Tessa Thompson and Chris Hemsworth reunite for Men in Black spinoff

Another day, another reboot – although this one could be good. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the sci-fi comedy franchise Men in Black is being resurrected, this time serving as a mini Thor: Ragnarok reunion. Tessa Thompson, who starred in the latest installment of the super hero franchise as Asgardian warrior Valkyrie, has singed on to co-star with Thor himself, Chris Hemsworth.

The new MiB is being helmed by director F. Gary Gray of Straight Outta Compton and Fate of the Furious fame. The screenplay is being written by Iron Man screenwriters Matt Holloway and Art Marcum.

Don’t expect Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones to be making an appearance or reprising their characters of Agents K and J this time around. According to THR, this new project focuses on brand new characters and promises be “more global in scope,” favoring an ensemble cast over the “buddy cop” framework of the previous films. Although no other casting announcements have been made yet, Tessa may have hinted that there may be some other Women in Black. Last week, she tweeted, “Women Are The O.G Galaxy Defenders.” This could be promising. Chris Hemsworth was also in the all-female Ghostbusters reboot, which I honestly thought was pretty good.

I just saw Annihilation last night and thought Tessa was great in it. She’s also the inspiration for my new favorite, newly-launched Twitter feed, tessa as goats. If that’s not enough, she just popped up on the series finale of Portlandia as the personal trainer I think we all need (I’m training for two races right now, so I could definitely use her brand of motivation). I also love Chris (who doesn’t?). As much as I’m not on board with all of these reboots, this one might actually work. We’ll see when the new Men in Black is released next summer.

Meh…OK. MIB was one great movie, one horrible movie and one OK movie (in that order). Get paid I guess?

  2. Nicole says:

This could be really funny so I’m interested to see how this goes. And considering how many MIB agents there are storywise it could work

  3. Domino says:

Tessa is beyond beautiful. Her face changes so much depending on just a small smile or other movement.

  4. ofofoc says:

TT’s character on westworld was the worst part of the first season; really couldn’t stand her character and thought she overacted the part.

    • Domino says:

I can’t get into that show. I liked Tessa and her chemistry with Michael B Jordan in creed.

    • SlightlyAnonny says:

I legit forgot she was in Westworld. Yeah, that’s not a good sign for that character.

  5. Ankhel says:

Hmm. Not sure about the ensemble idea. Tommy Lee Jones’ straight man routine, Will Smith’s nervous energy and their weird relationship were my favourite things from the first movies.

MIB movies with an ensemble sounds… hectic. And Hemsworth isn’t as good an actor as either of those two.

hmm, not sure about this MIB reboot. I only saw the first and had no interest in the others. Good luck though, it could be good if well done.

Tessa is busy though. She’s filming Creed 2, she has that heist film as Doris Payne, and now this and there are a few others in the pipeline according to her IMDB.

Oh and that goat thing was cute.

  7. anna says:

honk for tessa! i love her and she rocked in thor. i think they all had a blast making that movie, so yay for a tessa-chris reunion, even though men in black is kinda not old enough for a reboot.

  8. Chef Grace says:

Tired of the reboots. But yeah, I would watch this one. TT was good in Thor 3.
Should bring Hiddles on as an alien. 🙂

  9. Goats on the Roof says:

The Ghostbusters reboot was terrible, but I did come away from it liking Chris a bit. I had only seen him in an Avengers movie prior and had no idea he could be funny. I’ve seen annihilation and Ragnarok and liked Tessa in both. I’ll provably give this a watch.

Chris’s Kevin and the other characters reacting to Kevin was the only reason to watch that Ghostbusters. He has great comic timing.

  10. Jag says:

I don’t think it should be an ensemble cast. Just Chris and Tessa doing their thing would be great. Agreed with others that it could be too hectic being ensemble – and global.

I have such a crush on her.

    • AryaStark says:

@I, Pet goat 2 Me too. She’a so pretty and she was so awesome in Thor: Ragnarok.

  12. xdanix says:

Oooh, I think this could be really, really good! They were great together in Ragnarok, and seemed to get along well off-camera too, which always helps. I like these two- they both seem like good people, and they both have great comic timing, which bodes well for this. I confess, I’ve never watched a MIB movie (Will Smith just isn’t my thing, though he seems like a nice guy and is admittedly great at instagram), but I’ll definitely watch this one for the re-teaming of Chris and Tessa. I just hope the script is good, because with this pairing, if it is, I think this could turn out to be brilliant fun.
