The first trailer for ‘Thor: Ragnarok’ is here and it looks like silly, campy fun?

The first trailer for Thor: Ragnarok is here and man am I already tired of double-checking the spelling on “Ragnarok.” Last year, Marvel brought in director Taika Waititi to freshen up a frankly stale Thor franchise. I mean, the Thor franchise still made money, but I think fan-boys generally felt like the Thor franchise was the least interesting franchise, and that this, the third stand-alone Thor movie would need an infusion of fresh blood and better ideas. Natalie Portman was jettisoned, Tom Hiddleston’s Loki was brought back and Cate Blanchett was brought in as the new villain. And the result is… something that looks more like Guardians of the Galaxy, right?

Part of me likes that this feels lighter and more fun. One criticism lodged at Marvel films – and DC films too – is that they take themselves too seriously and there’s too much gloom and doom. This seems like a feverish fan-boy dream about what would happen if Thor fought the Hulk. It looks campy, silly, sort of dumb and entirely pleasurable. I think they’re even letting Chris Hemsworth “act” a little bit. He’s not just going to stand around and pout.

So, are you into this? Will you just be seeing it for Loki? For Cate Blanchett? For Tessa Thompson, who may or may not have some kind of romantic entanglement with Thor?

Don’t most people see these for Loki? That’s what the critics say.

    • This. Looks. AWESOME.

    • Lurker says:

I didn’t think that Tom Hiddleston is big enough to draw millions of people, and Loki as a character is hit or miss in the comics.

I’m inclined to think that people go see these movies based on word of mouth, trailers, and escapism. Also, Marvel has a solid reputation at this point.

      • third ginger says:

Loki, not necessarily Hiddleston, IS the major draw. Read reviews for THE DARK WORLD. No need to see the movie because it is not very good. The Loki character is considered The MCU’s only good villain. I am sorry to say I do not know the comics.

      • MI6 says:

        Nope. Wrong. Sorry.
        #TeamLoki

      • madly says:

Don’t tell that to Hall H…

      • third ginger says:

Hall H, indeed! You know your show business!!

      • Lightpurple says:

@Lurker, when I first saw the teaser trailer for TDW in the theater, the audience burst into cheers when Loki appeared to purr “when do we start?” Loki is one of the most popular characters in the MCU.

      • Tanya says:

I sat through two boring Thor movies for…

        wait for it…

        Loki

    • V4Real says:

I think the author forgot that Thor already fought the Hulk in The Avengers. I’m looking forward to this because I think they strayed away from the Ragnarok comic book version a bit. Wasn’t Thor pursumed dead or in limbo around this time and Stark and Reed created a clone of Thor to help fight in Civil War. Ragnarok first appeared during Civil War and marked the return of the Real Thor.

    • marshmellow says:

      I’ll see it for Thor.

Loki was fun in Thor and The Avengers, but I’m getting kind of sick of him. Yeah, he’s the most interesting Marvel villain by far, and that’s never going to change if they keep giving him all the screen time instead of trying to develop other characters. Like Thanos. When is Thanos going to become a main villain?

      • delphi says:

If things go the way it looks like they will, Thanos is going to be the big villain after this point. Infinity Wars, ahoy!!!!

      • Lightpurple says:

There have been about 14 MCU films now and Loki has been in just 3 of them and he wasn’t the villain in TDW. I don’t think he’s the villain in this one either. Thanos probably reappears in GOTG next month since two of his daughters are in it. So far, the most notable villains in the MCU have been Loki and Bucky, two characters who aren’t always villainous and both portrayed by actors who were pretty much unknown when they were initially cast as opposed to the more famous actors who have played villains that aren’t as memorable like Jeff Bridges, Tim Roth, Mickey Rourke, Hugo Weaving, Toby Jones, Sam Rockwell, Rebecca Hall, Guy Pearce, Chris Eccleston, Lee Pace, Corey Stall, Daniel Bruhl & James Spader. I have a particular fondness for the performances of Ben Kingsley and Robert Redford but not sure many remember them.

      • marshmellow says:

Ooh, that’s good. I’m really looking forward to Thanos, but also a little nervous about how they’ll handle him.

I think I’m more sick of Loki’s fanbase than of Loki himself. His fans tend to treat him like this poor, misunderstood soul despite the fact that he’s gleefully murdered innocent people and tried to enslave Midgard simply because the Allfather wasn’t giving him enough attention.

      • Veronica says:

Once Loki became the straight up “villain,” he stopped being as interesting – which is fine, but it’s a shame he took up so much of the second movie because Thor is the one who’s actually facing the more complicated conflict of loyalties.

    • Bread and Circuses says:

Usually, yes, but Cate looks like she’s going to eat up all Loki’s fans without even trying; she looks AWESOME in this.

All shall love Gothladriel and despair. 🙂

  2. Mia4s says:

Looks silly but that’s fine. It’s not going to appeal to any but the already converted though. *shrug*

    • third ginger says:

I’m 64 and love MARVEL. The casting is always fascinating. I love all the “fancy” Shakespearean actors putting their stamp on the characters [the “SIRS” Mckellan and Stewart are divine.]

      • Beth says:

I’m 38 and love Marvel too. Incredible Hulk has always been my favorite until Deadpool. Slept in Marvel’s pj’s last night. Marvel characters are amazing

      • bleu_moon says:

Yeah, there’s no way in hell I’m telling you my real age *coughover40nowcough* but I love Marvel too. Thankful my son does as well, because my husband has no use for it.

      • third ginger says:

bleu moon, my husband never like Marvel either until DR. STRANGE. I had a baby at 40. You are young!!

    • Mia4s says:

I’m not sure what your ages have to do with anything? You’re the already converted, they’re looking for a bigger audience. Thor’s been the least successful of the core Avengers in standalones (both financially and critically), so they are trying a new approach. I just mean that from that trailer I really don’t see anyone going “oh well NOW I am into it”. Maybe if reviews are great. *Shrug*

Interesting to note Marvel has never made it over $400 million domestic or a billion worldwide without RDJ. That’s why he gets private island money. It will be very interesting when he eventually steps down.

      • third ginger says:

We were just having fun about the age range of Marvel fans, I think. I admire your box office knowledge. I teach a film class. Logically speaking, wouldn’t a thread about a Marvel film be full of Marvel fans?

      • Beth says:

We’re saying it’s not just kids that are Marvel fans. Grown-ups love it just as much. My nephew calls me a Marvel addict because of all the Marvel movies, shirts,pj’s, cups, blankets, etc. that I have at my age. Can’t wait to see this movie and talk about it with all the other grown-up fans here

  3. shelly says:

I’ll be watching for Loki, and Cate Blanchett…

  4. Laura says:

It looks exactly like Guardians of the Galaxy – loud, neon and dumb.

    Pass.

  5. MissMerry says:

Waititi is a great director, I would give this a chance on a cheap-ticket-Tuesday at my local theater for him.

I do like Thor’s comics so hopefully this movie is more fun than superhero movies lately and the story is still good enough. It’s just soooo stale at this point, the whole superhero thing that is…

    • Down and Out says:

+1 for Taika Waititi. I loved What We Do in the Shadows & Hunt for the Wilderpeople.

      • antipodean says:

@Down and Out, I love Waititi’s quirky style as well. What we Do in the Shadows, and Hunt for the Wilderpeople were both hilarious. Sam Neill was wonderful in Wilderpeople, and the little chap was excellent as well. I would love to see Waititi’s star rise even further, he has a unique vision that deserves a wider audience.

      • Detritus says:

What we do in the shadows was the best. I loved that movie. More of Taika please

  6. S says:

Have to admit this looks kind of awesome. Chris Hemsworth’s comedic chops really are underrated. I think not taking themselves too seriously is why Marvel films far out-earn DC.

It’s superhero, comic book nonsense … It SHOULD be fun and a tad frivolous. That’s a feature; not a bug.

    • OhDear says:

Wonder why he doesn’t do more comedies (has he even done one before)?

      • third ginger says:

        He was funny in GHOSTBUSTERS.

      • Lightpurple says:

        Ghostbusters and Vacation.

      • S says:

Yeah, and Vacation was insultingly awful. Hemsworth’s role was the only sorta funny thing in it (parts of his performance, anyway), but he really stole the show in Ghostbusters which, while far from great, wasn’t nearly as bad as the critics made it seem. Either that, or because of all the negative press, when I finally did watch it once it made its way to cable, it seemed better because my expectations were so low going in. Probably 6 of one …

      • OhDear says:

Right, forgot he was in Ghostbusters!

      • Lightpurple says:

And for me, apart from the visual effects, his one minute bit at the end of Dr. Strange was the best thing in the film.

      • L84Tea says:

He was pretty damn funny on SNL too.

  7. spidey says:

Why has Thor got two red stripes down his face?

And of course we are all here for Loki.

Talking of whom – Skull Island box office $534m and still rising. 🙂

    • third ginger says:

Hello, Dear. My little girl and I are down for Marvel, but the only one Mr.third likes is Dr. Strange. I tell my family that every “serious” British actor will eventually have a franchise. Except for Sir DDL.

      • spidey says:

Hello to you too. I’m down for Loki, didn’t watch Age of Ultron, though I might try to find it. Just because our bodies are ageing, doesn’t mean our minds are -growing up is optional!

The only people who knock franchises are snobs – it takes all sorts thank goodness.

    • M4lificent says:

I say it every time there is a Hiddleston posting — he’s only hot when he’s Loki!

    • Laura says:

Why are you bringing up that Kong movie? He was the worst part of it.

      • third ginger says:

Good box office helps Tom and Brie Larson. Of course, their characters were not developed. Jon C. Reilly stole the movie.

      • NotSoSocialButterfy says:

John C. Reilly steals EVERY movie!!

      • spidey says:

We get it Laura – you don’t like him, we do. But that’s ok.

      • Lightpurple says:

And Reilly made up most of his own lines on the spot while filming Kong. The other actors had no idea what to expect from him.

      • Beth says:

Hey @laura, if you don’t like him, I’ll gladly take him! I’m pretty sure that I’m not the only one who would offer to take him

    • madly says:

Which means that Kong just earned more money than Godzilla that everyone said it couldn’t beat.

  8. Her H!gn3ss says:

it does look WAY too much like GOTG

  9. jinni says:

The only reason I am giving this a chance is because of the director. I have seen and loved the things he has done before so I will see what he does with this film. Otherwise I would not give this thing money because the Thor movies have been disappointment after disappointment.

  10. akua says:

    lol, am sooo watching it

  11. ncboudicca says:

Nobody told me there would be JEFF GOLDBLUM.

  12. Lindy79 says:

I’m here for the campy fun in all honesty, the thing that does my nut in about the DC movies is the lack of humour or self deprevation in them. I get that’s not for everyone though.

Loving the very 80’s font on the titles

can they please get rid of Loki’s mullet please? Having it flapping out of the back of his helmet like black loo roll stuck to the sole of your shoe is very off putting.

  13. QQ says:

IDK that Tessa Glory herself Thompson OR Ageless Kate Blanchet or Immigrant song will get me to see this.. ( Unless BF is pressed – which he never is for this one- but I call the Thor Movies “The Wig Commercials of Superhero Franchises”)

    • third ginger says:

QQ. You kill me. I spit my salt-free chips. Yes, both boys’ hair got progressively longer in each film up until this “short look” for young Mr. Hemsworth.

I have to tell you that I’m an old lady with a fondness for Tom H. Not so my daughter. She’s a gorgeous little gay girl who still has an eye for the gentlemen. She thinks Hiddleston is too skinny. Her favorite: Jason Mamoa.

      • QQ says:

Not even that The WIGS on Anthony Hopkins and ,… Just Pretty much everyone in Magictown… that’s really all I could give the Thor Movies.. AMAZING Wigs/Hair/Tracks/Lacefronts and the Like

  14. NotSoSocialButterfy says:

Well!! I don’t usually go in for this type of film, but The Immigrant Song got me a little excited! Cate Blanchett looks like an excellent villain, and the chick from Westworld looked like another well cast force of evil.. Then Tom Hiddleston. I laughed aloud at his dagger toss, and thought, “One of these things is not like the other, one of these things just doesn’t belong…”

I will avoid him whenever possible. To me, he is just so unlikeable.

    • spidey says:

You could be in a minority here. 🙂

      Which is fine.

      • NotSoSocialButterfy says:

        I do realize that!

      • SilverUnicorn says:

Nope, not minority. It’s just that many of us avoid to comment on Hiddleston’s threads, for obvious reasons…..

I am a Marvel fan, so I will see this despite Hiddleston (plus I have to admit he does a good job as Loki)

    • third ginger says:

What have you seen him in?

      • spidey says:

presume that was aimed at NSSB?

      • NotSoSocialButterfy says:

You won’t like this answer, and may argue the “how can you say you dislike it if you haven’t tried it” angle, but that is my point. I have seen him in a couple interviews and there’s just something in the way he presents himself- I feel he sometimes vacillates among the “Oh, shucks, little ole me?”/ try- hard / arrogance that he tries to stifle with interviewers- which is unappealing to me. It is just that simple.
If he floats your boat, fantastic! More power to you!! Taste is subjective.

      • third ginger says:

No argument from me. I hate Miles Teller and have seen him in only one film.

      • third ginger says:

NSSB, now I’m worried you might love Miles Teller. If so, I apologize.

      • SilverUnicorn says:

Not necessarily seeing him in more movies can lead someone to liking him… for me it was just the opposite!!! (I even bored myself to death with Archipelago lol)

      • third ginger says:

Agree that one is like watching paint dry. By the way, I tried to make it clear I totally understand not liking an actor. Nothing can make me like Robert Pattinson. I am a generally polite old lady, and I would rather comment on those I admire. My favorite for 30 years is Daniel Day-Lewis.

      • Lightpurple says:

If people don’t like an actor, they just don’t like him and they usually have reasons. It won’t matter what they’ve seen. I’ve had dozens of people here tell me I just need to see this or that work of an actor I don’t like and I’ll be smitten when I’ve usually seen the work and it confirmed the very reasons I didn’t like the actor in the first place.

BTW Archipelago IS like watching paint dry. A dull, flat, greenish-grey paint with a chalky texture. And Exhibition is boredom defined with the only interesting segment being the unscripted moment when Tom realizes he is too tall for the elevator

      • NotSoSocialButterfy says:

        @thirdginger,

lol, no worries- if Miles Teller is who I think he is ( quick google… Yeesh! I was right), no, I do not like to rest eyes on his rat-like, charisma-vacuum face, so don’t recall any film in which he played any part that I may have seen!!

    • Cranberry says:

      @NSSB

Of course everyone will like and dislike who ever they wish, and taste is subjective. But the idea that “he is just so unlikable” is pretty counter to what many people that have met or worked with him say, as well as what many like me have seen in interviews/videos over the years. In fact it’s quite the opposite of his reputation which is usually ” an extremely likable guy” even if you don’t relate to him. Not saying his impression on some is always a stellar or positive one, and maybe I’m splitting hairs, but I’d never call him “just so unlikable”.

  15. Lightpurple says:

    My favorite Zeppelin song!

ETA Yes, I will be there opening night for the whole IMAX 3D effect. Thor is my favorite of the MCU franchises. Cate looks badass in this, far more so than she did in Indiana Jones. Tessa’s character looks like she may bring something interesting. CHemboy’s comedic talents have never been put to their full use and he does have great comic timing. And Loki & Heimdall!

    • NotSoSocialButterfy says:

      Yaaaaaasssss!!!

    • Digital Unicorn (aka Betti) says:

Mine too but it gets overused in movie trailers.

    • Nicole says:

Totally agree about Hemsworth’s comedic timing. They definitely should put it to more use more often. He’s got some great instincts on that front.
Its what sets him apart from his brother. Otherwise they both have limited range.

  16. third ginger says:

Highly recommend this director’s WHAT WE DO IN THE SHADOWS and HUNT FOR THE WILDERPEOPLE.

  17. TheOtherOne says:

    I. Can. Not. Wait.

  18. Laura says:

It’s so nice how everyone here creams themselves over Marvel movies yet frets about politics in the other posts. So you’re completely unaware that the CEO of Marvel is one of Trump’s BFFs and every dollar you give Marvel helps support that agenda? Glad to see people putting their money where their mouth (typing fingers) is….

    • spidey says:

Whilst I sympathise, if you took that to its conclusion life could get very complicated.

Are we supposed to check everything out before we buy?

      • Laura says:

Movies are paid for with disposable income. Your money and choosing where to spend it is the only real voice you have in this world. You can either use that voice or just continue to contribute to the shit.

      • third ginger says:

Money is the only real voice? Are you from a country with no democratic elections?

    • S says:

If I only purchased products, services and entertainment from people and corporations who align 100% with my political beliefs I’d be living in a cave, weaving my own yarn to make clothing and entertaining my family only via self-written and produced puppet shows.

While there are some actors/directors whose personal misdeeds are so offensive and egregious I can no longer experience their art without being completely distracted by the people who made it, for the most part I live my life with the idea that I can separate art from the artists and products from their producers.

Sure, I sometimes make consumer decisions based on my own strongly-held moral beliefs, selecting one company or product over another for reasons beyond the financial, but, generally I, like most Americans, don’t have the luxury or deep resources required to make my every daily purchase a political statement. I do my best to support causes and charitable organizations I feel strongly about, and try not to sweat the small stuff because turning every single consumption decision into an idealogical statement is walking through a minefield that leads to madness.

    • Beth says:

My parents and some of my friends are unfortunately Trump supporters. If I totally ignored and avoided them all, what would my life be? I despise Trump, but I’m not going to let him ruin how I care and love the people in my life or enjoying movies, etc.

      • dave says:

St Laura has spoken – Beth do as you are told immediately!!

      • Beth says:

Yes Laura. I will always love them. I’m not so mean that I would kick them out of my life! That’s awful. There’s more to life than holding that against them forever. Some of my family and friends who aren’t white, a couple are gay and a few are disabled, and none are terrible people but unfortunately voted for Trump. I’m a disabled woman who didn’t and would never ever vote for Trump. My black and disabled boyfriend tells me everyday that we should live our lives and don’t let Trump ruin who we are. He voted for Hillary. Live your life, don’t let a jerk like Trump make you unhappy forever

      • madly says:

You mean you are incapable of being emotionally and intellectually mature enough to love people who disagree with you on issues? Poor Laura.

      • Lightpurple says:

Is she supposed to disown her parents?

      • Miss Jupitero says:

My mother voted for Trump. I love her, she gave me life, she is a wonderful Mom– but she is also so very wrong about so many things. No, I am not going to kick her out of my life. I am hoping actually that maybe I will be a good influence on her (as I often am).

    • applepie says:

Only when it suits @Laura! 😉

    • Mal says:

      Um, no. LOL.

    • Lurker says:

I assume you’re referring to Ike Perlmutter? Marvel Studios have been trying to oust him for years, and his role in the MCU is minimal.

Also, while he himself may support Trump personally, there is no evidence at all that Marvel Studios or the MCU have contributed to his campaign, or support him financially. So no, my tenner on a cinema ticket does not support that agenda.

      • third ginger says:

Thanks for the comment. Also, boycotting Marvel would also mean boycotting a hero of mine and my daughter’s [who happens to be gay] Sir Ian Mckellan is one of the great LGBT role models and activists. He can have my money any time!

      • Sigh says:

Yeah, Perlmutter has less than nothing to do with the MCU. It’s Horn, Feige and Arad. Plus, isn’t Marvel Studios under the Disney Entertainment umbrella and completely separated from the Marvel Company anyway?

      • jetlagged says:

@Sigh – Yes, Marvel Entertainment (comics/television) is now a separate entity from Marvel Studios (films) – but both are under the Disney umbrella. I think Ike is Chairman of Marvel Entertainment only, but he also became a very large shareholder in Disney as a result of the sale of Marvel to The Mouse, so if Disney as a whole does well, Ike definitely profits.

@Laura, if you are serious about a boycott, then by your own logic it would have to include every Disney product out there including those of its subsidiaries – Pixar Studios, Lucasfilm (Star Wars), the ABC Network and ESPN among many others. Oh, and the Muppets.

      • Sigh says:

@jetlagged- that’s so funny to me given the numerous times Ike has assisted with/been responsible for bankrupting Marvel and had to go to court over it. You’d think they’d want him gone.

      • jetlagged says:

He is a piece of work, the more I read about him the more I cringed. But he may own so much of the company they can’t get rid of him even if they wanted to.

    • Miss Jupitero says:

If I subjected everything I partake in to a purity test, I would have to live in a cave someplace. Life is too short.

I also feel it is a bad idea in general to go through life expecting everyone to feel as you do on every topic. As it stands, I’m so far left in my political beliefs I am hardly even on the American map; I assume that most people I meet are going to have different things to say. I’m cool with that.

I save my boycotting for where it really counts and has an impact, and for really hideous people who are beyond the pale hideous (Woody Allen and Roman Polanski movies are not on my menu). I also think it is really important when you take any political action to have a specific goal in mind. What outcome do you hope to achieve? If the Marvel CEO used Marvel to support some kind of specific political action I could say that I will boycott them until stop doing that specific thing. This is effective. It’s a reachable goal. The CEO isn’t going to disappear, but you can influence his decisions if you are very focused and know what you want.

    • Lightpurple says:

Laura, have you considered posting on one of the political threads? Have a lovely day.

      • shelly says:

Lol Lightpurple, maybe the definition of Godwin’s law should be changed and Hitler replaced by Trump.

Then people like Laura who want to use a rather tenuous connection to a mad politician, to try and prove a point, can take the moral high ground with impunity.

Instead of admitting the only reason for her anger is a dislike of an Actor who she’s never met, never will meet, and who doesn’t know she exists.

      • Elle says:

@shelly. +1000. I also wonder what angelic internet service provider, laptop maker, and/or smartphone corporation Laura is using to stay so saintly and disconnected from evil.

  19. dodgy says:

It looks like a mashup between Flash Gordon and World War Hulk. I’m in.

  20. piki says:

duh, for Loki. He is the main star of thor franchise.

  21. Insomniac says:

I’ll definitely be seeing it, because I have insane love for Taika Waititi.

(And also because that “YES! We know each other!” line made me LOL.)

    • Lightpurple says:

We know each other from WORK!

      • spidey says:

Is there going to be another Hulksmash? And if so will Thor lie there making that funny little noise?

      • third ginger says:

Did you catch Goldblum’s expression? I am expecting this to be hilarious. THE DARK WORLD was pretty bad. Critics wanted to make Loki the center of the story because he has all the best lines. This interesting director seems to have decided everyone should have some good lines.

      • dave says:

@ TG Alan Taylor the director of TDW was most unhappy with the editing of the film. He made it quite clear on the promo tour that the finished article wasn’t down to him.

  22. piki says:

@spodey nice! I hope SI earns even more. 😀

  23. Incredulous says:

Skurge (Karl Urban) is gonna stand at Gjallerbru and I am gonna be 8 years old again and crying like a babby.

    • Lightpurple says:

Oh God, I forgot he was in this too. This is going to be epic.

And Sam Neill. There has got to be a Jurassic Park reference between him and Goldblum.

      • oliphant says:

Sam Neill!!!! i did not know that. love him!!!

      • third ginger says:

Ladies [or gents] see the young Sam Neill in MY BRILLIANT CAREER, if you have not already.

      • msd says:

Oh Sam Neill is gorgeous in My Brilliant Career. Not that he isn’t a handsome older guy now but young Sam Neill …phwoar.

Taika’s jammed this full of Kiwis and Aussies, which is probably what Thor needs because let’s face it, this franchise does not lend itself to dark and serious.

See Sam Neill in Reilly, Ace of Spies. Sigh.

    • M.A.F. says:

I knew that Karl Urban but I wasn’t sure!

Are the Warriors 3 & Sif out?

  24. ShinyGrenade says:

I will see it as I loved Taika Waititi (Boy, What we do in the Shadows, Hunt for the Wilder People).
I’m very curious what he will have done with Thor.

And if you have not seen the great Hunt for the Wilder People, so check it out!

    • Nicky says:

agree. Also have a real soft spot for Eagle vs Shark, one of my favourites. This Thor film looks really good.

  25. Ruyana says:

I really hate Thor’s “new look”. Ugh. They un-handsomed him.

  26. emily25 says:

I just had an orgasm watching Loki flipping knives. There you have your answer.

  27. Juniper says:

Someone is taking a page from Guardians…. and damn if I just might actually watch it.
And come on…. who wouldn’t be rooting for the baddie if it’s Blanchett looking like that?

  28. BeachGirl says:

All I have to say is Zeppelin, Cate, Taika, and Loki!! Momma’ home!!!!!

  29. Ollie says:

Yep to me the Thor movies are the weakest “solo Avenger movies”. The third one seems unnecessary.
I watched the first one because of Kenneth Branagh. Then i watched because of Loki like most people. Poor Hemsworth-Thor is just so lame as lead… always the bridesmaid never the bride.

And now? They did the same as they did with the Huntsman 2 movie. They hired a bunch of strong women to distract from lame blondie. Let’s see if it works this time.
Personally i would rather see a brothers Thor&Loki story than whatever they try here

    • mikajoe says:

@ollie +1 to everything. I don’t like hulk here, I mean hulk is my 2nd favourite mcu (No 1 is Loki of course) chatacter, but he seems so unnecessary here. I would rather see how Loki dethroned odin, ir how hella got ahold on to asgard. hulk just feels like a sore thumb. and I feel sorry for thor.

  30. Miss Jupitero says:

Looks fun and I love the director, but I will let this one go until it is streaming. I regret not seeing Doctor Strange 3D though. That must have been amazing.

  31. Veronica says:

I’m actually kind of excited for it – Thor isn’t getting handled the way he should have all along, and I’m down with it. Cate Blanchett looks AMAZING.

  32. Skylark says:

The trailer was kind of funny. Not really my thing but if it turns up on some channel or service I’m subscribed to, I’d possibly give it a watch. But it would be more for Cate B and Jeff B than anything else.

  33. Ayra. says:

I’m here for it, I found myself really enjoying the trailer and I usually don’t watch Thor movies, not even for Loki.
Hell, the trailer is much better than Justice League’s, how shocking is that?

  34. MI6 says:

    EPIC.
    That is all.
    Is it November 3rd yet?

  35. Donna says:

This seems fun and I am here for Tessa Thompson who deserved better from Veronica Mars ( and I have rooted for since).

  36. Guest says:

Sometimes I hate Marvel. They never risk to do darker movies. Ragnarok is the end of everything. It should have been dark, depressing and full of rage. Not silly. This looks like GOTG. Don’t get me wrong, I will watch the movie even if I do think that Hemsworth is weak. But I will only watch it because of Blanchett and Loki. Like Hiddles or not but he is amazing as Loki. His scenes in Thor TDW were just great to watch. Blanchett looks like a real villian kicking some asses. Just confused about the lightness of the movie.
Edit: just realized that Hiddleston is sitting next to Goldblum in the arena. Wtf is Loki doing there?

    • mikajoe says:

@guest EXACTLY!!! Like wth? why is he there? why is he not helping thor or is he helpinh thor by not doing anuthing? man this guy is hard to define.

    • Grace says:

Count me in for brooding. Ragnarok in my language is literally the end of all gods. I so hoped for a dark, twisted epic tale full of regrets and tragedies. Now I feel robbed and Loki has extra silly horns. *sigh* Never mind. November is still half a year away.
My take on the trailer is that Loki is complicit in getting Thor into the arena. Or he is sitting there but no one can see him. We will know more when time draws closer, I suppose. Hard to know what is what given his two second presence.

  37. Jag says:

I’ll be watching for Thor – hate the short hair though – and Loki. Cate seems cool, too. I’m not sure about the campiness of it, but if Chris Hemsworth’s Thor is in it, I’ll watch it. lol

  38. mikajoe says:

of course for Loki. but I am crying for thor. they made him look like kevin the dumb blonde from GB. It works for gb but for ragnarok? nope. At least Loki seems alright. Hope the don’t butcher him either.

    • third ginger says:

I think i said this on another thread, but in actual Norse mythology, cutting someone’s hair symbolizes the loss of power. I think it has something to do with that. In that trailer Loki’s hair seems to have taken up all the product on set. LOL

  39. emma says:

Loki looked cuter with shorter hair and thor only looked good in tdw. Longer hair is for thor and shorter hair for Loki plz.
And wth? thor’s reaction to hulk turned me off. ugh humour is good but not this kind. It is supposed to be serious movie. your homeplanet is being destroyed, you don’t act like a clown. Looks like only Loki and hella are taking this seriously. I only saw cate in sinderella, and she was good. Hope hella would be able to at least keep up with Loki. That guy has a bad habit of scene stealing.

  40. emma says:

    *cinderella doh :p

  41. ValMoy99 says:

Idk about ya’ll but I am excited! Thor is one of my favorite Marvel trilogies after Captain America. . Plus Loki is back!

  42. Whyme says:

I had no idea Jeff Goldblum was in this! What a nice surprise! I’ve had a crush on him for years. Tenspeed and Brown Shoe anyone? Lol!

  43. megan says:

man internet is going nuts over Loki’s 1 second screen time. Not surprised though.

  44. Veeve says:

I have loved Loki since I was about 3 , with the original Marvel comics that were on TV. I love me some Tommy but the mere fact cate blanchett is in it I wont be going. I CANNOT stand her. Pity 🙁

  45. lily says:

lol Loki duh. Is there any other memorable villain mcu besides him? nope. And thanos is a joke. I laugh out loud when that purple clown tries or says something. Yeah, no can’t take a CGI villain seriously.

  46. Maria_ says:

wooooooowww!! hell yes , i´m in ,and ill be 40 this year :-D.
eternal love to Wolverine and Deadpool thou.

  47. piamia says:

cate B? yuck. I am gonna pass.

  48. spidey says:

Seeing that Loki pic at the top makes me think he should be riding a motorbike!

  49. Mannori says:

Absolutely YES! I’m not a big comic movie fan, because, well…I like stories…but I’m a fan of how sometimes they nailed it with the villains by casting good actors, thespians and the result is that they steal the movie of course. So I’m here for Cate and I hope she does better than her role on Indiana Jones, which was terrible, proving that good actors can deliver crap performances as well.

yes! so many of my favorite ice queens thespians are playing badass and interesting characters in blockbuster movies this season: Cate in Thor, Charlize Theron in Atomic Blonde (which I’m skeptical about but anyway) Robin Wright as General Antiope on Wonder Woman…that’s the best thing about the movies that are coming: women finally kick ass, and played by actress with real talent.
