Victoria Beckham designed a line for Target; will you pay or pass?

Victoria Beckham has designed a capsule collection for Target that will be available Spring 2017. If you know anything about me, you know that I swear a lot more when I think my mother isn’t reading, I love shopping at Target and that Vicky B is my fanciful best friend. In addition to being my FBF, I covet her clothing line but can’t afford it. So not writing that first sentence in ALL CAPS with indiscriminate exclamation points was a real exercise in self-control. The line will be priced from $6 – $70 with most things priced under $40 and will be available in size XS through 3XL. And – she’s designed a coordinating girls line, sized NB-XL to accompany it! Of course, with all Target designer collaborations, there is only a small window to grab a little piece of Vicky for yourself. Her line will be in stores and online from April 9 – 30, 2017. I’m sure, like their other capsule collections, this will sell out before the doors open, too. So why is Vicks doing this – other than to make my dreams come true, that is? Because she really does want to be accessible to everyone. *squee!*

Copying Victoria Beckham’s style is about to become easier—and more affordable.

“For a while now, I have been thinking how great it would be to work on clothes for a customer that either doesn’t want to pay or can’t pay designer prices,” the 42-year-old fashion designer said in an interview with Target.com. “I loved the idea of opening the brand up to a wider audience and being able to share my vision with a broader customer base. So when Target—a company based on accessibility and inclusiveness—proposed a collaboration which combined all of these things, it was an easy decision to make.”

“I have always said that the best way for me to learn about new areas is to work with an expert in that field,” she adds. “In order to do something well, you need to surround yourself with the right people, and the Target team members have been the right people for me. It has been such a pleasure working with their team. What they have provided me with is a really unique opportunity to connect with families across the U.S. I’m so excited for the months ahead, and for everyone to see a collection that I am really proud of.”

“From the outset of my brand, I have always designed clothes that I want to wear, and that’s exactly what I have done here,” says Victoria, who launched her namesake label in 2008. “But this time there are also clothes that my daughter [Harper Beckham] would love to wear, too!”

[From E! News]

Target had a very successful relationship with Isaac Mizrahi that lasted from 2002 – 2008. This gave birth to a high-end designer collaboration each season since 2006. Others who have gone before Vicks are: Rodarte, Jason Wu, Lilly Pulitzer, Marimekko, Missoni, Phillip Lim, Prabal Gurung, Jean Paul Gaultier and Zac Posen. And now Victoria Beckham… at Target – *sigh* I just can’t write that enough.

Victoria’s Target line will follow the look of her Victoria, Victoria Beckham line. I prefer her Ready-to-Wear line but there are some looks in her VVB line that I really like. This is the first time she’s designed children’s clothes but says she’s wanted to get into that area for a while. This is a great way to do it, see what sells and what doesn’t before you make a $500 velvet toddler jumper for the horsey set. Gah, I can’t wait to tell my Female Progeny she and I get to wear matching outfits from Aunty Vicky! Now, if you will excuse me, I have to give CB my time-off request for the month of April and practice my ‘That’s MY Mandarin-Collared, Silk Tuxedo Blouse, You Rancid Witch!’ karate chop.

I will definitely be interested. No one can deny she has sophisticated style. I like her color palette too of greys, I can’t get enough grey in my life!

I’ve learned my lesson about the Target lines.

Step 1- Everybody gets overly excited about whoever it is that’s doing the line for Target.
Step 2 – Oh my god, three more days! I’m so excited! How long do you think the line will be?!
Step 3 – Show up at an ungodly hour and judge other people that are standing in line with you and your BFF.
Step 4 – The door is opening! Quick, grab a cart! I don’t care that you just ran over a little girl’s leg!!
Step 5 – Grab! Keep moving! I’m sure we know somebody who can wear that size!
Step 6 – Mission accomplished. No, we have no idea what we got, but it’s selling for three prices on eBay!
Step 7 – Huh. All these dresses fit strangely. And the fabric is kind of thin. And they really don’t look like the designer’s styles in the magazines.

It took me awhile, but I have finally learned. Not worth it at all.

Amen sister. The capsule collections are ungodly low quality 95% of the time, well beneath the quality of Target. I was super pumped about Rodarte, only to find hideous poorly constructed garbage made out of polyester lace and cheap fabric. It looked like something I would have purchased at Rave if my standards had been that low as an eleven year old. Lesson learned.

Thank you for writing that! I always feel bad for the bamboozled! Target has gotten so many over the years….no more! =]

    • sunny says:

That sounds like one of the circles of hell. I’ve never stood in line to buy anything in my life (other than the typical lines at the grocery store but even then I’ll just walk out sometime if it takes too long). I just don’t have any patience at all and I hate to pay store prices for clothes anyways as they all end up with baby/child snot or mess, farm mess or cooking mess on them. Thrift stores/yard sales forever! But hey I guess y’all are helping the economy so hats off to ya!

The Prabal Gurung dress I bought from his Target collection is amazing and high quality. It looks like a high-end piece. I wore it to a wedding, and there was a woman there wearing a cute sundress. I complimented her on it, and she said “oh it’s from Target!”
    I excitedly replied “me too!!”

She side-eyed me like I was f-ing with her and walked away.

I really did get it at Target!!!

I can’t remember who it was who directed me to net-a-porter for Victoria’s Estée Lauder makeup line but THANK YOU!!! I love the eye makeup colors

I think me? I’m so jealous! I just can’t pull the trigger and by the time I will have worked up the nerve, it will be gone. Is it beautiful? Wasn’t the packaging bananas?

  5. Cool Character says:

When can I order the clothes?

    • Hecate says:

It goes online (Target.com) and in stores the same day, 9 April. A few, select pieces will also be online for global shoppers on VictoriaBeckham.com (I assume on the same day?)

      • Alix says:

It’ll all be sold out within five minutes and the site will crash. Buying won’t really be an option.

      • Hecate says:

I know from experience that what you are saying is true, @Alix. However, since it’s Friday, I think I’ll just stick my fingers in my ears and go LALALALALALALALALALALALA

  6. kimbers says:

Hahahahahahahahaha like anyone actually buys clothes at target!!!!!!!!! Who shops there anymore? I mean if you want your shoes to smell like car tires and pay crazy prices for god awful embarrassing clothes….let’s just stop at old navy next HAHAHAHAHAHA…i mean who pays those prices for such crappy clothes…..just horrifying!!! Dont get me started on the cult h&m has brainwashed…even worse than Old navy fools

    • anon33 says:

I buy clothes at Target, honey, and they’ve never smelled like tires. Further, I’m not clear on how a cotton cardigan and jeans can be “embarrassing.” But please, be judgmental some more, because, you know, EVERYONE can afford the clothes YOU deem “non-embarrassing.”

      • Lorelai says:

I’d also like to know where you’re from, if your Target carries such hideous, vile-smelling clothing! I’ve bought clothing for myself, my husband, my mom and my kids over the years and never had any problems.

      • Arwen says:

I’ve bought a few pieces at Target and stores like them and the clothes have always been comfortable, stylish and budget friendly. I’ve even gotten a lot of compliments on and made friends due to my *gasp* Target wardobe. If it’s a quality concern, just check the fabrics and stitching before you leave the store. With experience you can even find quality pieces at Walmart. Then just take care of them. Common sense. The only apparel I have a rough time with is the shoes sometimes.

Sure I’d love to shop at Nordstrom and Macys etc but I also like having the money to keep a good roof over my head, pay the bills, being able to feed and care for my bulldog and being able to attend fun events with my friends-while wearing my Target clothes.

    • MellyMel says:

🤔 Where are you from & what is your Target like & why does it smell like tires??? Cause I along with many ppl I know shop at Target for clothes (& the other stores you mentioned). Also seeing how quickly these capsule collections sell out, you must not know anyone who shops. Venture out of your cave every once & while hun!

    • Betsy says:

I guess I don’t have that strong an opinion on anything. Except child abuse and abortion.

    • FuefinaWG says:

Kimbers: You sound like the a$$hole I was at age 30.
I’m a die-hard Chanel freak and buy at least one pair of shoes and a piece of jewelry from the collection, each year. (I haven’t dropped the dough, yet, for a jacket, though.)
I wear my Chanel shoes and jewelry with stuff that I pay discount for, and frankly, I don’t think Karl L. gives a crap.
Clothing doesn’t need to be expensive when you know how to pick a fabric, have a good tailor, and know something about style.

    • sunny says:

What about thrift stores and yard sales? That’s where I buy my clothes. Lol Target is too fancy and expensive for me but I have plenty of money to spend on things that actually matter instead of overpriced crap that will be “out of style” or fall apart after one wash like all store clothing does. It never seems to matter where it comes from either, it probably comes from the same sweat shop and they just slap different labels on it to rook the gullible proles. It’s such a waste of money it makes me sick but it’s not my money so I just shake my head and go on. A fool and their money are soon parted you know!

  7. BendyWindy says:

The Marimekko stuff sold slowly in my are, so I don’t anticipate having to camp out. But I’m excited to see the clothes.

    • notsoanonymous says:

I think Marimekko bombed everywhere to tell you the truth. I typically love their patterns (I’ve paid full price for their stuff through Crate & Barrel) but I didn’t like a single thing that was in their Target line. Other than that and William Rast (which everything was hideous and fit like garbage) I’ve never seen these designer lines hit the clearance section.

I have a couple things from the Jason Wu capsule (which were tough to find/get), one gorgeous LBD that was from the Isaac Mizrahi line, and I’m hoping to get something from this one in a set to match my kiddo!

  8. FuefinaWG says:

I spent most of my day looking for something similar to the linen pants and striped tunic blouse in the 3rd photo. It’s part of her “SS17 Collection, 2016.” I found some pants at Amazon, believe it or not, that I actually like better than VB’s, for $123. Now I just need to find a shirt and black belt. Hmmmm …

  9. Lorelai says:

I am super excited too, Hecate. I just hope it doesn’t devolve into an epic sh!tshow like the Lilly Pulitzer one did 😒 Those items were up on eBay almost immediately for ten times the price. Infuriating!

  10. Alldamnday says:

They are hit or miss, but I have a Peter Pilotto romper I can’t wait to get back into, post-partum!
