People: Angelina Jolie’s kids were super-polite at a London bookstore

Here’s a photo of Angelina Jolie in a meeting at the Foreign Office in London yesterday. She met up with her friend William Hague, plus Baroness Anelay and the former president of Kosovo. Angelina has been in London for a few days, and she’s been getting pap’d with the kids – go here to see some photos. I think all of the kids have joined her in London? Probably. She took her three daughters to a bookstore on Monday! As for why Jolie is in London – she’s doing more work on her Preventing Sexual Violence in Conflict Initiative. Here’s more from People:

Angelina Jolie is raising some avid readers. The actress and four of her children hit up a local London bookstore on Monday, where an onlooker tells PEOPLE they indulged in a literary shopping spree. “She bought about 30 books,” says the onlooker. “Mostly coloring books, a Harry Potter book, plus some book markers and Easter-themed project books.”

Jolie was joined by her three girls — Shiloh, Vivienne, and Zahara — along with one of her boys, who the onlooker did not identify. “She was talking to the girl at the counter about how she loves to get her kids to enjoy books and loves London, as there are so many good bookstores,” says the onlooker.

“She also thanked me for being considerate and sweet for letting her kid have the last copy of the Deathly Hallows. It was in my hand at the time, but I let him have it,” adds the source. “She was lovely. Her kids are so polite. Her lad came over and thanked me for letting him have the book he wanted for a school project. Called me ‘Sir.’ Nice people.”

Meanwhile, the filmmaker-actress, 41, returned to the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in London on Monday, where she commemorated the fifth anniversary of the Preventing Sexual Violence Initiative (PSVI) she helped launch in 2012. Jolie partnered up with then-British foreign secretary William Hague to prevent the use of rape and sexual violence as a means of terror during wars and conflict. Five years later, Jolie is promoting the Time to Act initiative to hold sexual offenders accountable for their war crimes.

“When this kind of violence and abuse happens in peacetime, we are absolutely clear it is a crime that deserves to be punished by law,” Jolie exclusively tells PEOPLE. “But when it happens in the middle of a conflict, on a mass scale, with such brutal violence, it is treated as something impossible to prevent or somehow justified by the climate of war.”

Jolie will be heading to Geneva on Wednesday to continue her humanitarian work. She will deliver the Annual Sergio Vieira de Mello Memorial Lecture at the United Nations Assembly Hall, focusing on key emerging humanitarian themes and topical issues that continue to reflect the late U.N. Brazilian diplomat’s principles, philosophy, and work.

I’ve heard that before about the Jolie-Pitt kids, that they are always well-behaved and polite in public. No tantrums, no running around, no yelling. And I guess the kids are getting a trip to Geneva too! Nice. I hope they get some Swiss chocolate and some more books. I always loved going to the bookstore a kid too. Angelina is constantly taking her kids to bookstores and craft stores. I feel like the Jolie-Pitt kids are constantly reading and/or dyeing Easter eggs. As for Angelina’s work… I admire her and the work so much. I don’t have much to say besides that.

I don’t think I’ve used these photos before? These are pics of Angelina Jolie at the Malibu Country Mart with Knox and Vivienne back in January of this year.

How come she’s wearing a big coat and leather pants and boots and her kids are very lightly dressed.. that’s funny. I don’t mean anything by that, just an observation.

    • crazydaisy says:

Agreed—that whole outfit was a miss, imho! But let’s talk about London. Those kids are having quite the life, right? I’m so interested to see how they turn out… Especially Shiloh (who appears to now be a pro at hiding their face from paps: That huge hoodie comes in handy.) Fascinated by them.

  2. Cherise says:

@zan And leather pants, knee high leather boots and a black camisole. That photo is all kinds of puzzling

    • Who ARE These People? says:

It’s like she threw some pants on under her nighty…except for AJ, “some pants” = skintight leather + leather boots.

  3. Aims says:

It’s always nice to hear when kids are well behaved . I would be surprised if Angelina’s kids weren’t .

  4. Lucy says:

That outfit is THE BUSINESS. I need all of it. AG’s street style can be rather underrated in my opinion.

  5. Kristen820 says:

I’m with Aims – I’d be surprised if they weren’t well behaved. You don’t wrangle 6 kids of various ages successfully (even with help) without strong ground rules.

  6. cindy says:

Having your kids behave in public is much harder than you would think. Before I had my daughter I judged the crap out of people who had unruly kids in public, but no more. And that is a lot of kids to keep well behaved at one time….she really must be a good parent.

That all black outfit and gray coat are amazing.

    • jwoolman says:

It probably has helped a lot that she has had other adults working routinely with the kids (individual nannies and tutors). This lets each kid get immediate attention when needed so there isn’t competition, plus they get other models for behavior. And they seem to be kept pretty busy. It’s a lot harder when there is only one or even two adults wrangling a pack of children.

    Boot porn yum!!!

  8. Karen says:

That is not what they were wearing yesterday. You can see photos on Daily Mail. It was the twins and Shiloh. The older 3 children were not there.

    • Peeking in says:

It was clearly stated that these pics are from January in Malibu, though. Also, there is a link in the story for the current pics.

  9. Mew says:

She has dyed her hair darker again, leather-look-like pants and high heels.. no more 100% sacks.

  10. bap says:

Angelina is an Amazing Woman and Mother!

  11. LadyT says:

She and the children look happy and healthy. The divorce went private nearly 2 months ago and we have yet to see Pitt out with the kids. I’ll admit I’m curious how that’s all shaking out.

    • Ophelia says:

I thought she managed to keep full physical custody. Doesn’t that mean the kids must travel with her all the time?

      • LadyT says:

I have no idea myself but the children have certainly seemed to be in her custody. I have not seen pictures of Brad with them.

      • KB says:

She definitely has to get his permission to take them out of state. As long as he has joint legal custody, he’s got as much say as she does. Physical custody doesn’t matter when it comes to taking the kids out of state.

They’re almost certainly sharing physical custody by now if he continued to fight for it after they switched to a private judge. Maddox and Pax would have a say in who they wanted to stay with though. Like Rocco wanting to live with Guy Ritchie instead of Madonna, they could choose to stay exclusively with their mom if that’s what they wanted.

    • TheOtherSam says:

I think perhaps things are settling down a bit, hopefully. There were rumors (at dicey sites, so don’t put huge stock but still interesting) that Pitt actually traveled to S. Asia when all the kids were there to take them for a few days while Angelina had things to attend to. He stayed privately at a nearby resort and some people saw him with the kids there.

Really hope these two can work things out visitation and custody-wise. So much better for the kids. They have the wealth and means to accommodate each other in terms of travel and accommodations, they should do it when possible.

    • Lucy2 says:

I think that’s a good thing. I hope they are getting some time with their dad, but that it stays private.

      • Carmen says:

I hope they are in regular contact with the senior Pitts. Kids need their grandparents in their lives and vice-versa.

  12. Hazel says:

I’m all for kids getting interested in books, but I hope folks would think of public libraries first. Granted, she’s in a foreign country at the moment, but maybe back at home–?

  13. QQ says:

IDK why but people seem to expect her kids to be uncouth or something? and then act surprised when they are Children yes but with manners

    • Peeking in says:

Perplexing, QQ. I don’t get it either. She has given no indication that she wouldn’t teach her kids good manners.

  14. vespernite says:

Love her and her kids. Still wish she and Brad could work it out. There was such passion and fire between them and by all appearances respect. One can hope…

  15. Lavnbb says:

I wonder if those early rumours were true, around the time of the split that she had her eye on something in London and she was vying for a position or possible foray into politics in London.
Is Angelina trying to be Amal Clooney , work in London with movers and shakers there or has Angelina always had interest in working in London?

If I was the Baronesss I wouldn’t trust her around the hubby. Just saying.

  16. Rae says:

I have to say, I would love to sit down with Angelina and Victoria B to see how they’ve done it (props to dads too). Both very famous families seemed to have raised really nice children from multiple reports.

I think people are shocked because the general standard of basic manners seems to be falling, it’s nice to see a good old basic thank you in action.
