Duchess Kate was approved for membership for the Tuvalu Order of Merit?

Duchess of Cambridge attends launch

It’s been said by the harshest of royal-watchers that the Duchess of Cambridge has done nothing to warrant a special recognition, order of merit or any special medal from the Queen. The Queen tends to give away special orders or merits to her daughters-in-law or grandchildren after they’ve done something amazing, or after years of service. Kate has been a part of the royal family for nearly six years, and she has no orders or merits. Well, here’s an interesting piece of news which isn’t being reported in the British media (at least not as far as I see): Kate will possibly be getting a “membership” to the Tuvalu Order of Merit:

Basically, the Queen gave the nod for Kate to be formally nominated for a very small order of merit in Australia. Still no Dame Grand Cross of the Royal Victorian Order (GCVO), which the Countess of Wessex got in 2010. Still no Royal Family Order. I mean… I don’t think we should go down this path of thinking that the Queen is basically admitting that Kate does next to nothing to deserve special recognition. I suspect that the Queen is waiting for a big anniversary to give Kate something special, and yes, I do think Kate will eventually get something from the Queen. Perhaps this Tuvalu Order of Merit is just to placate the Middletons.

Incidentally, here is the full video of Kate’s speech last Thursday, ahead of the screening of Out of the Blue. Considering how rarely she speaks publicly, it’s difficult to compare her speeches from one year to the next. I’d say this one was well-written, and Kate maybe gets a +1 for not having her hanging down in her face. But she was not familiar or comfortable with the speech and she’s just saying words while she focuses on maintaining her Princess Accent. The accent is so posh that she flat-out slurs her words together because she thinks that sounds posher.

  1. MunichGirl says:

She’s so bad at giving speeches and that fake accent is just horrible.

  2. Indira says:

She tries to sound more posh than other RF members.. I don’t know why she does that.

    • Miko says:

Horrid speech giver. Horrid. So busy trying to maintain a plum in mouth accent ,she sounds so utterly fake and then she doesn’t connect with the words personally, it all seems so read!

  3. lisa says:

some days, laughing at her fake accent is all i have

  4. Digital Unicorn (aka Betti) says:

If this is true then its likely a shade from TQ. A senior royal getting a very minor ‘award’, yeah that’s a shade to her ‘work’. The message is clear, if you want one of the big boys, you gotta WORK for it sweet cheeks.

I can’t listen to her talk – it offends my ears.

    • annabanana says:

Some words are understandable some I really cant, need subtitles. The head bobbing is so distracting it’s ok to look down once in awhile NOT every 5 seconds. She looks a lot better in the pics, in the video she lloks old

      • Patricia says:

Every 5 seconds is too generous. How about every other word. I can’t watch videos of her speaking. Too squirmy embarrassing on her behalf. You would think she would try harder to improve.

    • Megan says:

Someone else nominated her. The Queen simply approved the nomination. I believe there is an independence anniversary coming up in Tuvalu. I assume Tuvalu nominated her to generate publicity for the island nation. I actually have no problem with that because Tuvalu isn’t really on the beaten tourist track.

      • LAK says:

The award was created for the occassion of their 38th Independence celebration in October 2016.

The PM said it was an award for contribution to Tuvalu.

I leave it to you to explain how Kate (but not William) has contributed to Tuvalu. I bet most people don’t remember it was a stop on one of their earlier tours in 2012.

      • Digital Unicorn (aka Betti) says:

Either way – its still a shade as TQ hasn’t nominated her yet for any honors. This coming from a 3rd party isn’t good optics.

      • notasugarhere says:

Yes, why her and not William or anyone else in the royal family for this new honor? Entirely possible HM leaned on someone to nominate her. Lots of talk about her having no orders at recent events.

Camilla received her RFO at the 2 year mark, Diana at 18-24 months. Sophie received the RFO at the 5 year mark, but she wasn’t full-time as a royal for the first three years. Maybe HM has caved and given KM the RFO as part of sapphire anniversary/jubilee in February? Time will tell.

      • Nikki says:

Megan, LAK, Notasugar, etc: really enjoy your informative comments!! You sort of “flesh out” the story for me with background info!

      • TryingToThink says:

Picking up her award in Tuvalu would allow Waity Katie to go for a holiday in the Caribbean. I doubt she would resist that.

      • Megan says:

@trying that seems unlikely. Tuvalu is in the Pacific.

      • addie says:

It’s all a nonsense. What exactly has she done for Tuvalu to warrant this award? More like she’s all boohoo that she has no invented trinkets to wear at state occasions, for whatever they are worth, and all the other BRF do. She deserves a big fat zero which is, coincidentally, her exact contribution.

  5. Khaleesi says:

    What language is she speaking?!

    • Maria says:

i was thinking my hearing was going. I kept on thinking “what, what…” Maybe she is speaking in tongues. The end is coming!

    • Sarah says:

She really doesn’t sound like she is speaking English!!! And she pauses in weird places, she is really reading the speech as if she has never seen it before. It’s not her words, that’s for sure.

She is talking about the most basic and personal issue here: motherhood. And she acts like she is talking about a complex issue in the realm of quantam physics. She is a HORRIBLE speaker.

    • LaMaitresse says:

Up Market Chav, coined by the Kingdom of Carole.

  6. Adele Dazeem says:

Are there ANY other people in GB that truly talk like that?? Seriously. Does she not hear how fake and terrible it is?

    • Digital Unicorn (aka Betti) says:

A few but they are people who are trying to sound more posh than they really are. I have worked with the upper privileged classes and they do NOT talk like this. She sounds like someone who is very BADLY mimicking how the people around her talk or how she thinks they talk.

      • NOLA says:

The words I could barely make out were: experience, exhaustion, and negative. It’s like she skips the second syllable of the word. It took me several beats to figure out what she was saying.

    • Frisbee says:

The irony is that Princess Diana who really was terribly posh had elecution lessons to tone her Sloane accent down. That Kate is ramping hers right up suggests a chronic lack of self confidence or possibly a bad case of imposter syndrome to me.

      • graymatters says:

General Cluelessness Syndrome. Professionals know it as GCS. It’s always been an issue but, with the advent of the internet and social media, is only now coming to the attention of the wider public.

Perhaps the Cambridges can spearhead a charity campaign to combat this.

      • frisbee says:

‘GCS’ ooh like it! Problem with a charity is that it could never serve the sheer number of sufferers across the globe – the numbers would be immense…

      • Sarah says:

I just went and listened to some interviews with Diana from 1989. She spoke very clearly. Kate sounds like she has a mouthful of marbles. What the heck, girl????

  7. Karen says:

I got as far as “2 in 10.” So lazy she can’t even simplify a fraction. 1 in 5.

  8. Meow says:

That lighting is doing her royal haggardness NO favours..

  9. sarri says:

Don’t they have people who teach them how to give good speeches? ^^

    • cindyp says:

I’m sure they do but that would take time & committment on her part. She is an embarrassment.

  10. The Original Mia says:

She won’t get an order from the Queen. It’ll be from Charles. If QEII was going to give her one, she would have. For the Jubilee, at George’s birth, her 5th Anniversary…

Her accent is laughable. Like she’s talking through a mouthful of marbles.

  11. COSquared says:

How random. Er…why an order from Tuvalu? Also, the Spanish state visit is in June so *maybe* there’s a chance she’ll show to the banquet in the RFO(which is never announced).

    • Maria says:

I wonder if she knows where Tuvalu is?

      • TryingToThink says:

        Sure she does.
She would pick up the award personally in Tuvalu and add a few holidays in the Caribbean.
She isn’t called Lazy Waity Katie for nothing. 😉

  12. Lainey says:

The orders brand new. Only established last year. Meant to be awarded for services to Tuvalu. So yeah it’s been given just to give her something. It also hasn’t shown up on the section on the awards each member has. So nobody really seems to know what it’s about.
The speech couldn’t even listen to it. The accent is unbearable. Nobody speaks like that. After 6 years she still can’t give a legible speech. And is still refusing to hire someone to help. Tells all about her attitude towards her work.

    • TryingToThink says:

It seems the order was created for the purpose of giving it to Kate and noting else but that? And surely there are some British government clerks who handle Tuvalus affairs and have done more for Tuvalu than Kates royal duties holiday visit?

I hope that Tuvalu got something in return for doing some medals PR for Kate.

      • Lainey says:

The only thing Kate has ever done was dance when she visited there when they visited five years ago. So yeah it was created just to give her something IMO.

  13. Ollie says:

I wonder if this is the way she speaks in private?
Could be a Prof. Ross Geller situation 😉

If this is her normal accent you know the Royals & Company laugh about her behind her back.

What’s Tuvalu and why is it an Order?

    • LAK says:

We can only hope it is a Prof. Ross Geller situation.

FYI: Tuvalu is a commonwealth country. One of the realms of the UK. It’s in the pacific ocean. Population: just over 9000 according to the last census. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tuvalu

As part of it’s independence celebrations last year (celebrating 38 years independent) it created an order of merit to be handed out to individuals that have made big contributions to Tuvalu.

If Kate receives this medal, she’ll be the first person in the world to have one.

    • Jen d. says:

This is a little random, but in nearby Vanuatu there is a religious sect that worships Prince Philip as a god. No joke. It’s called the Prince Philip movement

  14. Chaine says:

Top pic–her calves are amazing, wish mine looked that good! Is there any video of what her voice/accent really sounds like in unguarded moments?

  15. NOLA says:

Anyone else notice that for a speech that is ostensibly about postpartum depression, she didn’t use the actual term “postpartum depression” once! How can you give a speech to bring awareness about and destigmatize a medical condition and not use its proper name?!

This could have been a much more effective, natura, & interesting speech if she had (1) made it personal by referencing her own feelings, struggles, and emotions after delivering the kids or (2) used an anecdote about another woman who suffered with PP depression and the effects of that. Instead, the speech is impersonal. It’s like she’s discussing the weather. She exhibits no passion or interest in the topic.

    • Tata says:

Wow, i had no idea! I listened to a good deal of the speech and thought it was just about supporting mums, she said she has support, others do not, um…let us all support the mums who work so hard?

      • NOLA says:

My takeaway was that she was talking about PP depression. She mentioned women who, after birth, “suffer in silence.” They should talk to a friend or a physician. That these “feelings” could come upon them even a year after delivery. And that these emotions could impact how a woman looks and feels about her baby. It certainly sounded like PP depression to me.

      • TryingToThink says:

        It is surprising.
As a university graduate she should certainly know that you should mention the proper term for a phenomenon!!
        Hilarious!

    • addie says:

I think that is because she wants to appear ‘above’ having anything wrong – this idea that royalty is perfect, top brick in the chimney. Admitting that she had a problem is simply not an option to public admit.

She’s an atrocious speaker, and clearly was unfamiliar with the speech. So, so lazy.

  16. Odell says:

I really wonder how the British monarchy will be when the Queen and Prince Charles are gone. William doesn’t want to be king and if George will be like him, well yeah…

  17. WendyNerd says:

This is a super new, low-key order. If I had to guess, someone involved in the organization for it decided they needed the publicity. I wouldn’t be surprised if they shopped this around to other royals, who may have felt it inappropriate if they personally hadn’t made Tuvalu a project. But they brought it to Kate and she accepted, and TQ decided to approve it to help promote the nation’s order. Less to do with Kate, more to do with raising awareness of the Order.

    Of course, that’s pure speculation.

    • LAK says:

I think that you are right, but i enjoy the thought that HM is trolling Kate with this. Her medal-less appearance at events was becoming embarrassing and if it was put to HM to give Kate a medal to spare any more blushes, she finds a medal no one has heard of and gives it to Kate, problem solved. Proof HM loves Kate, she gave her a medal!!!

Ps: apologies to Tuvalu. I do not mean to make fun of their medal, but this situation is too gunny for words.

      • Digital Unicorn (aka Betti) says:

Yes am with you on this – plus its a big deal for Tuvalu, the very first person to get one of their new awards is the future Queen. As you say, her medal problem solved. And yes its amusing that it’s one that no one else prob didn’t want but hey she did visit there once and danced for them.

      • WendyNerd says:

Oh, I agree. Of course, it could be both. Like, maybe TQ was like, “Have you found someone to take the medal yet?”

Tuvalu: The only one interested is Kate. Though we know how you feel about that…

        Q: Kate’s medal-less for a reason. Although… Wait a sec, I need to make a phone call…

Kate: *picks up* Hulloh, Huh Royill Hah-nuss the Doochess of Cahm-bridge speaking. Who may I ahhhhsk is cohlling?

Q: Kate, you know it’s me. I’m nearly a century old and I know how caller ID works. And I know you know how caller ID works. So spare the fake, delighted exclamations of surprise you were preparing. And for that matter, spare me that god-awful accent or I’ll have all your skirts kidnapped and weighted in the dead of night and burn all your jeggings.

        K: O-Of course, Your Majesty!

Q: And stop fiddling with your bloody hair!

K: How did you know I—?”

Q: Because I know to whom I’m speaking. I’m calling to discuss Tuvalu.

K: That amusement park in Denmark with the fireworks?

Q: TUVALU! Not Trivoli, TUVALU!!! It’s an island nation. YOU WERE THERE. YOU DANCED THERE.

T *interrupting*: But we spoke to her, she said she was interested!

Q *covering speaking end and whispering*: This Kate we’re talking about. The only thing that interests her for more than three hours is her wiglet and that sailor chap. *goes back to call*

K: Did they declare me a goddess?

Q: Good bloody god, no, you racist twit. Not all islands are the same. An entirely different island deified one of us. And speaking of racists, it was Philip, not you. But THIS island did offer to make you the first member of their Order— *is cut off by the sound of screaming*— Hello?

K: FINALLY! YOU MEAN I’M FINALLY GOING TO GET ONE?! I’VE ALREADY GOT A PAIR OF JEGGINGS PICKED OUT THAT WOULD GO PERFECT WITH MY GARTER—

Q: NOT THE ORDER OF THE GARTER. I’D RATHER LET A SEX OFFENDER NEAR MY GARTERS THAN YOU.

K: Well, do I get a magic wand, then?

Q: NOT THE ORDER OF THE PHOENIX. THAT ISN’T REAL. THE ORDER OF TUVALU.

K: …Oh. But I will get to be a Dame, right?

        Q: No.

K: Well, what celebrities are in the Order? IS BEN AINSLIE IN IT?! HE LIKES TO SAIL TO ISLANDS!

Q: No one is in it. You’re the first one.

K: Ooooooh. I’m so honored, Your Majesty! Does the sash have buttons?

Q: You don’t get a sash. You would have a ribbon.

K: But I would be a DAME. Can my mother and sister come, too?

Q: You won’t be a Dame, Kate. Just a member. You get a pin and a ribbon that no one will recognize or care about. The upside is that when you wear it wrong, no one will care. And I told you to stop flipping your hair.

        K: How did you—?

Q: HANDS OFF YOUR FEMININE PARTS AS WELL, MIDDLETON! I SWEAR TO SAINT GEORGE I WILL HAVE EVERY PAIR OF JEGGINGS ON EARTH BURNT!

        K: But I—

Q: Anyways, let William know that he can stop stamping his feet and wetting his nappies over you not getting any honors. And do try your *giggle* very best *snicker* to try and find the time *snort* in your schedule for the ceremony. *giggle* I’m signing off on you becoming a member of an order *chuckle* that matches your level of prestige, depth, and *gasps of hilarity* humanity—

K: —But I thought you said I’m the only—

Q: Cheerio! *presses ‘End Call’, looks to Tuvalu* Many pardons, ladies and gentlemen. But this was too easy. And for what it’s worth, just for the joy this is bringing me now, your order shall have a special place in my heart for the rest of my days. Given the Windsor Woman life-expectancy, that is still a fair amount of days. I’ll put it in the place where the confidence in my grandson used to be.

T: …That’s fair. We are ever pleased to serve.

      • LAK says:

        WendyNerd, i love you😂

Cue Party pieces intentional untintentional cashing in with party tat that celebrates medals in torqouise and lemon colours to match the ribbon.

      • WendyNerd says:

And probably really tasteless “tropical” themed party gear, as well as a line of bundt cakes (because it’s sinking) that’s doused in the famous royal chutney.

Though TBH, I kind of doubt TQ sees Kate’s lack of honors as a “problem” so much as avoiding one. I wouldn’t be surprised if she and other members of the RF secretly RELISH the fact that people are noticing. Especially with them releasing an unprecedented royal diplomatic reception photo last year (where the lack of honors was most noticeable).

Also, MWAH DAHHLING. The feelings are returned.

    • TryingToThink says:

I would like to give a different take on Kate getting this unknown and new Tuvalu order.

There is this thing about medals and awards:

The more famous previous honorees are the more desireable is a medal / award.
For example the Nobel Prize(s) is (are) very desireable because many of its previous honorees are VERY famous, for example Einstein.

So Kate didnt get a famous medal because she shouldnt get a famous medal. She doesnt deserve a famous medal. Her getting that unimportant medal means that no previous honorees are insulted by her getting the same famous medal as them. I just wonder who might be the next honoree to get that order and who would accept it?
Basically that order is ruined because its first honoree is Waity Lazy Katie.

It seems that there a lot of tensions between kate and the queen. That doesnt bode well for the future if after being married for 6plus years the queen still has issues with her granddaughter in law.

I wonder who else is willing to accept a medal that Lazy Waity Katie got? Who wants to be put on the same shelf as the Duchess of Dolittle?
That medal(s reputation) is ruined by this first honoree.
      ?
      ?
      ?

sorry for the typos but my keyboard is fxckxd at the moment.
okay it is not my keyboard but this website gets it wrong.
keyboard z appears as a y on this page and such stuff
no idea how to fix it

      • Kitty says:

@TRYINGTOTHINK, it would have been more desirable if Diana got this award. Also why is Kate less famous than Diana?

      • Spiderpig says:

Google for free software to re-key your keyboard. I used it when the cat ate my 7.

      • WendyNerd says:

Oh, I can think of a few who might accept, but they’re all named ‘Middleton’.

Or hey, maybe Uncle Gary will take one. Possibly TERRIBLY RICH James Matthews as well.

      • LAK says:

I think on current showing, Terribly Rich James is a Middleton.

      • WendyNerd says:

LOL, LAK, how much do you want to bet they’ll make Mr. Boomf go by “James 2” after the wedding?

      • addie says:

Do the Middleton’s have some hypnosis super-power over these men marrying in, or drug them, or are William and James just weak?

      • WendyNerd says:

It’s the ladder. Weak men, especially among the rich, coddled set, are easy to find.

  18. BLewis1776 says:

Just listening to it you can actually hear the awkwardness. Maybe it is the turning of the pages it just seems so, her stiltedness, and her lack of intonation…amateur. There is no emotion, no feeling, no hint of anything that says she wants to be there and supports the institution’s cause. It is ridiculous because she is a college educated, 35 year old woman she should be able to give a better speech. Don’t get me wrong I am terrified of speaking in public and am not very good at it but it is not my “job” and she should be practicing and working with her speech writers. She can’t possibly be working with anyone because she has not gotten better in her delivery at all, which means she either is surrounded by people who won’t tell her what a weak job she is doing or she doesn’t care.

    • TryingToThink says:

      @ BLewis

      Thank you!

She isn’t convincing because she isn’t convinced.

Basically Waity wasn’t ever interested in anything else but marrying Wills since she left secondary school. She only went to university because of William.
She has no interests and no convictions because she spent the last two decades hunting Will. And her lack of interests and lack of convictions is becoming obvious now.

I find it hard to imagine that Kate didn’t get any help to improve her public speaking. It just wouldn’t be the royal way to not do anything about it. But I think whatever she tried to improve didn’t work because Kate is simply not interested in doing the work. It seems that doing such work doesn’t make any sense to her.

I am scared of giving public speeches, too. But I do the work and I usually get more interested in the topic while doing the work and then I give a speech / presentation whose content is usually much better than its delivery 😉

I don’t like stupid or ill-educated kings and queens, (my country got rid of its monarchy). But stupidity and lack of education can be partly compensated with good advisors and interest and hard work. Some of our kings did exactly that. Some of Britains better kings did that, too.
But a king or queen who isn’t even interested in the job? How is he or she ever going to do it? Neither Kate nor Will are interested in anything except royal perks. What kind of royal couple are they going to be?

      • BLewis1776 says:

Yes, like you said and I agree it is hard to imagine she has not received any help. Wasn’t she going through “Princess classes”? They as a couple and individually do lack any sort of interests, they are pretty boring, but so is Charles and he does lots of work with different initiatives. They just don’t seem to understand that their role is not just “being royal” that could have got them a pass a hundred years ago but today the financial side of keeping a royal family is much more of an issue. If the British public do not get a good return on their investment in the Royal family is it worth it just to pay for over-indulgent, spoiled adults to take unrelenting holidays and live in multiple mansions across the country. It just doesn’t make logical sense that if they are not fulfilling their part that those funds be used for the “commonwealth”. Imagine how much the money that goes to support that one family (a # that the public does not know the exact sum of) could be used for the benefit of the country. And I don’t want to hear one word that the Royal family is good for tourism that is bullshit. Anyway, I agree there is going to be a reckoning for them when and if they ever become King and Queen-consort.

    • Lady D says:

There is an organization here in Canada called Toast Masters and I’m pretty sure it’s in the States too. They teach you, for a nominal fee, the art of public speaking and apparently how to gesture appropriately while speaking. You can tell when some TV personalities have gotten too invested in TM when they are speaking and their hands have a gesture to accompany every other word they say.
When you first join, you are asked to speak about yourself for two minutes to the group. I wonder what Kate would say for two minutes off the cuff? Could she handle speaking without looking down at notes?

      • Shirleygail says:

Proud Toastmaster here, though a little lapsed this last year. It’s an international organization. And it can be very helpful, in a truly supportive environment. I also wish a couple of our preachers would go, too, in truth! Catherine is baffling to me. How does she justify herself when she goes to bed each night? Oh, I’m me and you’re not? Yikes.

    • cindyp says:

Your absolutely right. I’m not a natural public speaker either but had to get better at as part of my job. It’s a lot easier when you know what you’re talking about which she obviously doesn’t.

  19. Maria says:

I think she is very nervous public speaker. She looked as though she was struggling. After six years you think she would be more used to it. She should do more engagements on her own, instead of always having Willy looking over her shoulder. Her engagement interview was awful, her accent seemed so fake. I heard Pippa give an interview, and she sounded ok. Waity seems to really be uncomfortable in her work. I don’t know how well-prepared for the job she was because as Waity all she did was not work, shop and fall out of bars.

    • Disco Dancer says:

I think Katie Keen is just uncomfortable when seen working- even the minimal work that she has to do. She is just lazy and has no interest beyond her own little royal self (don’t think she even takes much interest in her kids, except for photo ops. Charlotte ignores her mother completely and George looks unhappy and anxious, from the pics and videos I’ve seen). Also, I suspect there’s inherent selfishness in there too, in that she feels no sense of giving back to others.

  20. IMO says:

Do you people think that some countries will leave the Commonwealth after TQ’s death?

    • LAK says:

The Commonwealth is not dependant on HM to hold it together. Her death won’t make a difference to it beyond shenanigans over who will head it up next.

That said, i think some, if not all the realms, will break away from the UK after HM dies.

      • Kitty says:

LAK, how bad would it be if the Commonwealth realms left one by one causing a domino affect be to the U.K. And monarchy?

I have gone back to university in order to shift to an Academic career and the first thing you do is being thrown into endless presentations of your research (there is even a 3 min presentation contest). In a year I have improved much more than this idiot in 6 years – and mind you, I already participated in conferences and whatnot. But I thought I had to improve and to train and to gain more knowledge. I do not have the means to have a pr team teaching me how to present myself and I do it, we all do it.
I have seen dyslexic colleagues do better. One colleague in particular suffers from anxiety and trembles a bit while talking but she is so passionate that no one cares and she gets better after the first minute or so.
Here there is no passion. This is a pathetic waste of time for the poor people who actually work and care with mental heath.
Why do we need to endure this woman who is more concerned with sounding posh than caring about “her” causes?

That dress should be burnt in a ceremonial fire. Truly hideous!

  24. TryingToThink says:

    Her speaking problem is this

after each phrase she her voice goes down which it shouldnt and she makes a break that is too long. Therefore her speech is stakkato_like and she fails to give meaning through proper intonation. She fails to emphasize properly. Likely this way of speaking happens because she is reading the entire speech from her notes.

Sightly off topic but the Fail has an article on Rebecca Deacon, who got married this weekend. Its interesting in that it refers to Rebecca as Kate’s FORMER private sec who left earlier this year. I thought she was going to be there until the summer. Hmmm.

    She looked a lovely bride.

    • The Original Mia says:

She looked really good. Her happiness radiated.

The Fail and facts are strangers, unless Rebecca opted to bolt early.

    “…what it means to become a MOTHA…”

OMG I can’t even listen to any more… ROFL

  27. Skylark says:

I don’t think the delivery is that bad. Yes, she shouldn’t, at this stage, have to rely so heavily on written speeches and yes, the head bobbing up and down is distracting and yes, she does seem very self-conscious, but it’s certainly better than other speeches I’ve watched of hers.

  28. L84Tea says:

I think she sounds absolutely terrified. You can hear the anxiety and fear in her pronunciations.

  29. Jeesie says:

It’s so painful watching her speeches. The long pauses are just ridiculous. If you’re talking for an hour or more, sure, sometimes you’ll need a moment, but having pauses like this is such a short little statement is just pathetic. At the very least you’d think she could get through each sentence before taking a few seconds instead of awkwardly stopping part-way through. She already sounds weirdly disconnected from every word she says, and this doesn’t help.

The accent is so terrible too. She doesn’t sound posh, she sounds slow. It’s so obvious 99% of her energy goes into the accent, and to make matters worse it’s not even good or consistent.

  30. Margaret says:

If I was a Tuvaluan, I think I might feel insulted. What on earth has she ever done for Tuvalu? The woman has been in the RF for six years now but hardly ever works and when she does she does a pathetic job of it. She seems incapable of doing much more than buying coat-dresses and getting hair extensions. When she reads one of her speeches she does it so poorly you’d think it was the first time she’d seen it, and it’s hard to understand what she’s saying because of that bunged-on posh accent. I can’t help thinking someone has put pressure on HM to give Kate some sort of gong, so she has scratched around to find one that is fairly low on the scale and Tuvalu drew the short straw. Or perhaps it’s because this island nation is likely to sink under the ocean soon due to the effects of global warming and disappear, and HM has a more mischievous sense of humour than I have ever given her credit for.

  31. LaMaitresse says:

There’s having a cut glass accent, and then having a cut glass three sheets to the wind put on accent. Waity looks just like her portrait here, and makes the late Princess Margaret’s voice sound almost common. Does she not realize that this sort of nonsense makes most Brits giggle at her lack of humility?

  32. PettyRiperton says:

*Sigh* Once the queen kicks the bucket they need to do away with this family once and for all. This woman doesn’t care none of the “young royals” do. There is no good reason to keep funding these people. It’s 2017 it’s ok to remember the Kings and Queens of the past but it’s time to move on they are pointless figureheads.
