Duchess Kate wore $30 skinny pants from the Gap today: cute or budget?

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge did another day of work today, this time in Gloucestershire. Their outdoor event almost got canceled because of rain though. The plan was to travel to the Isles of Scilly where they would do a handful of events. I’m looking through @KensingtonRoyal and it seems like they only had to cancel one of those events. They went to visit the Eden Project, where they took a tour (and that’s where these photos come from), plus they stopped by the Tresco Garden. You can see more photos here.

For the day’s activities, Kate wore one of her favorite navy blazers – this is her Smythe blazer, which we’ve seen several times before. It costs £462 and it’s a pretty classic, versatile navy blazer, not really all that notable. Kate paired the blazer with a pair of skinny-cut pants from The Gap, and that’s what’s getting a lot of attention. The pants cost $30. So she’s being called the Discount Duchess again. She also wore those same ugly Monsoon wedges again.

The most impressive thing to me is that Kate pulled her hair back, probably because of the rain. I suspect, judging from those pesky paparazzi photos of Kate on her many tropical holidays, that her hair puffs like crazy in high humidity.

She looks great in those cute pants.

    • mar_time says:

In these pictures yes, there are many more on the Daily Mail and she’s just wearing those pants so wrong.. With that blazer on top, her lower half looks even slimmer than usual and it’s causing a weird imbalance. A long cardigan would have looked much better and obviously different shoes

      • crumbcake says:

I was just going to say a similar thing — I don’t dislike the pants, but the top/bottom combination makes her look way out of proportion. I think a softer, less structured/flowing shirt would have balanced things out a lot better.

    • enuff said says:

Love em…wish I could wear them!!!

    • minx says:

      Very cute.

    • S says:

Adorable pants and she looks so cute in them! I am on the search for timeless blazers and may have to try out the Smythe one. I would absolutely wear this look to work.

    • karen says:

The trousers are inappropriately tight. Hotpant- come on! I think her look is too often an attempt at sexy, and in my opinion, she’s not dressing in a manner fitting for her ridiculous role. Kings and queens in this day and age is ridiculous.

  2. Cherry says:

Ugh, skinny indeed. I know I shouldn’t be body-shaming anybody, but girlfriend needs a sandwich.

    • Lama Bean says:

      And a pickle.

    • HH says:

She is skinny and while I think she looked better during her dating years, she doesn’t look unhealthy here. I think her weight isn’t helped by her very narrow hips. It gives her the illusion of looking too skinny. However, Kate has never had curves, so to speak.

      • Liv says:

How can print pants like these make you look skinny? She’s way too thin and looked much better when she had more weight on. I have friends who are skinny, but lool natural. She doesn’t.

    • PoliteTeaSipper says:

If you know you shouldn’t be body shaming keep your sandwich comments to yourself.

    • RN says:

So fascinating how thin women are told to “eat a sandwich” but overweight/obese women are fat NOT because of food, but because of their PCOS/thyroid/genetics. Also, fat activists swear that they are healthy and that you can’t tell how healthy someone is just by looking at them, but thin women are automatically unhealthy and need to eat more food.

The mental gymnastics are so interesting to watch.

      • Llamas says:

There’s a difference between thin and unhealthy. My cousin is insanely tall and barely passes 100 lbs but you can tell she’s very clearly built extremely thin. Unhealthy is when someone is being unhealthy in order to attain an unnatural figure for them specifically. Being sickly skinny when it’s clear that extreme dieting is the cause should never be praised. Huge difference and its in no way body shaming thin people.

      • Tiffany :) says:

“Unhealthy is when someone is being unhealthy in order to attain an unnatural figure for them specifically. Being sickly skinny when it’s clear that extreme dieting is the cause should never be praised.”

Unless you are the woman’s doctor, you can’t tell if they are thin because of extreme dieting. Let’s stop pretending that armchair diagnosing is accurate.

      • kaiko says:

True, but look around you— it’s much easier to be fat than thin!! So wouldn’t it stand to reason that since most people obviously would choose to be fit or skinny, that those who are grossly overweight/obese are only so because of some serious health problem that prevents them from being more slim and avoiding all the public shaming that fat people also face? If I were a naturally skinny woman who felt “shamed” by others over my innate thinness, wouldn’t it be quite a bit easier ( I would imagine, I don’t know for certain-anyone who is is welcome to prove me wrong) to add in enough healthy calories to my DE in order to buff up my frame to a less ‘starved’ look, albeit still slender then for all those obese people to take off that extra weight? As most of us know, losing weight is usually a helluva lot harder than gaining…but I’m not sure that is truly the problem here. I think DK diets herself to this state. By and large most women (and men) want to be seen as somewhere between healthy slim (95% of us) or seriously VS secret model-esquely underweight, like our darling DK. I don’t think being “too thin” is a universally common problem. I believe the reverse is true, ie the US/UK obesity epidemic.

      • Betti says:

You have to see her in person to see how unhealthily thin she actually is. I saw her in the flesh a few months after her wedding and i could literally see her bones sticking out – she was wearing thick black tights and knee high boots and i could still make out the bone structure of her knees. I know others who have seen her and have made the same observations. Photos and videos add 10lbs to you.

      • Snarkweek says:

Using Kate as a gateway to body shame and concern troll is harmful. It is not in anyone’s interest to tell someone who is thin to eat a sandwich nor is it good to tell an overweight person what they should do to lose weight. For one reason it is such an objective thing and for another reason it is no one’s business. The excuse given is that people are looking to celebrities as role models for their body image and these celebrities are catering to that. But that has nothing to do with an individual decision to bang on about another person’s weight.

      • graymatters says:

I’m fat because of overeating. I’m otherwise healthy and I exercise, but I went through a difficult time a few years ago and stress-ate. I’ve lost 25 or so of those pounds, but I’m still 40 pounds over what I was at my healthiest. I’ve also developed an inconvenient addiction to spicy cheetos.

Kate looks to be on the lower end of her healthy weight range. The trousers are (of course) ridiculously tight and I don’t like the weird back cutout of the blazer, but I think from the ankle up, she looks good. Does she buy her trousers in child sizes, do you think? I wouldn’t have thought that her size would be standard.

      • Sequinedheart says:

        THIS comment!!!!

“Thin women are told to eat a sandwich while fat women are never told to get to a gym”

I have been lean all my life and sorry if I piss anyone off with this fact, but I eat a snickers bar (full sized) with my coffee 3/5days a week. I eat full meals and have never made an effort to eat less. Women in my office felt it was completely OK to say that I must hide food in the hollows of my legs or that bitch can eat whatever she wants… It made me extremely uncomfortable.

They’re all overweight and do you think I would ever tell them to go for a run? Or lay off the tamales? Never.

        Please don’t body shame anyone.
Poke fun at DK’s wedges of doom or her royal biscuit flashing the cameras. Good lord, the woman has so many other comical elements to have fun with beside her shape and size.

      • shewolf says:

THANK YOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU RN! You said it perfectly!

    • NYer says:

I think she looks good. On the thin side, but still good. But also consider I’m jealous that she doesn’t look like she had 2 kids in fairly rapid succession. I’m still struggling with the weight from one kid, who’s now 3…

    • bettyrose says:

      Cherry,
ITA and honestly I don’t mind the sandwich comment. I know a lot of young men who are going low/no carb and look waaaaaay too skinny to me (it’s like a hipster thing now for men to be crazy skinny), and I totally use the “eat a sandwich line.” Jokingly, of course, but still to me the comment is not about body shaming as much as “no carb” shaming.

      • Aang says:

My husband is naturally super thin. Wirey muscles and long thin legs like a marathon runner. He eats soooo much and is always hungry. It drives me nuts. He always asks “is that all you are going to eat” and then cleans my plate. And I’m the one who could loose a few lbs. 🙄

      • bettyrose says:

        Aang:
Definitely, there are men who are naturally super-thin (and some women too, I guess, but it seems to be more common for men). However, the young men I’m talking about openly brag about their no-carb lifestyles (and I’m not just talking starchy carbs, like no fruit either). They talk about it in the breakroom at work, so I’ve learned a lot.

  3. Ravensdaughter says:

She is so thin, so of course she can wear Gap pants. They look good on her.

I appreciate budget from the Royals every now and then; it’s not like Kate goes budget on her formal wear!

    • kaiko says:

A cynical person might realize that she only goes ‘budget’ for a photo op of “Duchess going ‘budget'”

      • bettyrose says:

A more cynical person might think she’d pay any price to wear pants that fit her like underwear, but double bonus, she doesn’t have to. Cotton-lycra blends fit all budgets.

Like Ravensdaughter, I like a “budget” look, but that’s because I just don’t appreciate high priced fashion. Any savvy shopper can find unique looks in the discount aisle, but this ensemble is not the right look for a thirtysomething public figure.

      • kaiko says:

@bettyrose–LOL! Yes, indeed. I stand corrected. I don’t get “high fashion” either, and highly doubt I would even if I had her kind of cash to splash. Well made, tailored clothing I own in droves, nothing simply for the label. But then again, maybe she gets most of the $$$$ stuff for free? As in people give it to her just for publicity? I don’t know. As for the skintight jeggings and pants ALL THE TIME, I can only concur she likes to have her legs and butt the center of attention, perhaps to distract from her vapidness and unsuitability for the role she holds.

    • Stephanie says:

We have seen that Kate will get ripped if she wears something expensive and ripped if she wears something inexpensive, so she should wear what she wants. I think she looks great here, and like the hair pulled back!!

      • Thomas says:

She’s so overhyped. She’s nothing special really and I find her fashion sense either dull or tacky. No elegance and she is terribly thin. It does not look good IMO or natural.

  4. Jb says:

Awful. Hate the pants. Palazzo pants would look fabulous, classic well tailored trousers but this?

    • INeedANap says:

Omg I know. GIRL. Wear TROUSERS. WORK APPROPRIATE PANTS.
Does she not have any women in her circle who have held a real job and can teach her the ways of pantsuits??

      • CeeCee says:

I agree. Kate is young, but she’s a future queen. I can’t imagine Queen Letizia (also young) wearing these.

      • bettyrose says:

Yeah, I agree.Thank you for putting it in words. I don’t like the look at all. It’s very “college girl.” I don’t mind her wearing casual clothes, but even denim jeans come in options: more casual to more dressy, and certainly slacks have dressier but still casual options that would work here.

      • Nicole8672 says:

Thank you thank you thank you. The pants are cute if you are running errands with your children but not for a professional engagement! Seriously what is wrong with Kate and her team!!!! You are supposed to be a professional. Please take guidance from Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden or Queen Letizia of Spain. And I just can’t with those wedges.

      • Coconut says:

Letizia, Mary, Victoria, Madeleine…Cannot think of any young royal women wearing spray-on pants to an official event!!! There are so many cute royal-appropriate, professional pants she would look great in. Slim, wide, long, cropped…you name it! “College girl” is right @bettyrose.

And there are so many cute shoes in the world. Why must she almost always choose the…most…boring shoes…in the most boring colors?

      • INeedANap says:

        @CeeCee
Not a dig on you at all, but for comparison — I’m four years younger than Kate, at work on a Friday afternoon before a long weekend, and wearing straight-cut olive green trousers with a petal pink silk button-down blouse and closed toe pumps. If I can do it on my broke-a$$ Marshalls/Ross/TJMaxx budget, so can she.

      • kori says:

Letizia is a fan of skinny pants and skinny jeans. She’s also rocked a very tight pair of rubber? Lycra? Pants for a rock n roll look. She usually keeps it to casual events though with some trousers otherwise. But she does wear them. She got a lot of attention for some cropped skinny pants at an official event. They weren’t super tight but others have been.

      • notasugarhere says:

Letizia may wear cropped trousers and fitted cigarette pants. The leather cropped pants at the fashion event were not “very tight” they fit her properly. Letizia does not wear the gynecologically tight pants that Middleton favors.

    • als says:

I don’t think she would ever like palazzo pants although they are 1000 more elegant and comfortable.
She prefers these gynocological pants, which is what they are regardless of where she keeps her clutch. And the posture is beyond non-royal.

    • JustBitchy says:

Trousers are what a future queen should be wearing

Let’s face it she loves being thin and how clothes look on her. What else woUld she wear skinny pants every chance she gets.

      No problem with shaming her

    • Alix says:

These look more like leggings than pants, so not entirely appropriate in my mind.

      • vava says:

They really aren’t very flattering or professional looking, even for someone as svelte as Kate. They are best worn during personal time. That’s what Kate doesn’t get, I doubt she ever will, tbh. Kate would look great in some fantastic tailored trousers, or something akin to what Audrey Hepburn wore (cute cropped pants with some ease, flats, or a block heel). Kate is being guided by her mother I think, and it’s kind of a trainwreck at this point.

    • what's inside says:

I was taken aback at just how tiny she is. I also did not like the tight pants. This is work, not shopping at Target.

  5. HH says:

I do and don’t like these. On the Gap model they look far more like trousers than they do on Kate. I can’t tell if this is because she has muscular legs that make things more form fitting (like Pippa), or she ordered a size smaller than she should have. The choice of clutch is odd with the outfit because it has a “glam” look to it. This would be cute with a more casual clutch. Would have also enjoyed a ponytail as well. Despite my suggestions for improvements, I do like this look on her. It’s nice that she’s branching out into pants/trousers. I hope she keeps that up.

    • Bridget says:

Kate’s legs aren’t muscular like Pippa’s. Kate seems to go with a line of thinking similar to Tracy Anderson – no big muscles. Her legs are very long and lean. That isn’t to say that she has no muscle or strength at all, but those pants are clearly a size that is intended to be close fitting.

      • vava says:

        Her legs aren’t long…..

      • layla says:

Agreed … her legs are anything but long!

She has a very long torso and short legs (comparatively). Girlfriend is always hiding this fact with her high waist dresses and blazers (her dress waists are always NOTABLY above her actual natural waist line) to create the illusion of longer legs.

      • Bridget says:

Sorry, “long and lean” is usually the way folks try to describe the way they want muscles to look with that sort of exercise. Though thanks for making sure to correct me right away.

      • Bridget says:

I am also clearly old and grouchy.

      • Mae says:

These pics are a bit misleading though, I think it’s the angle. Usually you can clearly see that Kate has calf muscles, and I saw other pics of this day where they were visible. She has muscular legs for a woman and I think they look like Pippa’s in most photos I’ve seen. I am a lifelong skier and my legs look quite similar.

    • Zimmerman says:

I know. I love them and hate them. For a regular girl, the outfit is cute. For a royal, the pants are a bit too casual for work, but better than jeggings. I think she’s obsessed with showing every curve!

    • layla says:

Agreed – on the Gap model those pants are no where near as jegging like.

    • bluhare says:

I like the pants. I’d wear them. And I think Kate looks great. But I’d have bought a size larger if I were her. Then they would still be very slim fitting but not so bloody tight.

  6. Betti says:

I almost fell over – she’s wearing pants AND has the mop tied out of her face. BUT THOSE WEDGES!!!!!

    • Lucky Charm says:

Navy flats would work so much better with this outfit. And I don’t understand why she never accessorizes with long necklaces.

      • imqrious2 says:

I think long necklaces would be a hindrance when she bends over to talk to someone (like a child). It would swing onto their head.

I love lapel pins; I’d love to see her use some on her jackets, but that’s just me 😊

If you look over on the DM, she does have flats on in some pics (those awful deck shoes that’ve seen better days). I agree some brogues would’ve looked cute and fun, or even just some loafers in navy. Girl NEEDS a *real* stylist STAT!

      • notasugarhere says:

She does. She has the long mummy necklace given to her via Pippa as a freebie. And the ugly $80,000 Cartier.

    • Locke Lamora says:

Yeah, I love the outfit, minus the shoes. Dark brogues would look so good with the outfit. I’m glad she doesn’t accessorize because for me, necklaces ruin outfits 90% of the time.

  7. The Original Mia says:

Yes, skinny cut pants are totally appropriate when performing ones duty. But since it’s taken her years to figure out what she wanted to be when she grew up, it’s obvious her styling is going to lag far far behind.

    • vava says:

No, her skinny pants that she wears are not appropriate, imo. They need to have more ‘ease’. These, and the others, are too form-fitting for someone in her royal status. They are TACKY for a “senior royal”.

  8. Sullivan says:

    She looks cute.

  9. Bridget says:

Those pants certainly highlight how this she is.

    They are also incredibly ugly.

    • vava says:

I think these pants visually add weight to her, and that is not a bad thing in her case. But they are really styled poorly……those shoes………….again.

      • JustBitchy says:

Agree with you earlier. Her legs are not long and that’s why the heals all the time

I was seated at next table in a restaurant to her and the mom ad pips, none of them has long legs. The torsos are very long – legs long by heals. Notice pips doesn’t wear heals as much so her legs look much shorter. Not Kate

All are very thin and I am sure very healthy but long legs not so much.

  10. Tourmaline says:

Much cuter and dressier looking than her usual pants. The fun pattern helps distract the eye from how super formfitting they are. (Non skinny trousers would be a nice change but she apparently owns none). Blazer good and professional looking. Like the hairdo. Two thumbs up.

  11. Elisa the I. says:

great outfit, minus the wedges. Even small feet look hoofy with wedges.

  12. ReineDidon says:

I think the pants are so unflattering ! She looks good from the waist up ….

  13. MinnFinn says:

    I don’t mind her pants.

One of the journos said at first Kate didn’t realize the baby dinosaur was a puppet. What else could it have been?!!

Others were speculating that press pen was located on the beach today closest to the sea and that was pre-meditated so they would have hustle their equipment out of the way as the tide came in. The accompanying photo of K & W heads together grinning makes me think it could be true.

Another said of yesterday that the construction worker taking the selfie did not wolf whistle at Kate.

    • Erinn says:

      Embarassing story:

When our family went to Disney we did one of the rides at Animal Kingdom. Towards the end there is a truck or something with a robot baby elephant poking it’s head out. I ended up saying “oh that’s so cu-” intending to say cute, but stopped mid-word. Because I realized how dumb I sounded once I got closer and realized it was a robot. Just instinctively stating how cute the baby elephant was. After we’d left the ride my dad admitted he was so glad I was the one to have said it because he almost did the same.

      • Brittney B. says:

Robots can be cute!! I coo every time at the animatronic baby aliens on Universal’s ET ride… same for the baby dinos at Disney. No reason to be ashamed!

    • Tourmaline says:

I LOL at this dino thing. maybe she’s just watched Jurassic World and is confused?

    • Betti says:

LOL why are we not surprised that she still thinks dinosaurs exists – she still thought Faberge made their famous eggs. Thou if I’m going to be kind maybe she didn’t realise what kind of animal it was.

Re: the press pen. Doesn’t surprise me that they thought it were funny – the Canada trip is going to be great. I need to make sure and follow the royal press pack on twitter to keep up to date with the ‘snark’ during the tour. It was quite fun during the India/Bhutan tour.

The builder has already said he didn’t whistle at her – he just wanted to take a selfie. The Fail made it up – shock horror!

  14. Lilacflowers says:

Wait! The Gap has $30 pants? The Gap for kids, right?

The pants and blazer would have looked nice with a pair of navy ballet flats. Burn those hideous wedges.

    • AlleyCat says:

That’s what I was thinking! In what world does The Gap sell pants for $30??

However, I really like her outfit here.

NO ONE knows frizzy poof until you’ve been my hair in any temperature above 70.

  15. amilu says:

I think she looks adorable — cute AND budget.

    • detritus says:

I know, I love those pants. Was thinking $30 bucks, damn I’m gonna buy them. So much hate though, I may have to rethink my sartorial choices.

      • amilu says:

        Hahaha!

I know my chunky butt would look ridiculous in printed pants, but she wears them well, I think. But you’re right — we’re in the minority.

    • Bitsi says:

She looks cute and appropriate. Royal or not, who wears fancy pants on the beach and a boat ride? It wasn’t a yacht but a tug boat and that attraction looked like it was in the forest. If the crooked toothed Sofia had worn same thing she’d be complimented for her realness.

  16. NGBoston says:

She looks great and casual but her shoe game needs improvement.

  17. Realitycheck says:

Is it normal that your lower body is smaller than your shoulders? Because if you diet you can’t change bone and her shoulder width is all bone.

    • LAK says:

That is what is known as the inverted triangle body type where your shoulders are wider than your hips.

It’s one of 4 body types that women have.

In everyday usage, the inverted triangle body type is often described as having swimmers shoulders, if being kind and having footballer shoulders if being unkind.

Famous women with this body type include Liz Hurley, Elle Macpherson, Leanne Rimes, Charlene of Monaco and many models because it’s the preferred body type in the fashion industry.

    • PrincessMe says:

Well hips are bones too. So if her hips are smaller than her shoulder, don’t you think they’re naturally so?

  18. Tourmaline says:

I know her clutching her clutch to her crotch is a “thing” she always does but, it really does look strange in all these pictures. Really why does she have to hold on to a tiny purse for dear life at an event like this? We know for sure she ALWAYS has Rebecca Deacon walking in her shadow watching her like a hawk, couldn’t Deacon carry her tissue and lipstick or whatever is packed in the little clutch?

    • HappyMom says:

It seems like it would such a pain with a clutch-you’re shaking hands, taking flowers, reaching out to touch babies and dinosaurs-and then you’re fumbling around with that too. Weird. I would gladly skip schlepping a purse around if I had an assistant!

    • Betti says:

Its clearly some sort of security thing for her – the only time you don’t see her behave like this is when she’s visiting Ben Anslie (or she’s doing something she enjoys). The maniacal facial expressions and crotch clutching only happen when she is uncomfortable and doesn’t want to be there or doing something she doesn’t want to (like meeting the peasants who are paying for her designer wardrobe and fancy holidays abroad that they try to pass off as ‘tours’).

    • LAK says:

The purse was the solution to touching her hair.

  19. Tiffany says:

This is what she should have worn to the event with the kids. No crotch shots.

  20. Citresse says:

Isn’t Kate’s outfit of skinny pants and a blazer suitable for passing out prizes on the polo field?…. in other words, not really appropriate for a royal engagement. I can’t imagine HM attempting to understand this look from the wife of a future King.
It’ll be interesting to see if W&K dress more formally once (if) William becomes POW. I don’t know….I think some of the royal mystique fades when senior members of the royal family start dressing so casually.
As for Kate’s hair, it looks good pulled away from her face and sometimes I think it looks good when Kate has some waves such as yesterday, it can look good when she works with the natural curl and not against it.

  21. Chetta B. says:

    Cute!

  22. Umm says:

Theyre in Cornwall for this trip, just FYI 🙂

  23. Starlight says:

Tight around the bum I expect – got to prove she still has it – not really Royal attire !

  24. Pandy says:

If I had a thousand cameras pointed at me at all times, you can bet i’d try to look my best! I don’t think she looks unnaturally thin. She’s totally not my body type – i’m envious! But I’m sure she watches her diet to look as good as she can in clothes (and she can wear anything really). That’s a large part of her “job”. Her face is lovely, she doesn’t look like she’s starving herself.

  25. vauvert says:

She just doesn’t know how to dress for the occasion. Dress and heels for going to visit kids, jeggins and wedges and the crotch and clutch of doom – every. single. time. I don’t understand why no one in her world is taking her aside and kindly pointing this out. There is a universe of purses and shoes out there yet she consistently gets it wrong. Her posture is a disaster too, and the way she grins like an idiot all the time, or her “concerned” look – pursed lips and widened eyes make her look silly. I object to royalty in general but at least I respect the ladies of other countries who seem to have serious, consistent interests and go out there and participate in tons of events (although all are mothers with young children too), meanwhile most of eth press continues to treat these two idiots with kid gloves, praising both for doing the bare minimum (or less).

  26. Jaded says:

Dear God….the jeggings and wedges of doom are back. When will she learn not to dress like a college-age Sloane ranger…

  27. Andrea says:

I like the outfit and don’t shoot me but the wedges look better with this look! Her hair finally looks good too.

I will however say she is far too skinny. I am a former anorexic who can spot one a mile away. I know the difference between naturally skinny and severe food restriction. She definitely restricts to the point of anorexia. If she ate normally, she’s be 20 lbs heavier like she was pre-engagement. It is sad the royal family continues to condone eating disorders and doesn’t get her the help that she needs.

    • cygne says:

Honey, anorexia is a mental disorder, unless you’ve got telepathy , i don’t think you can tell shes anorexic. Stop projecting your issues on her.

      • Andrea says:

I’ve seen many a co worker with a similar look. I had one co worker who would pick at her food every lunchtime and it would take her an entire hour to eat half a slice of pizza or she would push around her food. I am not psychic, but no one is that thin when you naturally are twenty pounds heavier (like Kate was pre-engagement unless you severely restrict your eating habits. She has zero muscle tone.

      • notasugarhere says:

She doesn’t lack muscle tone. We see her strong calf muscles every time she wears heels. She likely works out a couple hours a day with her personal trainer.

cygne, I’m getting tired of the projecting concern trolls as well. She is thin, underweight for her natural frame, but clearly strong and muscular. Throwing around anorexia diagnoses is inappropriate and harmful. I wish this site would ban discussion on her weight as others have.

      • Readeihh says:

IMO there is definately some issue with Kate and her Weight.
I wouldn’t be surprised if it leaked out one day.
        IMO she looks terrible.

      • notasugarhere says:

The “issue” is likely vanity not a mental disorder.

  28. Adele Dazeem says:

This outfit makes me think she’s hearing the criticism and trying to mix it up. A little.

I relate to the comments about the skinny pants/jegging trend because I for one don’t look good in those kinds of pants. I bucked the trend for years and finally figured that what worked for me was to wear slim fit pants and jeans–not skinny but not boot cut either. They lay close to the leg without a camel toe/legging effect. I feel like a lot of the criticism and concerns for her pant choice would be alleviated if she went with a more classic Audrey Hepburn silhouette of cigarette pants maybe even a size bigger than usual; it still appears stylish and enhances the figure without eliminating ALL doubt of what the royal biscuit looks like.

  29. Lisa says:

Oh, so what? God forbid someone be normal. She looks good!

  30. Cerys says:

These don’t look like pants/trousers. They are more like leggings which should really be worn with a longer style top. However Waity always has to go for the figure hugging look. They are nice though and a change from her usual leggings. A pair of flat shoes would have complemented the outfit much better than the wedges of doom.

  31. lemonbow says:

I can’t put my finger on it but she is getting prettier. I think she has finally eased up on the eyeliner. Maybe she isn’t as exhausted from having babies anymore. Or maybe some subtle work done on her face. Whatever it is, it is the best she has ever looked.

    • Nic919 says:

She had Botox recently because in the pictures where she makes exaggerated expressions with her eyebrows, you don’t see any forehead wrinkles… Which were there about a month a ago during the Ben Ainslie visit.

    • Readeihh says:

She is so overhyped. I find her very plain .

  32. Paisley says:

Very cute. She’s lucky she can pull the look off.

  33. Redgrl says:

There’s a picture of them from behind standing at the rum bar in one of the links. Those pants/jeggings/whatever are too tight – not appropriate for “work” imho. and it really shows how thin she is – too thin – she has no bum! And also she switched to some particularly hideous moccasin-type flats for part of the 2nd visit – she badly needs an intervention from the shoe fairy….

    • vava says:

The Sebago flats. They look pretty worn and tired, just like this pair of wedges. Both should be trashed.

      • Nic919 says:

Those flats are what you would wear to bum around the house or work in the garden. She spends thousands of outfits that all look the same but she can’t seem to purchase decent footwear. Especially when it has to be something less formal.

Even a fancy running shoe would be better than those flats.

  34. Kate says:

    Those pants are awesome.

  35. joannie says:

Love those pants, I’m going to get a pair. She looks very pretty and appropriate.

  36. Okay, so I’ll promise not to body shame anyone here…(although she is pretty thin, in that hyper-aware way that celebrities are), but can I at LEAST BOREDOM SHAME her and her husband? Why are we seeing so many posts about these two. They’re “stepping up their game.” We get it. But reading multiple articles about these two is like shopping for the same pair of leather, sensibly-heeled pumps every single day for the rest of your life.I’d say more here but I fear I may slip into a coma.

  37. Anare says:

Not a fan of those pants. Looks very mumsy. Ok if she is playing with kids in the park but not for an appearance like this. The shoes are hideous and don’t go with the outfit at all. A nice high waist tailored grey trousers long enough to hide those fugly shoes could have saved that look.
While we’re at it how about Wills? He looks sloppy. It’s like he was hanging out at home and the Mrs. told him to toss a jacket on and off they went.

  38. Sunshine Gold says:

I’m more shocked she’s made Gap pants look so flattering – their stuff runs huge and shapeless!

    • Redgrl says:

Guess it depends – I’ve worn gap jeans when I was a size 2 and still now when I’m a size 10 – and they are awesome. And I’m not (and wasn’t then) “huge and shapeless!”

      • Adele Dazeem says:

I don’t think she was saying people who shop at the Gap are huge and shapeless, I think she was trying to say that their sizes run large and that they aren’t for ladies with “curves,” (A term I hate btw because it’s been so misused) meaning, hip to waist ratio. I run into the same problem, their pants are “big” on me per se based on my usual size but fit weird because I have wider hips and a narrower waist.

  39. Oksi says:

absolutely awful. what she was thinking about? Horrible print. And she wear that jacket to show her butt? Her stylists as stupid as she is.

  40. Vizia says:

I have to say–if you’re ever in Cornwall, a visit to the Eden project is well worth the time. http://www.edenproject.com

  41. cindyp says:

Awful, the skinny pants are too short & tight to wear with wedges & blazer. Flats with a long sweater or tunic top that covered her butt may have looked ok or boot cut jeans with the blazer. She has the worst fashion sense; has a vision of what looks good on her that’s not based in reality. I cannot fathom how she though wearing skin tight pants to a public event was a good idea. She really needs a good stylist.

  42. Kaz says:

I think the pants are actually a bit tight for an official appearance. Break out Kate – try some different style shoes and pants and skirts. She could have worn some trendy culottes – they’re just made for skinny girls like her!

  43. Emilie says:

It looks like she’s wearing leggings. She needs to go a size up. And then buy different, more work-appropriate pants.

  44. Priscilla says:

I don’t think she’s anorexic. But I think navy ballet flats would have looked better than the wedges. She’s got a great figure and is about 5 ft 10 too…..

  45. Deedee says:

She looks like she borrowed Carole’s regular “going grocery shopping” outfit for a royal walkabout. By the way, this one “engagement” counts as 11 engagements in the register. Remember that when you see the year-end totals.

  46. Starlight says:

I guess Wills was giving her a right talking to over those palazzo pants when they were on the boat see Daily mail boat piccy. The journalist wrote Wills in deep conversation with Kate, it looked like he was unhappy about something! Git to be the palazzos

  47. Bc says:

What did they exactly accomplish on this visit? Outside of what she wore or he wore… That should be the question… don’t jump on me … Just asking a simple question… Anyone know at this point..?
