Sandra Lee confirms: she ‘cannot tolerate or stomach’ Speaker Paul Ryan

Breast Cancer Research Foundation's Hot Pink Party

Last week, I covered the now simmering feud between Giada De Laurentiis and Nicole Kidman. It was pretty funny when they tried to cook together on The Ellen Show. In that story, I also mentioned that there was another celebrity-chef beef going down – apparently, Sandra Lee was very rude to Speaker Paul Ryan when they were both on the set of Fox & Friends a few weeks ago. Paul Ryan tried to join her on the cooking set and she basically told him to go away. Page Six reported the incident and I honestly thought they were trying to make a mountain out of a molehill, especially given that Sandra Lee is the official girlfriend of New York governor (and Democrat) Andrew Cuomo. But as it turns out, Sandra Lee really f–king hates Paul Ryan. Atta girl. She confirmed the story to Page Six and described her very specific hatred for Speaker Ryan.

After Page Six reported that Sandra Lee kicked House Speaker Paul Ryan out of her TV kitchen — she told us on Friday that she “cannot stomach” the pol.

“At first what occurred to me is that we are both from Wisconsin,” Lee told us after our report that she, the girlfriend of Gov. Andrew Cuomo, refused to let Ryan join her cooking segment on Fox News. “And I realized he is the one thing from Wisconsin that I cannot tolerate or stomach. I just do not stand for anything he stands for. I was so angry I was shaking, and I never had that experience before in my life or on any show. I love ‘Fox & Friends.’ That was the only time that happened to me. I do not get angry for too long. He left the set, and I was back to Sandra Lee.”

A source had told Page Six that “Ryan was on the segment before Sandra, and the hosts asked him to hang around for Sandra’s cooking feature . . . But in the break before her demo, she said to Ryan and some others there, ‘I need you to go away so I can collect my thoughts, prepare, and get ready for the segment.’ ”

Lee told us at the Breast Cancer Research Foundation’s Hot Pink Party, “I have been really surprised about the reaction . . . I think it is because I have never stated my opinion. Just because I chose not to state my opinion does not mean I do not have one. When it comes to health care or childhood hunger issues, I am not going to be quiet, tolerant or silent about my experiences or my convictions.”

[From Page Six]

Word. I mean, I hate Paul Ryan for so many reasons, I probably wouldn’t be able to narrow it down in an interview situation. But Sandra Lee was able to focus her revulsion on how Speaker Ryan has always dreamed of starving schoolchildren and killing off the poor and infirm. I hope Sandra Lee becomes much more politically active!

I don’t think much of her old cooking shows (drunk anyone?) but I applaud her for this!

      GET EM SANDRA

I am with her. The whole administration really chaps my hide but I reserve a special hatred for Speaker Ryan, who is smart enough to know better.

      • maisie says:

BRAVA. I’ve always thought she was a terrible cook and lifestyle maven, BUT she has eyes in her head and knows a weasel and a chiseler when she sees one. What I’m happiest about is that she didn’t suck it up, smile falsely and do the cooking segment with him – she told him (in a much more ladylike way than I would have) to eff off. Good on you, girl! This raises her so much in my estimation.

I think this should happen over and over again to Ryan, surely one of the most duplicitous and cruel GOP “leaders.” And now he’s lying about how he knew that Tr**p was on the take from Putin A YEAR AGO. He’s reprehensible – in thrall to giant corporations and willing to strip millions upon millions of middle class workers, seniors and children of healthcare to give his “donors” gigantic tax breaks. Beyond gross.

  2. Neelyo says:

Paul Ryan and I attended the same college around the same time, which I found out when he rose to prominence. The school was full of Alex P. Keaton knock offs so I’m not surprised they spawned a creature like Ryan.

    • minx says:

Ryan is really loathsome. He has always worked in government but is one of those government-hating GOP hypocrites.

      • Giddy says:

        Hateful Eddie Munster looking bastard.

      • adastraperaspera says:

And he lived off of social security payments as a kid. I think maybe some of that money paid for his college? I bet he has always resented that and wants to kill the system and pretend he has always been a rich preppy.

      • Who ARE These People? says:

From what I read, he came from an established upper-middle class family. His father died when he was about 15, and Ryan used the SS survivor benefits to help pay for college. His extended family kicked in plenty of money to help him in life and in politics. He didn’t exactly pull himself up by his bootstraps and there is no reason for him to have shame about an impoverished background because he, himself, was basically a well-off preppy himself. He’s just a snot-nosed bastard.

  3. minx says:

She really went up in my estimation. Good for her.

  4. adastraperaspera says:

I want to see her “Paul Ryan Halloween” theme table setting and drink her “AHCA Blood of the Innocents” cocktail!

  5. Reece says:

She has just (almost entirely) redeemed herself for the corn nut cake.

    • Giddy says:

The infamous Kwanzaa cake! It wasn’t just the corn nuts; it was the way she slathered on canned icing, then dumped the apple pie filling in the middle. It was so many things, and by the time she sprinkled the corn nuts around it was definitely the worst “cooking” segment ever. Which also made it the best. It’s the only one I watch several times a year for the laugh.

  6. cindy says:

God I hate him too. Really, I. hate. him. I don’t want to look at his face or his smirky little godlovesharlotseveniftheyusebirthcontrol expression. There is separation of church and state you as*hole.

  7. Nicole says:

Go Sandra. I also hate snug Paul Ryan. Frankly he also deserves a punch to the face

  8. D says:

Well at least her politics are better than her cooking.

  9. Molly says:

    Aunt Sandy FTW!

  10. pinetree13 says:

One of the many shames of this administration is there are so many awful people that any individual one isn’t getting the normal level of hate they would receive in a normal administration. Ryan is one of those people. He deserves SO MUCH MORE scorn than he gets.

I LOATHE THIS EVIL MAN! Also his argument against school lunches….WTF. Is he both inconceivably dumb AND evil!?!? I cannot believe he said that. I also cannot believe that who ever he said that too on the record didn’t punch him in his smug face right then and there.

WHAT THE H*LL IS WRONG WITH THIS GUY. Also how does he have such an important job?!?

    • Sadezilla says:

I want to respond to every single comment on this thread, because they are all true and correct, but I am responding here because ITA that Ryan doesn’t get as much hate as he should. One of my friends is a Ryan apologist (and also a McCain apologist, but though I think McCain needs to put his actions where his mouth is, I do think there is an actual human in there who at least in some way cares for the wellbeing of Americans), and it has actually kind of derailed our friendship. She once called him a “reasonable human being,” to which my brain replied, *record scratch noise*.

If you support Paul Ryan, to me that means you are only interested in your own well-being, and probably on the spectrum from willfully oblivious to outright contemptuous of the still-prevalent social injustices in our society. In my book, that does not make you a good or moral person. I am looking at my friend in a different light as I learn more about who she is today, as opposed to who she was in college.

    • holly hobby says:

It’s easy for him to say this since he will draw the same salary (adjusted to inflation) when he retires from Congress. He and his children will never be hungry. Well all I have to say is good fortune doesn’t run forever. Karma is a bitch.

  11. Aerohead21 says:

What bothers me is how so many people think that if you are poor or needing assistance it’s because you didn’t work hard enough or some other cause of your own doing. The truth is while there are people on this planet whose circumstances are their own doing, there are plenty of people who need the support of others because they are just another human being trying to make it by – no matter how hard they work. People look at it like, it’s my money why should I share it? Because you’re a human being and I’m a human being and it’s not a hand out…it’s an investment into the community to raise us all up.

I know that sounds socialist and/or communist but I’m not saying we need to even the playing field by making everyone pay into the system. I’m just saying that it’s not always about how hard you work. Sometimes life circumstances just suck major butt and GOD FORBID something terrible happen to someone fortunate and they need help…however I’ll be right there with a hand doing what I can to bring my community up. Sometimes that’s man hours, sometimes that’s money, sometimes it’s just a service we share because I can and am able to. Just pay it forward and give to others.

    • Who ARE These People? says:

It’s neither socialist nor communist to suggest that those of greater means pay more into the system. In communism, the government owns the means of production. The USA remains firmly capitalist, in which private owners own the means of the production. The current problem is that the private owners also own the government (not the other way around).

Many people are aspiring, however, to the social democratic model in which the government provides greater support to level the social and economic playing fields through subsidized higher education, access to health care, more family-friendly policies, more support during periods of unemployment etc. Making public schools (K-12) far less dependent on local property taxes (IE wealth, class and race segregation) would help a lot, too.

    • hogtowngooner says:

These Republicans who think poverty is a result of laziness really boil my blood. Nevermind that poverty AND wealth are typically generational, but no, it’s all YOUR fault that you’re a dirty poor. It’s taken that American individualist attitude and put it on steroids.

You’re sick? Sorry, no healthcare for you because the rich need another tax break. They REALLY need $31M, instead of having to make do with $30M. Nevermind my lifetime of taxpayer-funded healthcare. I earned that!!

You want job security? Sorry, we’ve decided unions are the DEVIL and you’re acting entitled for thinking such a thing should even exist. Nevermind my 6 year Senate term. That’s irrelevant because I worked hard to get where I am!

You want a better job, but can’t afford to quit your current one(s) for training or school? Too bad, those programs didn’t really help our rich buddies so they went bye-bye. Just be thankful you have one at all – you’re better off than most people!

You don’t make enough to put a roof over your head/food in your belly/gas in your car? Get a better job! I make $170k just by being a Senator and I’m doing just fine. You’re just bad at budgeting and having a minimum wage in keeping with market prices won’t change that!

Lost your job? You probably deserved it, so why should me and my rich friends help you out? Unemployment/welfare is for lazy people and it’s not fair to punish the rich for that!

Funny, the last guy who really did come from little and made something of himself was the black President they couldn’t stand.

    • Snowflake says:

Exactly. I had a customer whose husband has had a stroke. He went from being a healthy individual to being paralyzed. Last time I talked to the wife, she said the medical bills were so much. They couldn’t get assistance unless she divorced her husband so he would not show any assets. She said she could not do that, till death do us part and she would just try to make payments the best she could. They have insurance, she works for Blue Cross. So sad

  12. Lucy2 says:

I don’t follow any of these celebrity chefs, but good for her for kicking him out. I wouldn’t want him anywhere near me or trying to seem normal by horning in on a cooking segment either. He is a despicable creature.

  13. holly hobby says:

I actually read Sandra Lee’s bio and am not surprised that she disliked Ryan. She grew up poor and hungry. He’s going after things she believes in.

  14. paranormalgirl says:

I can now forgive the Hanukkah cake. Not yet ready to forgive the Kwanzaa cake, though.

  15. JenB says:

I really appreciate all the comments on here today. I just finished having a conversation with my dad (spoiler alert: yeah he voted for Trump.) He never voted before but after the ACA his healthcare costs skyrocketed for much less coverage. He is in good health and a man, obviously. But still, I get that it is frustrating and I wish we could just go to single payer for that and many other reasons. But he has this general conception that the world is full of so many lazy people scamming the system and not contributing. I think many men in his demographic have this way of thinking. I always argue the point that yes there are a SMALL amount of people who scam “the system” but it’s impossible to *completely* prevent this. And in the end it’s far more important to me that those in need are covered even if a few low life types take advantage of it.

    WOW to Sandra Lee!

  17. JackieJormpJomp says:

I thought I loved her because she was hokey as hell…I hate-watched her show.
This is a wrench in my knowledge of this woman and it’s amazing.
