Kate Hudson dons a wig after buzzing her head for a role

In a case of “hair today, gone tomorrow, back couple of days later,” actress Kate Hudson, who debuted a new buzz cut last week, was spotted in Los Angeles wearing a wig resembling her formerly long blonde locks.

The 38-year-old actress showed off her new ‘do on Instagram last week. She shaved her head for her latest role in the film Sister, directed by singer Sia. Kate posted a shot from the set last Wednesday with the caption, “Freedom” and called out Sia with the hashtag #OurBeautifulDirector. The “Chandelier” chanteuse-turned-filmmaker returned the love by posting the photo with the caption, “My girl @Katehudson, being a delight on set.” Not much is known about the film, which co-stars Sia’s video star Maddie Ziegler. The film’s screenplay is based on a short story the singer wrote eight years ago. I’m sure it will be “artsy.”

On Sunday, Kate showed off her short cut in a photo posted to Instagram taken while she was out riding dirt bikes with her boyfriend, musician Danny Fujikawa, and her 13-year-old son Ryder.

We at it again 🙌 #DirtBikeRyders

I don’t know about you, but she looks rather bad ass with the short hair. I could never pull it off (and I have long blonde hair currently), so I admire Kate’s commitment to her work. I’m sure this is just a temporary thing though. The minute Sister wraps, Kate’s going to let her locks grow back. You can be sure of that.

Kate also made headlines earlier this week by being part of one of the interweb’s most popular memes. Among the many (well-deserved) jokes that flooded social media after Monday’s announcement that Anthony Scaramucci was ousted as the White House communications director after only 10 days on the job, a meme surfaced featuring “the Mooch” and the Commander in Cheetos’ faces superimposed on Kate and Matthew McConaughey’s bodies from the poster from their 2003 movie How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days. Kate posted her own meme to Instagram with the caption, “Box office results are in! The #1 comedy in America!” Brava, Kate.

If I could pull it off, I would get a buzzcut or at least go short. I love short hair on women so much, unfortunately short hair does not love me in return. While Kate Hudson usually just gets a ‘meh’ from me, she looks stunning on that one picture with the buzzcut.

Same here, greenmonster – short hair absolutely detests me. Once, I was at a shopping centre, and impulsively (and very stupidly) walked into the trendy hair salon and asked for a short cut. After hours of tears and days of moaning, I didn’t leave the house for three months…On the other hand, my younger sister looks stunning with short hair, and yet, as she’s now an older woman, she’s wearing her hair really long. Last time I saw her, she had it almost black with that unflattering middle part. As vain as she is, I’m not nasty enough to tell her she’ll never look 25 again…

Not a fan of KH, but she looks great in what we can see of her buzzed head.

Having long hair isn’t about “trying to look 25”. I’m always surprised to hear women spouting this nonsense about other women. If YOU like short hair, wear it short, but don’t expect others to because they’ve reached a “certain age”. Older women can also be free to rock long hair or short hair. It should be a personal preference. Women are holding each other down with these statements, making it about age, when hair is simply hair.

        +1 Hennessy

        What a judgey comment, AnnaKist.

100% Hennessy! That said, I’ve noticed now that I’m in my mid-50s that longer hair isn’t my best look. I used to rock really long hair (I’ve got medium curly hair) and it looked great. Now, it seems to make my face look longer; like the age lines are more pronounced. I’ve been getting bobs, on occasion, or just below chin-length, and the shorter length really enhances my face. It’s long right now, though, cause I’m lazy. LOL

She’s not supposed to riding dirtbikes in her condition. She’s supposed to be pregnant with brad pitt’s twins according to a tabloid. Lol

  3. Giulia says:

She looks fantastic with the buzz cut. The wig just makes her look pedestrian.

  4. poorlittlerichgirl says:

She looks amazing with a shaved head! I would love to see her walking around in her daily life without the wig though. Just completely rocking it in all it’s glory. She could definitely pull it off.

    • Shijel says:

Yep, she’s got the face and the head shape. It’s hard at first, but it really brings out the striking features of your face, and is surprisingly versatile with all sorts of fashion.

It makes her look younger, strangely. What a cool look!

    She is beyond bland.

I came here to say the exact thing. It always seems like people try to make Kate Hudson happen, but to me there is just no there-there. Don’t know why but I find her over-rated.

Hair is a really personal thing. Other people love the way I look with short hair. I can’t stand it and hid under scarves and hats the last time I was foolish enough to experiment. I think we should leave Kate alone here. Jennifer Garner would probably look great in a miniskirt, and Angelina Jolie could definitely pull off fire engine red, but each woman is more comfortable with other styles. The same might be true of Kate.

  7. Shijel says:

I had a buzzcut! Looked good on me too, I got lucky with the nice skull shape. Loved it. Miss it. Maintaining it annoys though, and sometimes you just want variety but you’re nowhere near wealthy enough to even look at the cheapest wigs.

Kate’s also got a good head shape, she looks great with a buzz. So cool! Kind of really makes me wish to go back (but I won’t, not yet, like I said, I never really enjoyed having to constantly buzz it because I’ve got insane hair growth)

I’ll say this: it does make you take a hard look at yourself though. You’re no longer considered ‘universally attractive’. You’ve got no long hair to hide behind, and people will throw their prejudices at you. It was hard at first but I got used to it quickly and it was a good experience.

  8. NeoCleo says:

When I retire I am going totally buzzed head! I wear my hair short now and within days of my last day of work it all goes. I can’t wait.

  9. Rae says:

Those white drop crotch pants are the actual worst.
