Heidi Klum and Seal hold “White Trash” themed renewal of vows

Heidi Klum and Seal renewed their wedding vows this weekend, as they do every year, but instead of heading to their villa in Costa Careyes, Mexico, where travel is restricted due to the H1N1 virus, they had a “White Trash” themed party at home in LA. At first I thought it might be an 80s-themed party, but then I saw photos of pregnant Heidi smoking a cigarette, which was hopefully a prop. She wore her hair in cornrows and had on an over the top white lace sparkling wedding dress and giant costume jewelry. Seal wore cut off shorts, a leather jacket with an American flag on the arm, and a mullet wig. Celebrity guests were seen in curlers, fanny packs, sports t-shirts and baseball caps. Decorations included hanging lights in the shape of flamingos:

They are usually one of Hollywood’s most stylish couples, but Heidi Klum and Seal really let down their guard to renew their wedding vows in Malibu yesterday.

The pair, who have been married for four years, were in high spirits as they celebrated the playful fancy dress occasion with guests including Matthew Perry and Debra Messing.

Their theme seemed to be ‘white trash’ – something that pregnant bride Heidi certainly lived up to with her braided hair, low cut jumpsuit and bejewelled accessories.

The barefoot 35-year-old was even spotted with a cigarette hanging from her heavily glossed lips.

For the sake of her fourth child let’s hope that this was as fake as her silver plastic nails.

One thing that was completely genuine, however, was the romance.

Heidi and Seal were inseparable, exchanging kisses and happy smiles as they gleefully celebrated, with the help of their three young children.

British singer Seal wore an American flag shirt and quiff wig for the service, which was watched by around 100 equally outlandishly dressed guests.

They listened to rock and roll and danced at the waterfront house, which belongs to a friend of the couple.

Earlier in the day Seal and Heidi posed for a photoshoot on the balcony of the house in Malibu, California.

I have mixed feelings about these type of parties. It’s not a very original idea, and it can be construed as insensitive for mega-rich celebrities to play “poor.” Ashlee Simpson and Pete Wentz had a “White Trash” themed party last year, in which then-pregnant Ashlee were Daisy Dukes and a bikini top, her belly hanging out. Heidi and Seal love to dress up and it sounds like they had a lot of fun on their special day. What do you think? Was it inappropriate, does it look like fun, or a little of both?

I don’t think there is anything original about having a white trash themed wedding and I also think the timing was bad considering this country’s unemployment numbers.
However, I also think it is Heidi and Seal’s right to spend their money in whatever way they wish.
By the way, if there are any women out there who were offended by all of this Heidi’s show is moving to Lifetime so you may want to keep that in mind and not tune in.

  2. Exiled says:

Hey… she stimulated the economy by paying for the party… (i.e. caterers, waiters, food service) It’s pretty appropriate that she’s preggers too (shotgun wedding)

  3. boomchakaboom says:

I think it’s hilarious and looks like fun. I live in a huge white trashy area, and nobody here would be offended – only those who have no real connections to white trash-ery would find offense to the party theme. Hell, we LOVE to dress up (down?) like that and have a good time.

  4. reesa says:

Hunny, white trash does NOT mean poor. A person can be poor and be classy as well as be well off and trashy. Those are also called bred-necks — well bred rednecks. I have lived in Mississippi and Louisiana and am currently in Arkanas – so I know what I’m talking about!

  5. jennifer aniston says:

wasn’t heidi pregnant by another man when she and seal got married, she was already trashy to begin with

  6. vale says:

No, she wasn’t trashy, Jennifer Aniston, HE was trashy. Best thing she could have done was get rid of that piece of scum Briatore and find herself a man who she has tons of fun with, is there for her and won’t run scared into bed with a 20-year old slut. Good for her.
    Ps that party looks fun

  7. happymom says:

I love them-and how sad is it that I’m just a bit disappointed that they did this? I just find it in bad taste to be mocking those type of people.

  8. wonderwomancool says:

really? we’re going to get all PC about white trash now? ridiculous.

    they had a themed party.
    everyone had fun.
    the end.

  9. Fran says:

Jennifer aniston she did get pregnant from a very rich guy who decided he didn’t want to marry her after he got her pregnant. I would say the rich guy that got her pregnant then ran out on Heidi is white trash but not her. She was blessed to meet Seal. I would say Seal and Heidi have more class than the super rich filthy bum that knock her up and wouldn’t assume his responsibility.
Funny Katie Homes is not white trash from getting pregnant from Tom Cruz. Funny you would say that about a fellow women when women are victimize by such incidents all the time.
I think Seal/Heidi are having a good time making their marraige work. I hope they last forever.

  10. geronimo says:

I love these two so however they want to celebrate renewing their vows is fine by me. It looks hilarious and they obviously all had a blast. And yes, it’s a fake fag, that was confirmed elsewhere. Just wanted to pop that in before the thread turns into a tirade on ‘evil smokers’.

  11. Bite me says:

Truth be told I can’t stand heidi

  12. lisa says:

Heidi gets on my last nerve with that damn chipper voice, but I admire her and Seal for being so in love and building a gorgeous family.

  13. georgiagrl says:

    Vale, Wonderworm and Fran
Thank you for setting the record straight so succinctly.
They are a fun couple who don’t take themselves so damn seriously.
    Right On!!

  14. PJ says:

Here’s the definition of white trash in the Merriam-Webster Dictionary:

“Usually disparaging. A member of an inferior or underprivileged white social group.”

So here are a bunch of mega-rich people having a party, pretending to be socially inferior and underprivileged. And nobody on this board finds that offensive? That’s scary!

Who cares about the underprivileged? Let them eat cake!

  15. Jason says:

To “happymom” – I’m proud to say that I grew up poor and in a totally “white-trash” environment and embrace my up-bringing. I find absolutely NOTHING offensive about this at all. I think it’s HILARIOUS! Kudos to them for having fun with renewing their wedding vows in a different way than most would do.

  16. PJ says:

Sure, it’s all for fun and maybe a lot of poor people wouldn’t feel offended, but political correctness is not the issue.

It’s not “classy” to make fun of people with lower social status. Especially for people who are rich, famous, talented and beautiful. They have it all; why make fun of people who don’t? They had the money to choose any party theme they wanted; too bad they made such a “poor” choice.

  17. Trillion says:

Sounds fun! Seal is definitely channeling James Brown in that shot. I don’t mind Heidi Klum, but since I’ve been glued to PR Canada, I realize how she pales in comparison to Iman as an MC.
(thanks to a recommendation from another commenter at CB, I’ve downloaded both seasons and am enthralled)

  18. barneslr says:

I don’t care how they spend their money, and if they are happy, I think that’s great. But, just my own personal opinion, this renewing of the vows every year is a little tired. We get it; they love each other. Yippy. I absolutely adore my own husband, but we haven’t had 20 wedding ceremonies. The first one seems to still be working just fine; no need to renew it. But, again, it’s their money.

  19. Kayleigh says:

Ew! Why is Axel Rose kissing Dog Chapman?!

  20. saintdevil says:

Maybe they didn’t even use the term “white trash” wedding themselves?

Looks like one of the “bad taste” parties I sometimes throw, where everyone dresses as hideous as possible.

  21. AlaskaJoey says:

Heh, she looks like Bo Derek!

And I hope their menu featured Velveeta quite heavily.

Other than that, I agree – it is weird that they renew their vows every year.

  22. skldfj says:

LOL this is great! they have a great sense of humor i like them.

  23. Jen says:

I wonder how a “ghetto” themed party would go over. Would it be as acceptable? Is there any difference?

  24. PJ says:

Why do they renew their vows every year? Apparently some people never tire of celebrating themselves.

My theory is: Celebs LOVE drama, and a wedding ceremony is a moment of drama. Celebs are treated like royalty with their every whim catered to, so they feel entitled. The usual rules don’t apply to them. So what the heck, why not have a ceremony every month? As Britney says, “Gimme more!”

  25. boomchakaboom says:

Oh, PJ. If you have to resort to Webster’s in an effort to “get” what the term white trash means, you should just forget it. You’ll never know. It has nothing to do with money or social class. It has EVERYTHING to do with class. Class is independent of money. If you equate poor people with trashy people, then you are the one who needs some sensitivity training.

Reesa: Like you, I’ve lived in La., Ms., and now Arkansas. You get it.

  26. Ggirl says:

reesa, love the term bred-necks. Hadn’t heard of it before. Seal and Heidi do seem very happy together and that is wonderful. I could go either way on the PC thing. Yes, low classy styles are easily recognized today because with all types of media out there, there are always self nominated experts who are all too ready to define “good taste” for us. As a person economically struggling myself, sometimes I feel my hackles begin to raise when the upper crust seems to take too many liberties and then they are the ones who sound like crashing bores. But as far as Heidi and Seal are concerned, love them and wouldn’t change them. Good for them!

  27. Listerino says:

I don’t think they were out to offend anyone, just to have a bit of fun on a special day in their lives. They’re obviously very happy together.

  28. C-DUB says:

    That’s awesome! LOL!!!

  29. Larissa says:

    ok…I kinda like these two!
and it´s great that they don´t take themselves too seriously…but c´mon, that was just plain TACKY!

  30. Miranda says:

It’s fun to dress up, but I echo Jen’s question about how a “ghetto” or “nigg*h” party would have gone over. Can you imagine the public outcry?

I’m glad the “white trash” posters here wouldn’t be offended, but I think it’s sad that the only group that still gets socially-sanctioned derision is impoverished, maginalized white people.

The word “trash” to describe a group of human beings is awful! I could go on and on…

And Ashlee with 2 e’s Simpson held a similar party? Are you kidding- she is white trash. Not much of a stretch there.

  31. Aras says:

Uhhh if I have to read another comment from the overly pompous PJ or anyone else you claims a “white-trash” wedding was tacky. Have you ever watch My Big Redneck Wedding on CMT. If you ever had you wouldn’t even be complaining. I’ve been labled white-trash because I’m from a small farming community in west Tenn, and two people being silly and dressing up like they’re from my area (and believe me most of the people where I live do dress like that, watch Black Snake Moan it was filmed in my hometown) isn’t offensive. In fact alot of people liked that these two brought themselves down to our level even if just for one day and for fun. So PJ and everyone else it wasn’t an isult; I found it more of an insult that you thought this wedding was an insult to lower income families. As if what we are and our idea of life is something to be ashamed of. You really shouldn’t comment about a life you aren’t a part of.

  32. anon says:

Not a fan of racially charged parties. N i knwo its not that serious, but i wouldnt want to make fun of ‘white trash’, cuz as a black person if i had white friends, or even black ignorant ones, making fun of ‘ghetto’ ppl, or ‘africans’ or just anyone they don’t understand thats something i wouldnt appreciate. My white friends had a white trash party, i didnt go, but if i had i wouldnt have partaken in any of the dressing up, making fun or marginalising.

  33. Jessica says:

    Paris Hilton is white trash…
    Britney Spears is white trash…
    Amy Winehouse is white trash…

It has absolutely nothing to do with money.

  34. wonderwomancool says:

    Well said, Aras.

  35. Grandus11 says:

I think PJ using the definition if any of you had really read it was just to define a point. A redneck wedding is just the a bunch of self proclaimed rednecks having a wedding. Pretty sure the bride would have chose a better location than the back of daddy’s tractor to hang the just married sign. Why do people always have think rednecks are white trash. Trash is refuse not persons.
As for Klum getting pregnant by second boyfriend, well she was messing around on first husband with rich second boyfriend who knocked her up.
Who does she have to blame ??
Above some folks said these three were
    white trash-
    Paris Hilton
    Britney Spears
    Amy Winehouse
I say you can add Heidi Klum and Sarah Silverman.

  36. N . Kasparia says:

I am white and I don’t consider myself as white trash (my cousins think so) for having been with a number of Partners who are canadian black men (very well equipped). I enjoyed the intimacy with those partners and am presently madly in love with an older Aussie man who treats me like a princess.I think that white women should experiment at least once being involved sexually with a black man; it is quite exciting for a while before settling down with someone you really love preferably of the same ethnic background.

  37. c3214 says:

I love the idea.. and they’re not “playing poor” they’re playing trashy. There’s a difference.
