Britney Spears releases a new single off ‘Glory’: is this Britney’s big comeback?

glory1

For a little while now, Britney has been teasing her new album, which is called Glory. Glory will be Britney’s first studio album since 2013’s Britney Jean, which seemed to come and go from people’s playlists quite rapidly. I don’t even remember any singles from that album. But Britney is rebooting and she wants to return to her dance-queen roots. So Glory will include many “club banger” songs that sound produced by Diplo, Calvin Harris, and all of those popular EDM folks. Here’s the first single, “Make Me.”

She’s also released “Clumsy” and “Private Show,” although there are no videos. And in the past 24 hours, Britney dropped her new single, “Do You Wanna Come Over.” Here’s a clip:

This seems to be the song that’s getting the most attention from music people. It’s being called a return to form for Brit, and yet it’s Britney-with-a-modern sensibility, a “Netflix & Chill” sensibility. Are you feeling it? Are you feeling any of it? I want Britney to do well, and I want her to have hit songs. I think “Do You Wanna Come Over” might be the one?

Britney’s also going to be performing at the VMAs this year. This will be her first VMA performance since 2006 (which was rather disastrous), and I’m hoping that Britney is well-prepped. For what it’s worth, she seems to have found a new balance in her life these days and she seems stronger, emotionally and mentally.

I don’t want to talk about her appearance and not her music, but I’m so tired of people being photoshopped within an inch of their lives. People have pores and armpits for god’s sake.

I was going to say… That doesn’t even look like Britney Spears! Did she get a nose job and do something to her lips? It seems like something beyond contouring.

      • QQ says:

I too don’t want to but the lighting in this video???? they all look like Matte Corpses and then those lips?? No

also The song? No… I kept scrubbing forward

    • lana86 says:

      her nose looks very thin

    • LeAnn Stinks says:

Don’t feel bad, my first thought when I saw the picture was, “Who’s face is that??” Either they thinned her nose in the picture, or she had it done…again.

Why do people keep saying she’s in such a good place and seems stronger, healthy, etc.? How does anybody know this? From Instagram pics and music videos? Britney is still Britney. Most of us have a soft spot for her because of her public melt down and knowing she was Disney/Mickey Mouse Club kid, we figure the business bruised her. She still has the same mental problems she had then, but it’s managed now with medication. I root for her because I think singing/dancing is all she knows how to do, but I don’t think she’s particularly talented at either. IMO she will be forever sort of child-like and needs protecting. She’s not strong. She’s fragile.

yes, she got another nose job last year.

    • Sarah says:

As in she has steadily performed multiple shows a week in Vegas for years with no reported messiness/unprofessionalism (she isn’t late, she doesn’t not show up, she is excited and energetic), she isn’t falling down drunk, she has regained a lot of fitness (her body is sick), her father has good control of her finances and she doesn’t have to make big decisions that she probably isn’t equipped to make, she has a lot of contact with her sons (don’t know where their custody stands now, but there isn’t bickering about it at least), she spends lots of time with her niece.

All of that signifies that she is doing a lot better than she was… is that not obvious?
Her mental health issues won’t just go away and as you said, she is being managed with medication. Just like hundreds of thousands of other people.

      • JenniferJustice says:

That’s merely functioning and being controlled. I’m glad for her. I just don’t get why we can’t be happy for her w/out exaggerating. She’s doing better as you say, but that’s not strong. That’s simply not messing up.

      • BendyWindy says:

Thank you for this, Sarah. I suffer from mental illness (not as severe as Britney’s) and I don’t appreciate the idea that because she’s on medication she can’t be feeling stronger and healthier. That’s what the medication is for. To help her function normally. Which she’s doing.

People aren’t saying she’s cured or that she’s better just because she looks hot in a bikini. They’re saying it because her actions are more coherent than they’ve been in a decade bad when she talks and performs you can see some of her former spark and not just a dead eyed doll.

    • Tiffany :) says:

I tend to agree, JenniferJustice. It kind of disturbs me when people equate looking good in a bikini to being mentally healthy. I hope she is in a good place, but they have put her on stage even when she wasn’t in a good place before.

“I root for her… but I don’t think she’s particularly talented at either.”

      I agree 100%.

I love Britney and I want good things for her but I don’t know about that song. Maybe I’m just getting old…

    • Mel M says:

Me too. I really want her to take that break but it seems like it’s never going to happen. I always wonder who she is around all the time, does she have female friends? Does she have any friends besides her family?

Her lips def. look done but not sure about anything else.

    • annaloo. says:

@kellyrae You took the words right out of my head. I am happy that Britney is well. Above all, I want her healthy and happy. But, that song is generic, auto tuned beyond anything I could enjoy without being distracted… obvious product placement in a music video is so gross…and Photoshop?…. good God, where do I begin?

I keep “oops I did it again” in my heart, and that is where I love Britney best, but I’m not into this stuff. It’s just too formulaic and generic- the pop song girl with the rapper that comes in midsong- and I’ve been around too long to be impressed by any of it anymore.

  4. AlleyCat says:

I love “make me”. Yeah, I said it. I’m so glad I had her as a pop singer over the starlets of today. Although who knows what she would have been like if social media was popular back then.

  5. It'sJustBlanche says:

If that is actually her butt in that video she has the butt to end all butts. That’s all I took from it.

  6. Betti says:

I have a lot of love for Brit and that song is catchy and harks back to when she was at her height – am sure it will be a hit for her.

Am glad she’s releasing a new album and yes she certainly seems stronger and generally in a good place, i hope she stays there. Thou she will never be what she once was.

Am sad that she’s felt the need to less with her face – she was so lovely as she was.

  7. Dippit says:

My daughter and I root for Britney. Despite all her troubles, she has never seemed anything less than a genuinely lovely person who enjoys making music (just doesn’t necessarily enjoy some of the PR aspects and vultures in the industry).

I know from personal experience how difficult balance is to maintain with her disorder; I can’t, however, begin to imagine what it’s like to keep battling your brain’s dodgy wiring whilst living such a high profile life and in her circumstances. That is additional to anything I’ve ever had to experience; and I’ve had to adjust so much of my life to maintain at times. Her adjustments must be tenfold.

I like the new sound. Will support her all the way. I hope she has better people around her now doing the same.

  8. me says:

Ok how many “comebacks” has she had now?

  9. Jackrabbit says:

What is with EOS lip balm being featured in videos (like the one from Miley Cyrus)……having all these strategic product placements (think Jennifer Lopez’s “Ain’t Your Mama”) cheapens the effect. Can studios no longer afford to produce videos for their “stars”, do they really need to be sponsored? It drives me mad and I dislike feeling like I’m being pitched to for 3 minutes instead of entertained.

  10. Betsy says:

I have such a soft spot for Brit Brit, but I always worry she’d rather be doing something else, as private citizen. I have no proof of this, but I worry after her.

    • JenniferJustice says:

I really don’t think so. She seems to genuinely enjoy what she does. I don’t think anyone is forcing her to do anything or even manipulating her. I admire her father for how he stepped up and has maintained his presence in her life and career. I believe he does have her best interest at heart.

  11. Minervakate says:

I was at her first show back from her summer break (last night) and it was AWESOME!! She performed Make Me and Do You Wanna Come Over and they were both amazing! She looked awesome and her body is ridiculous!!! Great show!!

  12. Specialp says:

She needs to hang up that hat. That’s a horrible song and her time is up.

  13. Bread and Circuses says:

She looks really good, doesn’t she? (It’s a good song, too.)

Her body looks phenomenal, and this video had her dancing without it looking like they were trying to hide the fact her old knee injuries don’t allow her to do certain moves anymore.

  14. Julie says:

I love Make Me. It’s so much better than any song on the radio right now.

  15. Lulu says:

I LOVE Make Me, and Private Show and Clumsy are good and then when I played Do You Wanna Come Over I was like hell yes Britney is BACK. I can’t wait for the full album. Playing these four songs on repeat until then.

  16. Amanda DG says:

I am no Britney fan, but I love Make Me! Private Show is awful though…I hate the chipmunk voice effects they do on her! Clumsy doesn’t impress me…. and Do You Wanna Come Over is a little annoying, but maybe it will grow on me.
