been done. He then offers 50% or 25% (or for one architect, 17% of the contracted fee) of the agreed upon price. He says they can either take that, or go to court. Trump notes that he can afford to spend years haggling in court, can the contractor/employee?

He isn’t a good business man. He is a thief. A good negotiator gets the reduced price written into the contract/agreement. He’s like a mobster.

      • doofus says:

one of my coworkers and I were chatting, only VERY superficially about this election, and she said “well, Trump is a good businessman” to which I said “actually, he’s not” and proceeded to tell her about his bankruptcies and failed businesses, as well as his shady practice of not paying after the job is done and stiffing all of these small businesses, etc. (note: she’s our bookkeeper, a member of the family of this SMALL FAMILY BUSINESS that I work for.)

and she looked dumbfounded. she had no idea. WTF? how can people NOT know these things?

      • holly hobby says:

He does know that he can’t spend or print money right? It’s not a dictatorship. Congress has to pass spending bills. Since some Republicans cannot stand him, I wonder if he’s going to get much cooperation? Either way, Hilary to the White House for me.

Nothing about Don patting Ivanka’s butt and looking at her chest, or does that merit a separate post?

    • Jayna says:

I saw him put his hand on her hip and thought am I making too big of a deal out of that because I dislike him? But I thought it was odd.

    • Green_Eyes says:

I saw his hand start to what seemed around to her bottom & then went to the hip.. Hubby was working on my laptop & didn’t see it. Since no one else mentioned it, I thought I was making too much of it. I mean my dad hugs me & has hands on my hips afterwards if we are talking, but my dad has never ever lusted after me publicly or otherwise. After my upbringing I know my dad hugs me a lot and we hold hands sometimes when just sitting & talking because he regrets the beatings and abuse for 24 years. I don’t get that warm fuzzy father/daughter feeling when Trump is close to his daughter like that.. I get creepy vibes, to me he treats her more like his wife than Melania. He even seemed more at ease w/ Ivanka last night than he did on stage when he kissed Melania. Knowing the bizzare things he has said before about Ivanka it to me also just seems odd how Ivanka has taken on so much of the First Lady type roles on the campaign & how Melania looked so done with it last night. She never even interacted w/ the Trump kids at all when the cameras would go to them. She seemed only to talk to Baron.

      • Betsy says:

In a still image from last night, he is most definitely looking at her chest, too. Wish I was able to link images on the iPad, but I’m not.

      • hmmm says:

He should have kept his hands to himself. Patting the side of her bum is not kosher. Kiss, hug, and then let go. Geez, it’s so simple. But Trump? He patted down the side of her body ending at the bum. No father does this.

  19. als says:

What I understand from his external policy views (the NYT had a piece on it based on what Trump presented in Cleveland) Trump wants to cut costs with military personnel and quit defending other countries on America’ expense. And with the saved money he wants to make America great again.

So basically he wants to withdrawn US military support to the NATO countries that could become potential targets.

Therefore, the military is not his concern, nor are the world’s problems and the concept of making America great again will obviously involve America living on its own planet, separated from all the other countries.
I have no doubt there are many Americans that are going through rough times but isolation is never the solution.

    • Tiffany :) says:

His views on anything related to Russia are TERRIFYING.

His campaign manager, Paul Manafort, used to work for the former president of the Ukraine, who was backed and supported by Putin. Trump’s comments about NATO essentially say that Russia can gobble up any of its neighbors with impunity.

    • Kristen820 says:

Honest question, Darcy & Clickjen – Why? What is the appeal for you both?

      • Smallwonder2738 says:

He’s not Hillary Clinton. He’s not Obama. He’s pro-police, pro-jobs, etc. He isn’t trying to get the entire country to rely on the system and work for what they get. He’s our best option.

      • Tiffany :) says:

He’s not really pro-jobs. He says the American worker is paid too much! He says that he will bring back coal and steel industries, but those are lies. With coal, other forms of energy like natural gas are waaaay cheaper to produce, so it is capitalism that has killed that industry. He can’t create demand for something that business doesn’t want or need.

      • Tate says:

So Hillary is anti-police and anti-jobs?

When Obama took office we were bleeding 500,000 jobs a month. 500,000. How many consecutive months of job growth did we see after Obama took office. Anti-jobs? Huh?

      • EM says:

“He isn’t trying to get the entire country to rely on the system and work for what they get.” I could understand this argument if his own personal actions didn’t negate the words. This is a man that PLAYS the system and has never worked for anything except the Trump name. If this man perhaps had stopped at 2 bankruptcies then maybe you can say – hey bad timing, bad advisors, bad me BUT 4 bankruptcies is knowing how to manipulate a system that will leave the workers and taxpayers holding the bag. 3,500 lawsuits is manipulating the system leaving the taxpayers holding the bag since we pay court costs, working hard to pay as little taxes as possible is manipulating the system.

So the short of it, you’ve bought into his words and have actively chosen to ignore his actions.

      • Tiffany :) says:

“He isn’t trying to get the entire country to rely on the system and work for what they get”

No, his economic ideas would actually make more Americans dependent on the system.

He thinks the minimum wage is too high. As it stands, most people who work for minimum wage need government assistance because it is not a living wage. if he lowers the minimum wage, MORE people will be on gov’t assistance.

      • isabelle says:

So basically your logic is he isn’t Hilary?…but guess that would be the logic of a Trump voter.

      • Fire Rabbit says:

Gonna love it when all these pro- Trump females realize his jobs policy is going to include removing thousands of them from jobs that “rightfully belong” to men-white men of course. Back to the kitchen and diaper pail, or whorehouse, for you! He’ll solve the (white man) jobs problem easzypeazy and set all the social/cultural norms back the way they “should be”. And if he listens to Thiel and his ilk, they’ll make sure you can no longer be bothersome by voting either. There are alot of conservative congressmen already there who’d gladly help make that happen.
Why do certain women insist on voting against themselves?

      • doofus says:

“He’s not Hillary Clinton. He’s not Obama.”

so, he’s not smart, not experienced, has no knowledge of domestic or foreign policy, doesn’t believe in equal pay for equal work, doesn’t believe in a woman’s autonomy over her reproductive health, and is a sh*tty spouse and parent?

and you still want to vote for him? so, you’re putting party before country? some patriot you are.

    • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

      Very disappointing.

    • Green_Eyes says:

I question that pro police. NYPD does not care for him. I question if he is using the turmoil for votes by saying Pro Police.. when he truly means Police State (as in Marshall Law). Just give it done honest thought and reflect on his comments the last 13 months. Only way the Country would have Law & Order the minute he is inaugurated as he put it is if Marshall Law were declared. He seems more dictator than Presidential. Just my opinion, and your entitled to yours. I just hope you & others think about all his comments made the last 13 months and the hate he seems like to incite before voting.

    • Ann says:

Meeeeeeeeeeeee too. Can’t wait for law and order to come back to our country.

I have never seen such classy smart children. He set an example for them … hard working, no smoking, no drinking, no drugs. Refreshing to see kids turn out like this from rich parents. They all turned out great and children he can be proud of. Can’t wait for them to be the First Family.

  24. Skins says:

I have to admit, I was amused by the whole Trump as President thing at first, I never really thought it could happen so I was rolling with it having a laugh now and then at some of his promises and ideas, thinking that other countries wouldn’t mess with us with a guy like him in office. But now that it is close to happening, I am appalled. The guy is an egomanic, lunatic who has no more business being President than flying in the moon. I am no fan of Hillary either, so I don’t know what the answer is really. I don’t even think even Trump expected to get this far so I think he is just making this up as he goes along. I don’t think that he will be elected, but God help us all if he is

    • HappyMom says:

The answer is vote for Hillary. I don’t like her either but I fear for our country and the world if he becomes president. There’s only one option here.

      • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Same. It is really hard for me to vote for Hillary. I think she is completely lacking in character and morals. But Trump appeals to the very worst in us – fear of people who are not just like us, hatred of anyone who does not think exactly the way we (meaning conservative white people) do, a longing for the return of days when white men were the only people with “equal rights” in the country. He must be defeated, even at cost of having to look at Hillary’s face for four years.

      • EM says:

Exactly – one year ago the only thing I knew for sure is that I wouldn’t be voting for Hillary. Well now we have a man who could very well wipe out the US through his ignorance, hate mongering, desire to follow in the path of Putin and other dictators.

  25. Jayna says:

The Republican Party is so backwards. They came out with their official platform at the convention, and in it they support conversion therapy. They literally have in their official platform this, supporting therapy converting homosexuals into heterosexuals.

It boggles the mind how dark this party is. They are in no way inclusive. They are the opposite, but worse, frightening..

    • Tiffany :) says:

Yes, and “conversion therapy” includes shock treatment to electrify the gay away.

This is such a serious election.

    • Llamas says:

I’m most definitely a republican but as with democrats there are many factions with in the Rep. party. I don’t agree with the conservatism group. It’s too much for me. I lean towards libertarian I guess. I like the govt to stay out of the way and follow the constitution though I’m socially fairly liberal. So don’t hate all republicans!! 🙂 There are many that don’t like the conservative agenda, especially young republicans.

I don’t like the equating Donald Trump to Hitler and other dictators rhetoric. I think Trump is unintelligent and lost in life, and shouldn’t even think about being President but to say he is on the same level as the most evil men in history is trivializing their evilness and the evilness of their actions. He says and does incredibly stupid things but he is no hitler/Stalin/pot/Mussolini/ etc. I just really hate when people throw those men out in comparison all the time, no matter how much I dislike the person they’re being compared to.

Vote for my hedgehog 2016 🙂

      • lissanne says:

It’s easy to look back at the horror that was Hitler and Mussolini and claim that Trump is no comparison. But it’s more complicated than just looking at the personalities/intellect/intention involved. Trump is tapping into something that is very dangerous, the blaming of others that are not like oneself, for one’s own and one’s society’s problems. Demonizing the other. He has channeled that anger, fear, and blame. He may be doing this out of shear opportunism and not give a fig. We don’t know where he could go with it, but it’s out there now for others to capitalize on if he in the end chooses not to.

  26. Carmen says:

It probably sounded better in the original German in 1933.

  27. Lynnie says:

I really hope Clinton picks a VP who energizes her ticket. It really says something when you cannot have a slam-dunk campaign against the orange version of idiotic chaos.

    • Jayna says:

Well, the problem is she really wants to keep Warren and others in the Senate, which I agree with. Warren would be stifled as a VP. She’s too important in the senate.

I think she is going to go with one of two picks that are not exciting, but who will really help with swing states and who are 100 percent qualified to govern both regarding domestic and foreign affairs. Those swing states are important. So I think people are becoming used to the idea that she isn’t going to pick who they wanted her to. But I”ve tried to become informed on why she might go with Kaine or Vilsack. But Sanders’ supporters aren’t happy. I felt she needed someone more energizing also. I hope she picks well.

      • Lynnie says:

Are Sanders’ supporters happy with anything? And I say this as someone who was rooting for the guy at first. In all seriousness though, I hope she adopted some of Bernie’s ideas. That could be another way of energizing her run without necessarily picking someone like Warren, and has the added benefit of bringing the more reasonable Sanders supporters over to her.

I hope she does something exciting (either platform or VP). The way the media is glossing over everything Trump-Pence do + the vibe she gives off to others is making the race closer than it needs to be.

      • hmmm says:

        @Lynnie,

I felt rather deflated when I heard rumours of Kaine, a safe bet. This seems the time for firebrands, but I guess that’s not the only strategy. It also is a worry whether she will adopt Bernie’s ideas for real. I agree with you and Jayna, that a spark is necessary to counteract the dark lord.

    • isabelle says:

Warren & Booker would be good choices. Kaine, I’m worried about because he is so boring and Washington.

      • nicole says:

I hope she picks Corey Booker, saw him on CNN last night, and he seemed like a really nice smart man, who is young and would give the ticket a bit of excitement.

    • Maire3 says:

I hope HRC finds a strong VP as well. But aside from the idea that is Warren is a stronger ally in the Senate, this country will accept a 2woman ticket maybesomedaynever.

It still bottles the mind that back in 1994, I was in Ireland when Mary Robinson was President. Ireland, a place that once institutionalized women in the service of the Magdalene Laundries.

Edit: I remember reading a reference to the orange one as Cheeto Jeesus.

  28. greenmonster says:

“As your president I will do everything in my power to protect our LGBTQ citizens from the violence and oppression of the hateful FOREIGN ideology, believe me”

First, whenever he said LGBTQ it sounded like someone was holding up signs so he would get the letters in the right order.
Second, he will try to protect the LGBTQ community from hateful foreign ideology. So, hateful american, good ol’ hard-core christian ideology is still ok?
Donald Trump makes it sound as if every threat comes from outside of America – all the evil, all the hate, all the bad things are lurking at American borders waiting to get in and trying to kill everything a great America stands for.

    • Jayna says:

That is hysterical. What about protecting the LGBTQ community from the hateful Republican Party platform they unveiled at the convention? What a novel idea.

    • I Choose Me says:

Um, as noted above, members of his own party support conversion therapy for gay people. How is that also not a threat?

      • greenmonster says:

I’m not sure if I understand you correctly. Was your question directed at me?

As I said Donald Trump makes it sound AS IF every threat is coming from the outside in. He tries to lure in the LGBTQ community, although his own party is pretty anti LGBTQ.
I was trying to make a point, esp. since the Caitlyn Jenners of this world is convinced that Republicans just need to get to know transgender people. The threat from the inside is a much bigger one, but Trump glosses over the fact with claiming the threat comes from outside.

      • I Choose Me says:

I was agreeing with you actually greenmonster. All while trying to figure out why his supporters can’t see this real life troll for what he is.

      • greenmonster says:

        @I choose Me: sorry, I wasn’t sure 😉

  29. PunkyMomma says:

It stuns me that not one of the primary candidates in the Republican Party was unable to take Trump down during the debates. I point this out because a few years ago, after the John Edwards fiasco, George Stephanopolis admitted ON AIR that had it appeared that Edwards was going to win the Democratic Presidential nomination, there was a plan to ensure Edwards got out of the race. He (Stephanopolis) didn’t elaborate. The Democratic Party was aware of Edwards affair with Hunter.

That seems peanuts compared to Trump NOW receiving daily national security briefings. 👀

    • Lynnie says:

Speaks volumes about their base, and the inability of the party leaders to respond/help their audience. Also, what did they expect when they actively courted/enacted Dark Ages policies for so long? They stoked their constituents fears to the point that anyone who they don’t perceive as out for blood in honor of their “values” is discarded. Throw in the poison that is ride or die party loyalty, and I’m not surprised nothing has happened to Trump. Dumping him would kickstart the schism already taking place in the party, and I guess they would rather go down as one big dysfunctional family.

      • Fire Rabbit says:

Exactly. Trump is the culmination of 36 years of conservative policy and politicking. This is their fault. Even if HRC wins, Pandora’s box is open and all that fear and rage and hate of his supporters will remain.

    • Jwoolman says:

The thought of The Donald getting security briefings is truly scary. He simply isn’t trustworthy. I hope they’re being careful.

    2016 Trump Rallies/Republican Support
White democrats, independents “Yeah…you might be right.”

    3. Between the calls for firing squads, the Hitler-esque speech, the blatant lack of information and the zombie like devotion of his followers I am a little bit done with the planet. A black man lying on his back with his arms extended got shot while trying to help his autistic patient and even the cop who shot him didn’t know why. I need a stiff drink and a bikini and lawn chair cause some of this sh*t makes me feel like we’re going to end up crashing into the sun anyday now.

    • Green_Eyes says:

      True!

    • doofus says:

that cop said he meant to shoot the autistic man the guy was trying to help. (like that was any better?!)

even though the cop was told, OVER AND OVER, that it was a toy truck the guy was holding, he was still going to shoot an unarmed man. and MISSED.

      • Lucrezia says:

        The cop:
        – responded to reports of a suicidal person … and shot at them
        – (because the cop mistook a toy truck for a gun) …
        – but he missed the suicidal toy wielder, instead shooting the black guy who was lying on the ground with his hands up

That’s a satirical comedy sketch, not real life. And Trumpapolooza has drifted past comedy into madness. I think 2016 is trolling. So I’m going to ignore it and move on to 2017. Hopefully that will be a proper year.

      • The Eternal Side-Eye says:

Could you imagine the amount of money we’d save if we just recalled and stopped supplying police officers with stun guns, nightsticks, and binoculars?

        Clearly they’re not using them.

I mean with the amount of money being spent on bullets and lawsuits from their unjustified actions we gotta start recouping this lost tax payer money from somewhere.

      • Lucrezia says:

Also shoes. (I assume those are tax-deductible as work-related expenses?) It’s not like they chase down fleeing suspects any more – they just shoot them in the back – so shoes should not be covered.

      • The Eternal Side-Eye says:

Exactly. You wanna be a cop you bring your own shoes from home and use them.

The only thing we should be giving all these bad officers is a damn Valium because they’re so scared of any and everything they’d shoot a mentally disabled guy playing with a toy truck on the ground.

Pretty soon the only response to police intervention will be keeping totally still and playing dead like how you avoid a bear attack.

He never stood a chance no matter if he walked on water & brought peace around the world . Wouldn’t matter.. Trump played right to people such as those in my state & says the same things they do, he didn’t win KS in the primary but Cruz did so tells you how bad our State is. There is so much difference between them. I don`t think it would be quite different from now with her but with TRump …? and if you don`t vote you vote for Trump. It`s dangerous not to vote. Look at the Brexit.

    • Twodollars says:

Hillary is a genuinely horrible candidate. I have no problems with people who don’t want to vote for her. And fearmongering or threatening them isn’t going to help. Hillary supporters need to find positive reasons to vote for her besides Supreme Court and she’s a woman. I haven’t heard any other reason for supporting her. Some may site her campaign platform but since Hillary lies about everything and the country overwhelmingly doesn’t trust her, empty campaign promises aren’t going to sway anyone.

I campaigned for O’Malley, Obama, Kerry and Dean and I could list off a laundry list of great reasons to vote for each based on their accomplishments. I can’t think of 1 single positive reason to vote for her. She is the worst nominee the Dems have put up since McGovern.

      • anotherrandom says:

Empty campaign promises are certainly swaying Republican voters.

      • Betsy says:

        1. She’s intelligent, deeply intelligent.
        2. People who have worked with her, even across the aisle, say she is a good person to work with – listens, compromises as needed, is compassionate.
        3. By all accounts she is a great listener and really understands policy. She wants to get things done, and realizes that that takes nitty gritty work.
        4. Her admirable commitment to women’s and children’s issues.

That’s off the top of my head and without looking for a list of accomplishments. After 30+ years of relentless attacks on her parenting, looks, character, beliefs (it’s interesting that she is simultaneously too liberal and too conservative for so many), a) they haven’t really found anything and b) she’s still standing and still willing to work for our country. That ain’t bad.

However in what way are Trumps promises of chaos and destruction any less empty. And let’s all be clear here, politicians always make empty promises. It’s the name of the game. They pander to the public to get the vote and then maybe follow through on one or two of those promises. All governments do this.
I understand not wanting to vote for Hillary, but honestly your options are frightening and dangerous. VERY dangerous. How can you in good faith support not voting and give that cheetoh a chance? I really don’t understand how rationally anyone could support not voting and/or voting for Hitler redux. I do not get it..

At least HRC has some idea of how being president works. You can’t argue she has more experience for the job than Trump. She’s been both First Lady and Secretary of State under Obama. I would feel safer knowing she was in charge of foreign affairs and not Trump.

The problem isn’t addressing your concerns, it’s that no matter how many times people do address those concerns with facts, scientific studies, and researched reports it does nothing to actually penetrate the bubble of logic you’ve decided to support.

Your presidential nominee had a convention that included one senator saying no other race has done as much as white people, calling immigrants murderers, physically threatening a fellow candidate and his wife just because he refused to support the nominee, and calling for firing squads and you want to take a guess as to why blacks or any POC might have trouble finding and attaining work? Police literally shot a man lying on his back with his hands extended and you wonder why poverty stricken black communities might have trouble finding value in each other’s lives?

      You are a parrot.

Seriously, name me one other field where you’d intentionally chose an amateur. (Note: Horse-racing doesn’t count, because it’s not like the rest of us are going to sport you guys a handicap if you elect the trainee jockey.)

I agree and disagree. The problem I have with career politicians is that they grew up in this flawed system and are jaded and see lying as normal. They also, have very little idea of what “real” people go through, or how to run a business or how to be self-sufficient. Their life experience is very limited, and by the time they are old enough to be President, they owe so many people so many favors that you have no idea who you’re voting for. I think there should be term limits for senators and congressmen. But Trump isn’t much different. He grew up rich and has no idea what the average person faces, either, or how to start with nothing and build something. So he’s not any better.

The last American president not to have held political office was Dwight D Eisenhower. He had been Commander of Allied Land Forces in WW2 of course, but it’s not like that’s as difficult as being on a TV programme….I hope American voters – or enough of them – realise how totally unfit for office Trump is.

    • Tiffany :) says:

Trump has no experience in public service. While you might pause that Hillary has a long career in politics, doesn’t it also make you pause that someone wants to run the government that has never participated in the running of it on ANY level? This is someone who has only worked for himself his entire life.

Look at the way he responded to Brexit. He didn’t care that a drop in the british currency would hurt US exports (and American companies and therefore American workers). All he cared about was that it would help his foreign golf course. That is how he looks at things: not what is best for American citizens, what is best for himself!

      • tami says:

No..he doesnt have experience in public service…and thank god! News flash…the lifetime politicians dont have actual jobs…they spout of words for the little man and are millionaires! I mean…might as well have a millionaire who employed thousands through construction, casinos, etc! I liked bernie, but dont like or trust hillary so the choice is easy for me…trump!

      • Tiffany :) says:

He “employs” people, but then he doesn’t pay them. The majority of the 35000 lawsuits against him are for this reason. I posted above:

“He has a long history of hiring contractors and employees under specific terms, only to not pay them after the work has been done.

He’s like a mobster.”

You can’t run a government like that. Government has responsibilities.

      • holly hobby says:

Plus he needs a civics lesson. Being a president doesn’t mean you’re all powerful. Congress and the Supreme Court has a say too. That’s why there are three branches of govt – to ensure no one ends up being a dictator.

His “I’m going to do this and that” is totally laughable. You need to get Congress to sign off on it, you loser. That’s why there was a government shutdown a few years ago. Congress refused to work with Obama to pass the budget. Gawd, why am I explaining this to a 70 year old man?

Thank you so much for posting this Tiffany. I’m so sick of people acting like Trump is going to be good for the economy simply because he’s a self-proclaimed billionaire. People should do their homework and look at the man’s business practices. He’s a fraud and a crook. He’s not a real job creator. If you don’t want to trust Hillary and what the Democrats say, go back and look at what Rubio and Cruz said about the man during the GOP primaries when they finally decided to let loose and tell the truth about the man.
He’s a crook. This isn’t about ideology. I’m not a fan of Cruz or Bush AT ALL but at least I can understand why someone might support them. Trump? I will never understand it. He’s a straight up conman. When will people get this?

    • Lynnie says:

      ?????????????????

Does it upset you that more white people receive food stamps than any other race in america? And that despite only being 2% of the population black males between 15-34 make up 15% of deaths by police? I know Trump didn’t get punished, but it’s upsetting to me that he can get away with raping Ivana and go on to get this far running for President…

See I can cherry pick statistics and stories too. You concern trolling doesn’t help “agrican americans.” Examining the systematic problems and being able to realize all the nuances of the situation does.

As for career politicians, everyone in the Senate is a career politician. The majority of the Republican Presidential candidates before they dropped out were a career politicians. Most if not all politicians running today in all politicians are in it for a career. I hope you’re serious about not voting for anyone that resembles that instead of using it as a convenient “legitimate” excuse for not voting for Hillary.

I get it if you want someone who doesn’t seem like a lobbyist mouthpiece. I’m sure you could support someone who actually has a brain, policies, and some clue of what he’s doing though.

Why am i “trolling” if i disagree with you?

      • Lynnie says:

Look up what concern trolling is. It’s not a question of why, it IS what you’re doing. If you don’t have the self-awareness to realize that then that’s on you.

Wow lynnie..forgive me but im pretty sure i can support whoever i want to.

@tami You should want to vote for Hillary Clinton because she’s a lifetime politician. Clinton is the doctor Trump is the guy pretending to be a doctor. And lets not even talk about his hate speech which has been encouraging racists *sses for months now.

Yeah, good luck with your “blunt” and “brave” candidate. Sadly. US politics afects the whole world and Trump will screw us all because a bunch of racists can’t figure the difference between a conservative and a dictator.

I worked with an attorney who is a longtime Republican and always will be and believes in the party and definitely will never be a Democrat. But he was furious over Trump’s remarks. He works in Workers’ Compensation, so works with a lot of undocumented and documented workers from Mexico. He said his experience has made him do a 180 on how immigration reform should be done, and absolutely disagrees with Trump. He said they take many of the jobs others in America won’t do. They work hard. They support so many extended family members while making little themselves. He shared so many stories. .

Trumps remarks were disgusting. I don’t know how anyone can have any respect for that man.

        His comment:

“When Mexico sends its people, they’re not sending their best. They’re not sending you. They’re not sending you. They’re sending people that have lots of problems, and they’re bringing those problems with us. They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists. And some, I assume, are good people.”

  35. Insomniac says:

I sure find it interesting that Clinton hasn’t named her VP yet. Remember in 2008 when Obama had a strong convention speech and McCain announced Palin the very next morning? I guess Hillary doesn’t want to step on all the negative Trump coverage today. Smart move.

I wish we had a three party system, too. I can’t stand either party now and there is hopeless gridlock.

    • Betsy says:

No, they can’t. You want third party candidates to be taken seriously? Vote in mid term elections. Show up for local elections. If you love the Green Party, tell the Green Party you want to see more candidates at your all level.

But don’t waste a vote in a presidential election. If Nader isn’t an instructive example for you, see what Ross Perot did for Clinton. At this point, third party voting in a presidential election is wishful thinking.

      • kri says:

Very true @Betsy and @Tiffany- you elaborated for me what I could not as I was at work at the time. Yes, this is how it happens. We begin local, then state, etc.. But we must begin. One person I work with (very young) was under the impression we were only “allowed” a 2 party sysytem. That goes to show how little some people really know. Expand your knowledge, expand your choices, expand the possibilties. Again peace to you all.

    • Tiffany :) says:

If you want a strong 3rd party, it needs to happen on the lower levels, giving the 3rd party a strong level of support at the state and local level. It is impossible to just toss a 3rd party candidate into the Presidential election and expect them to make a dent. Voters aren’t familiar enough with their platform or their style of governance. Build a good reputation in state legislatures, then expand.

    • Who ARE these people? says:

Another time, maybe. Not this year. This year the reality is stark and your choice is between Clinton and Trump. You have to pick one.

A third party made all the difference here in Canada. It’s because of the NDP (at that time, Social Democrats) that we have universal health care. I was on the road today and happened to turn on the radio to a morning fun type show, but they are kind of rednecks and Republican from what I could tell. They had a retired four-star general on. He said assault type weapons should be banned, that they have absolutely no place in a civilian’s hands and there is no reason for them to be legally sold to civilians. He said they are designed to do a lot of damage to the body in war, so that it takes more people off the field to tend to that soldier, and that that’s the only place they should be. And they really listened to him and respected his opinion.

It’s common sense to ban assault-type weapons. This is what Republicans are fighting against? Unbelievable.

    • Who ARE these people? says:

Yes, that’s exactly what the Republicans are fighting for. The right to play soldier on the streets, in the schools and in the playgrounds of American.

    • Christin says:

Oh yes, that’s one of the top ‘issues’ to the anti-HRC people in my area. ‘They’re gonna take our weapons!’ You see, that meanie Bill signed a ban in the 1990s that was later lifted.

If the show you heard was syndicated, I bet it had two guys’ names as the title and originates out of NC. They are strongly Repub, cater to a racin’ and huntin’ fanbase, and often have military guests.

  41. Dinah says:

If Trump so loves America, why didn’t he run for mayor of NYC after 9/11? He’s an egotist who expects to start at the top and work his way up on the backs of what will be a broken nation.

I was a Bernie girl but am in no way stupid enough to throw my vote away. Hill it is. Liar or not, she is not going to destroy us or sink this country. Common sense means voting for her now. Anything to keep Trump or any REPUBLICAN the eff OUT. Maybe next time, Bern. Time to be smart. I can’t afford to move to a different country with my son just yet if Trump wins nor would I wish this tragic hair piece debacle on anyone even if I could. My gut tells me he won’t win. But I suspect there will be a division afterward and Trump will be happy. He is evil. He will want people to fight and die in his name. He will want chaos. He just wants to win. He could GAF about America. If he loses, he would rejoice if there is a terrorist attack if he could somehow say I told you so however irrational. He’s said as much with his past tweets regarding others misfortune. He is the kinda guy that would embrace mass murder in exchange for praise. I hope soldiers and the right realize he would easily see them dead for a compliment and to be “right”. White house?? This bittch belongs in the big house. I pray he is one day hit with so much empathy he can’t stand it. May he one day feel everything he’s done. That is punishment enough.

Well said. I think he is a seriously deranged and scary individual. Hillary may not be perfect – by a long shot – but she can at least be trusted not to start WWIII just for an ego boost.

  43. Kath says:

I really don’t understand how any sane person could vote for this sociopath. I feel physically sick just looking at Trump.

America’s standing in the world plummeted during the Bush years, and we’re still dealing with the fall out from the destabilisation of the Middle East with rising extremism, the refugee crisis etc.

Obama did a LOT to repair relations with the rest of the world – but I think electing Trump as president would be the end of the US as we know it, and certainly the end of a lot of bilateral relationships. There is no way in hell my country, or any other Western power, will be willingly led into another stupid, pointless war.

Living in a country with compulsory voting (Australia) – we are well used to the concept of picking the LEAST BAD CHOICE. You may not love Hillary, but she is at least a rational, normal human being. You don’t have to be in love with a candidate to get your arse off the couch and vote.

I will hold smug, clueless progressives like Susan Sarandon personally responsible if the world ends up with a Trump presidency because they were too precious to vote for someone they weren’t 100% in love with.

The idea that a Trump presidency would bring on a left-wing ‘revolution’, as some Bernie Bros believe, is just ludicrous. Firstly, a lot of people die during ‘revolutions’; and secondly, it shows how out of touch they are with the rest of the country.

Please put aside your misgivings about a less-than-perfect candidate and VOTE to save us from Trump.

I came in from the pool with a bunch of kids mad at me for making them come in, but just to watch Tim Kaine’s first speech in real-time, introducing himself. He was absolutely amazing. Boring he is not, and his life story and the way he lives his life is not just as a privileged old white man. And when did a man in his early 50s become old? He worships in a Catholic church that is primarily African-American. His children attended public schools that were primarily African American majority. He believes in the public school system.. He still lives in the first home he moved into there with his wife. He graduated from Harvard Law School, but chose to be a civil rights lawyer. People are walking back their negative views now on the pick. Hillary did a great pick. We need Warren in the Senate. Kaine is a good pick for Hillary as far as a swing state.

Donald Trump refuses to release his tax returns, when everyone else always does. Hmmmm….. What is he hiding? Stick with your old white men who want to take the country back 50 years. No one cares.

Tim Kaine’s first ever speech as Hillary’s VP pick today in Miami. On the video, go to the 1 hour mark for anyone interested. That’s where he comes on. It was very inspiring and a fantastic speech.

I am a registered Dem. I am interested to hear everyone’s opinion of HRC after you view “Hillary’s America”. I saw it today. I’ve always been middle of the road, but dang. She truly is morally bankrupt. I always had a problem years ago with how she publicly slaughtered the women her husband cheated on her with. The whole email thing…this DNC Wikileaks thing. I am ready for a change. I’m voting for Trump because he is not a true conservative. I like that he says what a ton of people are thinking. I’ve been reading Celebitchy for years.

      “She is morally bankrupt”

      “I am voting for Trump”

Literally so many examples of why that’s ironic that it would be a bit of a waste to even touch on it.

So let’s move on to the fun stuff. David Dukes and other white supremacist leaders are also supporting Trump because he says what they’ve been thinking for years. The number and incidence of hate crimes and hate speech has spiked since Trump began his candidacy.

So when you say “He says what people are thinking.”

What exactly are YOU thinking that he’s saying?

First a quote to see if it sounds familiar:

They are the sacrifices any nation has to make to achieve law and order & I am law and order.~ Idi Amin Dada…

When people say HRC is morally bankrupt I look at the children’s defense fund & years working to make life better for families & the working class. I’ve seen the videos where she has said one thing in the past & now says another like most politicians have . This is what I think of that. I have a brother who 20 years ago was in the closet & lived the life he had to in order to survive. A woman in politics 20 years ago had similar battles, not as awful as he but misogyny is a pretty awful thing. Do I like HRC? Not particularly BUT she has spent a lifetime helping others where Trump has spent a lifetime helping himself. This man is a megalomaniac & he is dangerous. Mike Pence? Look at Indiana & how far he has moved it backwards. Vote for the preservation of SCOTUS. That is what is important. The rights of MANY will disappear if Trump is allowed to appoint justices. It is known!

I bloody hate that suggestion that the likes of Trump are simply voicing the views that the rest of us are just too PC to say. They bear no relation to my thoughts or those of many other people, thank goodness!

Ok…what do you think about wikileaks then? After being a former bernie supporter, it validated my belief that the dnc is corrupt and stifled his chances from the start. How is it at all diplomatic for his own party to be scheming how to get him.out and what strategies will get him ousted? Wasserman shultz has stepped down today, but the damage has already been done!
