Dakota Meyer filed for divorce from Bristol Palin, cites ‘conflict of personalities’

As we discussed on Valentine’s Day, Bristol Palin and Dakota Meyer have broken up. They married in June 2016 after a rather tortured courtship that involved one canceled wedding, a surprise pregnancy, a possible paternity test, a reconciliation, one in-wedlock pregnancy and a move to Texas. I didn’t realize/remember that Bristol and Dakota moved to Texas, honestly. I thought they were living in Alaska. But they’ve been living in Austin, and that’s where Dakota filed for divorce.

Bristol Palin‘s husband, Dakota Meyer, has officially filed for divorce after less than two years of marriage. The Medal of Honor recipient tried to keep the split under wraps by using only his and Palin’s initials in the documents, but PEOPLE has obtained the papers filed in a Travis County court in Austin, Texas.

According to the papers, Meyer said he (D.L.M.) and Palin (B.S.M.M.) are in the process of separating and cited “discord or conflict of personalities” as the reason for their split. The discord, the papers said, “destroys the legitimate ends of the marriage relationship and prevents any reasonable expectation of reconciliation.”

Meyer, who shares two young daughters with Palin, Atlee Bay, 9 months, and Sailor Grace, 2, said he believes he and Palin will enter into a written agreement over the custody of their children as well as the division of their estate. (Palin also has a son, Tripp, 9, with ex Levi Johnston.)

A source knowledgeable of the situation tells PEOPLE Meyer moved out of their home in Austin, Texas, around Christmas. The couple, who married in June 2016, have had their share of relationship problems. After announcing their engagement in March 2015, they called off their nuptials just days before they were due to wed in May 2015.

As I was looking around to see if there was any new dirt on what exactly went down between Dakota and Bristol, I found this Patheos blog post from last week. Bristol is a blogger, remember? She blogs about family-values conservative sh-t, and last week she was whining because Olympic figure skater Adam Rippon slammed Mike Pence. Bristol had a lot of dumb thoughts about that, and it was just a reminder to me: Bristol thinks she’s very “pure” and that she has the moral authority to judge people who are “lesser” than her. She still believes that even with her past. I personally don’t care that she can’t make a marriage work for two solid years, or that she had two out-of-wedlock pregnancies or that she and her family promote Donald Trump as the “family values” president. But I just like to point out all of the hypocrisy.

My coworker was at a real estate training class and actually saw Bristol in the class and I was like Nooooooooooo, keep that hypocrite mouth breather out of Austin!!! Honestly I wish all ppl would stop moving here even if they’re not stupid and homophobes like these two!

    • Kealeen says:

It seems like Austin is the new Portland, in terms of it being the “trendy” place to relocate, and ruining it for the locals.

    • LB says:

I did not even know they lived here!! Why Austin? And I agree about not wanting anymore people moving here (selfishly) we can’t support the population we have!

      • Alexis says:

It is becoming way too overpopulated. But it is most likely about to become even more so with the possible Amazon HQ2 and Apple’s HQ2.

    • Anastasia says:

Austin is so overplayed at this point. It’s hugely overcrowded, rent/housing prices are WAYYYYY too high (look at Craigslist–you’ll see guys offering their COUCH for $500 a month or sexual favors, which gave rise to the term “hobosexual”), as it gets bigger, it loses its status as a unique, weird town (I know it’s still weird, but not like it once was).

It’s still a lovely place, my roots are in Austin. But I wouldn’t live there now if you paid me to.

      • Anastasia says:

I forgot to mention the infrastructure in Austin has not kept up with the huge population growth. Getting around in that city is a nightmare.

      • Cait says:

So basically, it’s New Orleans now.

Because STR’s have driven out a massive chunk of residents, and a 3BR in my neighborhood goes for about $350K.

What happens when she moves back to Alaska? Maybe she loves Austin for now, but she tends to move back home after her stints in other states. Being an involved father, which, to his credit, it seems he is, is much tougher if she does. He moved to Alaska for his little girl back when that mess was going on. Maybe she fell in love with Austin and wants to stay, though, so custody sharing won’t be a problem.

I wonder what he did for a living while in Alaska, and now in Austin. It sounded, to me, when I read last year that they moved to Austin that they just picked it, not that it was for a job position for him as the reason.

  3. Kealeen says:

I can’t get over the irony that of all the places in Texas, Bristol Palin lives in one of the few blue districts.

  4. Redgrl says:

Of course, she’s too stupid to realize if a person of colour or a poor person had her track record with babies & multiple dads & divorce both she and her imbecile mother would call her a whore. Hypocrites – can’t stand them.

  5. Dana Marie says:

Attention anybody thinking about moving to Austin: Austin is not all THAT. Traffic is terrible , real estate is expensive and it crowded everywhere. Waco is pretty and very affordable. You can find parking just about anywhere ! It’s the new Austin. Consider a Waco before Austin! They have a university too! Plus they have chip and Joanna Gaines!! What more can you ask for?!

    • Alexis says:

Sorry Waco is not in the same league as Austin.

    • Anastasia says:

LOL. I see what you’re doing, but Waco is the opposite of Austin. I once ate in a Panera in Waco and realized every single person in there was white. WHERE ELSE DOES THAT HAPPEN IN TEXAS EXCEPT WACO? That ONLY happens in Waco.

Ug, and it’s such a boring town. But yeah, there are some pretty homes.

Let’s make Waco the next cool thing, LOLOLOLOL! 🙂

    • Anastasia says:

Also, there are a LOT of drugs in Austin. Like a lot. A lot a lot. Everywhere. Everyone you know either does drugs (from hardcore stuff to abusing pills, you name it) or they know someone who can furnish you with drugs.
      EVERY
      ONE.

Students at UT abuse pills so much, it’s ridiculous. Epidemic.

      • Dana Marie says:

Yes!!! How could I have failed to mention DRUGS! There are DRUGS in austin!! Waco or Albuquerque are much better places to live .With Less drugs! UT students are terrible and all over the city streets of Austin! If everyone headed over to Waco now, I bet you a million dollars you’d have diversity. Let’s go! It’s all a state of mind!

    • Alarmjaguar says:

I say Albuquerque — great and cheap housing stock, University town, beautiful mountains just 15 minutes away, great weather, beautiful and everyone will be grateful you’re bringing money into the state. Trust, NM is a hidden gem (plus a blue state!)

      • Dana Marie says:

Yes, I agree! Albuquerque has fresh mountain air . Great place to be! Austin has cedar (allergies) and mold problems that you dont want to deal with.

    • Patty says:

That’s what everyone says about: Portland, Seattle, Atlanta, Dallas, Houston, Chicago….and just about every other city that has been experiencing sustained population growth.

    • Julie says:

Don’t forget all of the bats! Bats are just flying rats with rabies and Austin is KNOWN for them! I agree, everyone should totally head to Waco.

  6. adastraperaspera says:

Money must be running out. Time for some free publicity to kick off a new scam.

  7. RBC says:

Sarah Palin is very quiet. Unlike her not to go into “Mama bear protecting her cub” mode and make some statement. She must be really furious and at a loss of words or trying to figure out a way to blame Obama

    • stinky says:

      word!

    • Jayna says:

Thanks for making me smile on this sad day of yesterday’s tragedy in Florida.
The vision of a fuming Sarah Palin not being able to blame Obama and/or the left and/or the left-wing mainstream media is comical.

    • Christin says:

Maybe she’s saving it for some exclusive, or a reality show — “I Can See Mexico from my Daughter’s New House”.

  8. Ankhel says:

“Conflict of personality”? Colour me surprised. I thought they were basic right wing idiots, both of them.

  9. Insomniac says:

Ooh, Adam Rippon pissed off Bristol Palin? Now I love him even more!

  10. Jay says:

    Messy, messy.

  11. Egla says:

Weird people. She is so young and yet has do much going on. I have so many questions here

Why didn’t she use all her live protection s to enjoy sex but to not have children every 2 years?? I mean I get the first one (maybe) but the other.
Why did she leave and then marry a guy she clearly didn’t love?
How can she preach things she doesn’t do herself with a straight face?

  12. Twinsie says:

    I hate his veneers

  13. Anare says:

We haven’t heard from Sarah Palin since their son had a melt down. Lot of drama with these people.
