Jennifer Aniston in Valentino at the ‘Storks’ premiere: super-cute or meh?

In Hollywood, I think the only bad part about taking part in an animated film is the fact that the premieres are always so early in the day. It makes it especially rough if the press/photo line is outdoors, because the lighting almost always sucks and no one wants to be the a—hole doing the entire red carpet in sunglasses. That’s what I was thinking when I went through these photos of Jennifer Aniston at the Westwood, California premiere of Storks: the lighting is terrible! The sun is too low in the sky.

It’s too bad because Jennifer’s dress is actually cute as hell. Her go-to look for years and years has just been to go with a solid-colored dress, usually black, and usually something that shows off her legs. But she changed it up for this premiere, wearing a really pretty little Valentino cocktail dress. The cut is flattering, it shows off her figure without looking “extra,” and it feels like we’re seeing her in something really special. My only complaint is that the top seems just a tad too tight, and her girls look a little bit squished. Other details: her sandals are by Gianvito Rossi and her bracelet is by Celine.

Justin Theroux didn’t attend the premiere, from what I can see. It’s possible he was there and just didn’t walk the carpet, although I’m pretty sure that he’s still filming The Leftovers in Australia. That’s what his Instagram seems to indicate too. While I’m sure Justin’s absence from Jennifer’s premiere means nothing in the grand scheme of things, of course the tabloids are still trying to make it sound like something. Radar just did a story last week about Jennifer getting really mad/upset about their near-constant separation.

PS… oooh, the dress has pockets!!!

I love the pattern and colors. The skirt is beautiful and it works well
On her. BUT the top is lacking. Almost like the designer gave up. And I find it unflattering on her. And she really needs to find another look for her hair.

    • minx says:

I was looking at the dress and trying to figure out what was bothering me about it…you’re exactly right. The top just makes it look the a sundress; it could have been so much more.

    • Liberty says:

Agree. Very cute dress, and a good look for her, but it would have been amazing had they worked on the design of the top portion of the dress a bit more.

The gently flared skirt works on her.

    • amilu says:

True. In the shot from the chest up, it looks like she’s wearing a swimsuit.

She looks cute and appropriately dressed for a family movie premiere. But the proportions seem a little off. The waist should be higher, the length shorter. And the bodice needs more definition and support.

    • North of Boston says:

Yeah, the top definitely has a “swimsuit top with a skirt thrown over” look to it, and is not particularly flattering on her.

  2. bluemarie says:

Dress is cute, not a fan of the shoes.. My nephew and I have a date for this movie, it looks pretty cute.

  3. LuckyZeGrand says:

Wow,she hasn’t looked this good in years!
The dress is fab,the heels are one of those rare ones that make me sad for being so tall and the hair is so close to my current shade that I selfishly covet it.
    You go Glen Coco!

  4. Shelly says:

Needs to cut three inches off hair. Hair is also landing on problematic bodice.

  5. Nancy says:

She looks healthy and pretty. Love the dress, but it is a little tight on top…..the shoes are everything. This is how you do it Kim Kardashian, classy not trashy. IMO only for those who disagree.

  6. Colette says:

I like the bottom part of the dress and hair color.
On a side note, I haven’t seen any tabloid pregnancy stories about her since she wrote that essay. Now they only write stories about her marriage.

  7. TrueStory says:

I don’t like JA…but gotta be real. ..she looks FAB

    • kibbles says:

Exactly. She’s aged so well. Just compare Aniston to other actresses in her age group (45-55) – Renee Zellweger, Meg Ryan, Courtney Cox – all of these other women have Botoxed and injected their faces into oblivion, and on top of that they’ve lost too much weight. Aniston has better genes, but she also knows when to quit that stuff before it gets out of hand, and she looks great. The only other IT girl from the 90s in this age group who looks like she’s aged (somewhat) naturally is Julia Roberts. Sandra Bullock still looks decent but you can tell her face is pretty frozen from Botox as well.

  8. tracking says:

Love the dress and shoes, gorgeous. The length is great, fresh and pretty without being too “young.” Too bad she went blonder again though, darker is better on her.

  9. Tate says:

I love a dress with pockets!!

  10. Meandyou says:

Love the pattern on the dress but I wish it had sleeves instead. I agree that the top doesn’t fit her well and it’s a little blah. Shoes are nothing special but go well with the dress. Hair looks too thin and boring.

But but, considering what she normally weara this is a major step up. So brownie points for trying Jen.

As to her marriage, I have no idea what’s the deal with them. I’ve always felt that they were a great match for each other and not because of any deep connection. He gives me major opportunist vibes.

    • Lucky Charm says:

A different neckline (sweetheart, maybe, or square) and cap sleeves would really complete it, I think.

  11. Shambles says:

Where was this amazing dress when she was wearing all that boring and / or 90s inspired garbage to actual, high-profile events? Not trying to hate on a cute kids movie, but why was this the moment that she actually decided to be cute?

    Also, BotoxFace

    • KC says:

SHAMBLES, I too was wondering about her face. It’s been since summer started that I frequented this site or followed celeb gossip and as soon as I saw her I thought, “her face. It looks….different. Her lips.”. Maybe it’s Botox, maybe it’s age, maybe it’s the lighting but after several months she looks….different.

  12. what's inside says:

She looks very nice. Dress washes out at the bottom though.

  13. OTHER RENEE says:

Love the dress and shoes. Hair looks stringy.

  14. Chinoiserie says:

Are those storks on her dress? Like the film? Or at least some similar white bird. Really fun idea if that is what she planned. Dress looks great anyway, I have a lot of similar dresses (not with such embroidery but similar style), they are fun and flattering.

  15. artnoosa says:

I’am in the minority here, I don’t like this dress , something is off about-it, like two chapters from two different stories.

you can have many patterns , colors, cuts in one piece as long as they together create the design concept. This one is like 2 Jennifer one is up and the other is down. The blue carpet does not help at all.

sorry pass for the dress but she herself looks lovely.

    • Snappyfish says:

I agree! It’s as if a top & bottom of different garments ran off together. Each on its own have merit, however, together it’s a miss. Valentino w/o Valentino has been hit or miss or just flat out hot mess of late

  16. Cupcake says:

Her skin is looking not so great.

  17. Chicken Pizza says:

For a minute there, I thought I was looking at a younger Olivia Newton-John.
Dress? I like the skirt but the top needs more substance and structure and less squish.

  18. Apple says:

All that tanning has finally caught up to her, her skin looks looks leathery now. She needs to get out of the sun and stick to lathering Aveeno lotion on her skin.

  19. Jayna says:

Actually, for someone in their late 40s being photographed out in unforgiving very bright sunlight, she looks good.

I watched Mother’s Day at home several weeks back. Her hair was a drab shade and looked stringy or unwashed because of the drabness, and she added nothing to the movie. Okay. It’s a bad movie anyway. But I usually like Jen in most of her rom-coms. Not here.

But Kate Hudson was like a beautiful ray of sunshine in it, I have to admit. She just glows.

  20. ohhh oh says:

    love that dress

  21. mini says:

She always looks meh to me. She has such a lousy, phoney personality .

  22. Josefina says:

She looks great. One of her best red carpet looks in a while.

That being said, it really upsets me that now studios are hiring big Hollywood stars for their animated movies. I can just tell they are not trained like that in voice acting and it brings the movies down. Voice acting is so under appreciated outside of Japan. It makes me sad.

    • minx says:

Thank you. I remember taking my son to see The Iron Giant in 1999; it was based on a story by the poet Ted Hughes. We both loved the movie, but the main female voice was so bland and nondescript…then I saw in the credits that It was Jennifer Aniston. Her voice is not her strong point at all.

    • Jwoolman says:

I agree on both counts – she looks great and it’s very annoying when an unskilled voice actor is hired. Regular live-action actors tend to being the whole production down, they don’t know how to use their voices like an instrument. There are definitely exceptions, such as on Phineas & Ferb – the one who plays the older sister and the main little girl are great and they are live-action actors originally. Ellen’s voice somehow fits with Dory, but the lack of training shows and it would definitely be much better if she was more skilled in the art of voice acting. It probably hinges a lot on the director whether they get a good performance or not out of such amateurs, as with kids.

I remember when Drew Barrymore decided to be the voice of the Olive in Olive the Other Reindeer – big mistake, I know it was her pet project but she really was so off. She didn’t know how to do an animated character and her voice was boring and inappropriate. The other voice actors were properly skilled, but she wasn’t and it made it so not rewatchable and barely watchable the first time. It wasn’t the world’s greatest to begin with, but her bland voice for the main character really killed it (in the bad sense).

  23. Kate says:

I think she looks great. It’s fun and fresh and she looks happy.

  24. Pmnichols says:

I don’t like the dress but her body looks great!!

  25. Rocio says:

She looks very pretty and not in a black black dress for a change.

  26. A Fan says:

Cute dress, but not particularly flattering on her. Not sure what’s wrong, but somehow it detracts rather than enhances.

    The hair is terrible.

Also, her face looks different…what’s up? Thicker eyebrows? Something else?

[*All in all, a ‘meh’ as usual.*]

  27. d says:

Love the dress fabric, but I agree, the top of it is just too bland like a swimsuit. I would have designed the top part to be a bit more forgiving, maybe v-neck and made the skirt a little less flared. And for the sweet love of God, Aniston, PLLEEEEEEEEEASSSSEEE CUT. YOUR. HAIR! OMG, it just drives me crazy. She would look a 1000 times better with a shorter, slightly wavy bob. This cut now is awful, just awful and with a dress like this, just wrecks the look. I will say that I totally envy her legs though; those are million-dollar. And I love the shoes.

  28. KiddVicious says:

I like this look. I know most don’t like the top but I’m guessing she was standing in hot LA sun, right? It looks like heavy/thick material, any type of sleeve would be too much.

I’m wondering if she got cold in the theater, though. Do they have their assistant inside with a sweater? I’m constantly freezing in movie theaters and airplanes. I’m that weird girl in a hoodie when it’s 90 degrees outside. LOL

    And I LOVE the shoes.

  29. JudyK says:

Not a fan at all but think this is the best I’ve ever seen her (except for the stringy hair).

  30. Tara says:

I guess I must have bad taste, I love her hair. I think it looks great. Personally I highly doubt any men would say they didn’t like her hair or that she should cut it. In my own experience men are more likely to stop and ask for directions than they are to say “you should cut your hair”.

  31. pk says:

Well she had a pretty nice run, but is starting to show her age. She doesn’t look bad, just looks her age.

  32. Carmen says:

A 47 year old woman has no business trying to look super-cute. Beautiful, yes. Elegant, yes. Attractive, yes. Super-cute? Pathetic.

If she’s so bothered by their constant separation why didn’t she go to Australia with him? It’s not as if she has anything else going on.

    • kibbles says:

I don’t see a problem. Aniston does not look like the average 47 year old woman. She has the body of a woman in her 20s and her face doesn’t look old either. I think she is the exception who can pull off this look at her age.

    • Jwoolman says:

She looks fine to me. She’s not going for a childish look. I associate “cute” with children of all species and can’t figure out the rules when people apply the word to adults. She may appear younger than her years, but that’s genetic. The women in my family are the same way, it’s actually annoying. People are so judgy about your natural face.

  33. Cute dress, why does she stand with her legs spred out?

  34. JenniferJustice says:

I’m not going to put it down. At least she’s not wearing another little black dress. Nice to see her venturing into some color and texture.

  35. molly says:

Didn’t know she had a film coming out. Thought she had given up acting to star in every commercial on tv?

  36. Riley says:

She looks adorable! Best I’ve seen her look in awhile.

  37. Tarsha says:

No. Not just meh, but it’s a mess! I love the skirt part of the dress, but the top part CLASHES painfully and jarringly with it. It is like wearing polkadot skirt with a pinstriped top. It makes no sense. It looks like someone found 2 separate pieces of unrelated odd bits of fabric, and sewed them together. It looks horrible. Also, standing with legs spread apart like that? What is with that? I also think the smoking and tanning has caught up with her, her skin looks terrible as does her stringy over-processed hair.
