Rihanna’s craziest fashion attempt: ‘A corset! I’d do it again… I’d wear it every day’

ELLE_October Rihanna Cover 2

Rihanna is going to be everywhere in the coming days and weeks. On Sunday, she’s showing her Fenty X Puma collection at New York Fashion Week. Her shows are always incredibly popular, and she has a good eye for the hot trends in athleisure and general clothes that people want to wear (or clothes people want to wear to look more like Rihanna). Rih is also launching her new global beauty collection, Fenty Beauty. I’m sure it will be big. So to celebrate the autumn of Rihanna, Elle gave her multiple covers and they asked her questions from many of her famous friends. Some highlights:

David Copperfield, Magician: I’m not kidding, this is a real offer: I can make you disappear and reappear anywhere in the world. Where do you want to go, and why?
Rihanna:
Ten minutes before I lost my virginity…and I’m holding you to that offer. LOL.

ELLE: When did you first wear lipstick?
Rihanna:
Lipstick always got me in trouble. Whether it was at home as a kid, or my early teenage years in my career, I always had the urge to wear it. So I broke all those rules. Now lipstick is like my li’l secret weapon!

ELLE: What is the craziest thing you’ve ever done/tried for beauty? Would you do it again?
Rihanna:
A corset! I’d do it again, though. I’d wear it every day if I could make it out alive!

[From Elle]

She would wear a corset every day of her life?? And that’s the craziest thing she’s ever done? First of all, corsets are garbage. Corsets have been rebranded as “waist trainers” by the Kardashian Industrial Complex and they are stupid for the most part. Rihanna’s actually done so much wild sartorial stuff though, I’m shocked that she thinks wearing a corset is her craziest moment. As for lipstick… I’ve come to the point in my life where I wear tinted lip gloss to the gym. That’s about it. Rihanna’s not making lipstick for me, but can I still have an opinion about Fenty Beauty?

She probably meant a corset as part of a garment, maybe in a dress or something. Rihanna doesn’t seem the type to go throught that suffering for beauty.

  2. trollontheloose says:

I think she meant a real dressed up corset not the “train your ribs” one.

  3. Lulu says:

Corsets can actually be pretty great. I got into wearing one for the sake of posture, and it actually was quite comfortable – though that was a structured corset made with proper boning, not the instagram waist-trainers the Kardashians shill.

    • Kate says:

I wear a proper corset a lot. I find it really comfortable. It’s nowhere near small enough to do me any damage (it takes a hell of a lot of dedication and time to actually change your shape in any way using a corset), it just gives me a somewhat nicer shape and does wonders for my back pain by forcing me to maintain good posture.

      • kay says:

whoa, lulu and kate: a corset helped your posture? did you buy it at a lingerie store? i mean, now that you said it, i can see how they would help.
hmmmm….how long before you were seeing or feeling results with your posture? many thanks for response! 🙂

    • launicaangelina says:

I wear a corset for my posture too. It helps a great deal. I found mine on Amazon and it’s not a traditional lingerie style.

    • Jenna says:

Lulu, you are completely right- corsets canbe amazing. Not the crap ones that are essentially just a wide belt with boning, proper corsets – for the sake of transparency, agood chunk of my life was spent making & wearing them (worked as a costumer & strolling performer at loads of Ren Faire, Comic & Fantasy events) so I concede some bias! If made right with the correct fabric & boning, they are really comfy, ESPECIALLY if you are as busty as I am. And while you have to be careful getting out of them (breathgasm are great but I HAVE fainted a time or two during removal if I wore one all day as a wench and had it too tight) there is nothing you can’t do in one. From cooking over an open fire, running around to even hanging upside down in a tree… (long story but with a nickname like Magpie, treea often ended up on the menu) all doable in comfort. Get it made right and they are so much more comfortable than a mere bra. Honestly, I feel weird when I’m in mundanes anymore, corsets are where it’s at!

Her beauty brand launched today! I picked up a bunch of stuff. It’s really, really good. No lipsticks though, it’s mostly a complexion line (with a killer foundation range).

I love these covers. Such a stunning woman.

    • Leskat says:

I bought 3 things from her beauty line today too! I picked up the lipgloss, a contouring trio and highlighter. I got a deluxe foundation sample from Sephora with my order and if I like it, I’ll get a full size. The colours of the foundation line are amazing! Although I’ve already seen people whining that they still don’t think it’s extensive enough!

  5. Lotusgoat says:

Corsets are the reason I love Renaissance festivals- I feel so beautiful and majestic when I wear one. Also, love RiRi, and she looks gorgeous.

  6. Jenna says:

She looks awful. On all three covers. I don’t even understand how that’s possible. Or why this was the creative concept. Ok. The heart shape is cute, but still. This is Rihanna. She could make a garbage bag look sexy.

  7. HH says:

That close up pic of her with the heart on her face… My god! I could stare are it for days. It’s exhibit A for people who want to know what instagram models are lacking.

    • teacakes says:

ikr?! She’s one of the very few celebs who actually works beautifully as a model, no insta model can ever compare.

  8. grabbyhands says:

I’ve only worn a corset once and I have to say, I didn’t hate it. At all.

I was really surprised by the feeling I had when I put it on, which was just weirdly ultra feminine and strong (for lack of a better word). It is the same feeling I I have when I go out wearing a really great tarty red lipstick.

  9. Stacey Dresden says:

    She is fabulous.

  10. Kali says:

I get her corset comment. Steel boned corsets feel quite amazing, until you take them off. Then you feel like a jellyfish.

  11. lower-case deb says:

i wear corsets for when i get my period.
it really helped with the pain! it’s like a miracle. i used to be so incapacitated by periods before and on the verge of looking like a pillpopper if i ever hoped to function. but it’s miles better now!

someone will know the science of it…

  12. Tanesha86 says:

Hey Kaiser I know you’re not big on makeup so you probably don’t know this but Rihanna’s makeup line is very inclusive for men and women of all skin tones. Her line has 40 shades of foundation at launch which is unheard of in the beauty industry…

    • HH says:

That’s amazing. It’s def something I want to support. I hope I like it and that it works with my sensitive skin.

  13. teehee says:

A corset is not outrageous… I have three. Do I wear them? I protest 🙂 I have tried them on but yeah, putting them on regularly is not something I imagine either.

  14. kay says:

oh this woman and her face and her energy….
what i wouldn’t give for a photo shoot of her and solange….

  15. Lauren says:

I really do like Rihanna and I want to support a fellow Island girl and would love to buy her makeup. I am just really disappointed she invited the racist anti black loser Jeffree Star to her makeup launch. Black women need to do better than this.

  16. OOOHH says:

OMG, jeffree was there??? Ugghhh!!! I am beyond disappointed.

  17. teacakes says:

That heart cover is amazing. I can’t believe a mainstream magazine put a look as good as that on its cover but of course it’s Rihanna. And now I want to buy that cover if I can get my hands on it.
