Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick’s surrogate twins are born

It seems like we just found out about “Sex and the City” star Sarah Jessica Parker and husband Matthew Broderick’s impending additions to their family through the help of a surrogate mother. The couple had been trying to keep the whole thing private, but it didn’t take long for the tabloids to find out all about the woman who is carrying their twin girls. The surrogate was even the victim of an attempted break-in in which local police collaborated with tabloids. But in spite of all the tabloid frenzy, the announcement of the baby girls’ births has been a bit under the radar. According to TMZ, the babies were delivered early this morning.

Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick’s surrogate just took one for the team — or two, actually — by just giving birth to twins.

The babies were born this morning at the East Ohio Regional Hospital in Martins Ferry, according to WTRF.

The station is reporting Matthew and Sarah are currently at the hospital with the surrogate, and will make an announcement about the newborns later this afternoon.

[From TMZ]

Either that was the shortest gestation period of all time, or the surrogate was pretty far along in the pregnancy by the time Parker and Broderick made the announcement. Either way, I’m sure the couple is thrilled to add two new siblings to their little family. Big Brother James must be so excited! It was a pretty smart move having the surrogate give birth in Ohio as opposed to NYC, where the couple lives. I’m sure the paparazzi would be making a big scene if they could.

Anyone want to venture any guesses on whether or not they’ll sell the baby pictures? My first instinct is they won’t – they didn’t do that with James. Congratulations to everyone- and some major props to the surrogate for a hugely selfless and beautiful act.

Selfless act? I can imagine she got paid big bucks. It’s not like she was doing a favor for a family member.

Aw, lovely, I love these two.

Do we have any idea of names or sex? I think they were both girls right?

And no, they won’t sell the photos – not even for ‘charity’.

alibeebee: what prevented her? Her skinny figure, her age (and Matthew’s) and a career in which she was unwilling to fit a second pregnancy in. You can’t be Carrie Bradshaw with a baby belly.
This whole thing seems entirely superfluous to me. I think it’s a desperate attempt to save a failing marriage and I think babies (whomever bore them) should never be made to be the let’s-hope-it-works-out-glue. I have never known that to work.
As for the surrogate, there have been several reports she is a professional surrogate and yes, she got paid. So there’s nothing selfless here, it was a transaction, albeit an unusual one.

Still, after spewing so much poison, I do hope that they will be happy with the babies and that the babies will have a happy life. What’s done is done, now let’s hope for the best for that family.

Having babies in your 40′s is a lot harder and there is a much higher percentage of birth defects and complications when you decide to have a baby at her age. Than again it could be due to her unwillingness to go through the whole body transformation and unable to put certain work projects on hold.

alibeebee – Where do live that it’s unheard of for a woman in her forties to have difficulty getting or staying pregnant?
God, we gossips are such assholes. Assuming that they are having babies because they want to save a failing marriage, or boost a career… I guess no one would have a baby because, you know, they wanted one.

Congratulations to SJP and Matthew. I hope James loves being a big brother.

And MAD PROPS to the surrogate. It’s not an easy thing to do (no matter how much you get paid) and I do think it’s pretty selfless.

I don’t know, maybe she cannot physically carry babies anymore and they really wanted to add to their family? Why does there have to be some conspiracy for them using a surrogate? As a person who suffered through infertility I can tell you it’s no joy and wouldn’t wish it on anyone.

Yadda yadda, right to keep private why she didn’t carry them herself, health issues, HIPAA, etc, etc. The part that concerns me is that, HOLY SHIT, when did I miss the part that the surrogate is from Ohio? Martins Ferry is just down the road from me. It’d have been hilarious if my father and the Broadway-loving OB ended up delivering the kids.

Congrats to the couple! Woo-hoo, babies!

    Isn’t SJP orignally from Ohio?

  12. Kait says:

Didn’t she say that she suffered from secondary infertility? Why can’t we just accept that they wanted a baby, couldn’t get pregnant for whatever reason, and decided to hire a surrogate?

And being a surrogate is a selfless act – she carried these babies for someone else. Yeah, she got paid but she still had to suffer a pregnancy. That’s no small feat, not to mention giving over the babies afterward even if that was the plan all along.

Congrats to them and I hope the babies are healthy and have a beautiful life.

SJP is from Nelsonville, OH. Martins Ferry is just south of Steubenville, OH.

There are many reasons why a woman cannot carry a pregnancy – numerous uterine fibroids, incompetent cervix, etc. However, I do agree with Anna – a desperate attempt to save a failing marriage.

Interesting Anna what kind of poison do these two spew?

  16. Victoria says:

The real story would be if they were not SJP’s eggs. That’s what the tabloids were looking for & what they would pay for. Not photos of the surrogate’s junk filled house.

First, the gossip is MB was sleeping with a co-star, then he has 2 babies with SJP. What is this marriage about?
