Sen. Bob Corker: Donald Trump will start ‘World War III’ on Twitter, basically

2017 has been the worst. Let’s be honest. Just when we feel like we’re at rock bottom, there’s a whole new tragedy or catastrophe or terrible stunt. But in this year of awfulness, I’m shocked that there are a handful of arch-conservative Republicans who are consistently telling the truth about just how bad it is, just how awful Donald Trump is, and how our country is never going to be the same. For example: I’ve come really close to following neo-con douchebag Bill Kristol on Twitter, just because he’s en fuego when it comes to his Trump critiques. And now it’s Senator Bob Corker, Tennessee Republican, former Trump supporter (during the campaign) and current chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. In the past few months, Corker has been increasingly critical of Trump’s words and actions related to various international situations (the Iran deal, North Korea, etc). I guess Corker’s criticism was getting to petty, childish, thin-skinned Trump, because Bigly tweeted this on Sunday morning:

To which Corker replied:

Corker wasn’t content to fight this out on Twitter either – late last night, the NYT published an interview with Corker and it is scorched-earth in Trumplandia. You can read it here:

Some sample quotes: “I don’t know why the president tweets out things that are not true. You know he does it, everyone knows he does it.” It’s “like he’s doing The Apprentice or something” and Trump is putting America “on the path to World War III.” Corker says, “I know for a fact that every single day at the White House, it’s a situation of trying to contain him…I don’t think he appreciates that when the president of the United States speaks and says the things that he does, the impact that it has around the world, especially in the region that he’s addressing.”

Many have pointed out that NO DUH OF COURSE TRUMP IS LIKE THIS WE TOLD YOU HE WOULD BE LIKE THIS LAST YEAR but I guess we can celebrate that at least the the chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Comm. has come to Jesus on this. And at least Corker is not pretending to be shocked at this brand-new information. Considering how dark, dystopian and cynical Trump’s campaign messaging was, it turns out that Republicans were wide-eyed optimists this whole time – they voted for a madman and honestly hoped for the best, hoped that they could control him. And they can’t control him. Which is what all of this is about.

Meanwhile, I looked outside yesterday and I was honestly struck with the thought of “I wonder what all of this is going to look like when nuclear war breaks out.”

I never was a fan of Corker’s but that Tweet was such a beautiful burn!!! And that interview is great. But while your words deliver Senator Corker, what will you DO about it?

    • Meghan says:

He’s going to help Marsha Blackburn win his seat so the terrible Republican agenda can continue and she can finally get her wish to shut down Planned Parenthood in TN.

    • casey says:

Yeahhh not a Corker fan at all, and Marsha Blackburn is detrimental to society at large. Appreciate the sass, Corky, but put your money where your mouth is. Our politics is probably the worst part of living in Tennessee.

  2. Nicole says:

Again you don’t get a cookie for “coming to jesus” now. People have said this over and over. Women about misogyny, Newton about guns, minorities about literally everything. Seriously it’s not that hard
People who also don’t get cookies: TWC, supposedly shocked white people after the election and Charlottesville, the GOP every other week.
We told you. I don’t want to hear this crap from people. I already stopped listening.

  3. Clare says:

‘You know he does it, everyone knows he does it.’

No. Everyone DOESN’T. And therein lies the problem. For all his stupidity and incompetence the Cheeto in chief has does a FANTASTIC job of controlling/flipping the narrative to the point where his followers believe only HIM. Everything else is #fakenews.

    • Esmom says:

Yes, the second half of that sentence should me amended to say “everyone with a grasp of reality knows he does it.”

    • someone says:

With Pence leaving the Indianapolis Colts game yesterday over the National Anthem flap I’ve come to realize there are an awful lot of blue collar people in Indiana that support Trump. TONS. My Facebook was full of them yesterday. Gun rights, kneeling, building a wall, whatever — they think Trump is doing a great job. I don’t understand the lack of comprehension…..

      • Mermaid says:

It’s like living in reality vs alternate reality with these people. I said for a long time Trump reminds me of Jim Jones and it’s like 32% of country has been brainwashed. He is exhausting this country and making people literally ill.

      • Christin says:

They’re being manipulated and don’t realize it or care. They’re the puppet of puppets who have strings pulled by big money special interests.

Meanwhile, I looked outside yesterday and I was honestly struck with the thought of “I wonder what all of this is going to look like when nuclear war breaks out.”

    Dude. Same. Every damn day.

    • someone says:

For me it’s the constant thought of what I should be doing to prepare for the end of modern life as we know it. I can’t go to the grocery store without thinking I should buy up every canned good they have there.

      • The Original G says:

So, I’m in Canada and I had the same thought. I can’t say exactly what I think the real threat or outcome is.

I do think it’s possible that people could experience power grid issues for a number of reasons. I bought canned goods and emergency items. When they get closer to expiry they can go to the food bank. I feel better knowing we’d manage for a week. SMH. Am I crazy?

    • STRIPE says:

TBH I’m less afraid of being nuked (I feel like the adults in the White House will stop that) as I am of the very real fact that America is hurtling towards international irrelevance. China is outpacing is in every way imaginable, especially in terms of economic development. Our time as the world leader is over, and every law they pass and program they defund is just getting us there faster. And we’re trillions in debt to boot.

      • aang says:

Stripe, I don’t think our leaders care. They use nationalism as a tool but are in reality globalists who want to control all the wealth, all the resources, and all the power. American/Chinese/Russian makes no difference to the global elite. Only loyalty is to their own $$$.

      • STRIPE says:

AANG- yep. And that’s what scares me. They don’t care but we’re the ones who will suffer the consequences

      • Christin says:

They want lower taxes, more dividends from their investments and no estate tax (despite the higher $5M threshold that covers 90-plus percent of estates today).

      • Jojo says:

President Trump has the final say on launching a nuclear weapon. There is no check and balance. Everyone else can only counsel him. Radiolab did an excellent episode on this. It’s truly terrifying that a maniac was voted into office and most people believe there is a check and balance to the launch of nuclear weapons. There’s not.

      • Algernon says:

I’m not afraid of international irrelevance. We deserve it for allowing a toddler to occupy the presidency. It is our just desserts.

    • Chloe says:

Same. I have a 3-year-old and another one due in February, and constantly feel waves of anxiety over how we’re going to keep them safe from what’s to come. I’m surrounded by incredibly well-educated, upper-middle-class family that still watches only Fox News, reads only the NY Post and Breitbart and listens only to Rush L., and truly believe that Trump is a being unfairly attacked by liberals and career Repub politicians and is a man who “really does care about fixing what’s wrong with our country” (direct quote). Pussy grabbing is locker room talk exaggerated by the haters, feminism isn’t real, and if Fox didn’t report on the Tweet, then he didn’t actually say it. It’s frustrating and makes the hubs and I feel very much on our own when the nukes start flying.

  5. Merritt says:

Where have you been, Bob? Many of us knew that before the election last year, which was why we voted for Hillary.

  6. Nancy says:

He speaks the truth, you can feel the contempt in his words. All for naught, since every time Pinocchio opens his mouth, another lie spews out. So his party is aware of what we all were telling them. What are they going to do, wait for a war? Drain your own damn swamp.

  7. Pocosin says:

Corker is a horrible lawmaker so no kudos to him for finally speaking up about Orange Mussolini. When will the American people realize how important our vote is? When are we going to stop taking our freedoms for granted? Doesn’t look hopeful.

  8. lightpurple says:

And what do you plan to do about him, Corker? You do know there are rules to get rid of him, right? And those rules put the power to do so into your hands, right? So why don’t you follow those rules and remove him from office instead of warring with him on Twitter and insulting adult day health care staff in the process? Also, Bob, since you bring up adult day health care, what are you doing in your state to make it affordable for your constituents yet still pay a living wage to the wonderful workers?

  9. Kitten says:

Yeah no treats for Corker. He’s still as complicit as the rest of the swamp monsters.

Meanwhile, another weekend, another tantrum from Donnie Two Poops.
    *yawn*

  10. jferber says:

Corker also wrote a book that looked very good about probity in politics. As for the post, I’d substitute “wide-eyed optimists” with “scummy, cynical opportunists and dickless sycophants.” I think history will bear this out (if there’s anything left to be called history after the nuclear war trump is hankering for). I believe the Founding Fathers would have rounded up an armed militia (as per the Second Amendment) and forced out this orange blight poised to consume the world in a fiery inferno.

  11. EscapedConvent says:

Anyone who still wants to believe that Rump can be controlled or contained needs to let go of that right flipping now. He is still running roughshod over everyone who crosses his path, just as he always has and will continue to do. So let’s stop wasting our energy trying to manage him (not that anyone is really trying anymore) and put our strength into ~removing him from office.”~

We can do it. Yes we can!!!

  12. kNY says:

No one with even a little bit of intelligence is surprised that trump is acting exactly like he did in the campaign. These republican leaders aren’t surprised – and they think they’re heroes for saying something. Well, they stood by him, supported him, and let him ascend into power. It’s their damn fault, too. I can only hope this will become a trend among republican leaders – if enough of them voice their doubts (and OH DO THEY HAVE DOUBTS), then maybe this nightmare can be over.

  13. Sarah B says:

    But her emails.

  14. why? says:

What happens next? It’s not enough for these GOP senators to say these things, they must follow up their words with actions. These GOP senators say one thing, but then will fall in line with whatever the Dotard does. When they have the chance to stop the Dotard, they sit back and do nothing. Like how they voted against making the Dotard show his tax returns or taking away Jared’s security clearance. Today Lindsay Graham is playing golf with The Dotard. Lindsey Graham is a good example of a GOP who says one thing, but does another. Whatever happened to that bill that Graham was working on so that the Dotard can’t fire Mueller? Didn’t Graham and Grassley try to interfere with the Trump Russian investigation by writing a letter saying that Comey isn’t a reliable witness because he formed his conclusion about Hillary before the case was over? With Graham playing golf with the Dotard today, we should all be worried about what action Graham is going to do to protect the Dotard from the Trump Russian investigation. The press keeps changing the narrative. The Dotard is the president because he got help from the Russians.

I don’t have any sympathy for Bob or any other GOP senator who have been attacked by the Dotard, they knew who he was and had a chance to stop him, but they just sat there and did nothing. He repays their loyalty by tweeting negative things about them.

Bob’s interview was interesting because he showed just how stupid the press was for thinking that The Dotard and Tillerson were playing good cop and bad cop with the NK.

  15. why? says:

While the Dotard was tweeting about the NFL and Pence, demanding praise for what he didn’t do in Puerto Rico, and attacking Bob C, the “real” presidents(Stephen Miller, Bannon, Jared, and Putin) were making decisions to cause more harm to this country. It is being reported that Stephen Miller submitted a list of priorities on immigration. He is using the lives of Dreamers to get the wall.

  16. why? says:

The Dotard and his administration are doing everything possible to destabilize this country. Putin didn’t have to physically attack this country to destroy it, he just helped to get the dumbest person in the word elected and destroy this country from inside out.

Pruitt is leaving the Clean Power plan.

Stephen Miller and his list of demands about DACA and immigration.

The Dotard is doing everything possible to sabotage Obamacare.

Despite Trump Jr saying he met with the Russians to get dirt on Hillary, a Russian lawyer said that the meeting wasn’t about Hillary.

The WH is now using Ivana to do damage control because The Dotard and her kids are getting so much backlash because of their decisions.

The WH is planning on ending the food stamp program.

    Starting cultural wars.

Today they had some guy making the rounds and doing damage control, he admitted that FB planted people into the Dotard’s campaign and denied that it was the Russians who did it.

The Jones Act waiver for PR expired on Sunday and the WH has no plans to extend it.

  17. Tess says:

I really can’t understand why he is still here.
Why he’s not been disappeared, assassinated or resigned.
I always believed that there was s shadowy force that truly ran things, but it seems I was wrong and it’s the POTUS- that’s terrifying in this case

    • Algernon says:

If you believe in that shadowy force, then you should know their globalist industrialists, and everything 45 is doing is what they want, driving up fear and weapons sales across the white, grey, and black markets as governments stockpile for potential war. He’s deregulating everything and inviting wolves into the hen house, letting industrialists take over government instruments meant to protect us from industrialists. If you believe in any kind of cabal (and I do think they’re out there), this is what they want. They’re not for a future of peace, because peace doesn’t make them money. War does.

  18. why? says:

The most disturbing thing about Bob’s statement is how the press fell for the narrative that The Dotard was playing good cop(Tillerson) vs bad cop(The Dotard) with NK. Why is the press so incompetent?

  19. why? says:

The Dotard is still tweeting about Bob C. You would think that with the fires in CA, he would be too busy to launch another twitter attack.

Why is The Dotard so stupid? He is claiming that NYT, recorded Bob C without his permission and then he called him a fool. Once again The Dotard is spreading lies. The press is reporting that Bob C knew that he was being recorded and that 2 of his aides listened in on the call and one of them recorded it.
