Mayim Bialik thought NSFW meant ‘North South freakin West’

Mayim Bialik, 40, has a vlog on YouTube which we’ve talked about before, when she was discussing her very close coparenting relationship with her ex husband, whom she divorced in 2012, and how they still spend holidays together. Whatever is going on between Mayim and her ex, she seems to be ready to branch out. In a new episode of her YouTube show, above, Mayim answers questions about current dating terminology and practices. In the description to the video she writes that she hasn’t dated in 20 years and it does show. During the question and answer video she’s woefully uninformed about words like “ghosting”:

We’re going to talk about dating in the 21st century
Something I’ve never done. I feel like I don’t know much about dating in general much less in the 21st century.

When someone says “Hey let’s Netflix and chill” what does that mean?
Come over and let’s have sex. [She got that right]

What does ghosting mean?
Spying on them, on the Internet?

She also didn’t know which direction you swipe when you like someone on an app and she didn’t know that this was a heart: <3 There was one emoji she didn't know which I also didn't know! The green heart emoji apparently means "friendship." None of my friends have used this from what I can remember so I had no idea. Some of these answers seemed like a put-on to me. Who doesn't know what NSFW means? I swear I've seen that on People Magazine's site. Maybe she doesn't spend much time online other than making these videos though. This does seem like Mayim is letting us know she wants to wade back into the dating pool but isn't sure of her skills yet. As a woman around her age with similar issues, I can relate. Maybe the best option for her is not to use the Internet to date, everything has definitely changed for the worse in that department in my opinion (see Aziz Ansari's Modern Romance) and to date someone from work – someone single. That’s lousy advice though because those situations can end up being uncomfortable for everyone in the long run. Plus who would she date from her show – someone on the Big Bang Theory production crew?

Mayim is a very intelligent woman and I thoroughly enjoy her as Amy Farrah Fowler on Big Bang.
She is such a funny character!

Not intelligent enough to disbelieve anti-vaccine nonsense.

I’m watching the show exclusively because of her awesome Amy character. Maybe because I too am a makeup free weirdo who plays the harp. Only much less intelligent.

I started watching Blossom again and I love her!

Honestly, I didn’t know what the initials exactly stood for but knew it meant it wasn’t for viewing pleasure. And you swipe a certain way when you like someone on an app? Guess I don’t use those apps because I didn’t know that one. I’m older (63) and really don’t like my smart phone and would rather have a simpler phone that has a keyboard on it (had a slide out one on a previous phone). Did know the heart emoji.

Surely she could afford a matchmaker to set her up with a guy if she’s looking to settle down again?

  5. detritus says:

    Her hair is gorgeous.

And yeah, being a devout Jewish lady, who believes in conservative dress, and attachment parenting, it might be a bit of time before she finds her match. I feel like online makes it so much easier though, you can straight up say – I want X,Y and Z.

Granted I’ve never internet dated, sooooooo it might just be my imagination.

    hey she’s not ugly anymore
