Brad Pitt, ‘happiest man ever’, loses acting prize to ‘Basterds’ costar

The Cannes Film Festival closed out Sunday night with their awards ceremony, but we’re still getting drips and drabs of Brangelina news from the festival – including this alleged interview with Brad given to the Mirror. Brad supposedly said this stuff at an after-party hours after the premiere of Inglourious Basterds, but I’m not so sure. It sort of sounds like him, but I’m still hesitant:

Brad admits he and Angelina are more in love now than ever before.

Speaking at an after-party in Cannes, Pitt said, “I am in love and I have the most beautiful family – what else can a guy want? I am the happiest man ever.”

Pitt revealed they are so happy, they will expand their brood of babies!

“My daughter from Africa is beautiful. We’re so lucky to have her and to have children from around the world. They’re all fantastic and we would love another. Who knows, maybe we’ll have one in London, I’d like that.”

[From The Mirror UK]

Predictably, there are already those who think there’s something tacky about the way Brad says, “My daughter from Africa is beautiful.” But I kind of think you have to look for it, like you just want to get mad at him for something. My guess is, of course he thinks all of his daughters are beautiful. God knows what context it was in or if he even said it. And if he did say it, and context doesn’t provide any clues, than I can only guess that Zahara has already got her daddy doing her bidding in the press, like any empress would.

Back to the last of the Cannes reporting, the awards were handed out Sunday night, and Inglourious Basterds won big! Well, the film won the Best Actor prize, but not for lead actor Brad Pitt. Christopher Waltz won – he’s the Austrian actor who got the best reviews out of everybody in Basterds, many critics even claiming that he “stole” the film. Here’s a list of the top prizes, courtesy of The Daily Mail:

Palme d’Or – The White Ribbon, Michael Haneke director
Grand Prix – A Prophet, Jacques Audiard director
Best director – Brillante Mendoza for Kinatay
Special Jury Prize – Alain Renais, for Wild Grass
Best screenplay – Feng Mei for Spring Fever
Camera d’Or for best first feature – Samson and Delilah
Camera d’Or special mention – Ajami
Prix du Jury – Fish Tank , Andrea Arnold director and Thirst directed by Park Chan-Wook
Best actress – Charlotte Gainsbourg, Antichrist
Best actor – Christoph Waltz, Inglourious Basterds
Best short film- Arena, director Joao Salaviza

The film that Charlotte Gainsbourg won for, Antichrist, got booed at Cannes and created a lot of controversy. Something about genital mutilation, which is really the kind of subject I hate seeing dealt with in a fictional way. Some things are so horrible, they should only be dealt with in cold, impersonal, sterile documentaries. The Jury Prize went to the British film Fish Tank, which deals with statutory rape, teen pregnancy and other difficult topics. Jane Campion’s Bright Star, the film starring Abbie Cornish, didn’t win anything, and it was probably the best-reviewed film at the festival. I guess the judges didn’t feel like giving a period romance/tearjerker a prize when they could reward the most depressing-sounding films ever.

Who says he’s talking about Zahara? Shiloh was also born in Africa..

Anyway, I actually think he loves all his kids the same, whether adopted or otherwise..

  2. Ursula says:

Yeah yeah yeah, wasn’t he the happiest man ever and so in love with Gwen, Jen etc? We will see, we will see. Years from now, one of them will be saying how they still love the other but things could not work out. And who will blame them? The betting houses closed the bets on if they will split and you can now only bet on when they will split.Once again, who can blame them?

I am glad we did not have poop and vomit stories all over the interviews. Why, we did not even have ‘amazing father/super woman’ gushfests this time around.

I guess some poor African girl will be joining their glorified orphanage pretty soon and Brad’s drinking will get heavier and heavier.

  3. Bite me says:

Glorified orphans ursula you are so hateful

  4. someone says:

I’ve never thought Brad was a great actor, this proves it..He got parts because of his looks, which are going to hell…

  5. BluePlanet says:

Pitt is more ‘celebrity’, than ‘great actor’. Sometimes he is a little convincing, but I cannot for the life of me understand why anyone thinks he is a good actor. I think he gets nominated as some contractual thing to increase publicity, but will never win anything.

  6. PJ says:

Hello magazine has a story saying that studio bosses want director Quentin Tarantino to re-cut and restructure ‘Basterds’.

“He’s probably going to resist but I think he knows, deep down, that he can’t release it as is,” a studio source tells the Daily Mail.

  7. jodie says:

So because he did not win the award that makes him a bad actor.. OK..
dumb comment. Best part Brad does not care about being the lead in a film. He seems to enjoy the smaller roles. That is not ego. I’m sure he and the rest of the cast are quite happy for Waltz’s win. That happens in a cast that is proud of all of it performers

No one said he as a great actor, but he is a good actor. And I enjoy his films so do millions of other. Funny if he is such a terrible actor why are some of you still watching his films. And if you say you are not watching them, then you would know nothing about the quality. Brad is doing interesting and diverse roles. It is so easy to say he is getting nominated for puplicity. Cheap shot. But the fans don’t care.. The haters should stop seeing the film then you can shut up becuase you would have nothing to say..But my guess if you would still comment because it is more important to tell the world how much you dislike him..

  8. PJ says:

What can a celeb say in one of these interviews: “My life is miserable, I hate my partner, the kids drive me crazy?”

Everyone in Hollywood claims to be blissfully happy — until they file the divorce papers, get arrested, attempt suicide, have affairs, land in rehab, etc.

  9. BluePlanet says:

I’ve seen many movies with Pitt in them, but that doesn’t make them “Brad Pitt” movies. I’ve seen them for the other performances or the movie itself.
BP is a big money celebrity, and throwing his name in for a nomination would definitely up the publicity for a movie. Didn’t say it was true, but it makes sense.

  10. Naomi says:

Why doesn’t he say OUR daughter? And why does he only bring up His daughter from Africa, how about my daughter from North America or My son from….. wierd wierd wierd!
He also does not say who he is in love with, rumers are he has another african bay on the way, via a model he has been snoggin. hmmmmmmmm

  11. pat says:

    how many jealous today ?

  12. duchess says:

oh please Jodie – doesnt your dictionary have another word than hater? there is nothing hateful to the comments except being frugal who to spend your money on. he’s not exactly on my do-list but i really dont hate him.

and ok, he really doesnt excell in his movies and his movies doesnt exactly tickle my doodah hairs either! so its just again that he’s an epitome of nothing great!!!

  13. Rosanna says:

Good thing I’m not Angelina or Brad. If I had all these hating people spitting this venom I couldn’t resist hating back.

  14. someone says:

I used to see his movies because of the other GREAT actors in them, Brad brought the sex appeal, but I don’t see any of his movies anymore, because IMO, he is NOT a great actor,he doesn’t have sex appeal since Jolie sucked the hot out of him and I don’t hate him, I just don’t care for his style..or morals.

  15. Codzilla says:

Jodie sounds just like that debra nut job who would ramble on about the “jellis h8trs” in the most painfully inarticulate rants I’ve ever read. Is it really that inconceivable to some of you that not everyone worships this couple? Seriously, why do you care so much?

  16. Wow says:

It’s funny how they always have to resort back to how “happy” they are or “in love” they are or how great their children are …. when they lose an award.

We get it already. Just BE.

  17. michellle says:

    The film “won big!” ?
How do you figure Kaiser? Sounds more like it was Waltz who did so well. Usually a big win means cleaning up in at least more than one catagory.

As for that beautiful child Zahara, the whole Empress fanfare is more than a bit disturbing. Then again, at least this time you didn’t go on at length about her magical powers.

  18. DD says:

I don’t think he actually that. Hopefully he’s learned to stop constantly re-iterating his kids nationalities like that’s what they are all about. That last comment sounds like someone drunk talking.

  19. Peace says:

These same hateful people will be on the next Jennifer Aniston blog saying stop saying hateful stuff about Jennifer. She’s just living her life.
Haters want to come on here and blast Pitt and Jolie but don’t want you to say anything about Aniston.
Such a sick twisted bunch of people. Where does the circle end. I wish Jennifer Aniston fans stop acting like they are so concern about Pitt and Jolie’s kids because even I can see you clearly don’t.
Please let go of the negative-bitter behavior.

  20. what catty biatches says:

AGREE, peace. I don’t get the hypocrisy of these “fans”. Leave all three of them alone and start living what’s left of your lives, for f***’s sake. The divorce was 5 yrs. ago. If you still can’t get over it, then get help.
