Taylor Swift is probably going to launch a ton of Swifties-branded crap

Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute Gala: Manus x Machina: Fashion in the Age of Technology

Isn’t it pleasantly surprising that Taylor Swift can really go underground when she wants to? She’s arguably the biggest thing in music, and everyone thought she would be releasing new music right about now. We thought that we would be in the midst of a huge Swifty promotional tour to promote her album, complete with blind-item songs to analyze and eye-rolly quotes to Vanity Fair and Vogue about how the squad is for realsies and the big bad men did her wrong. But no. Tay-Tay has been in the wind, for the most part, for months now. No pap strolls in and out of the gym. No gratuitous Instagramming. So public friend-collecting. It’s been a relief, actually. I imagine Taylor sucks up all of the attention in whatever room she’s in, and she’s like that for gossip too – when Taylor wants attention, she gets attention and every major gossip story is about The Taylor Swift Show.

There is some evidence that we might get The Taylor Swift Show at some point this year though. Apparently, Swift has gone on a new trademarking binge, and there are rumors that she’s going to release her own streaming service:

Taylor Swift is done fighting Spotify and other streaming services for royalties, and apparently wants to become the master of her own destiny by starting her own streaming service. Taylor’s filed docs giving her the right to brand a website “featuring non-downloadable multi-media content in the nature of audio recordings.” Sounds like a streaming service to us. She wants to call the website “Swifties.”

You’ll recall Taylor famously feuded with Spotify over royalties and ended up yanking her catalog back in 2014. The move sent Spotify and others into crisis mode, fearing other artists might follow. It looks like Taylor’s going beyond a streaming service. According to the docs, she’s looking to launch a line of music products, including guitars, guitar picks, guitar straps and drumsticks. Her plans also include organizing retreats, educational camps and self-guided online courses. We reached out to Taylor’s camp, so far no word back.

[From TMZ]

Billboard had some additional analysis about the scope of these trademarks and theories about what Taylor is planning next. Gossip Cop got a very specific denial about TMZ’s story, btw. Gossip Cop’s source claims that Taylor is not going to do a Spotify-competitive streaming service but they say she definitely has some new ventures in the works. And just FYI: just because she wants to trademark all of this, that doesn’t mean she’s actually going to do anything with it, you know? She may just want to ensure that no one else can introduce or profit from a Swifties-branded venture. That being said, I think she’s gearing up for the mother of all promotional tours for a new album. I think she’s going multi-platform in a big way, and she’s determined to get #AllTheMoney. Which is her least annoying characteristic, honestly. I think Swifty is an a–hole for many different reasons, but I’ve always respected her business acumen and her brilliant marketing mind.

How can someone with so much money have such sh-tty looking hair?!

    • Bee says:

How can someone with so much money be so greedy for more?!

      • Blu says:

Said every bitter underachiever ever. She’s not greedy, she’s doing her job.

      • Becky says:

There’s a perception she values money over quality.

      • mar_time says:

Damn Blu that’s rude! And no… you don’t have to be an “underachiever” to see greed for what it is. Sure, she donates a lot of money but that helps her reputation in the long run so 🤷🏻‍♀️ George Michael is someone who donated so much but never publicly announced it, see it’s doable!

    • It'sJustBlanche says:

I generally like what she wears a lot but her hair is crap. Having said that, it’s super fine and probably really hard to work with. Her buddy karlie kloss has even worse hair.

      • ell says:

super fine hair is hard to work with, speaking from experience. these comments about her hair are demoralising, since lots of people have fine hair and there’s nothing we can do about it, other than getting extensions which i don’t want to because they look gross.

      • Beth says:

I have had super fine hair since my thick hair didn’t grow back after losing it all 10 years ago. Not much I can do with it. I wear my hair, which is dark blonde, the way Kim Kardashian has been just not so long. When a little bald spot was showing, a lady recently asked why my hair was so thin and falling out while I was still young. That made me feel super crappy

      • WeAreAllMadeofStars says:

Isn’t curly hair actually coarse? Maybe if she’d work with what she got, at least in a way that doesn’t massively damage the hair, it would look much better. You can’t mess with what you were born with too much or it becomes way too damaged over time.

      • Original T.C. says:

I have super fine curly hair. You just have to be gently with it and leave it natural. Swifty’s problem is she fries her hair almost daily with heat to straighten it. My hair looked as fried and lifeless as hers when I used to straighten it with heat. You can’t do that with her hair type.

As a Black girl, trust me it takes a lot of TLC to wear my hair natural. Swifty just has to accept her curly hair and condition it weekly.

      • Original T.C. says:

        @WEAREALLMADEOFSTARS

It’s a common misperception that all curly hair is coarse. It’s actually not true, curly hair has the exact same grades as straight hair (superfine, fine, regular, coarse).

Although I have a super Afro, my hair is as soft and fragile as hair on a newborn baby. Looking at it people falsely think it’s rough or coarse. Like the ladies above said, when I flat iron it, you can see right through to my scalp. But natural, it’s full and tightly coiled.

Some “normal” grade curly gals hair may feel crunchy but that’s usually from product used to defined the curls and prevent them from looking a hot mess in humid temperatures.

    • Kat says:

I’ve always said the same thing about her hair!! I loathe the mousy colour and her horrible bangs! If you have piles of money and access to any stylist, why not make yourself look your best? And I second the comment about Karlie’s assy hair style too- have never seen such pretty women fight to look so bad.

    • Fallon says:

I spend more time than I should wondering this.

      • Kat says:

Fallon, I actually had my husband asked why I cared so much about her hair. I said no one with real friends would tell their friend that was their best look 😉

    • kimbers says:

She has naturally super curly hair and battles the dryness that comes from straightening and dying. . .

      • justme says:

She should just allow the curl to come through. What the heck is wrong with curly hair? Women used to kill their hair to make it curly; now they kill their hair to make it straight. Go with the curl, Taylor – you’ll look better.

  2. Tanguerita says:

don’t miss her smug mug at all. She can stay away forever for all I care.

  3. Meow says:

Looks like a possessed blow-up doll, right?

  4. Jess says:

Gossip Cop’ source is Taylor’s publicist, so I would trust them over TMZ

  5. Penny says:

Anyone else notice how quiet she’s been this year? It’s odd because she’s usually so in your face.

Who would have thought Tom Hiddleson would be the one talking most about her?

    • Alleycat says:

It just shows you that all those pap walks in the past were because she wanted them. I honestly wonder if she could ever top her last album. Not in quality, but in popularity. She was everywhere, so I’m not sure how she’ll beat those sales.

    • jetlagged says:

She’s always been so in your face because she has had things to sell, the girl has been on a non-stop album/touring/album cycle for most of her career, and this is the first time there is nothing to promote. If it wasn’t obvious that the pap walks and constant posting to social media were a marketing strategy before, it is now. Or Tay Tay has finally discovered the secret to not getting photographed was actually one easy step – don’t call the paparazzi before leaving the house.

    • Beth says:

She hasn’t been around much lately. She has nothing going on right now. Tom is promoting a movie and gets nagged about Taylor during interviews

  6. Shambles says:

Nah, she’s not underground. Another poster pointed this out yesterday, and I’ve talked about it a little bit too. A pattern is becoming clear. She has her “friends” (sycophants) talk about her in every. Single. Interview. That they give. So we don’t forget dear Tay Tay, but she gets to claim she’s acting low key. Her media manipulations are transparent.

    • Blu says:

God, you’re invested. Do you think she asks them deliberately to talk about her? She’s famous so of course interviewers are going to ask her friends about them.
Go back to explaining Tommy boy.

      • says:

Hmm it looks to me like you’re the invested one…

      • Shambles says:

lol I’ve made no secret of the fact that I can’t stand Taylor Swift. So yeah. I am invested. No shame.

        Thanks, Hæ.

      • ell says:

@Shambles why are you so invested in someone you don’t like though? it’s odd. there are tons of dudes i cannot stand, tom hiddleston being one of them, and sometimes is fun to wind up his stans because they make it really easy, but i’m hardly invested.

      • Alleycat says:

@Ell She’s commenting on a celebrity she doesn’t like, how is that odd? I don’t think Shambles meant she’s actually invested in Taylor’s life, but she’s free to comment on a gossip site if she wants. You just admitted doing the same thing to Tom’s posts. Sometimes it’s nice to come here and vent about a person who irritates you. I love Shambles posts about Taylor, it’s often similar to how I feel.

      • ell says:

‘she’s free to comment on a gossip site if she wants’

that’s some reading comprehension fail. when did i say she can’t comment if she wants? i said it’s odd to be INVESTED (i put it in capitals, maybe it will be more clear what i’m talking about) in someone she can’t stand. her words, not mine.

also, i said i sometimes have some petty fun at TH’s stans expense, not that i’m invested in him. again, reading my actual comment would probably help the general understanding.

      • Nanny to the Rescue ( ex-Crox) says:

Anybody who writes more than 1 post about a pointless celebrity gossip of any topic here is overinvested. That includes me and most of you (definitely ell and Shambles).

      • ell says:

oh, i’m definitely invested in taylor, but i sort of like her. i wouldn’t write more than one comment about someone i can’t stand, unless i was feeling particularly petty that day.

      • Nanny to the Rescue says:

ell, but how does that differ from whatr Shambles is doing? It’s just basic overinvestment in a celebrity you (or she, or me) dislike, even if the reason is feeling particularly petty that day.

    • Babs says:

Of course she doesn’t ask them to talk about her. It’s Taylor freaking Swift. She orders them to talk about her.

      • WeAreAllMadeofStars says:

Ha ha, right on. The same way that titles are picked to generate clicks on the internet, interview questions are manipulated to ensure maximum exposure. This is a secret to nobody younger than my mother.

    • virginfangirl2 says:

I can’t understand why so much negative attention is given to any person whose behavior is quite harmless compared to the many dangerous, awful, behaviors we see lately that truly need our attention. I don’t agree that mean comments are OK, as long as it’s just to “wind up his stans.” Maybe I’m misreading the intentions of this and the comments are made all in good fun, in which I apologize because we all need a good laugh sometimes. But comments that are made with the worse intentions are very hurtful.

  7. Beth says:

That black lipstick is harsh. Terrible look

  8. Guest says:

Whenever I see this face, I want to slap it. Hard. Sorry for being so harsh but I just can’t stand this immature woman.

  9. VGZee says:

She can stay underground and keep all this crap. Wouldn’t it be fun if she goes big with all this promotion and her album flops? I know, I know I’m being a horrible b**ch but I’m just so tired of her face and her middle school drama.

  10. OhDear says:

Sounds like she’s starting to move away from music into branding?

    • Embee says:

I said this on another thread the other day, but I think she is mixing it up. I believe she wants to do something bigger and more broad than making albums. My guess was talent agency or a label to start/promote new talent.

  11. Jmendo says:

Taylor beening hiding from her latest psycho fan. He’s been inside her NYC apartment building, on her roof and rung her doorbell for an hour one day and 45 minutes another day. Its been going on since December, so this is probably the reason she’s been In hiding.

    • Becky says:

Really? She’s had stalkers before, there was one in July last year. The last time she went under the radar she reappeared with a boob job, and some weight gain as a distraction.

  12. Nanny to the Rescue says:

How is she undercover and not pap’d? If you check her fans blogs, there are sightings all the time.
Luckly with little coverage, because there’s really not much to say.

Anyway, she’s definitely at least keeping a low profile ATM. Which is smart, she had a bad 2016. She’ll blow up again in the fall, when – if we believe Sheeran – her album arrives. All these small rumours and this business deal are here to ease up the public before the big bang.

Then people will crave for the times like these when she was not everywhere.

    • justme says:

Actually there have not been sightings all the time. Her fans are going nuts trying to figure it out because they live to have sightings of her. Even her crazy jet tracking fans are stumped because her jets move infrequently, mostly staying in Nashville for long periods of time. For a while they ran with the idea that she was chartering jets to go to London to visit Tom (some of them still believe this) so that nobody will be able to track her. Then Tom was asked directly on a radio show in the UK if he was single and he said yes absolutely and available. So that seems to be out as a possibility (to be totally fair, MOST of her fans did not think they were still together.)

      • ell says:

i think it’s insane that fans actually track her, wtf.

      • justme says:

@ell – it is insane that they track her. Especially since she has taken steps to make her planes harder to track – but not impossible. Still she obviously doesn’t want to be tracked (who would) yet “so-called” fans still try to do so. Again not most of them, just a small group. In the last few months her planes have apparently not moved, so they have started to track random charter which fly from Nashville to London which they decide she must be on.

      • Nanny to the Rescue says:

I was able to find fresh (about 2 weeks old, I think) fan (pap?) photos of her the last time I talked to somebody about this here (it wasn’t long ago). And that was like 3rd Google page, really not much of a search.

I tried to find them now but Google is filled with the new news & rumours & Sheeran from the last few days and I ran out of ides on how to limit my search to reach those fan sites again. It was easy then because you only had to limit the time.

You don’t have to believe me, that’s your right. But I know what I found.

  13. kimbers says:

These are the best post2poster snarky comments to read in a while

  14. Swift says:

You guys can talk shit about her, but at the end of the day, we all know who’s successful. It’s funny how you guys have time to criticize her, looks like everyone is deep down obsessed with her and listens to her amazing songs when nobody is around.

  15. JWSWJ says:

She’s hoping that if she stays out of sight people will forget what a lying tramp she is.

    • Lalu says:

      Lying tramp? Do tell….
She seems pretty dull. I have heard a song or two that she sings… Nothing special. She seems to be really disliked here. I cannot imagine what someone so boring did for anyone to have a strong reaction to her. She writes dumb songs about her ex boyfriends?
Seriously…. Did she sleep with someone’s husband ? I have never heard anything bad about her.

      • ell says:

they hate her because she killed their tom hiddleston boner. or because she sings about her ex-bfs. i’m not quite sure.

tbh, i’m not the biggest fan myself, there are things that she does i hate e.g. using feminism to sell her records but not bothering at all when feminism actually matters, but it bothers me that most of the comments about her are vaguely misogynist.

      • Lalu says:

I wanted to add… I wasn’t trying to be mean when I called her dull etc. I should have chosen better words. I meant that she seems pretty harmless. I’ve never really heard anything controversial about her.

      • Babs says:

I hate her because of the bratty and not so lowkey racist stunt she pulled on Kanye.

      • ell says:

@Babs that’s a reason i can get behind. especially because she was using the feminist card for that one too, and she got me.

      • Guest says:

        Here is my list:
        She can’t sing.
        She can’t dance.
She writes stupid lyrics and people think that it is a genius move.
She calls paps whenever she likes it.
She seems to have a stick up in her arse.
She doesn’t only look like a snake, she is a snake.
She associates with people who are IN right now and calls them squad… Wtf?
She bans people out of parties just because they dared to critisize her.
She made a career of talking shit about her ex boyfriends and turns everything into a spectacle whenever she dates.
Every guy is the love of her life and she is always the victim.
She gains female young fans by using feminism but doesn’t care about pussy grabbing Trump.
        She has an annoying voice.
She never shuts her mouth. Probably because of her fake teeth.
She is 27 and behaves like 12. Immature as hell.
Using charity. Don’t believe one tiny charity stuff of her.
She is a pain in the ass and I blame the absence of Britney for this. Poor Britney, at least that girl is nice. Come back Britney.
        She is manipulative.
She can’t dress. Not at all.
Last but not least: She killed Hiddleston for me.
She is a modern day Medusa.
End of rant. Sorry. Sorry. I had a bad day.

    • Otaku Fairy says:

@JWSWJ: You only make yourself look bad (and give Taylor Swift and her fans grounds to say criticism of her is sexist) when you can’t deal with disliking her without resorting to misogyny. There’s enough to criticize about Taylor Swift or any other celebrity someone doesn’t like without pulling the hymen card and making it about biblical values just because the person we’re talking about happens to be a woman.

  16. Sparkle says:

Everything about her is so contrived to me. Her voice is so bad, it’s like she’s not even singing she’s just talking over music. And always the same stupid songs, same trite lyrics. She needs a new stylist too, always a boring metallic/sparkly dress, same knee socks and loafers and little itty bitty handbags for her daily pap walks in NYC. GO AWAY.

    • virginfangirl2 says:

But doesn’t she go away if you don’t click on her stories, don’t follow her SM, turn off the station when her song comes on. She’s very easy to avoid. Until I joined this site, I avoided her for years and years, and still could if I chose to.

      • Nanny to the Rescue says:

        Thank you!

And this goes for all ceberities we dislike. It’s really nobody’s fault but our own that we keep reading about them. Ignore the articles and your blood pressure won’t go up because of that. It’s really that simple.

As for Taylor, I didn’t know anything about her songs or private life before last year, when I read about the Kanye complaint at Grammys, and people here are treating it like everybody knows everything about her. Well, no. We only know stuff if we’re interested in celebrities (in positive or negative way).

To this day I know nothing about f.e. Beyoncé except for 2 hit songs from the radio. But almost nothing about her life or business, and I see articles and pictures of her almost daily on all gossip sites, especially lately. But I don’t care about her so I don’t read it. If you’re not invested in some way, gossip really has no effect.

  17. SK says:

    Guest, you preach the truth

  18. Mylene-Montreal says:

i think its giving her to much credit to thing she a bright bussiness women. People forget that celebrity have a bunch of PR specialist and marketing team who work with them. Taylor Swift is a big money machine so her label will put every specialist to work with her for her brand …. i don’t think she’s so intelligent ……..
