What’s up with this creepy video on the Duke & Duchess of Cambridges’ Twitter?

wenn29619457

I missed this in the final days of the Cambridges’ Canadian tour. As many know, Kensington Palace runs the @KensingtonRoyal Twitter, and often it’s the task of Poor Jason (the Cambridges’ press secretary) or some poor lackey to post “exclusive” photos of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge while they are doing some event. I’ve always found the KP Twitter to be too cute by half – William and Kate often limit the press’s access to their events, if not outright banning press at certain events, events which the Twitter account still dutifully documents. The Twitter account is just one more way William tries to have “control” over everything having to do with everything. Anyway, the KP Twitter decided to make a video as a way of thanking Canada for their hospitality during the tour. And the video is… extremely creepy.

I covered the photos and videos from this garden party with George and Charlotte – they were having fun, acting like kids and being cute. Whoever did this video wanted to make George and Charlotte seem like they were Damien from The Omen. What’s with the slow-mo and creepy music? Why did Poor Jason let this one through?

In other Cambridge news, they actually are not going to take the rest of October off. Kate is scheduled to do her first-ever (!!!) solo overseas trip next week, where she’ll fly to the Netherlands for the day, on October 11th. She’s stopping in to see King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima, and she’ll do some events on mental health. Do you think she’ll even bother to learn any Dutch, even just some courtesy greetings? Will she even speak at all? She didn’t speak publicly – as in, no speeches or public remarks – during the entire Canadian tour.

And this was just announced on Monday – Will and Kate will be traveling to Manchester on October 14th for the day. They’re going to the National Football Museum. Cough.

That football museum thing……LOL. cough! Cough!

    • PHAKSI says:

😀 please people of Manchester, if you get the chance to chat to Will bring up Allardyce. I implore you!

    • Gilda says:

      Why cough cough?

      • LAK says:

This engagement seems to have been announced because William was publicly called out for not attending Football meetings last week. He is off to Manchester to publicly prove that he does attend football events.

    • rays kirt says:

Pretty girl but she literally ages by the minute. Like, since I’ve typed this, she is 10 years older. Does being a royal family member turn you into Dorian Gray? She will break a hip on her next trip wow

  2. Belle Epoch says:

OMG You aren’t kidding! Is there something wrong with the playback? That might explain the slo mo and Halloween music?

  3. fran says:

What the heck?? super creepy! The music and slow-mo combo is too much!

    • Payapa says:

THe video reminds me of those creepy super 8 films from the movie Sinister. What were they thinking lol.

  4. PHAKSI says:

Thanks to another proof reading fail from KP the tweet announcing the Manchester trip said they will Manchester.

    • LAK says:

Lack of proof reading is evident in all their communications.

I often wince at the obvious mistakes.

It’s a disgrace when you consider that everyone who works at the office is highly educated and better educated via the public school system.

It keeps happening which implies they don’t realise their mistakes, they don’t notice any mistakes or they don’t care that there are glaring mistakes.

And that’s before you get to WK.

      • Imqrious2 says:

The amount of mistakes that come from “official” desks is insane. When I was started teaching, my principal asked me to check EVERY apiece of paper coming out of the school office for typos and spelling/grammar errors (and boy, there were PLENTY). Since we had to run every letter home to parents through her, she saw mine were the only ones consistently done correctly and chose me (lucky me!) for this task.

I always thought two things (in this order): 1. I really should be getting paid for all this extra work, lol, and 2. I *really* needed to learn to say “No”.

      • Kimble says:

        “When I was started teaching …” 😉

      • Annetommy says:

I proof read everything obsessively (maybe not quite as obsessively for posts on celebitchy…). I will never forget a poor colleague some years ago whose report, due to be published, repeatedly used the word pubic instead of public. Pubic health. Pubic service. Pubic pressure (yep…). It was spotted at the last minute but thousands of copies had to be pulped. I actually do a document word search on pubic sometimes just to check it’s not slipped through…anyone can miss the odd one but a pattern is not acceptable from communication professionals.

  5. Onerous says:

Omg. Are we watching the final moments of their life? Does the A-bomb get dropped on the party? WTF!?!? I can’t imagine how this even came to be! That was disturbing.

    • Jenny2468 says:

Yes it’s like a tsunamivideo or something like that. The feeling it conveys is “in memorum” and “impending doom” totally inappropriate and very weird!!! Complete fail.

    • Beatrice says:

Maybe it’s foreshadowing the doom of the monarchy. The little boy who will never be king.

      • bcgirl says:

        brilliant.

      • Sea Dragon says:

George watched as bubbles burst before his eyes, Charlotte bowed to the black and white rabbit and in front of them both, the balloon flower was turned upside down, making it look like a sword. Dun, dun, dun, duuuuuun!

      • TyrantDestroyed says:

I though and I was expecting the same. Is an “in memoriam” for the extinguished monarchy model and the boy (Bill) that never wanted to be a king.

    • Sarah says:

Isn’t there another video in which George waves and waves? That they think this good shows how out of touch they ALL are.
And wow!!! The Netherlands!! For a whole day? And THIS is her first “overseas” trip?? I guarantee no speeches will be involved. I think she’s spectacularly incompetent and uncaring about it, and nothing’s going to change.

      • Retty says:

Sad to hear she’s coming here (NL) I really hope she doesn’t bother. She doesn’t need the pressure, poor sausage.
Also, that video is defo creepy, it looks like something that was played at a funeral

  6. Jenny2468 says:

Is this an aphex twin music video??? WTF. Just completely missed the mark in every way.

  7. Goats on the Roof says:

Video is creepy. Thanking a country for their hospitality and sharing clips of a children’s garden party should never be set to sounds from a horror film.

Kate on a solo trip? I see a pregnancy announcement and complaints of HG, ASAP.

  8. Johanna995 says:

HRH looks happiest when she’s with her children. I think it’s lovely.

  9. stephka says:

Horrible video. That garden “party” was a bit weird, too — why only around seven kids in total?

  10. Anare says:

It’s dreadful, literally. Watching it makes me feel like something bad is about to happen.

  11. Alix says:

I kept fiddling with the volume control, wondering where the music was! OMG, this plays out like an “In Memoriam” clip instead of a thank-you (!!!) to Canada. (Is Canada dying and no one’s told us?) Horrifically bad.

    • susanne says:

Ha! I did, too with the volume.

It triggered 9/11 stuff for me, on a more yick note. Disturbing and creepy.

This is like what Kate does with her dresses. Takes something potentially gorgeous and just mucks the whole thing up.

    • Nic919 says:

Maybe the monarchy is dying.. I can live with that.

    • Wurstbonbon says:

I had the same reaction re: volume level. The whole thing was really… something. Weird, to say the least.

    • wolfpup says:

The monarchy needs to die – it excuses all sorts of bad behavior for the wealthy -the royals are a corporation – Occupy!!! The world is changing, for centuries now, against corporations, privilege, and attending silliness. We are all tired of the rich, and their taxes, and ways to maintain their supposed superiority…

Elizabeth will never ask William to do anything, but look privileged – because that’s a King. Just ask Charles (and Diana) –

      Occupy!!!

      • notasugarhere says:

It is happening in some places. Yesterday, five political parties in Sweden banded together to call for a phasing out of the monarchy.

“Sweden should be an egalitarian country where success is based on the individual merits rather than on privileges and kinship. Our government does, however, keep the country’s highest public office, the Head of State, as inherited within a chosen family. The monarchy is incompatible with democracy, equality and civil rights.”

      • wolfpup says:

Is blue blood compatible with everyone else’s red? Science Rules on this, not $$$, IMO.

Perhaps we need only marry a blue blood, and red changes, which is QUITE AMAZING – we need science to study!

It seems that everyone drops to their knees for the privileged/and their monies. Perhaps it is the blueness of it.

      • Sarah says:

It really is the silliest concept, isn’t it? That some people are “blue-blooded” and have different, and better, blood than the rest of us. It is really a laughable idea.

  12. Patricia says:

Looks like the extended slow mo trailer of some awful horror film. And you’re just waiting for the creepy climatic ending. Yikes. Who okays something like that.

  13. Freespirited says:

Since someone mentioned The Omen, now all I can see is Kate’s resemblance to the unfortunate nanny.

    Creepy.

  14. Tourmaline says:

Definitely the video was strange and very “off”. Makes me question the judgment of not only the Cambridges but the whole crew they’ve got working for them.

We know Kate loves theme dressing, so I predict when she does her daylong Dutch visit she’ll be wearing a pair of wooden nude heels and carrying a miniature windmill with a tulip shaped clutch.

    • GingerCrunch says:

I can see it now! The tiny windmill twirling right at crotch level…

      • wolfpup says:

I’m so tired of seeing her crotch – now, it is her slip with her high heels, bending! I NEVER want to see the Queen’s underwear – why does Kate think it is normal to see her stuff? – for years now. Does William actually need public photographs of his “sexy” wife? She will never be Diana – Harry Is. And they (the corporation) will use Harry for bolstering the disturbing…and he will let them – powerless, as the second child.

Jason, simply get her underwear off the world stage.

    • Lisa says:

      LOL!!! Clunk Clunk Clunk!

    • Kaz says:

Haha….just visualizing the nude clogs and tulip and windmill accessories. I’m predicting (another) new coat. And maybe a tulip brooch?

  15. Spiderpig says:

Oh crap, I’m going to be in Manchester on the same day.

  16. Christine says:

It feels like a montage from the show Twin Peaks.

  17. Shambles says:

But when Charlotte rubs her face on that Guinea Pig tho

  18. Citresse says:

I think someone thought it was interesting to see the bubbles in slo-mo so then from there they decided to produce the entire video in slo-mo. That’s my guess.
The scene with Charlotte and the rabbit was the best part of the tour.

  19. LizLemonGotMarried says:

Does it bother anyone else that her sweater is sheer enough for the checked shirt to show through? No? Just me? Carry on then..

    Also, super creepy music…

    • graymatters says:

Kate titilated us with her flashes that aren’t flashes on this tour. The sweater is sheer so we see her… shirt! She let the cameras look up her skirt to see her… slip! Slips are underwear though, and yeah, the see-through sweater look is bad. I give both looks a D. No shirt and no slip would be a total fail.

    • Alix says:

Makes the sweater seem el cheapo.

  20. Betti says:

I think someone is trying to b edgy or artsy with that video and couldn’t pull it off. They should hire someone who has a clue about social media to run that account. The main BRF one is much better.

  21. lower-case deb says:

who is in charge of the video making? they seriously dropped the ball. KP made so maby good videos for Invictus, but this one, it’s like they look at the calendar and go: Kids love Halloween!

it’s like a trailer for a new season of AHS: Cousins From Across the Pond.

or since you mentioned the Omen, this might be the sequel “And Sister Makes Four”

    • LAK says:

Invictus is Harry’s baby. The people who work for Harry at KP are not inept. They do not allow these stupid mistakes.

WK have surrounded themselves with incompetents who are also yes men.

The crossover between the two teams affects Harry negatively when he has to work with WK because Harry and his team have to acquiesce to WK.

  22. Lama Bean says:

Music-super creepy. Almost reminds me of a predator stalking and covertly photographing kids.

You know what would have been a great appreciation video? A montage of all the people they met, all the things they learned, cultures they experienced. But no. Creepy kid stalking to ominous music is what Canada gets.

  23. Wren33 says:

Aaahhh! So hilariously wrong! I think with a normal, non-Doomsday musical choice it might have worked better.

  24. Alex says:

An “overseas” trip to the Netherlands? That’s a 40 minutes flight across the Channel.

    • Lucky Charm says:

They must have learned geography from the Duggar’s, who think Central America is overseas from Arkansas.

  25. Starlight says:

There is absolutely nothing creepy about this video apart from the fact that both children are not interacting with other children unless one of them is holding a bunny. Kate and William look like they are overseeing them not to focus on everything but a human child. If you look parents seem to be dressed up watching from a distance. – so you’ve got he slow moving desperately trying uplifting mystical music playing over a very bizarre children’s party

    • Desi says:

The lack of interaction with other children was the thing I found odd about the whole garden party. Maybe they did but did not include much in order to maintain privacy for the other children? In general, the Cambridges don’t seem particularly comfortable interacting with people outside of their circle. Compare this trip to when the Trudeaus came to the U.S. and it ended up being a huge love fest between the families. And Charles and Camilla might not be the most popular royal couple, but they always seem engaged during whatever royal commitment they’re attending. It’s going to be really interesting to see how they manage when they assume the Prince of Wales title and have to do this day in and day out.

      • LAK says:

Why do people assume WK will work any harder when they are POW? #whateverworkmeans?

The POW title is respected because Charles put in the work to make it so. Just like Anne could be doing absolutely nothing as a minor royal. William is under no obligation to work as hard as Charles or even HM despite the contract his family signed with the people of the UK and realms.

William has done nothing with the Cambridge title even where opportunities have been handed to him tailor made, so what makes anyone think he’ll do anything with POW.

I should also add that in all the documentaries about Charles and his work where William is invited to comment, he struggles to explain what his father does beyond noting that he works hard and has a sense of duty. And as we saw in Canada, despite frequently pulling the Diana card, he is equally poorly acquainted with her work.

      • William and Kate seem like “helicopter parents.” Kate had to be holding Charlotte most of the time rather than let her run and play. And George acted rather shy and staying close to William. That was a perfect opportunity to let the children run, play with other children and just, basically, be free to have fun.
Also, I was amazed the way Kate just stood by and permitted Charlotte to bounce on the poor therapy dog like it was a rubber ball. Who treats their dogs that way??? I’ve read that George has been allowed to be a brat and I’m wondering if Charlotte is heading down the same road.

      • Nic919 says:

Prior to Prince Charles, the POWs have been known to be lazy philandering dilletantes. (Duke of Windsor, Bertie- Victoria’s son) so William would be more of a return to form with Charles being the anomaly work wise.

William is 34. His character has been formed for years now. He will not develop a work ethic at this point unless there is an extreme crisis with his position and money will be taken from him. The Queen passing won’t be that crisis. It will be the UK people threatening to abolish the monarchy in a serious way. That is the only way he will change.

      • Kitty says:

@LAK, I agree. If they aren’t going to work now they won’t when they become POW. Honestly William didn’t even read his briefing notes. Honestly he does not want to be King and Kate doesn’t want to be a humanitarian. I hope Harry becomes King!

      • Desi says:

LAK, do you think the Cambridges will be able to get away with continuing their current ways once Charles is on the throne and the spotlight on them is even brighter? They’ve been able to sort of get away with it as some people give them a pass since they are “only” second in line and have a young family to raise. But once they move up they are going to have to get it together if for no other reason than public sentiment. How long is the public going to want to contribute tax money to people who blatantly don’t care about the job they have, but are happy to take all the perks it offers?

      • Kitty says:

@Desi, I think once The Queen passes there will be a lot of people wondering why there is still a monarchy and I bet there will be a lot of commonwealth countries wanting to leave and become a republic and Charles is not that popular. That’s why I think Harry and his own family will probably step up the plate because I think Harry is the jewel to the crown not William and Kate. They have no work ethic and lazy.

      • LAK says:

Desi: considering the excuses they give now, yes.

They are in the spotlight and come up with new feeble excuses every year which are accepted by the public.

William in particular has been baiting and switching since he was 21yrs old when he should have started royal duties or training for said duties.

Every new year or phase is supposed to be the one he starts working, but when pressed he comes up with an alternative thing he must do rather than royal duties.

Each excuse sounds plausible enough that the public accepts it. By the time he is on the throne he will have excused himself out of any duties whilst getting all the perks.

      • wolfpup says:

They don’t need to work – they just need to be “royal”. That is, above all the rest of us.

I sort of feel for William. It seems as though the flood-gates were opened for him when he married – thank you, Carole; apparently Charles deserves anger. Elizabeth comforts him with the idea that he will be KING! WhatEver – – –

      • LAK says:

        Wolfpup! How are you? Longtime!

      • vava says:

@wolfpup………….do you really feel for William?

I don’t. I think he has shown his true colors these last few years. He’s a selfish baby/manchild. He is using this helicopter job as an excuse. He has no charisma and he married a woman who has less soul than he does. Didn’t think that was possible but it was. Kate’s true self was exposed recently and it’s not anything to admire. I’m just glad those kids have their nanny, she no doubt is grounding them. For long though? How long? With parents like this, what will happen?

Harry on the other hand, wow – that guy has turned his public persona around and he is worthy of note, for sure.

    • HH says:

The lack of interaction is also what I found incredibly odd as well. The Cambridges (including the kids) didn’t interact with other parents or children.

I didn’t find the music and slow-mo to be “creepy” per se, but it was definitely overkill. When something is a special, it just is. You don’t need to add all the other fluff.

      • wolfpup says:

I believe that they just need good photo’s – and they will write “The Story of Their Monarchy”, without it’s swindling of taxpayers and and the world’s commoners. The more demanding, the more Elizabeth grants them because they are “royal”.

What does that really mean to the rest of the citizens of the world? Do we set a few aside, as though they were unassailable? Britain Does.

  26. GingerCrunch says:

I got ‘Omen’ vibes at the beginning of the tour, just didn’t want to say anything. Shivers.

  27. Sharon Lea says:

Someone on DM pointed out that oddly, only adults were popping the balloons. Why not let the kids do that?

Anyone else see Twitter and the Canadian press pack (was it print) about this specific event? They were super pissed they were not allowed in, so they posted pictures of the sidewalk, the railing etc. OMG hilarious.

  28. Donna says:

That creepy music gave me chills. The only thing saving that video for me was Terry David Mulligan on the ground with a puppet! (Canadians of a certain age as myself know TDM!)

  29. vava says:

I think the video is hysterically weird and my guess is ‘heads will roll’ over this! I wonder who will be fired.

  30. phaedra says:

Thanks for the best laugh of my day! That video is like a horror movie trailer! I kept waiting for the Cloverfield monster to attack. Disappointed.

  31. HK9 says:

I think this is just someone’s failed attempt at being artsy. Instead of the moody music, they could have have chosen something happier and used the footage at regular speed so it would look normal. It’s unfortunate because the kids are really cute.

  32. Your mom says:

What the fresh hell is that?

  33. Margo S. says:

What is the actual eff?! Why do they have such crap staff doing social media?! Is this just nepotism? Is it some royals teen son going through his “I hate my parents faze” deciding to do an artsy video? This is so embarrassing.

  34. Kaz says:

    OMG
Off to the tower with whoever put this together AND released it to the public.
Maybe it was a staffer’s parting gift to their royal bosses?…….Jason, was that you?

  35. KirstyLou says:

Good god. That was so absurd it made me laugh. What on earth were they thinking? This vid must have been screened by a large number of people before being released – did nobody think ‘hang on, that’ll make all
    Involved look unhinged’.

I’m english and the lazy Cambridges make me cringe, especially when they’re on their trips overseas. They are so out of kilter with normal life, far more so than any of the other royals.

  36. Sequinedheart says:

I felt like I was having an acid trip. Creepy garden party indeed!

  37. Dagny says:

The falling popped bubble spooge made me laugh really hard.

  38. Anguishedcorn says:

When having a garden party, slow motion bubbles are a must. #pippatips

  39. The Original Mia says:

Kaiser, Kate won’t be meeting Max. She’s got something planned that day. Kate will be lunching with Willem.

    Creepy video. Kids are cute.

    • notasugarhere says:

Yes, Maxima already had a trip planned to Argentina for two days to talk microfinance for the UN. More proof this roundtable is another last minute addition to the W&K calendar. Without Maxima there to outshine everyone in the room, KM will look slightly less inept next to W-A, who lacks his wife’s gravitas.

      From the official website
“From Tuesday 11 to Wednesday 12 October Her Majesty Queen Máxima of the Netherlands will visit Argentina in her role as the UN Secretary-General’s Special Advocate for Inclusive Finance for Development (UNSGSA). In the capital Buenos Aires she will speak about the government’s plans to develop a national strategy for inclusive finance. Better access to financial services can improve people’s economic development.”

Some of the people she’ll meet with include the local UN coordinator, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Minister of Treasury and Public Finances, and the Central Bank Governor.

Can anyone imagine Kate Middleton ever doing something like this?

  40. hogtowngooner says:

Agree with everyone – super creepy!

It makes me think that it’s a video shot by someone planning to kidnap them! 🙁

  41. ChocoChipDstryr says:

Did they think they were making an “In Memoriam” video?

  42. Tough Cookie says:

This is awesomely clueless. I feel like I’m watching the beginning of 48 Hours or Dateline. Or Criminal Minds. I’ve watched it 3 times and the music just gets creepier each time.

  43. Donna Martin says:

I’m wondering if this was a track from the native people they spoke with? Maybe they felt the slow motion fitted the sound. I didn’t really find it creepy.

  44. Sea Dragon says:

Oh look! The video they should have released! ABC’s Today Show published more than seven minutes of the event. Mummy AND Daddy interacted with George thoroughly (while toddler Charlotte preferred the safety of Mommy), we can see quite a few of the other 22 children present and George explored the environment independently with frequent check-ins. They were extremely well behaved and everything looks unquestioningly normal.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bVgLs4xrMOs

The vid the Cambridge’s released HAD to be vetted. There’s just no way a mistake of that magnitude would take place without some form of backtracking by now.

  45. TalkingAbout says:

Why creep? They were obviously focusing on the Royal Family children – which means a brighter future with tons of hope and prosperity. That’s a nice move.

    • wolfpup says:

Because *THEY* have a bright future – does Britain?

Occupy, although leaving the young disappointed with their efforts, did not disappoint – Bernie Saunders showed up as a leader of this movement, as well as Elizabeth Warren. May Goodness, Bless Us All, with the presidency of Hillary Clinton. She’s has worked – for our well-being for many years – not WillNot and KanNot, however much they are deemed cuteness, itself.

  46. mazzie says:

Maxima’s charisma is going to drown her.

  47. Reece says:

    WTAF!

    Dear Kensington Palace PR Dept,
That video makes it seem as if everyone (including Canada) in the video is dead. You are not film makers. Don’t ever do that again. You clearly do not know what you are doing.
Do not ever do that again! Hire a professional.

    Sincerely,
    Everyone watching that video

    • wolfpup says:

      P. S. We don’t want to see anyone’s underwear – that Kate is wearing some – none of my business (please!).

  48. Ravine says:

I like how the Government of Canada logo pops up at the end. By that point I had forgotten that the purpose of this thing was to commemorate the trip. There’s nothing particularly Canadian about this video — all it does is remind us of how pointless it was to bring the kids, since they just stayed at Government House the whole time. Come on, at least let George meet a Mountie or something…

  49. perplexed says:

The Cambridges are funny. OMG — that video. Made me fear for George and Charlotte’s lives.

  50. Zuzus Girl says:

Was the videographer on qualudes? Dude, caffeine is your friend.

  51. WyoGirl says:

That video reminds me of the Zapruder film.

  52. Minty says:

    OMG! They’ve weaponised Nemo!!
