Sarah Jessica Parker is worried about the safety of her surrogate

Matthew Broderick and Sarah Jessica Parker
Star Magazine ran a two page story in this week’s edition all about the 26 year-old woman who is carrying Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick’s twins. They included a photo of the surrogate, used her full name, and listed the name of the small town in Ohio where she lives. Star had quotes from the woman’s ex husband, who has custody of their four year old son and claimed that she’s a deadbeat mom who has missed child support payments. They also gave personal medical details like the fact that she had Guillian-Barre disorder in the past, a neurological disorder that left her temporarily paralyzed, and raided her MySpace for more information, including the fact that she’s into dressing punk.

Sarah Jessica Parker spoke to Access Hollywood about the fact that she’s expected twins via surrogate, and said that she’s very worried about the safety of her unborn babies and the woman who is carrying them. She said there are people who really don’t care whether her babies and their surrogate are healthy, and she was undoubtedly referring to Star’s piece:

Sarah Jessica Parker says the surrogate mom carrying the actress’s twins is a strong woman who made “an incredibly generous and gracious choice.”

But Parker now worries that this strength is being put to too much of a test from the media attention following the announcement the Sex and the City star and husband Matthew Broderick are expecting twin girls.

“On a daily basis, on an hourly basis, I am greatly concerned for her health and safety and the safe delivery of our children,” Parker, 44, tells Access Hollywood in an interview airing Tuesday.

Parker alleges that the surrogate, along with her friends and family, have been subjected to threats and harassment by the tabloid media. “Obviously there are those that don’t care about her, or her health, or safety, or my children’s health and safety, and that they should go to term and not go into an early labor and, god forbid, suffer all the things that can happen – that is a real possibly,” she says.

All this comes at what should be one of the happiest times in the lives of the couple, who turned to a surrogate out of necessity. “We have been trying to expand our family for a number of years and we actually have explored a variety of ways of doing so,” Parker says. “It would have been odd to have made this choice if I was able to have had successful pregnancies since my son’s birth.”

[From People]

Star really crossed a line by publishing the full name of Parker’s surrogate along with the town where she lives. They seem to have some kind of personal vendetta against Parker. According to RadarOnline, Star was about to break the then-“exclusive” news on their cover three weeks ago that Parker and Broderick were having twins through a surrogate when Parker decided to scoop them and make the announcement herself. It’s reckless for Star to then turn around and print the surrogate’s name, location and personal information. They could have had the same story about the surrogate with just her first name and maybe the county. No one needs to know the woman’s full name and exact location in a gossip piece. That was some kind of payback from Star. Unfortunately it’s Parker’s twins and the woman who are now at risk.

The good news is that the surrogate, whose name I won’t use here, has a very common first and last name. She’s also not listed in the phone book and finding her isn’t that simple even using those “People Search” finders that search public records. It’s also likely that Parker and Broderick have made arrangements for her safety now that her name has been released.

I’m surprised she was green lighted for surrogacy. Guillian-Barre can be very serious; my mother died from complications of Guillian-Barre.

  2. Pufft says:

Star proves again that they don’t understand the term ‘media ethics’.

  3. Ophelia says:

Keeping ‘Ferris Bueller Matthew Broderick’ in mind, when you look at the header picture, it’s as if she literally sucked the life out of him. And like, fed him to her fake tan, ill-fitting dress, and impossibly mismatched shoes. All he got out of this bizarre marriage were those age inappropriate sideburns.

  4. dirtyoldman says:

^^^ I completely agree. He looks like a zombie and she looks like a ventriloquist holding him up.

  5. lilly says:

MB looks 25 years older then he did a year ago…wth.

  6. Missy says:

Ophelia, dirtyoldman, and lilly: well said! very sad and so painfully obvious.

  7. K.L. says:

I just so happen to live in the same small town as this woman, which we found out through the local news outlet. I don’t know her, and I don’t know her lifestyle, but as someone who is 36 weeks pregnant with her own child, I wish her all the best. I haven’t read the Star article, but I’m sure this woman is being classified as Ohio white trash, which isn’t fair to her-or to others who live in this town who would invariably be lumped into the same category. So all I can say to Star magazine is back off, and stay the hell out of our town.

  8. Cinderella says:

This is all so very odd.

  9. SW says:

Cinderella, it really is odd. I would think with the resources that SJP and her side-kick have they would have set this surrogate up closer to them. At least to be able to keep an eye on her and the progress of the baby. I surely would if I were in their shoes.

  10. SolitaryAngel says:

The more I see of recent MB pics, the worse I feel for him. He always used to look so happy; had that little twinkle in his eyes all the time. Now he looks absolutely dead inside. I am so sad for him. 🙁

  11. Feebee says:

Another case of the laws not keeping up with the times. Please spare me the Constitutional blah blah blah. I thought freedom of the press was supposed to be aligned with the public’s right to know not a blatant invasion of privacy. Then again I don’t know why SJP didn’t work harder to keep it under wraps and keep her own mouth shut.

  12. Wow says:

Tabloids suck, but so does this fake couple. If they cared so much about the surogate’s privacy then they should have kept their traps shut about them even having a surogate. Being that she (Sarah) isn’t physically pregnant, no one would have known about this without them making a statement for People or Us magazines.

NOW they’re concerned. Suuuuure. Anything for publicity, I guess.

  13. Tess says:

    Oh Dear!!!
Celebs: your problems are simply epic.

Memo to personal assistant. I want to have my cake and to eat it, too. Make it happen. SJP

And the whining is so attractive, too.

  14. Darya says:

SJP should have kept this secret. It didn’t seem like anyone knew about the surrogacy pregnancy until she flapped her gums to the public about it. Even if it had leaked eventually, she still had some time for it to be kept under wraps. Now the surrogate pays the price.

  15. KDRockstar says:

Band-aid babies *always* work for broken marriages. Sheesh.

  16. Iggles says:

Did anyone actually read what was posted?

“Star was about to break the then-”exclusive” news on their cover three weeks ago that Parker and Broderick were having twins through a surrogate when Parker decided to scoop them and make the announcement herself.”

THAT is why she made the announcement. Parker is not at fault for tabloids trying to expose her family!

  17. Allie says:

What the heck is going on with Matthew? he looks like he’s channeling his character from that stupid 1900’s bowel movement movie he did. Those side burns have to go! He looks SO unhappy.

  18. j. ferber says:

Ophelia and Dirtyoldman, You make a good case, but it could be that Matthew was born with the zombie gene, making him predisposed to having the life sucked out of him by her tan. There must be a medical term for that.

  19. kiki says:

I tell you Matthew Never Looks HAPPY with her,it like a job he has to do and he does it with a grudge. and his job is to be an a c t o r. anyway I seen the wombfor rent and it looks like SJP went on the cheap with her, woman looks poor and does her job for the $$$ with all her $$$$ she could have gotton a BMW instead of a KIA

  20. Ggirl says:

Methinks between Cynthia’s engagement and SJP’s “concerns” for the surrogate’s safety, the SATC actresses are keeping their names relevant in the headlines before they start filming the second movie. Not that twins and engagements aren’t great, but I guess the ladies don’t want to be forgotten about. And yes, Matty looks like a Stepford husband, emotionless. I hope he still doesn’t have those gosh awful sideburns.

  21. Mary Stevens says:

Matthew is currently starring on Broadway in a play about a 19th century character, called The Philanthropist. That is the reason for his unattractive sideburns, which I’m sure will go as soon as the play closes.

  22. Ggirl says:

Thanks Mary. Guess I should have already known about that. thanks goodness it isn’t a for real trend for him.

  23. Taradash says:

he looks that way because he is currently in a play on broadway.

  24. Larissa says:

oh people! even MB gets old and tacky, if he looks unhappy that´s his DAMN problem! Stop blaming SJP as if you all knew her and their relationship oh so well! That´s so 7th grade!

  25. anastasiabeaverhausen says:

    Wow, they look REALLY happy.

    (No.)

If they’re so concerned about the surrogate, then have her come live with them in NY until she pops those paid-for babies out for them.

  26. loldongs says:

Hey now, is that Matthew Broderick, or Jimmy Joe-Jack Bobby Ray?

  27. Annabelle says:

Larissa I totally agree. His unhappiness is not necessarily her fault. I mean, he could always divorce her but he doesn’t.

  28. Magsy says:

He’s gotta be one of the creepiest male actors right now. He doesn’t look like he’s in good health…looks way older than he is. The hair, the outfit, ugh.

  29. lilme says:

Different states have different laws on surrogacy. New York state doesn’t allow financial compensation for surrogacy… therefore the Brodericks needed to find a surrogate living in another state.

  30. SixxKitty says:

He is beginning to look like a dead eyed alco-zombie! WTF? No insult intended. Just, damn.
