Evangeline Lilly frustrates producers b/c she could be ‘next Angelina Jolie’

There’s no love lost between me and Evangeline Lilly’s Lost character Kate. Kate is the worst part of the show, one of the few poorly-drawn characters, and Evangeline isn’t a very good actress. But still, she’s cute, and I could see how her beauty and Lost fame could mean bigger paydays in film work. But Evangeline has never been interested in super-stardom, so I give her points for consistency. Evangeline has even said that after Lost, she probably won’t act again. Now Evangeline has given another interview where she’s talking about how she has shunned the opportunities given to her to “become the next Angelina Jolie.” It sounds like Evangeline is quite proud of frustrating movie producers:

THE only reason “Lost” star Evangeline Lilly isn’t as famous as Angelina Jolie is because she doesn’t want to be.

The TV actress tells the June issue of Women’s Health that her producers “have seen that I haven’t picked up on the opportunity to become a big movie star. It frustrates [them] that they’ve given me this chance to become the next Angelina Jolie” but she hasn’t gone after it.

Lilly adds, “Sure, I’d love to be her, but just the humanitarian side.”

I don’t really think Evangeline is bragging, saying that she could be the next Angelina Jolie – Lilly seems to be using Angelina’s name as shorthand for “big film actress”. In any case, I think Megan Fox would have something to say about Evangeline being the next Jolie.

Evangeline was recently announced as one of the new “faces” of Loreal, joining Elizabeth Banks and Freida Pinto. It was an interesting move for someone who claims to not be interested in the whole stardom thing, but I’d bet Lilly is just taking the money to do her missionary and humanitarian work. Or she’s going to blow it all on strippers and blow, either/or.

That means, they tried to do with her what they try to do with megan fox, selling us that she’s the new angelina jolie: beautiful, wild, provocative, etc. I think the angelinification of megan fox is so obvious (her interviews are pathetic) that it won’t work. But who knows…

    ~

celebrities get packaged, marketed and sold like cereal.
it’s done that way because we fall for it and buy it every time.

we get manipulated a lot more than any of us would care to be aware of.

I don’t understand why she went into acting at all if she is so eager to get out of it, if she has such high ideals, as she is telling people all the time.

The fact is, for a serious actress, a role like Kate *should* act as a springboard for better roles. The fact that she continues to renew her contract, without any desire whatsoever to act, makes no sense to me, and also seems really contradictory.

She is awesome! Love her. I can’t stand the character “Kate” that she plays, but Evie rocks.

I don’t blame her though. Who would want to be the next Angelina? How about being the next “Original”.

I like her better for not being the fame whore that Megan Fox is. She makes her money, does her job, and isn’t interested in the crap that goes along with it; good for her. More substance, less fake boobs is a good thing to anybody with an IQ over 15.

i think she used AJ’s name bc producers prolly say out right – we want to make u the next AJ. She really doesnt want that.

But ur right, she can’t act all that well – and her character only sucked this season, its not her fault, but the writers.

She is so cute, and i really like kate (san season 5) but as far as evay goes, don’t know much about her, but i wish her luck – the loreal contract will do wonders for her so she might change her mind soon enough.

her dress is nice, but her shoes are better!

That shoes does not go with that dress. Maybe if the dress is a shorter, it would be okay.

Yeah she has starred in a movie. I saw her in the movie Afterwards which came out this year. It had John Malkovich and the French actor Romain Duris and was based on a French book (but the movie was shot in the US and is an American production, even if Evangeline speaks fluent French)

Beyond that I don’t know of any other movies.

I once thought Evie was the coolest new actress ever, now..well, I think she’s been living in the bubble for so long she is out of touch with reality.

Uhhm…uhhhm..Evie?..Canada’s on the phone(you know the country that never had a black or gay or woman PM)…time to go home, dear. Pick up some Tim Horton’s on the way, while you’re at it.

just because she doesn’t want to be a huge star doesn’t mean anything is wrong with her. do you all realize how ugly hollywood really is? She probably is on Lost and does her L’Oreal deal so she can have some income. She’s not determined to be a starlet. i personally love Evie. Kate’s not the best character in the world, but I think Evie does the best with what she’s got. I think she’s a good actress, she just has a crappy role to work with.
